thank you for the intro dekey is a project i've been working on for a couple years it's a peer to peer file marketplace so you can if you are some kind of digital content creator say you're writing
you're writing short form articles that you wanna sell or you're taking photographs that you wanna sell or you wanna sell your digital art you could use d key so right now it's a mini app is how i've implemented it on on firecaster so if you wanted to sell a file you could encrypt it and sell decryption keys to the file using d key there's some clever maths that happen in between to make sure that what you're paying for
is a proper there's a zero knowledge proof that happens that says that this is a valid decryption key for the file that you wanna buy so i don't know if anybody's got any base in their forecast or wallet any base eth

so that means that the total circulating supply of keys that will ever be sold is five right so there will only ever be five keys that can access this file or or five owners of keys right so

anyhow so you guys get get the idea that's the that that's the demo more or less so then if i sell five keys then you guys can then resell your keys and now we have a a market for buying and selling these keys
how is this different from like what we are like used to already

does this differ a little bit like talk about i'm assuming there's some things in the background that are going on
there are some things in the background so what we're used to we're used to
an nft where the uri points to some jpeg that is hosted and available to everybody right so that's the the bored ape or whatever and anybody can access and see that picture of the bored ape the only thing that says that you own it is because you have that nft in the case of a d key this is kind of a a new primitive where
nobody sees what only the key holders will be able to see what the file actually decrypts to right so it's blind to everyone else which is probably attractive for certain people certain content sellers or whatever you wanna keep scarcity you you don't want it available to everybody you only want it available to keyholders so there is that that's programmed in is the
the scarcity aspect of it right another thing that's programmed in is as you guys resell the key you'll notice on the listing i've said that i take
10% royalty right so that's that's coded in that the person who has created the listing the person who is selling the file must take some royalty on the resales right
and the i mean there's like some clever what i think is clever cryptography happening in the background there's a there's a zero knowledge proof that the keys are are valid i can explain that cryptography if needed but it might be beyond the scope of this so there's a not too much
time for the full discussion of cryptography but maybe but i wanna can i just jump back one second because you mentioned the royalty thing and

that's been a huge issue with nfts was that royalties could not be put on chain and enforced which became a massive issue a couple years ago with different platforms so with this you're saying it's actually coded in
yep so you yeah you're required to put in some royalty amount between 199% and then to me that that'll create a market for if you're buying the key then you may not want to pay 50% royalty on the resale so that's gonna affect whether you bid on that key or not right so i i i leave it up to the listing creator to determine what their royalty is gonna be and then you know market effects will determine whether that's a a good royalty percentage or not
and i noticed like so when your your listing just had the bit of my photo in this like cartoon but the but the image itself was different so like how

yeah sure jim jim hi everyone i think it's my actually first public appearance anywhere i've been kinda low key quiet my whole two years on farcaster and since i got really good at building like december this was like the most obvious and most powerful ideas that i've had which is a simple page builder to to put a link in your bio and share like anything you want in there so basically to collect any other links that that you want to feature and it can be a link to the product you sell to your other socials to like your video your podcast shows even so for example i have los foma's page on powerlink where they feature last episode and i'm going towards making that smarter as well so it can pick up automatically your latest latest episode and show it on the page without you having to update it manually so how to link to farcaster
you can sign up with your farcaster account i also check during sign up all your public addresses and use it like to show useful stats if you want to show them
and also to source other links so you don't have to start from the empty page and fill it out manually i'm also working and it's already done on the referral system so if anyone signs up to power from from your page you will get recurring revenue like 30% of what they pay basically forever and then i'm also moving towards like embedded ios level quality widgets so you can have like weather like and have community to contribute to to build basically open source any kind of widgets and then other people can use it as well and it's also plugging into base and all the on chain stuff like you can show polymarket live odds or like live token price on your page as well so basically yeah you can link everything into your page and link everywhere you can make recurring revenue and there is much more coming and i've been on insane building streak so you can try sign signing up to power adding a few links see how easy it is

yes it's just glad to be here excited to be part of the very first firecaster batches what is betterment probably a lot of people tuning in here have heard of betterment but maybe some haven't and some who may tune in later may not betterment is a dopamine distribution machine for creators and founders on firecaster and base simply put every day essentially we try to feature a new artist a new creator app builder or founder people can collect limited edition collect collectibles in the app for $1 usdc and then they earn free spins on the neon flywheel where you can win big prizes worth up to a 100 x that $1 and either better tokens or other base tokens so it's just a a little bit of dopamine a little bit of speculation in service of getting better distribution and and also earnings for creators and founders who've who've struggled to find it in the space we also have a native token better btr which has been sort of thoughtfully strategically built and aligned with the app you can stake that better inside the app and earn daily rewards which come from the actual revenue in the app and i'll talk about that a little bit later too but essentially we're just trying to make this gamified experience where anyone can jump in and play casually if they want to but our most loyal players our most loyal community members are are basically guaranteed to have an e b positive experience an e b plus experience with the app because they'll earn from staking they'll earn from airdrops for playing often and so that's kind of the challenge that we're we're setting out to to do and all the while just making sure that we're giving an opportunity for these creators and founders to be featured find you know their first 100 true fans and also make some money so that's that's all i started out and there's a few other things i wanted to jump but i'll i'll hand it over to you for for starters no
it's great that's that's a great intro and that helps some folks who maybe aren't familiar get a little better idea of what you've been building what i've found really interesting is you started with just art not just art but started with art and traditional sort of collecting with nfts and then there's been like a lot of fun experimentation with either some different like utility for the nfts or different like earning tokens instead of nfts can you talk a little bit about some of those collabs with other farcaster builders
yeah so when we feature an artist the utility of the of the nft is not as important because the utility is the actual art i mean everybody loves to collect beautiful art and support good creators and so that's a very easy sell for people and and our community loves you know logging in seeing new interesting content from people in the community supporting it and getting a chance to to win some prizes as a result but when it comes to other types of builders app or whatnot we came up with you know a way to sort of include them in the process as well and one of the best and most you know high impact ways that we've done that is through nfts that have actual utility so to give you an example we did a collab recently with easyflynn and his dota game which if you haven't played is is really fun it's a mini app and a stand alone game that kind of it's similar to the old clash of clans or more more like warcraft i guess like a russian game and essentially we we did an nft collectible where you you went into to betterment you spun the wheel you won some prizes you collected that nft and then automatically once you connected to his game with the same wallet your character got a buff you know from that nft so it was just an automatic utility from the nft and you know there's there's been a lot said about you know whether it matters or not about nfts having utility but i thought this was a really fun way of just showcasing how nfts can make it easier to collaborate between you know different apps on chain and we've done several other collabs like that with other other apps as well like planks i see nas down there from point hero so we did one with planks where when you did when you collected the the betterment nft you automatically got a a ball pack inside their planks game that was guaranteed to to return more than what you put into it so just interesting ways of collaborating that way and we're excited about you know expanding both of these streams as we go forward you know continuing to give creators an opportunity to to earn and to to find distribution and then also doing these interesting collabs with with founders and and app developers at the same time
yeah that's been really cool to see those different approaches because i think that just makes it a little bit more interesting and expands you know who can who may wanna collaborate with betterment as well it just gives more more opportunity and one of the things i noticed is i went in to build something in vini app and i had collected something on betterment and it automatically gave me a free build so

i'd like to see more of that too you know there's so many people so many people creating these apps and vibe coding apps especially like using vini for example to create new apps so there's just so many opportunities to to cross pollinate your users with other people who are building similar things and you know it really is true that we can all win better together so that's the idea

one thing i like always like to emphasize too is that we've been a community first project very since the very beginning we put a lot of emphasize emphasis on building a a chat of people who are crazy about the project people who stake more than 50 mil better can join a chat and it's it's pretty lively and we have a lot of fun with the game and we also have a lot of community events like poker and and other games that used to be done in house by the wonderful burr who recently took a bit of a a change of course and now is going out on her own with plants and building their own app called the lobby which i'm really supportive of and i think is amazing it's essentially taking what they've done for better over the past eight to nine months and sort of commoditizing it and making it available for other communities as well but we're sort of their continue to be their guinea pig and and running games poker games and and other games through their their mini app over the course of this summer so just a you know a fun project to to be a part of sometimes it's you know it can be daunting when you're just coming into the space and you're not sure what to buy and you're not sure what to do but at least if there's a community and everyone's kinda rallying around a common goal of helping creators succeed and helping builders succeed and then hopefully winning together at the same time it's a lot more fun than just kind of trying to invest or trade in in a vacuum so that's what we're we're trying to do and so i'm excited about that i do have some alpha that i can i can maybe drop i saw net nose down in the in the chat there he's our cofounder and the one the technical wizard who does all the technical side of of better and he was working on deploying a new feature so i can talk to you about about that if you want but i know you don't like alpha so probably not

i don't wanna monopolize the time at all so i'll make this quick there was one other thing that we are just prepping to roll out we couldn't quite get it ready for today but it's gonna be ready very soon anyone who's been following our journey knows that we used to have a partner called blueprint that did all of our hosting of nfts they were amazing and it was awesome to have you know easy place where we could put all our nfts in the first few months of operating but eventually they unfortunately had the sunset platform for you know things that were unrelated to betterment in any way but then we essentially were forced into rolling our own contracts and all of our nfts have been hosted on our own eleven fifty five contracts since then all i have to say originally when we were using them for hosting we had reserved 1.5% of every spin to essentially pay for that posting and so since we've rolled this and brought it inside rather than you know being greedy and keeping that 1.5 for ourselves we decided to get creative and think of an interesting way that we could use that 1.5% of every spin and and what we came up with is essentially a new referral program that i think people are gonna be really excited about essentially if you're already sharing your spins sharing your staking top ups etcetera on farcaster and on x previously you were earning a small karma bonus better karma bonus every time someone clicked your you know clicked your share and actually used the app but now you'll actually be earning liquid better so essentially every time someone spins because they click your share you know you know like a good old pyramid scheme you'll be hurting literally liquid better for every single time someone spends in perpetuity so pretty cool i think it'll be an interesting way for again our most loyal users to make a little bit of stack a little extra better and stake it and and and earn more so yeah exciting

yeah i mean i know we talked before but just real quick we were started out as a meme we were the first clinker we were actually a lot of first things i know you just talked to tony about betterment and we're saying how he started with nfts but he actually also started with runner the very first
time there was a better spin toady bought some runner and gave that out as part of the prize for the spins that people did that day so that was really cool love toady

bad yeah so yeah we've been building the app like we said i mean we talked not too long ago about it it's actually finally coming along really well i guess the alpha i have to share is that i was talking well
just in case people are not familiar with like the original app and like what you've been doing just give a little bit of background so they know what what this new mini app is gonna actually be
yeah so right now we have the old mini app on farcaster anyone can go on and you can even even without opening the mini app if you are go in the running channel and post a screenshot of like if you go for a run with strava or garmin or any of the any running app you just post a screenshot of your stats and then it'll put you on the leaderboard on the runner app you can also go in the runner app and manually then press a button at the bottom to then share your run anywhere on farcaster and it puts you on the leader board as well and then at the end of every week i take the runner side of the fees that i got for the week and put it in an airdrop and give it to the top eight people on the leaderboard so that just went out about an hour ago this week so the new app is gonna be a little bit different because we that was basically our proof of concept we know it works we know people like it the new app we're building is gonna be a lot more robust it's gonna be integrated with strava so runners will log in with a strava account and then log their run and then it's gonna automatically take that data and put it on the leaderboard we're doing this for a couple reasons one is because it's gonna make it a lot harder for people to cheat and we also kinda just want everyone on one simple thing it's also gonna be along with being a forecaster app and will also be on the base app it's also gonna be a stand alone web app too so we can capture some people here from twitter as well and it is gonna have a referral program a lot like what tony was talking about with better we're gonna do the same sort of thing where if you log a run and share your run on twitter or forecaster you're gonna get points for extra more points for sharing your run and then if somebody else clicks your link and uses your referral to then log their runs you'll get more points and we're gonna be moving from the weekly leaderboard to we're gonna do seasons which will really be monthly so kinda how degen used to do back in the day they called it a season but it was just a month and with that we're gonna be able to give a lot more out to a lot more people so we don't have the same rotating about 20 people capturing the top eight every week i mean last week we had i can try to find it

like there are only people there's like ultra marathon runners who use this and win so we're gonna definitely still keep them on board but with the monthly payouts we're not gonna just be paying eight people we're gonna be paying out a lot more people and we're gonna have to have it based on the point system so it's not just gonna be if you can run a 100 kilometers a week that's the only way you're gonna get paid and then we're hoping to do we're gonna also include the activation grant that you guys gave us with that too i'm not sure if we're gonna put it all in the first season or put it over the first like two or three seasons and i think with that we're hoping to collaborate with some other projects maybe so instead of just buying a bunch of runner to give out we're probably gonna also collaborate with other projects to get more of the community involved with it and then we're also probably gonna give teeny tiny bits of a theory amount to everybody just because we're integrating privy with the new app as well so there's gonna be a lot of people from twitter that are just setting up a privy account and don't have any gas in it at all so we're gonna give tiny amounts of f so that people won't have to worry about them funding their new purdue wallet with eth to we
all we all now have based on the chart today we all just have tiny itty bitty amounts of eth so

but yeah we did get a the way we've paid for this app so far is with a grant that we got from base that's taken us a long time but they gave us ethereum and i only stabled like half of it when they gave it to us to pay for the first half of the app and then eth has gone literally down only since they gave it to us so i'm like
many such cases gave me yeah
and then it's gonna be you know it's just gonna be more of a headache tax wise and stuff like i got it at this price either way just happy that you guys gave us usdc and that's still safe as that so
and that's and that's why gave us and now you know why
the full amount it's
not going to zero while we decide what we're gonna do with it so yeah
and i'd love to i love the idea of you collaborating with other projects we'd love to see that we're hoping to see a lot of that happening within the farcaster and clanker ecosystems with these grants and i've already seen a lot of a lot of that like percolating on the timeline so it's great to hear and i think you know stretching it out a little bit is a good idea two or three months is great and i can't wait to see the new the new app when it's ready so it's very exciting
so and the little bit of alpha i had to give was that i was talking to samuel earlier and he thinks in about a week we're gonna be able to do the internal testing which i don't think will take long at all and then after that we'll be able to launch so it's really close to launching it's been a long time
in the
works and we're finally almost there
and we did have a chat with darko and samuel huber a couple weeks ago so you can find that on the gm farcaster channels especially if you go to youtube look under guest interviews you'll find it pretty pretty quickly it was it was fairly recent so exciting to have you working with and samuel is such a an incredible builder i can't wait to see what this is like
they are amazing like without the base grant there's no way we would have able to afford them like they i
mean they build like yeah
all kinds of crazy stuff like the yeah morpho and are just like they're like top tier builders none none of us on the team like we kinda do very very mild live coding type stuff but nothing that would produce like an app that we think is good enough so we really just asked the clanker team who are the best people to build apps and that's they pointed us to them and so that's where we're putting everything love that to them building us the best app that's gonna be able to scale as well so it's gonna be awesome

well i'll just say darko the first time i saw you talking about runner i assumed it was about tokens like looking for token runners and i was like i guess this isn't for me
