farcaster it is friday december 8th and you are here for gm farcaster 21 minutes of farcaster news to start your day with adrianne and the nannish professor and my voice if it does sound a little hoarse is from yelling over music to talk to people at art basel at various events and my my throat is dead plus doing a little speaking introducing folks yesterday so i'm really excited to tell you all about that but

0:48Speaker 1

good morning good morning happy friday professor i'm impressed yay i'm impressed you're prioritizing gm forecaster after the day yesterday that's commitment

0:58Speaker 0

total commitment i was like i have to be up they're like you're doing what now oh this is really funny so shout out wiz i told you i was going to do this so yesterday at lil basil wiz who's a noun a friend of mine from lil nouns said something about like said something to someone else oh are you on farcaster and he's like you're not on farcaster are you and i'm like i'm just looking at him like are you serious right now so like regularly on the 3rd you know i've been on the 30 most active list i do a show called gm farcaster i'm a little bit on farcaster just to

1:35Speaker 1

now is wiz on farcaster

1:37Speaker 0

he is but you don't know had not crossed paths paths we have he just wasn't paying attention

1:43Speaker 1

oh

1:43Speaker 0

so he but he knows me from other places because he just pretty much stays in the nouns channel i'm everywhere

1:49Speaker 1

it's different it's interesting

1:50Speaker 0

yeah so i thought that was really funny

1:52Speaker 1

nouns is forecaster some people think well a lot

1:55Speaker 0

of the noun ish people came to farcaster when they started using that as a main communication channel so it's like they don't really even realize some of us have been here even longer so anyways so a great event go ahead go ahead adrienne

2:09Speaker 1

i was gonna say just a shout out to farcaster.network so there's a whole bunch of stats pages but farcaster.network is the original it's the og stats page that's the one that had the top 30

2:21Speaker 0

got it

2:21Speaker 1

and i think probably about a year ago i was like let's get on that list and and we did

2:27Speaker 0

good job and we did so wiz this is your shout out this morning on june farcaster just so i can tag you and you can see that yes yes i am here and yesterday it was amazing but the day before when i first got to miami for art basel i got to meet this legend i can't believe i forgot to post this met brian g at the nft now gateway event and i meant to post that right away yeah and it was amazing he was very well behaved so it was a lot of fun and then yesterday i also met ivy yesterday i saw jack the night before i did not get selfies with him i didn't know about why and then we had an amazing event yesterday with little nouns and the other host that i saw that i thought was really humorous was cameron kind of giving there's a lot of memes going around about the i think it was the tezos event and their screens which are very very small so there was that so i posted on that particular i replied that some of us did it better because we had some amazing screens in the gallery space that we had this event yesterday

3:36Speaker 1

okay you just explained cameron's joke to me i saw that i saw his cast and he said i think we have nfts in our house right

3:42Speaker 0

like they're

3:44Speaker 1

on small screens

3:47Speaker 0

let me read it again it was yeah we have we have nft displays at home and it was the tezos event their screens were not the best but i have to say nft now's gateway event if you are in miami and you haven't been over there yet please get there to like today or tomorrow because it the art is incredible that space is amazing their screens are quite large so go over there and check that out so it's been we had an amazing event yesterday we started with bagels and builders which was builderdao and purple anyone from purple could be there anyone from any of the nenish daos and we had jesse from jesse pollock from base doing a lightning talk which i took that inspiration from farcon so i loved lightning talks i loved that little 10 minutes 10 15 minutes of like here's the thing that i'm so passionate about share it with me and he did this amazing talk we we have the stream we're going to share about his journey through daos and it was really like it was it was a lot of fun so that was amazing and then we also had luca netz from pudgy penguins in the house talking about all the things he's building in web 3 and so it was an amazing event and then it went throughout the day like then we did a whole building with little nouns then we did a cryptodes meetup and then we did pizzadao so that's the various things that you see reflected there and then pizzadao was like crazy like 3 hours just jamming and the biggest pizza i've ever seen in my life so more to come but that was it was a great day sounds incredible yeah so we had a great great day yesterday but so so luckily adrienne noticed that i had not curated any links and she was the one doing doing it all this past couple days and this is why we have a decentralized team so we have dan dwr with psa on direct cast we're migrating everyone to a new simpler direct cast system in the next hour or so the new system allows you to keep messages forever your previous direct casts are available in read only mode for the next 28 days goal is to have dcs on web in the next couple of weeks and then you had asked him a question about casts are private and stored securely but not end to end encrypted are they encrypted at rest or stored in plain text direct casts are warp cast only and not part of the farcaster protocol just me taking notes to prepare for gm transcripts

6:33Speaker 0

and dan's response good question for now plain text will eventually move to something more secure if especially sensitive and you don't trust us move the combo to another messaging app for now optimizing for speed of iteration to get to web and other features so what are your thoughts on this this change

6:55Speaker 1

well i think it was varun asked in a survey last week how people feel about it it was like what do you want right so and

7:04Speaker 0

it was like do you want directcast on web quicker and encryption later or do you want us to do that first yeah

7:13Speaker 1

yeah and overwhelmingly people said they really want directcast so the ability to message someone 1 on 1 on the web and i actually answered the other i said i i thought it'd be better to wait but they didn't listen to me so they shifted fast and people have opinions so yeah i i think it's just really important and that people know just just transparency

7:41Speaker 0

yeah

7:41Speaker 1

is is important transparency builds trust so i think we're doing our job of getting the word out so direct casts not end to end cryptid by the way i don't think they are on telegram either i don't think they are on discord i think

7:55Speaker 0

there's very few

7:56Speaker 1

i think know whatsapp where the 2 that have end to end so

8:02Speaker 0

yeah so if that's you know really if you have sensitive information that you're sharing you know definitely think about what you're doing you know before you do it i think that's fair i think it's really about you know getting the information out there somebody in our chat said i wanted encryption and then they said but there's no encryption anymore for someone else so that was

8:26Speaker 0

meta end thanks for jumping in you're a first time first time chatter

8:31Speaker 1

yeah and there's different types of encryption you know there's end to end encryption but and even you know it's like

8:37Speaker 0

yeah

8:37Speaker 1

there's also encryption at rest which means you know when yeah

8:40Speaker 0

can you explain that you mentioned that in your cast and i'm not really sure i understand what that means so if you could explain that a little bit

8:48Speaker 1

any data you're exchanging on an application gets stored in a database mhmm and for you know 99.999% of all data is just stored in plain text in a in a database developers have the ability to encrypt data in so this is at rest so while it's just sitting there so if someone comes and snoops in that database or downloads a database and you'll maybe a list of passwords you get the passwords but they're encrypted got it okay in in the field itself so so so when something's encrypted at rest in the database it's stored encrypted and then when you go to display it on the web you'll kind of decrypt it or encrypt it in transit in transit so interesting yeah so what that means is if there are malicious actors if there's people who anyone who has access you know internally the the far the warpcast developers will you know if they wanted to they can run a query and look at your direct casts and this is not unique to workcast this is happening anywhere you're storing data and you're sending data to any centralized system or decentralized data's out there so just be aware of that yeah and and and that's the other question i asked dan was oh not a question on the faq just to clarify direct casts it's not a protocol it's not

10:04Speaker 0

in the protocol protocol level it's only warp cast is that correct yeah mhmm so and i would think that's i don't even know if you could create that at a protocol level i think that would be i don't i don't know how that would work i'm sure there's a way to do it but i have no idea but it would seem like that would have to be application layer for that type of process i would think

10:29Speaker 0

all right amazing so this is we that was some big news and then we have favoriting channels so i logged in today and i was like wait what happened favoriting channels just got easier to manage hc2 cmalad eth for shipping this and this is to make your favorite channels in your sidebar and what i saw when i logged in today because i i had to restart my i had to upgrade my app as soon as i you know logged in because i don't do auto upgrades for various reasons and so i updated my app and then as soon as i went in i went okay something's different like wait a minute we have i had like recent and i loved it because i had my favorites and then i had my recent ones and then the rest of channels and i think that was you know super helpful for me because it's kind of like a way of having additional favorited channels but not and kind of automatic almost which i thought was is super helpful what did you think about that feature i saw the announcement i didn't get around to play with it too much

11:40Speaker 1

so i want all the channels favorited i want every channel maxi

11:46Speaker 0

she's a tailor i

11:47Speaker 1

want every i wanna read every cast and every channel every day it's hard so it's

11:52Speaker 0

hard i'm sorry i have to quit my full time job so that i can recast on podcast all day it would make me very happy

12:01Speaker 1

but well dan asked

12:03Speaker 0

now we gotta make money to pay bills so we can't do that dan had a cast which

12:08Speaker 1

we can add i don't think we curated this one but he said like if you had something like $1,000,000,000 in bitcoin like how would you live differently it's like oh yeah i guess i would just spend all my day on firecaster and just livestream 24 hours a day

12:21Speaker 0

i think we would i honestly would be perfectly happy with that and i would go to every single crypto conference everywhere in the world like i seriously would do that just go to absolutely everything i'd be just traveling all the time and just meeting people meeting all these amazing people in person so but like i would totally do this as a full time job if we

12:42Speaker 2

could swing it someday maybe maybe adrienne we'll just keep building

12:47Speaker 0

keep dreaming keep dreaming keep dreaming keep building i really like this from dan this little chart here work in progress and it's a sort of a i don't even know what you call it like this

13:02Speaker 1

a 2 by 2 matrix

13:03Speaker 0

thank you matrix i'm just like not even thinking centralized decentralized and kind of looking at free versus paid twitter and youtube being free and centralized sub stack being paid and centralized and then we've got blue sky and nostra decentralized and free and then barcaster and ethereum decentralized and paid and i thought this was interesting to kind of see it sketched out like this and thinking about especially when we think about you know when we think about when i think about ethereum and like blockchain and all of that we know you know like i think of that in terms of decentralized but most of the world is pretty centralized and it's kind of you know seeing it kind of laid out like that is really interesting to think about especially around the social buy space if you will how that's all going to play out and what's going to be you know what's going to be the tipping point but i feel like i am just like whenever you get around a lot of people who are in crypto it just gives you a lot more resolve that you're heading in the right direction and that that to me even that chart's like yeah we're heading in the right direction like i would much rather pay to be on farcaster and not have any ads than have a little bit of that freedom than to deal with ads on a lot of other platforms so i think that we're going to see more of that feel as well what did you did you happen to see that one i just dropped it this morning in the in the chat i don't know if you got it

14:31Speaker 1

yeah and and i think he just dropped it yesterday and someone had already turned it into a meme and and trolled dan with it

14:38Speaker 0

i'm just controlling if

14:39Speaker 1

anyone in the chat knows what i'm talking about and can link it i don't i can't remember who did it

14:44Speaker 0

oh god

14:45Speaker 1

but they someone just you know it was like you know at the at the warp cast weekly what did you ship this week you know v show varun shows the list of everything channel updates and direct cast and you know his list of everything that shipped and then

15:00Speaker 0

he said dan i made this 2 by 2 matrix

15:05Speaker 0

i did not see that but we will definitely find it

15:08Speaker 1

and i

15:08Speaker 0

had to included in the show notes

15:10Speaker 1

yeah of course i see the meme before i see the i always do this you always see the meme before you see the source so now i i'd have

15:17Speaker 0

to go like wait what

15:18Speaker 1

i know i think

15:19Speaker 0

i explained i explained the that we have nft displays at home to you this morning

15:24Speaker 1

exactly we have by the way we have the best audience because direct live monkey links just sent the the the it's zach zach terrell

15:35Speaker 0

zach terrell thank you zach terrell for the

15:37Speaker 1

made the meme thank you thank you liz

15:40Speaker 0

that meme is hilarious friday demiowick but warm cast what did you get done this week that's so funny i think it's actually he may have replied yep hold on oh god there's even another one he's done a couple see another one

15:58Speaker 1

so i feel like that'll be my background so i feel like monday i'm calling it monday i'll have a 2 by 2 background on gm forecaster

16:06Speaker 0

okay my first we'll we'll dig back into this meme a little bit more as it develops we're gonna breaking memes

16:15Speaker 1

by the way what's funny is i used i don't pay for substack like and and i know some people might choose to pay for twitter so you know in some ways but that's true but i like to a

16:26Speaker 0

good point because you can like i get paid for twitter blue so i have fewer ads but i still have ads so and it's still centralized

16:35Speaker 1

but i like what you said about kind of the the feeling you get about when you're hanging with the crypto people of and and you talk about global right like crypto being global and yes look these platforms except for you know i know china has their own version of everything and and half the population of the world and we just somehow pretend that it doesn't exist but silicon valley like i mean these are they're centralized and they're built in silicon valley and they're used around the world so to take something like a forecaster protocol which by the way is heavily built heavily west silicon valley influenced

17:12Speaker 0

much so

17:13Speaker 1

but to to build something that can progressively be decentralized where people globally can take more ownership of the protocol and and open source and build it's it's a nice little future vision

17:27Speaker 0

yeah it's amazing it's it's really like whenever i'm the more i talk to people and i mean we do this all the time anyways and i always have this feeling but when you get around such like you feel it like affably around you you really feel like you're living in the future and i really i do believe that but so funny about yeah so breaking memes and we will follow the story as a thesis so monday we're we'll have new backgrounds by the way why don't you just change your background

18:00Speaker 1

ralph i've had this background the entire time so we're 8 we're we're 18 minutes into our

18:06Speaker 0

noticed this like what is happening

18:08Speaker 1

we're 18 minutes into a 21 minute show i have if you listen on a podcast in voice only you don't get to see our backgrounds but every show we play around with virtual backgrounds for the recording my background is a best described as a platter of salmon cooked salmon

18:27Speaker 0

what salmon

18:28Speaker 1

and you don't know what it is

18:29Speaker 0

this one i don't even know what this is

18:32Speaker 1

but within 30 seconds of us starting the show someone arian in our audience said responded to the background and he knew what it was so

18:39Speaker 0

okay well then i i am a little lost by this today i told you i've been i was afk all day yesterday so i missed a lot and including a salmon background and i don't know why i didn't notice it before i don't

18:53Speaker 0

it beautiful though like 4 hours of sleep it's so beautiful

18:57Speaker 1

isn't it beautiful it came from survey castor it's

18:59Speaker 0

a beautiful plate of salmon

19:02Speaker 1

it's a survey castor question so shout out to ponder and ponder team and survey who are building surveys native to farcast that's amazing kojo colin and ben at kojo and at ba ben adamski and the question was how many days a week are you cooking your own dinner

19:21Speaker 0

how many days a week are you cooking your own dinner

19:24Speaker 1

what do you think knowing what you know about me what would you what's your guess i'd say like 3

19:29Speaker 0

so i need someone to define cook dinner versus assemble not i would say not purchasing it fully ready to be eaten so then

19:45Speaker 1

yeah maybe okay how about

19:46Speaker 0

purchased at the supermarket and not a restaurant

19:51Speaker 0

maybe maybe hold on because that roasted now i take it back is that roasted chicken at the deli pounce

19:59Speaker 1

i i i i might cook dinner maybe like a cooking dinner maybe once a week okay maybe

20:05Speaker 0

would you like to guess how often i cook dinner

20:08Speaker 1

i'm gonna say is is 1

20:12Speaker 0

1 is a one is a bit is a great week 1 is a

20:15Speaker 1

what is the dinner week

20:18Speaker 0

0 is usually the answer but i am really good at picking up dinner

20:24Speaker 1

yeah if we're defining cooking dinner as purchased as raw ingredients like okay

20:29Speaker 0

0.5 i'm 0.5 i i like purchases arjan i like purchase as raw ingredients i think that is that is what i'm going with

20:39Speaker 1

but i am getting better at doing some prep i've been start trying playing around with food prep so like prepping having things prepped and cooked and then i'm more of like an assembler i have

20:50Speaker 0

a lot of nutrition to do that it just doesn't happen

20:50Speaker 1

yeah i've got teenagers and like they're they've had their sports half of them are not home it's just it's chaos

20:56Speaker 0

it's total yeah and and that's you know a lot of my issues like i'm cooking for myself so i'm perfectly happy with cheese crackers and whatever yep except for dinner

21:06Speaker 1

that's why i love my background i love my background because it's so sophisticated so beautiful this beautiful plate of salmon that's so

21:13Speaker 0

we are at the end of our time and there's a couple quick other shout outs that i just need to do introducing the purple builders round i've been working this is from chris corella i've been working with seneca that is the nounder who's who built prophouse prophouse and artist danny cole gremlin and sloppy pencil to make these purple builder pfps you can win anyone on farcaster can apply with an idea project you're working on a cast a meme or anything at all and purple will vote and the top 5 receive one of these nfts i'm i'm i am like next level impressed at the artists that they got for this like these are 3 incredible artists like gremlin is kryptodes and nouns and a whole bunch of other stuff if you don't know sloppy pencil was one of the animators on rick and morty and then you've got danny cole from creature world so like that's impressive so well done chris corella i'm assuming that you were instrumental in getting these artists and that seems like a fun round and i think we have to consider this i think we have to give this some consideration so

22:35Speaker 0

so i want oh one more really quick thing monavera rest in peace amazing pioneer in our space and in digital art generative art and passed away at age 90 something recently was just honored as for her work in pioneering nfts so amazing and thank you for your contributions to the world and yeah so i just wanted to give that little shout out and that's it anything else adrienne before we wrap and thank you to our chat today you guys were amazing by the way you gave us a lot of energy

23:16Speaker 1

no i think we can take it i think we can just take it right into the weekend

23:19Speaker 0

right into the weekend okay

23:20Speaker 1

fell right in let's go

23:22Speaker 0

fell into the weekend we'll be back monday with developing memes and other news other breaking news we'll see you then have a great weekend everybody happy friday bye bye
