wrong network switch to base like yes yes i get it

0:11Speaker 1

we are live come here yes we have our own little conversation in the background we are live welcome to gm farcaster the first one of 2024 happy new year adrienne happy new year professor i'm so excited i'm really excited for 2024 i am like really like i'm pumped i think it's gonna be a great year i'm really excited for what we have going on yeah really excited so i wanted to talk about our backgrounds really quick and explain this so that it makes a little bit of sense my background is from the rose parade last year so a year ago i was in pasadena helping put flowers on this amazing creation at the rose parade this is a memory of a lifetime thanks to stupid buddy team for this i'm so glad i went totally worth it technically last year this was on january second because if the rose parade ends up on a sunday they move it to a monday but usually it's on january 1st so it's happening today i was just watching the parade and reminiscing and my crown as you can see is a rose princess crown so i was having my donna martin moment for those of you who are as old as me and watched 90210 when she was a rose princess there you go so i added my own little piece to this because this was a float that was funded by nouns and it was an amazing experience and i'm so glad i got to go they just invited like hey anybody who wants to come and i was like i wanna do that and i got to put flowers on the float it was hazing so just wanted to share that little memory on this new year's day and you are rocking an amazing background from i'm gonna let you say

2:01Speaker 0

that come from outcasters the last outcasters of the year

2:06Speaker 1

amazing and let's jump right to that last outcasters of the year with a little summary of 2023 the year 2023 has been quite an exhilarating journey and my favorite aspects of witnessing the growth of farcaster protocol this is from ghostlinks from snapshot 25 as we conclude the year we are just shy of reaching 50,000 registry users with a total of 1,700,000 casts made notably more than 70% of all casts are now created within channels and the platform boasts a thriving community with over 600 active channels i'm excited about the future growth of these communities and this is amazing and then he goes on to talk about vitalex ambition and hope which we'll talk about in just a little bit i think we both fell off of the active users list unfortunately but that's okay

3:04Speaker 0

there's no hope for me anymore

3:06Speaker 1

i i can't i can't even get close i can't get close anymore these people are crazy but there's some amazing you your your amazing background from your piece the the the the lexicon lexicon thank you i was looking for the right word was is in this outcasters as well as some incredibly snowy pictures of mountains and things which i saw some of those going by from people on their trips so we get a lot of like travel photos from the holidays that are absolutely incredible and there's just some amazing amazing pictures so what did you think of that 2023 wrap up like that's pretty incredible like that there's that many people casting and like in one you know really not longer than much of a year you know a couple of years so yeah

4:00Speaker 0

and we've we've had a front row seat

4:02Speaker 1

had a front row seat it's amazing it's amazing it's amazing

4:04Speaker 0

yeah

4:05Speaker 1

i can't believe like 70% in channels i thought was amazing if you think about 2023 started with no channels like the channels 70% of all casts are going in channels like that's amazing so all of you who used to just cast on home you've adjusted you've adjusted

4:23Speaker 0

how much of that is because channels is the thing or it became hey you're gonna get penalized the algorithm wants you to post in channels and we're gonna you know bow down to the algorithm lords

4:36Speaker 1

we're gonna bow down to the algorithm the to the dwr lords of the algorithm that's right but i you know i i think it's made for a much better experience for me anyway like i have felt like i've connected with more people within channels than i did before there were channels because i think i'm able to find people with more interests you know that we have in common so we're connecting on different levels which is i think really cool so yeah yeah so i think and on that note too you had a little wrap up for gm farcaster so this thing that we started halfway through the year we've had not even september gm farcaster by the numbers 40 livestreams 15 weeks of farcaster news and yeah okay thank you for disappearing on me right as i'm reading it it's gone like okay thank you that's what i needed right now what's for you to disappear on me and lots of other fun numbers we've had 2 hosts 2 guest hosts 1 interview

5:44Speaker 1

200 mintlinks i believe and some other things

5:49Speaker 0

i got it right here i got you

5:52Speaker 1

like just as me and literally like you'll see it in the recording just disappears

5:57Speaker 0

so i use so you're on the web app right on the web so i have noticed in others the web app does time out

6:03Speaker 1

it does sometimes it does that yeah

6:05Speaker 0

more than the mobile app does and

6:08Speaker 1

that was really funny though so i'm like i

6:11Speaker 0

and it's the web app is hungover today apparently

6:14Speaker 1

hungover so we had going back to that one guest interview 200 episodes minted 58 unique mentors 30 podcast subscribers 351 podcast listens and we also have like 45 subscribers to our weekly recap as well so we've got to put that in

6:34Speaker 0

cool right and i actually don't know how many people are have subscribed to the looma calendar invite and we don't have stats so unlonely i don't think gives us stats on like who's joining live

6:46Speaker 1

street yeah

6:46Speaker 0

i don't think a shame because i didn't feature that but that's obviously the best part of the show

6:52Speaker 1

and we usually yeah we usually have a handful of y'all in the chat who we love and you guys make this so much fun for us yeah people cast in channels because they missed out on followers when they didn't listen to dan the first time he said cast in channels he he did ask nicely the first time it's like a parent that i asked nicely you guys wouldn't do it so therefore i'm now making you based on the algorithm which is kind of funny okay moving along emmanuel i loved this meme it can't be just me 1st to 26th december festive 27th to 31st confused full of cheese and unsure of the day of the week that's how i felt the past few days but i think i'm back on track now now that we're now that we're back to our regular schedule but last week i was a mess so i thought that was really funny and then we've gotta talk about the big news of the day we have breaking news adrianne breaking news breaking news

7:54Speaker 0

i don't know if you're

7:55Speaker 1

aware but dwr apparently is also racer who launched friendtech who knew so this came out from coindesk last night dwr aka racer is revolutionizing social media with friendtech pioneering in the decentralized space his innovation is reshaping online interaction that's why he's part of coindesk's most influential of 2023 this was a bit of a surprise to dan

8:27Speaker 0

has he commented

8:28Speaker 1

he has said one thing does this mean i now like k pop oh that was his so i said apparently apparently you're now this whole other person just for the record so we can correct coindesk i mean this is fun we get to correct coindesk

8:50Speaker 1

dan is not dan rivera is not racer these are 2 different people they're doing

8:55Speaker 0

2 different things

8:56Speaker 1

however we do agree with your pick for dan being influential in dwr and farcaster in general so that part we agreed with but not the not

9:07Speaker 0

for frontec

9:08Speaker 1

no not for frontec so that was pretty funny i was like thanks for the gift for us to start the show with it because that's crazy yeah i was like wait what and then we have a fun thing from ornamental welcome traveler the time has come for ornamental to launch with new year's resolutions read on and learn how you can join first oh okay yep i'm having one of those days where it's gonna keep doing that to me anytime i try to move it's going to disappear so it it what it was doing is allowing you to put your fid in and get a new year's resolution so yours was this is your new year's new year's resolution generated by ornamental i resolved to continue connecting with others seizing opportunities for growth and celebrating the beauty in life and something else that has now disappeared

10:02Speaker 0

a bright creating a bright future filled with delight and success very on brand i gotta say

10:08Speaker 1

very on brand very on brand mine was i resolved to prioritize enjoying the little things

10:18Speaker 1

things in life embracing creativity spreading the joy it's yeah it keeps disappearing me this is gonna be fun so i thought mine were pretty accurate and it was funny because i refreshed it a couple of times so i had a couple of them and they all were similar so i assume this is using ai and i haven't really dug into it too much but did you what did you think of your your resolution and other ones that you saw

10:41Speaker 0

loved it fit perfectly it is with ai and jacob's been playing he's had he's done a few of a few kind of enter your enter your fid and ai outputs something it was so this is the the the new year's resolution did he also have the

10:57Speaker 1

con the conversation bot that was yep ai gen okay it was so it's the same cool very cool so yeah i thought this was kinda neat and it was so i was expecting when i looked at other people's for it to be similar to mine or to see like a set number of ones that just you know rotated and they were all different so i thought and they seem to you know connect with the person pretty well so i thought that was interesting and it was kind of a cool thing to see it was a little different because i was checking the other ones and going i was expecting it to just be this yeah

11:31Speaker 0

he i think it reads it reads your recent casts and create something

11:35Speaker 1

and create something based

11:36Speaker 0

on it he had one he had one for like roasting it was like roast me so you could like it would read your casts and then roast you and then oh funny there were some other ones he's been playing with it

11:45Speaker 1

it's great i missed the roast one bring that back i wanna try that one out and see what it says although i'm scared but i think that would be fun that'd be a lot

11:54Speaker 0

and this is jacob right j r f atjr

11:57Speaker 1

f yep

11:58Speaker 0

so follow him if you're not

12:00Speaker 1

yep that is the one then we're getting a lot of like 2023 things what's the podcast episode that most changed your mind in 2023 and i thought that was interesting there was a lot of moz on here with balaji lex freeman do you have any like podcasts that stand out to you from 2023 besides our

12:26Speaker 0

i mean hey

12:31Speaker 1

that's hard i because i i keep thinking of ones that i've actually participated in and because they stand out because obviously they're just a little firmer memory

12:42Speaker 1

but i've you know it's been 2023 was interesting because i did a lot of like interviews and hosting and things like that so it was a little different but when i think about ones that i've listened to that impacted me like i i think more of the shows than the individual episodes i think and i think the shows were like overpriced jpegs was a big one for me ufo is a new one that i'm tracking that i'm really enjoying and i think it's also i'm enjoying it because it's also on chain first right it's focused on similar approach to what we're doing so that was yeah

13:18Speaker 0

you sent me a link to the ufo 1

13:21Speaker 1

yeah

13:21Speaker 0

with

13:23Speaker 1

the you

13:23Speaker 0

had in you had in

13:24Speaker 1

yeah mhmm yeah it's in that one they're talking about on chain media so that one definitely stuck with me and there's a few from overpriced jpegs that stuck with me boys club is a new one for me this year and that their feelings check-in there's been a few that have stuck with me pretty pretty hard so that's been interesting what about you vincent

13:49Speaker 0

past year i just unless i've i like the keyword i used for this past year was kind of it's just manic like there it was there was so much and over such a wide range

14:00Speaker 1

welcome to webex writing yeah

14:02Speaker 0

and when i was writing kind of my intentions for and and kind of i don't do resolutions but kind of yeah i like that how i wanna pivot i'm kind of looking for more focus more focus in 2024 but i really enjoyed the the just kind of open the fire hose and read listen experiment like do everything so i so then when you came what was the one thing unless i've actually spent time revisiting i i don't have an answer

14:27Speaker 1

yeah it's it's hard because there's there's so much i totally agree i'm like constantly being fed content so it's hard to sort through them but there are some that i revisit or they'll pop back in my head or i'll think of it and those are the ones that like yeah that stuck that really stuck i will say the book deal what's it called book deal it's the new york times one with it wasn't really a podcast but it was with elon that stuck with me

14:55Speaker 0

the deal book deal book deal book

14:56Speaker 1

that was i was like book deal book was that was that was crazy

15:01Speaker 0

that was the g f y

15:03Speaker 1

yes yes

15:04Speaker 0

it was incredible

15:05Speaker 1

it was incredible so that one like definitely you know sticks with me and pretty much any time sam bankman fried opened his mouth until he was arrested

15:16Speaker 1

i was pretty much on that constantly but i like these sort of revisits of things and you know kinda thinking back we had a few others happy new year's

15:27Speaker 0

back going back to going back like just going back to the friend tech and deepgram so when i reread that and i was like oh it was like it was something about friend tech got popularized in september yeah that literally feels like 5 years ago

15:42Speaker 1

yeah

15:43Speaker 0

to me and i was like it was just in september so i don't know how also when

15:47Speaker 1

we started this show

15:50Speaker 0

i don't know how you're asking me to like go back and remember something from 12

15:53Speaker 1

years ago it's crazy like the amount of i i don't understand time anymore because it can't it doesn't make sense when i think about just that like looking at that picture and thinking that was a year ago and then if i think through everything else that's happened in nouns in that year it seems like it has to be 10 years ago like it can't possibly be 12 months ago like it just can't it's it seems imp and like and and same thing i've only you and i have only known each other for

16:24Speaker 0

6 months that's wild right yeah and i and so yeah so you posted your picture of this was a year ago there's a lot of kind of the reflection yeah and i saw and ivy posted in forecast her and ivy i know you're i don't know if you're still in there in the chat but i loved her posting a photo of something from like kind of or or a photo of this year but kind of even revisiting back of where you were mhmm 3 years earlier and to just reflect on and and and i'm also gonna go back into the lexicon of how farcaster changes you yes so just the ability of like you jump into the seniors and people are

16:57Speaker 1

we're changing you

16:58Speaker 0

kind of growing and creating and and then taking that minute to reflect on you know no one's we're not done you know growth growth never stops but it's a nice theme

17:08Speaker 1

and i'm i'm a i'm a completely different person than i was a year ago i will be a completely different person a year from now i am certain of it and a lot of that's going to be due to you all i'm sure because i agree with you it does change you farcaster changes you web 3 changes you farcaster changes you more hi bias

17:28Speaker 0

for the better definitely

17:29Speaker 1

for the better

17:30Speaker 0

is it for the better

17:31Speaker 1

100% my life is better than it was a year ago it's better than it was 2 years ago by far like

17:38Speaker 0

okay last night it was new new last night was new year's eve my 2 teenagers were my my 2 teenagers were out and i was not waiting up for them so i sent a group text to the to the family chat you know happy new year good night and get home safely and my 15 year old responded back she said g n farcaster

18:01Speaker 0

so she was trolling me yeah but i bring that up because i think farcaster has made me better but my family definitely notices how much time i spend with you all and they will troll me so crazy and it's hysterical

18:13Speaker 1

i get i get trolled often as well very much very much so for everything that i do but literally my mother always just says because of a little noun swag my mother will just say how's the how's the bitcoin thing going and we just go great mom great i love that i am a different person because of the little noun swag i am so glad that i could help with that alright we gotta boogie through we got a few more things to chat about i did want to mention oh 2 2023 feature of the year should go to mint with warps i completely agree with that i don't i really don't i think it's underrated i think it's underrated that minting process is incredibly underrated in terms of the ease of use and that it then goes into a self custody wallet like it's beyond so i think we'll i don't know i think we'll see more applications of that in in use cases in the next year for sure i do want to mention a few things dan in case anyone's wondering he has gotten to eat 5 types of mole in 18 hours so we do have a a new mole picture and it's kinda nice so there you go

19:29Speaker 0

i love her i love her redemption arc

19:31Speaker 1

we gotta have a redemption arc farcat mint history is a thing of beauty that is really funny how all of a sudden farcats just popped off sold out and now are being given like airdrops and things like that degens what are you gonna do and along those same lines farts is back farts too

19:54Speaker 0

farts is back

19:55Speaker 1

but i did like what chris carrela said long on bill z h persevered through a hard mistake with farts v 1 learned from it got help from farcasters and relaunched and so far i think it this said 4.5 but i think it i think it was up to like 11 eth or something and basically doubled the treasury of purple so you know good for bill for sticking it out you know please next time can we have a branding discussion just a small one i get it i get i get that it's you know gonna get attention but also we could have picked something else just saying i don't like having farts in my wallet i just don't but i do

20:35Speaker 0

i don't have farts in my wallet i will let you all have your farts in your wallet

20:40Speaker 1

i have farts in my wallet i have i now have willie it's a whole thing anyway i'm not gonna go down that route because that's gonna be a long discussion

20:50Speaker 0

we'll wait why we need and this is why we need more women in web 3

20:53Speaker 1

we need more women in web 3 one thing i wanna mention filter 8 we opened up the farcasters collection on zuora and you can collaborate on this using an editor that he's created so you can go in and create your own version of the farcasters and add it to the collection which is really cool and i do need to get in and do that and then also along those same lines chris co created social media is art contribute to the exploration of casts as art imbued with power propose a cast by replying with a link and the criteria is that the text stands alone as art so all i could think think of was arjan and his poetry we need to make sure we put some of that in there there's also mint your favorite pick of 2023 as a picture it didn't happen nft for your chance to win 0.025 eth the winner's being selected today so it might be too late to enter but you may have some time and counts i just wanna mention counts there's a new channel called counts i i don't know what's going on i don't know what's going on but i believe

22:01Speaker 0

i love the counts channel

22:02Speaker 1

i believe it was the vampire from sesame street who started it is my understanding the counts channel and now you've got like a harvard professor in there actually counting things so there's that so

22:14Speaker 0

who's the harvard professor

22:15Speaker 1

scott comers oh who added something today which i did not understand at all but i'm like this is perfect for this channel

22:22Speaker 0

so there is one thread in the counts where people just started incrementally adding counting and i was waiting for it to it just it's very orderly

22:34Speaker 1

and somebody deleted a cast did you see that

22:37Speaker 0

somebody deleted 74 in the wrong order and i said we'd talk about it today and we even have phil joining from new zealand and i don't even know what time it is where you are because so we could talk about this on our show today 1 maybe because we're at a later

22:53Speaker 1

one they're counting in the chat they're counting in the chat i love it i don't know what's happening

23:01Speaker 0

someone and then someone casted they said oh something about needing to mute a channel and i felt like that was a subcast having to do with the counting because like my cast was just numbers

23:12Speaker 1

i already messed up the count i did 3 because i didn't see the fill had done 3 so i'm sorry i already messed up

23:17Speaker 0

well my observation on this my feeling on the counting is it is the silliest thing ever right it's so silly it seems so trivial but if you take a kind of a zoomed out view what you're doing it's like it's self organizing people from around the globe that don't know each other aligned to a mission of counting right like if you agree on a mission and how you can organize so i just i'm into kind of the future of work the future of organization the future of societies is decentralized on chain counting

23:44Speaker 1

on chain counting and here we are and with that please please move on to the counting channel to count how many you know we've done a lot of counting today actually we counted all of the farcaster stats the gm farcaster stats and now we're just gonna count various things thank you everyone that is our show we are over time adrienne what did i miss before we go

24:12Speaker 0

i'll just do a quick shout out if you look at my my jewelry i have a beautiful pink and green necklace that i am wearing that i bought using crypto using and this is grin grin's daughter made an online store and

24:28Speaker 1

grin's daughter with an online store that accepts crypto i mean

24:32Speaker 0

that's right she's 6 years old

24:34Speaker 1

and amazing amazing that's it this is the future alright everybody we hope you have a wonderful new year's day wherever you are in the world and we will see you on wednesday we'll be back with gm forecaster wednesday our usual time 8:30 am est or you can catch the recording after on zuora or apple or spotify and happy new year and happy new year to the chat you there's more people than i anticipated i literally said i think we're gonna be by ourselves today and so we appreciate you waking up and joining us and that's it bye bye everybody happy day happy day
