farcaster it is friday january 12th and you are live with the nanowish professor and adrienne and our very special fridays with friends guest grace from unlonely like building unlonely so the way we've been introducing people is the person and what they're building and you're building the thing that we use 3 days a week to do this show so there you go and we're very excited to have you here we're gonna do our regular show for the first 10 minutes and then we're gonna jump into a mini interview with grace but pop jump in we're gonna ask you about the stuff we're talking about and get your takes as well and we're gonna start with farcaster related projects received over $1,000,000 in retro pgf funding 3 from optimism and congrats to the recipients that was huge it was so fun yesterday to see all these different farcaster builders getting funded and it was kiwi it was launchcaster i don't there was a whole bunch of them and i i don't remember them all but there was a ton and that's why i didn't list all i wasn't pulling those casts i felt bad but on top of that too there were other projects that are really connected with farcaster that got funding as well that may not be building for farcaster but nounsbuilder is 1 zuora the nouns square like so there were so many related projects and it was just amazing to see so that was some fun news yesterday did unlonely try for an optimism grant

1:52Speaker 1

we didn't apply yeah i don't know when i thought about i guess the public goods funding it didn't like for us to have already raised vc funding it didn't feel like maybe it was that was the intent of it that being said i think a lot of vc backed startups did end up applying for it so i guess something to not like immediately write off in the future but no we didn't apply but it's it seems like it was a really really great result for a lot of people

2:17Speaker 0

yeah it was and it was great to see kiwi i know kiwi got some funding so it was great to see

2:21Speaker 1

for him

2:23Speaker 0

but yeah i think that maybe i'm lonely could look at it more from the community perspective and maybe supporting the creators on you know maybe supporting the creators on yeah

2:32Speaker 1

honestly i mean i do i have something that ties into that later that we can get

2:37Speaker 0

and i think actually you know that was what i was thinking too is you know adrienne we should maybe apply for some funding next time so that might be something we roll into our into our plans moving on we have a new channel suggestions are now live but what that means is the top of your feed especially from mobile you'll see it is different once you update your app and you'll see the channels that you have not read they have unread casts in there will appear first which is great but now like my my four little pins are now like because i if i've already read they're now too far away so i like i want them back this way but the question is adrienne is this the major announcement

3:23Speaker 2

well i think it was end of day friday we said by end of day

3:27Speaker 0

he said

3:27Speaker 2

i didn't even see any i'm gonna say no my money is on no i'm holding out for something bigger the scene bigger

3:33Speaker 0

what do

3:33Speaker 2

you think minor

3:34Speaker 0

what do you wanna see what do you think

3:37Speaker 2

i still don't know

3:38Speaker 0

you still don't know i still i still think muting channels but i don't know we'll see but this this might be it maybe they were like oh we thought it was major we've been working on this for months so i don't know we'll see i guess later today we'll know i don't think dan has posted anything yet it was only varun so we shall see also there is a new f c hyphen devs channel now live please join if you're building something on farcaster it is it's a good moment to ditch the telegram dev chat and move to a fully dev support channel with good moderation that was woja's suggestion and suggest it and it shall appear so if you are building from the dev side make sure you jump in that channel because that's probably where most of the updates will be i really loved this cast from dan the other day about how do channels increase distribution for a cast if you cast in a channel you have the chance based on how much engagement the cast gets to have the cast get recommended to people who don't follow you not feeling a channel just cast it goes to your followers so cast in a channel if cast hits engagement threshold it will be shown to others so there were some confusion about that i saw a lot of people talking about what happens when i cast in the home feed and all those things so it was good to have that clarification from dan and adrienne are you still primarily casting in channels not casting in channels what's what's your what's your go to and how about you grace

5:11Speaker 2

i'm doing my best to cast in channels it is not easy i love cameron's new no channel channel i won't even cast there i just can only cast in my home feed i try to do channels this week i think i've been probably 90% replies and maybe only a few top level casts i don't know why been more just looking for some connections so haven't had any haven't had any original thoughts this week

5:42Speaker 0

no original thoughts just reply you're you're a reply guy this week oh that's absolutely right you know reply guys hey dewofi is proven reply guys end up towards the top of the active feed so there you go grace how about you what are you are you mostly a cast and channels kind of person or mostly a cast on the home feed kind of person

6:01Speaker 1

i think i'm more of a home feed kind of person and to adrian's point more of a reply gal as

6:06Speaker 0

well reply gal okay

6:08Speaker 1

yeah yeah that's great

6:09Speaker 0

some reply gals going here today i've i'm prob i'm mostly been casting in channels i had a couple times where i'm like this doesn't fit anywhere my my issues around central time zone really doesn't fit anywhere i'm just gonna throw it on the home feed because i was just whining whiny channel that's what it is

6:29Speaker 1

honestly i think a whining channel would serve a great purpose i think people want a space where they can just complain maybe

6:34Speaker 0

just complain just just vent about random totally random things like i like seriously was just i have been confused for 2 days because now i'm in central time zone and nothing makes sense because everything's in eastern or pacific i think we need to hijack stoic's wine channel he's got a w i n e channel

6:55Speaker 2

which is a high wine

6:56Speaker 0

and then bring your wine yeah i

6:58Speaker 2

think we all hijack it and just kind of complain in there

7:02Speaker 0

that could be it that could be a plan okay moving on psa from dan if you're getting unwanted direct cast you can flip the switch to make dcs only from people you follow or if there are only a few unwanted users mute them so that was a good little tip from dwr and i loved this war cast dao year over year that's d a u not d a o daily active users january 11 2023 was we had 1544 january 11 2024 we had 7532 and it was interesting to see the full breakdown from 20 2021 where it was 2 that's 2 maroon just anamaroon and then to where we are now so that's progress from 2 to you know 75100 plus daily active users that's pretty good that's pretty good in in 3 years so not bad long way to go

8:03Speaker 2

long way to go and i think total registered fids who have with paid storage is only about 50,000 so kind of yep even the ratio of daily to total

8:15Speaker 0

needs work no i think it's not bad we're getting there we're getting there i think it's not bad

8:19Speaker 2

grace what what how low is your fit sid

8:24Speaker 0

your fid

8:25Speaker 2

how low is your fid when did you join what's up when did you join forecaster were you there when it was just like messages coming rolling in twice a day

8:37Speaker 1

i joined i wanna say august 2020 oh my god was that 2022

8:46Speaker 0

probably may

8:47Speaker 1

yeah i think it was

8:48Speaker 0

yeah i think you were there before me and i was probably november december 22 and i think

8:53Speaker 2

you were

8:53Speaker 0

already on so you must have a pretty low fid we gotta go check her check her fid

8:59Speaker 1

yeah how do i check it

9:00Speaker 0

it's actually on your profile oh this is a oh my god we get to share a little bit of education there oh yeah on your profile there's a little info well unless i switched it you click on the little eye and it will show you

9:14Speaker 1

i do it on my phone or does it have to be on

9:16Speaker 0

your phone i might be on mobile either i mean on web either one probably

9:19Speaker 1

there's a k

9:20Speaker 0

and and you can just see which what your number is and it shows you how low how low you are i was surprised i'm surprised how low i am i don't even realize that i'm like i'm 4167 and i think i joined and then wasn't very active for a while so it just doesn't seem like i've been on that long so i think that was the reason i don't see

9:42Speaker 1

the i

9:42Speaker 0

yeah say again

9:43Speaker 1

i don't see the i am i missing it

9:45Speaker 0

i used to be there oh click click triple dots three dots there i think it's there

9:51Speaker 1

there's an o about yeah f i d 11:8:0:9

9:56Speaker 0

oh you're later than we thought so maybe you were 2023

10:00Speaker 1

maybe

10:00Speaker 2

interesting no that's 2022

10:03Speaker 0

is that 2022 still yeah it must be

10:05Speaker 1

must be must

10:06Speaker 0

be a little later in 2023 2 okay we are moving on to base is the farcaster community's preferred chain by a lot so that is pretty impressive we had both a couple folks post about that including jesse cool to see base as the most transacted network on farcaster now we've got a 10 x 100 x a 1000 x the number of people and things on chain which i agree and we definitely love base here on lonely's on base our whole gm farcaster podcast collection is on base we love base and i'm gonna just pull up a couple more quick things and then we are gonna switch over to chat with grace dan's original concepts for the farcaster logo that be rejected and you will notice in the replies most people saying thank you to vee because these were not great oh my gosh these were

11:03Speaker 1

not great looks like a gravestone marker

11:07Speaker 0

right it looks like a gravestone marker and even the arch like it's much better in purple thank you v we we like we really just wanna give you a shout out for being the the one with more a little more taste in design

11:23Speaker 1

yeah

11:23Speaker 0

in terms of founders so but you understand sometimes it's challenging when you have a a cofounder there grace so you know you have to make adjustments

11:34Speaker 1

oh what my cofounder is challenging what would ever make you think that

11:40Speaker 0

and speaking of it we're gonna switch gears a little bit and chat about unlily so i'm gonna turn this over to adrienne so adrienne let's chat with grace about what she's building

11:52Speaker 2

yes grace obviously we know i'm lonely but can we start with the explain it like we're 5 or i'm gonna actually not say that explain it explain it like i'm 75

12:08Speaker 0

that that's a better one i like that

12:11Speaker 1

i would be really curious to hear like anyone in cryptos explain it like i'm 5 like do they just skip over the entire like ethos of crypto entirely

12:20Speaker 0

kinda have to yeah because that takes a lot you need a whole class in that

12:24Speaker 1

yeah like as soon as you throw in like i don't know autonomy and decentralization in there like you've lost the 5 year old

12:30Speaker 0

yeah exactly exactly

12:32Speaker 2

so what what is yeah what's un lonely what is un lonely

12:36Speaker 0

so those who we can do

12:37Speaker 1

yes unlonely is a streaming platform for video streamers built on the blockchain on chain so with a bunch of fun gamified features which i think you guys have maybe played around with i'm not sure if you've ever done a little yeah maybe some of the voting

12:52Speaker 0

early on done we haven't done the voting in this particular stream but i've participated when there's been some some betting going on nice

13:01Speaker 1

it's been fun

13:02Speaker 0

it's been a lot of fun yeah i mean that's kind of

13:04Speaker 1

the long and short of it like we built a streaming platform and we've just been experimenting for like over the past maybe year and a half now with a bunch of like different types of on chain interactions that would make the content more fun but also drive more value to both the creators and the viewers and just try to like make that engagement not feel super one-sided not have like a platform taking you know 50% of the fees and like all that information is on chain so we can always like feed it into everywhere else that we exist on the interwebs

13:38Speaker 2

which is amazing congratulations and you you're saying we so does that mean you have a cofounder

13:43Speaker 1

it does mean i have a cofounder yeah he he is blood related to me so you know that it actually is a great working dynamic but yes i think nanush professor is you know she's she's giggling because brian

13:56Speaker 0

i met i had an opportunity to meet brian in person i wrote you

14:01Speaker 2

at art basel art basel

14:03Speaker 0

yes and it was it was a great experience yeah and he is he is who you see on screen i will say that and all the good all all the good of that as well like the energy and it's it was a lot of fun it was a lot of fun

14:17Speaker 2

i was that was gonna i was just gonna ask how far apart is his irl persona to internet persona

14:24Speaker 0

you know better than i do

14:25Speaker 1

i think brian is very himself like it's something that i'm honestly like as his older sibling have admired about him since since he was probably in like high school like there was very much like a definitive period where he was like i am just not gonna give a fuck anymore about what people think about me and at the time i was like this is alarming because you need to you need to make friends and like you know you need to like learn some life things and then maybe get to that point or something like that like i was i was a little bit concerned but i think in the long run it's definitely paid off for him i actually think he's a little bit calmer in real life than he is on the internet but that being said maybe if you if you meet him in a social environment and he's already kind of like up on the energy then he's basically exactly the same

15:12Speaker 0

he's not i mean it wasn't like his full on like yeah

15:15Speaker 1

like he wasn't like trying to

15:17Speaker 0

with you it's pretty much like it was it was okay i know i'm seeing the authentic brian when i see him on lolly yeah like it's definitely you know it's not it's not him just playing a role or whatever absolutely it's like him it's just him and whichever

15:31Speaker 1

he's not capable i think of playing a persona like it's not not in his character

15:38Speaker 2

grace do you guys have other siblings

15:40Speaker 1

no it's just us 2

15:42Speaker 0

i could not work with my younger brother i don't even know how you how you do that so it's pretty it's pretty impressive

15:47Speaker 1

it was it was never something that i ever considered to be in my lifetime like i i like in if you had asked me about this yeah maybe like 3 4 years ago i just would not have seen any of it coming because so many things had to lead up into that i had to leave my previous big tech corporate boring job and like take a step away from that that led me into crypto very accidentally that led axe brian into crypto because i introduced him to some of the people i was working with that led him to being like i wanna be a founder in crypto and then he eventually kind of like dragged me back into it so it really was like yeah just kind of like a bunch of unforeseen steps that brought us here but i couldn't be happier about it like this is a dream come true i think especially for my mom she's thrilled she's like wow i did something amazing here

16:40Speaker 0

that's really cool that's really sweet to hear that's really sweet to hear good for you hey shout out to moms

16:45Speaker 2

shout out

16:46Speaker 0

to all the moms yep

16:47Speaker 2

shout out to moms does your mom use unlonely or forecast or social media how digital how digitally inclined is she

16:56Speaker 1

i wouldn't say she's very digital native like i still kind of have to help her with all of her web logins and account setup sometimes and like help her around on the ipad but she she really the intention is there so she does try to join on lonely streams whenever she can we've set up a wallet for her and she will play it on all of her devices and she'll try to tell her friends about it and they'll be very confused

17:22Speaker 0

you know what's funny i'm sitting here thinking i'm probably the same age as your mom and that's just funny but yeah you're talking about her the way i talk about my mom and it's like

17:32Speaker 1

but you exist in a different generation i you

17:35Speaker 0

know what i mean but it's like but it's but i'm probably the same age it's really kinda funny go ahead adrianne what's the guy for

17:43Speaker 2

alright i've got all my hot okay so the question we ask everyone grace so we're gm forecaster we're on chain i'm having trouble speaking today i wanna know everyone's first experience with social media

18:03Speaker 2

and obviously everyone's best experience as forecasters so that's the but what's your first

18:09Speaker 1

that's probably true my first i think would have to be it was like a precursor blog to myspace called zanga or or or it was this thing called formspring which was like anonymous i think it's pre yik yak like anonymous questions type of thing and both of these things were incredibly toxic it was like me me being like you know like a 5th grader or something and the form spring yeah like it was basically like people would just put it up on their profiles and then people could ask all sorts of questions and it just got very nasty very quickly like people ask really really mean questions because it was all anonymous everything about it was anonymous except for the person who was answering questions so that was that was interesting and then yeah xanga was really fun because it was like building your own blog and it was kind of like myspace where you could kind of customize things and stuff like that but mine got hacked by i think someone in my class and then they they like changed my profile to say that i had a huge crush on this guy in the class that i didn't and it was really it it was very yeah it all felt very mean at that time

19:24Speaker 0

that is not a good first experience that's not a good first experience that's not

19:25Speaker 1

a good first experience that was good

19:27Speaker 0

i'm glad you stuck around that is not a good

19:29Speaker 2

was your password was your password password 123

19:32Speaker 1

probably probably yeah i don't know i was like not

19:35Speaker 2

your password grace

19:37Speaker 1

it was probably grace it was made too easy to hack clearly yeah

19:40Speaker 2

it's amazing though but you grew up like you had social media you're a you're a native

19:44Speaker 0

9 yeah definitely yeah

19:46Speaker 2

that was wild

19:50Speaker 2

what's your favorite channel on farcaster

19:54Speaker 1

what's my favorite channel on farcaster i mean the one that i monitor the most is obviously gonna be the unlonely channel so i have to say that one

20:02Speaker 0

but i was gonna say

20:05Speaker 1

bad takes has been pretty funny hot takes

20:07Speaker 0

pretty funny

20:08Speaker 1

always bad takes like there there's some crossover there but those are always good memes memes channel memes always good

20:15Speaker 0

always good memes is always good

20:17Speaker 1

yeah always good

20:18Speaker 2

are you a are you a completionist

20:21Speaker 1

what do you mean by that

20:23Speaker 0

alright so this is

20:24Speaker 2

a vocabulary word i learned on farcaster so the completionists of the worlds are the ones who need all their emails read their channels read their task list done kind of you gotta get to the bottom and not have any you know like it's so the and it was a ui question because if you remember there's like dots on channels that tell you for the completionists of the world it would give them anxiety

20:47Speaker 1

yes speaking of you

20:48Speaker 0

as one i don't yes

20:50Speaker 1

i don't like there being lots of unread notifications on my phone so i either need to like hide them if i don't plan on addressing them or they need to be read

20:58Speaker 0

i you're a completionist really interesting because you would hate my phone there's just red dot it's just covered in red it looks like measles it's but what do you do with that

21:09Speaker 1

like are you overwhelmed

21:10Speaker 0

do you no i just ignore it like it doesn't it does i i look for the things i need to address but it just doesn't i've yeah i literally have like i don't know one of my emails has like 300 and something thousand unread or something crazy so yeah yeah i just ignore it

21:25Speaker 1

that would gave me anxiety i i do identify as a completionist

21:30Speaker 2

i can i can i can tell that is very clear for that yeah okay 3 3 more questions morning person or night owl

21:39Speaker 1

night owl obviously

21:42Speaker 0

yep thank you for just killed her we just killed her we moved it back a little bit just

21:46Speaker 1

thank you for your accommodations

21:48Speaker 2

yeah if you were gonna write a book what topic would it be about

21:52Speaker 0

oh

21:55Speaker 1

it would okay so i think i think my favorite book that i've read to this day is this novel kamsa by herman hesse and it's kind of a cross of mythology spirituality faith and kind of like simplicity of life so it would be something in that realm it'd be kind of like like a mystical philosophy but not too hippy dippy like grounded maybe in like some personal experience or or some like far off story land that i end up coming up with

22:26Speaker 2

nice very cool shout out spirituality channel

22:29Speaker 0

if

22:30Speaker 2

you haven't checked that out and the last question and this came from our audience how are the vibes

22:38Speaker 0

the vibes i think it's dollar sign vibe as a token token

22:44Speaker 1

i'm so glad that you asked because this is what i wanted to come back to with regards to creators getting something so i mean all of the monetized features on your channels you guys you earn things immediately to your channel it just gets plopped into whatever wallet address that you signed in with but the vibes are great this is like an unknown native token that we've launched that exists across all the channels so it's not it's no longer specific to your own channel you don't have to kind of like go through any setup to make sure that it's launched and then you know do all the marketing or promotion of it it's literally just measuring the vibes on unlonely at any given time so people can come into your stream if they're watching right now they can buy the vibes if they if they're liking it they can sell if they want like totally up to them we just launched this feature like i think yesterday basically and then brian did a like i don't know 14 hour marathon stream

23:41Speaker 1

tried trying to boost the price and like it it worked pretty well so far yeah

23:46Speaker 0

like i see this like i'm looking so i just relaunched my app and now i have at the top of the screen this whole like buy sell chart like it just appeared i'm like okay that's new yeah wild this is great this is great i was there the first day when he was talking it through and deciding what to do yeah and then i hadn't been able to jump on again so this is really really interesting yeah to see what's what's developed since that first that first approach

24:18Speaker 1

yeah i mean we're probably like taco

24:19Speaker 0

i'm sorry that was taco cat or something or or tofecat

24:22Speaker 1

yes he was tofecat tofecat yeah yeah yeah tofecat that's what it was yes

24:28Speaker 0

so it was pre vibes it was tofecat it was

24:29Speaker 1

pre vibes vibes is very separate to tofecat tofecat is like him trying to see if he can tap into this whole meme coin zeitgeist thing that's happening right now and that was also really interesting just given that like so he was using the voting feature for that as kind of like a community voting mechanism and like seeing what people wanted this meme coin to develop into and people were picking solana they had like really strong feelings about all of it it was it was very interesting to see like where where the where the viewers were leading toward

25:02Speaker 0

interesting and then so is vibes but vibes is an erc 20 or is it on base yes oh cool yeah

25:07Speaker 1

there you go

25:08Speaker 0

amazing this is cool this is neat we haven't really played around with the voting mechanism yet or anything like that so that's something we'll probably dig into soon and see i think there's fun things we could we could vote on like for example i almost put a a bet in today like is this the major is this the major release tonight the major release is this it or no yeah so that was like you know we could do things like that that i'm sure it would be a lot of fun so we just have to think it through and make it fit for us we're not gonna bet on like i don't know crazy things yeah we do have to i know we're running a little over but i do wanna ask about love on leverage and if you're that's coming back isn't it

25:48Speaker 1

it is coming back we're gonna do it we're doing a season 2 this valentine's week so february 12 through 16th roughly

25:57Speaker 0

i have to say you were quite the matchmaker and

25:59Speaker 2

you did the job

26:00Speaker 0

like you you had some good you had some good instincts there i don't know how you did that but that was pretty good i may have to hire i may have to hire you at some point

26:07Speaker 1

we said we have to wait to work services are available or

26:12Speaker 0

you should be out but we're looking for age appropriate so you're you know that's a little more challenging that that is fair enough to come across anybody just get it this out

26:19Speaker 1

of my mind sure

26:20Speaker 0

honestly at least in the forties

26:22Speaker 1

prop if you were on the next season of love on leverage that would be iconic

26:28Speaker 0

that's like golden love on leverage like that comes in like season 20 or something after you go through all the young people and then we can move on but i don't know about that i i don't know we'll we'll we'll chat

26:43Speaker 1

i'm planting the seed i'm planting the seed we could do a

26:47Speaker 0

love on leverage live at east denver that would be funny

26:50Speaker 1

that would be

26:51Speaker 0

that way we could hunt out hunt them out hunt them around so we can find some folks

26:54Speaker 1

pull them into the booth

26:55Speaker 0

and be like another reason for you to come to east denver adrianne

27:01Speaker 0

count count me in

27:03Speaker 2

okay that'll be where it went from i'm i'm there

27:09Speaker 0

so we need to wrap up we are at the end but i do wanna mention you mentioned a couple things that i wanted to just pull up a couple of casts that reminded me yesterday i did you were talking about questions and i think it was the you know on a different on a different platform when you were young and i did yesterday an inverse ama and it was really fun so speaking of questions but not anonymous right so there are people that you know and it was really fun and i you know it was 6 who had mentioned it couple days ago and then i was like hey i'm on planes i'm gonna just do this and see what happens and it was a lot of fun so i didn't get a chance to talk about that earlier i wanted to mention it and also speaking of the spirituality channel christian wife looks over my shoulder and sees the spirituality channel wife oh here comes the weirdos me i created that channel wife eject eject where is the eject button from this conversation so my comment back was at least the weirdos on farcaster are less weird so

28:15Speaker 1

so funny

28:15Speaker 0
