it should be streaming you might be but i don't see it i don't see that
i can see our page
you see us okay here we are we are live gm farcaster good morning welcome this is gm farcaster 21 minutes of farcaster news to start your day and for those who don't know 21 minutes is selected because that is the average amount of time that it takes to drink a cup of coffee i have my chai tea and today i do have oh you can't quite see it but this is my new mug from notre dame so it's a little he's a little
oh wow in there yeah that is very cool
it's kinda crazy but i had to do it nice so i was at i was at a conference the past few days at notre dame the university not the cathedral many people were confused i was not at an a conference at the cathedral i was at the university i know there literally i had multiple people ask me
they they know you never you never come to europe right they know that
not only that but like who's holding a a an entrepreneurship educators conference at notre dame cathedral and but then sir i had people go like oh it's you are next year next year we go next year we go yeah
yeah we're doing that
we're doing it next year this is funny but it's like real real real thing that happened and so i've been there for a few days so i had to get a mug while i was there and i'll be chatting a little more about that you know later on when i have time to unpack it and and do some writing about it and chris cocreated welcome adrian adrian is traveling today so my usual cohost is is in a plane we've been we've been crossing paths i was in a plane the other day so i have the fabulous cohost chris cocreated you are our 1st guest cohost so this is exciting provenance nownish folks love some provenance let me check
let's click this
let's go come on
i love it i absolutely love it oh we gotta clip this that's so funny very nice very nice hold on i see i see i keep my nowishness you know under wraps when i'm with adrian just to not make it so so so now you know what i mean
but that's a problem
we gotta i should see that that's funny
i just realized the a you very nearly met adrianne at that first live nimes square i invited her because i was with her and i invited her and she didn't come
she told me that like we had this revelation the other day where like we were talking about you and that you were gonna be the the guest cohost and she and she told me where she first met you in person i'm like oh that's where i first met chris and then we started talking i'm like oh she's like i she's like i think you might have even met you or and i'm like it's really funny so it was always destiny it was destiny to
to be
to to be hanging with adrianne you know it was all it's all preordained
so what's going on in farcaster
so what's going on in farcaster today big thing that i wanted to to mention is that we have only a few more days for before permissionless sign ups start happening so if you have invites you wanna get those out before october 7th so dwr dan posted just a couple days ago that yeah if you if you have them use them or you will lose them and if you need some you can dm him for or sorry direct direct cast do you see him that sounds weird and get a couple invites if you if you wanna invite 1 or 2 people so that's a big thing and yeah so what was jumping out at you chris before i jump into something else what has been jumping out at you about farcaster in this past well we've been off since we didn't do a show friday so since last wednesday you get a lot to lot to work with it
oh my gosh that's too much it's like just just like ask me how my morning's been
how's your morning been
i've got more idea does that that thing that's kind of jumped to me though i must say george with some funds new platform where you can go in and check your own activity or go and have a look at someone else's activity what your best costs have been and what's got most engagement and all of that so that was a lot of fun i just realized i don't
know there's so many people
who are so it's
something caster it's probably something caster
hang on i pinned it it is it is farcaster user stats that's right you go
faster user stats so that's fantastic have you checked yours out and what was your top cast
well my top cast was the we are farcaster piece that i made out of the ens the farcaster handles of of everyone last month so yeah that's kind of quite interesting
that's very interesting i gotta go in and check mine out because i have no idea i haven't had a chance to do that yet so i gotta go see what my my top ones are i have no idea i i i don't know i don't know i don't
know how i i don't know how far back it goes actually because i'm i'm kind of surprised that my initial piece that i did with everyone's pfps we cast like which i did start this year sometime that's not on there at all and i know i had yeah i know i had more mints than my minimum likes so my my lowest likes is 35 on this screen and i had more minutes than 35 so unless people were minting without liking which seems unlikely
it is possible
i i can see that
you know some people some just just go right to the action and don't think to you know put a reaction you know so that's that's interesting
but my guess is my guess is that beta's dropping off the back end of this
yeah it could be or it could be yeah it could be a cutoff point of some sort
but it's super cool it's super useful
could it be the migration is it only doing it for since a migration maybe that's also possible that's possible that would be it that could be it but i don't know i don't know but that's interesting i have to go in and check that out but yeah very cool and the other thing is there was a there was a post about channel stats and guess who's suddenly like at you know towards the top there now it's like now i'm saying they just took over farcaster chris and i have been over here like hey farcaster's really good you all should come on over we were just a little quiet about it apparently and then like now i'm 40 he's like i'm going over here and you all should come and everyone's like okay
k you're coming yeah yeah it's great because there's proper there's proper conversation going on at last
yes it is fantastic it's fantastic to see that communication happening and i remember when talking to dan at farcon about daos using channels and and how we could get those more active and i said you know it it'll happen because it's such an obvious use case to me and and the more we build it in the more it makes sense the more conversations that are happening you'll have those greater activity so to me that's like a perfect use case for channels and firecaster it keeps it public but you also feel like you're talking to each other it's threaded
you know it's and what's really interesting is as we start getting community clients coming through you're gonna be able to narrow down those conversations as well so if it gets starts getting too noisy you'll be able to look at that conversation as anyone who wants to have an opinion anyone that holds a token anyone that holds a token and you'll stop it you know you'll be able to people to do things where you can just say i only wanna hear from my 8 buddies yeah on this and
don't do that
screen everything else out
yeah let's hear from everybody go beyond your buddies i'm in a lot of d i'm on a in a lot of chats like that where you know we talk to each other a lot but it's also good to hear those other voices because sometimes you're wrong you know sometimes you get in your own little tiny echo chambers so but i do think it has value as well i know i'm moving
but what i mean is that it be just become a toggle it's not like yeah only us talking over here it's like everyone's talking over here and you just filter in the voices you wanna hear at that at that moment
amazing and i think i'm just looking at our chat here chris it could be because likes got pruned over time oh that's a good point yeah that's a really good point and thank you arjan for sharing the link i appreciate that do invites still exist yes they do so if you have any there are some that have been going out for for example for some of the dao channels he had been sending out some for lil nouns and nars and things like that to onboard some folks so there are some invites and if you need any tldr you can direct cast to dan and he will give you a couple he said 1 or 2 he was being a little stingy on that last part like pruning yeah it seems like little tldr he'll get
he'll get in more than a couple of hours
he might give you more time he might
he got some credit there
so funny i wanna shift gears we this is a really fast show as you know like we're already you we're already halfway through chris like
oh yeah right like yeah
it's fast it's fast yeah
poke podcast stand someone build that plan the pipe cast plan
so what we wanna do is so and this is sort of in the envision of gm farcaster from the beginning is that we would have this you know morning talk show where we'd kinda talk about what's happening in farcaster and then shift to a guest who would have like a very short period of time 5 to 10 minutes to talk about what they're working on so i wanna shift gears to that because i i have loved what you've been doing from the beginning so you and i met through nouns a while ago year and a half ago or so like which is like you know 700 years yeah nft time so i've known you forever and i you know my first experience with you in terms of your art was was the the noun profiles so that was you know turning the nouns on the side and having this like totally different perspective and i just thought it was fabulous and so i love the way your creativity comes out it's really interesting to me but some of the things that you've done recently are so interesting they are like next level and i'm not sure everyone fully appreciates like what goes into that and like how special they are so could you talk a little bit about what you're doing with cocreated and some of these pieces like the spire like the we are forecaster that you've done and just share a little bit about about that
yeah so i i see myself as a community artist a community digital artist and and that is kind of artist as facilitator and it's this isn't about i've got this thing that i have to share and put out into the world it's it's more that there are these these ideas that we're all exploring together and that having a desire to to find ways for us to to dig into it and for me yes to release my creativity but to do it in combination with other people because that's where i get my energy from i get my energy from connecting and communicating and ultimately what i'm doing here is trying to have more fun and wrap it
all in a box of fun we've had
that before yeah exactly but i'm very serious about my fun i like i don't i i and i really think that there there is core things which are deep connections doing stuff that gets us in flow and and being playful and so i'm always pulling on those three threads and that's that's what i'm trying to do with my work and co created is me kind of taking that very seriously in a very playful way and going and going to the nth degree with how can we explore what's possible in web
3
so so i'm ex i'm currently building a farcaster client as an artwork for a community to come into and to create out of together
i love this
and it's it's definitely like a stretch leap if you know what i mean i don't quite know what this looks like but it's just the obvious screaming thing to me that's like i see i'm a community artist i've gotta make art inside a community and the best vehicle for community that i've found is farcaster so
i've yeah i'm really keen for people to come and kind of jump into that and and kind of the first expression of that is the senior spire which dropped last week and was a call that i put out with cameron about 2 months ago and we said seniors is such an inspiring idea from adrian at farcom
i wish i was here to touch on that and she and i still have to dive more into the seniors and explain that a little bit but yes i love it
you can you can go look at the artwork that might help exactly and and what what i did was i took all the input that we got in response to that there were about 50 50 contributions and put that into this kind of bubbling energetic mass as the first piece in the seniors series can
you talk about that spire like the what is the first piece and what is the plan for the rest
so the first piece is called the foundation and it is the the response and the energy that came out of farcon and the seniors and what everyone sort of said 2 months ago and i haven't actually sat down and chatted with cameron so this is tbc but what in terms of the details but the vision for it is that this is a a building progressive piece of work so that we will be continuing to iterate on it there will be so we've got floor 1 and there will be a second floor and a third and we'll keep building i guess as long as it kind of continues to make sense and there are there are 9 floors on this at the moment
okay was there a reason for the 9
no
chris i'm going for some deep philosophical meaning around the 9 and you you just blew it i'm just you could've made something up i'm just kidding
i could've i could've but then i don't want you know i don't wanna create great myths when there's nothing there
okay well we'll we'll come up with something cameron okay now that's your job you've worked with the reason for the 9 just pretend like you always had it and you just forgot to tell chris it'll be fine
because it's arjun's favorite number that's why
there we go it's arjun's favorite number perfect perfect love it that's perfect it works so there's like magic numbers you know there's a there are some that are magic you know to me like threes and sevens and things like that but anyway that's a whole other can of worms can you talk a little bit about this is the thing that i'm i'm kind of interested in that i don't quite understand is like how are you doing this from a technical perspective like things like the spire is probably a little different but like things like we are farcaster and and that you're pulling like this data to create a piece of art and how does that work sort of from the background in the background
i'm back end i've been teaching myself javascript html etcetera over over the past few years and particularly since kind of starting to have these ideas and it's like i really want to be able to physically bring them into the world so it's kind of it's just calling api i say just because it's freaking painful but it on the technical level it's calling apis getting the data in and then writing code that displays it so yeah so i know kind of i use canvases within html which is kind of it's just the way that anyone building a game or whatever will be doing it on like an html game you're just redrawing things but with the names and stuff it's because i built i basically initially built a an engine as it were to like lay out squares because i it was all built with pfps in mind right and so i was laying those out one at a time
within so i've got kind of behind that i've got a way of converting an image into a matrix that just depict that states where that particular image should sit in the piece and then i kind of adapted that to to take words and to write the words onto canvas but if you look at the the we are farcaster piece that's actually made up of 2 characters at a time into a grid which is brilliantly string straightforward when you first imagine it and then when you actually go to implement it it starts really messing around in some horrible ways you
know that to me so i've been in an entrepreneurship conference for 5 days and like that's you just explain entrepreneurship in a you know it's you get the idea and it seems like oh this is gonna be great and amazing and then you dive in and you're like oh this is hard
oh gosh yeah yeah yeah
yeah i really you know i appreciate you know this is what i see over and over again from those who kind of gravitate towards farcaster is that you know entrepreneurial like drive and spirit and like i'm just gonna teach myself how to do this initiative kind of thing you know which is amazing right and and mostly it's out of necessity of like you know i'm doing the same thing this this is a perfect example of it like yeah you know learning ovia learning all these things like i'm used to be an on air talent i just would show up and someone else would do the back end and now it's like oh i have to figure this out now so it's it's a lot believe it or not we're out of time i told you
yeah
so fast again but tell what are you working on now as we wrap up and like where can everyone find sort of what you're working on and and share that a little bit
yep so the the main focus is building out cocreated at this moment in time so follow me at co created i've got a i've got a forecast handle for that and you'll see it as it unfolds but yeah it's it's a an innovative experimental forecast to client that we're gonna collaboratively make art on every month
i love this i love this i love the lean into play that's another thing that i heard a lot about at this entrepreneurship educators conference but also you know just in general to me we've talked about that many times like if this isn't fun i'm not gonna do it so yeah yeah this is this is me taking you know time from the rest of my life to do things in web 3 and it has to be fun it has to be fun and we did have some comments on here why are 8 to 9 so lucky in crypto i don't know that's a great question but eights and nines are very lucky lucky in crypto so that's a great question we'll have to dive in more you know async on that one and it's we're done that's it
we're done
so i isn't that crazy yeah so thank you everybody don't go anywhere we'll we'll chat in the green room but for the stream thanks everyone it's a gm farcaster i'll be back with adrianne on wednesday and friday this week 8:30 am and we'll see you soon thanks again chris bye
pleasure bye everyone
