and again this is not adrienne this is ted not lasso and also not adrienne and i am so freaking excited to have you here today don't tell the others especially not toady and i know he's not watching because he's recording a a podcast right now but this has been the one i was looking forward to today the guest host the guest host i was most looking forward to was chatting with ted we've only had a chance to chat once before so i'm like i feel like i'm just like hanging with a friend and we're gonna we're gonna chat about all things farcaster right so so excited to chat with you so what we're gonna do is we're gonna jump into our news then our regular 21 minutes of farcaster news to start your day and then we're gonna take a little pause on the recording restart it and have a little mini interview for those who can hang on
you're getting a lot so right now i i have the unlonely chat on my phone and i usually can't follow it too well except when they throw up the things like they they shoot them up so they float and they just said good job on the voice over frame we will be talking about your voice over frame we're gonna talk about your frame experiments that's what i wanna get into in our little mini interview as well as sort of your backstory on farcaster but first we're gonna start with some news and this background that i have right now is our latest mint with warps and this is by priyanka i hope i'm saying that right amazing so beautiful so for those let me slide over for a little bit beautiful piece absolutely love it so that is up now to mint and moving on we also have a new experiment channel pass and i'm really excited to talk with you about this hosts can require a pass to cast in a channel users must pay 100 warps for a pass a pass can be revoked if a user ignores the norms the goal is to reduce spam in popular channels and you can read more there v went on to say passes are an experiment we're working with a small number of posts to pilot the feature and roll it out to a handful of channels if you're interested dm so what's your take on this and is this something you think you might use in tedit for example so you have your own channel are there other channels at farcon i assume you're one of the cohosts in that channel as well yeah what's your thoughts on that and and where where are the channels that you think it would be most useful and others that maybe maybe not
i think this is a great question and actually i took this by surprise so i don't know i don't know that much about it but ultimately you're paying use like to it's almost like channel monetization in a way right you're paying a 100 warps or $1 for access and i think anytime you introduce some sort of cost like cost wall you'll you kind of get to see like okay who actually wants to cast in here versus not and a 100 warps isn't that easy to get if you're just spamming right like you're not probably getting gifted warps you'll have to buy them and so i i'm interested in seeing how it does address spam in some of the larger channels like the forecaster channel is insane yeah probably unusable

there's so many who are like i'll go into it it's made channels for me because i like i'm a main feed main feed person i just don't go into a lot of the most popular channels now because i'm like it's they're not maintaining it yeah unless i know it's a good moderator but
and there's some of it like you know where early like farcaster is a great example that farcaster channel was an early channel and there really isn't a moderator right so they're just starting to add some of them so those kind of really got out of control yeah we learned the hard way with the nouns channel that so yeah sounds like that one one day just popped off and it was like oh my god what do we do and it was like we need mods right now because we didn't wanna put a mod in there and that's just like a whole you know philosophical thing it's not really but it was like very impractical so we had to adjust a little bit but it's interesting like i can see you know certain channels where it makes a lot of sense i actually think it could make sense for tetit i think it makes more sense with your subscription if it's token gated so yeah that would make more sense to me
but i have ted ed i have like ted channel that i think i would use the 100 warps thing or 100 warps gate for and then i have the club ted channel which i would then use exclusively for coding token gated but again i have this i think someone else cast about this recently i have a whole i think like token gated experiences are much more important than token gated content and we can get into that another time but i do so are you gonna use it for nouns
no i don't see us using it for nouns i i think if an nft token gating comes into play we might but it would have to be multiple to nfts it couldn't be just one because nouns is a bigger ecosystem than just the nouns holders so it's a little shifted but i would use i would use token gating for builderdao for that channel that i that i mod i don't think we'd use it for gm farcaster unless something got crazy we don't have a huge number of followers it's not a big deal so i think there's some some possibilities i can't see at this point using the warps pay channel option right now like i just don't think we have enough of a spam problem but it's good to have the option really
i think for ted too what what i i think it has like 6,000 followers in ted which is always like mind blowing and like i'm like what like what are you guys what are you guys doing here and so i think i would do it

yes that was my next thing that is up yep whoops nope it wasn't sorry okay direct casts are now searchable by name so so what you're not seeing ted is i'm showing the cast on screen while i read them i read them for our audio only listeners so for instance from varun direct casts are now searchable by name type a name to filter your list of conversations so you can easily find the one you're looking for live on web and rolling out to mobile the next 24 hours h t two cassie for the ship amazing right i needed that too like i i get lost and and i feel bad because there's people that i'm having active conversations with and it just gets off my you know front screen and i'm like sorry yeah lost it i lost you in the flood
i know and the worst is right now all of mine start with hey ted i know you're probably flooded as dms but and like that's the only preview that shows so like i can't even i can't even like it's okay yeah
and it's also probably the next thing they say is can you get me into farcon yeah i'm gonna guess that's the next part of that sentence that you can't see quite yet sometimes i'm gonna guess sometimes a few other cool things that they have done now you can verify a solana address on farcaster so go to settings verified address tap verify and address connect your wallet verifications are part of the protocol and are available on hubs so i expect there'll probably be a solana client coming soon so that's pretty interesting then we have this is a great cast from dan really helpful if you are new to farcaster and don't have an active badge yet why don't i have the active badge yet most common reason is your engaging cast score is less than 1.2 c formula below 2nd most common reason is the active badge job hasn't run yet 1 per day at 12 am pacific that was interesting 3rd most common reason is disconnecting your ethereum address so make sure you take a look at all these things and see if you if you're concerned about that and you don't have an active badge yet and you think you should check that check those notes and make sure you know most of the time we're just focusing on the 400 but there's other reasons that might be applying so so don't be hitting up dan in the dms don't do that that's in the don't do this channel don't do this don't hit him up in the dms like why don't i have my active badge yet he just told you but i do think you know it's been interesting to see the active badge kind of get tweaked and play out and people like really wanting it and like coveting it and it's kind of interesting to see that and see that happening especially from people who've been here a long time who could have had this by now yeah yeah you just needed to actually cast things that's the key
yes exactly also i feel like i i was worried i was like to get to 400 followers seems actually quite tough and so out of the entire active badge requirements i was like that's actually like pretty hard like i don't know

i don't know 400 people if i joined new i wouldn't have known anybody i would i would have gotten 0 followers
and that's why if you if you inviting somebody to farcaster or you know somebody i would highly recommend recasting their post welcoming them sharing them that's what i've done with a few people and then it's on them to like really get active and jump into channels i you know my suggestion always is jump into channels that are interesting to you because you're gonna just naturally be more active because you're gonna have things to say so find the channels that are interesting find the people that are interesting dive in and i've seen people who you know been here only just a few days racking up the follows because they're being their authentic self they're sharing their art they're you know doing things that are interesting so they're they're not having a problem at all if you're just you know trying to do this like twitter it's not gonna work it's just not gonna work you're just like blasting and just treating it like social media and not treating it like social network i think that's where the disconnect comes in treat it like a social network connect
yeah well i think we're all on this social network not social media train and like it's a mantra i'm like it is almost like i repeat it almost as if it's like a seance and it's like a cult i'm like it's social network not social media
yeah i just said that i was on a space yesterday on twitter with timepieces and we just started a timepieces channel but it's not i haven't really publicized it yet and i was saying that exact thing i'm like don't treat it it's different it's different don't treat it the same you're not blasting out you don't need a 1000000 followers you need you know i've just a core like of people that you really like and that's going to be good a much better experience so hopefully hopefully those we we want to see active follow follow our advice is all i can hope for a few other things we've got
this was really interesting so i wanted to share you did mention the direct cast are now searchable by name and then you had posted why are you so obsessed with parcaster 45 minutes with the merkel team the request i would love search functionality for dcs ideally on mobile and then you see the whole discussion and then 45 minutes later it's there so things like that happen a lot and i don't think people realize that and where it also happens is with things like zuora and base too there's like this definite vibe of of be responsive listen to what your you know your user base is asking for and then responding quickly and i'm always so impressed by that as well so i loved that post from you i was like oh my god that's cool

but you can't do it for group chats no so i can't tell you how many i made like 5 new groups at chats with the same people because like it doesn't work like imessage where if you just like put in the people it'll restart the group it just like truly starts a new group
