and we are live so let me transition this good morning gm farcaster adrienne is back with me i'm so excited it was great to have chris here but i love having my my friend adrienne here and she is traveling we've both been crossing paths across the us so this time is her turn but she made some time to do this anyway but that is why we're at a little different time today because 5:30 am est seemed a bit much to ask from you how are you doing today adrienne how are things going
good gm gm in las las vegas so which is kind of the place of no time
true that's very true
so i i guess it's 8:30 pacific and i'm here for a conference so i was kinda doing the conferencing yesterday and you know i'm here for 3 days which is typically like 3 days too many
right
no 2 days too many
2 days
too many yeah 2 days too many so i had a great day yesterday and
i'm
glad to be here this morning
i'm sure you'll have a great day today but i felt that same way like i got to the last evening of my thing and i'm like i wanna go home and we still had to get up we had still had a half a day the next day and i'm like i'm so done i've hit my wall it's too much information overload all those things fun fact i lived in las vegas for 2 years my my year year i was from 1 ages 1 to 3 and my brother was born there because my dad was stationed at nellis air force base so oh
wow yeah i almost got a tour so i almost got a tour of that air force base because the con the conference on that there's a lot of government people here and and we have connections and we were setting up this tour and then the government shutdown was almost gonna happen and last week when they were organizing it and then they canceled it
oh that's a bummer but that i've never even toured it as an adult so i've never been there you know since i was i've been to vegas a few times and it's really weird every time i fly in it feels and it doesn't make any sense but it feels a little like coming home it's a very weird feeling and i never quite because i you know how do i even remember that but there's something in my subconscious that's kind of strange but let's move into like what's happening on farcaster oh go ahead i have
i i have my list of what's happening on farcaster which is a little short because i feel like i haven't been online so much this week but you just said something that made me think of yeah something that i believe someone said on farcaster and tell me if you remember who it was but someone was talking about their nomad life oh and they said nomad life is great like a digital nomad is great but i don't sometimes like i feel homesick for a home i don't have like or or or you're missing that sense of like i have a home
yeah
and your thought of like oh well i was born somewhere even if you don't have memories of it because you were little and and what that sense is so that's just
not even places that have always felt more like home than even the place i spent most of my life growing up and it's very strange las vegas is one of those and key west is another and i did move there for and lived there for a few years but as soon as i went there the very first time i'm like oh had it had i never been there before it felt like home it was very strange and then i moved to florida not long after that so it was it's one of those things i think you find you know where you're where you're connected in the world geographically and virtually so you know i think this
virtually like
all of that applies to this too you know you find your you find your people and it feels like home so i think that's why farcaster feels very comfortable it's like i found my people and it feels like home so
a little
bit of a love fester a little love fester alright so what is jumping out at you today from podcasting
okay so i'll start with the the more boring one or the you know the the less me me cultural one but there was announcement dan said that he's raising the price of hubs from $5 to $7 in advance of permissionless sign ups
and my question about hub about hub storage is
when you run out because i'm already over right if i look at like the because
i are you really oh
yeah because i you know i like and reply i mean we had this conversation i think a few weeks ago it's like when people see that you have to pay pay for likes then you're not going to anymore so my line was like no i'm gonna be i'm gonna be more whorish with my likes like i don't just don't just like everything spread them everywhere so i could buy more storage but i guess so the the question that i think i know the answer but if you run out of storage do you just start truncating your history like does your history get deleted as opposed to not being able to cast or you know like i get really annoyed at gmail who tells me i'm running out of storage and i won't be able to send email or something and yeah
that would be great
then i have to do work to clean out my inbox so i don't think that's happening with i don't think something i think it's just we'll start deleting some of your history
i think i would assume it just prune from you know oldest to newest is my guess but that is an excellent question and i think i will there was a post that he had related to that that said ask any questions about you know hubs or whatever you know and i did ask
oh what's confusing too right
what's confusing that's what it was thank you it was like any no dumb questions and i think that's a great question for that post so i'll pop that on there for you yep because i'm curious to exactly how that's all gonna work and i had asked about you know do i need a hub like do i need my own hub like why would i need and i just i don't think i didn't like i don't think i do but you know i wanted to kinda ask him and he was like no do you need a server for your email and i'm like oh i don't know like and that was kind of my instinct it's like if i'm not building an actual business or you know an app or something on farcaster i probably don't need a hub and that was the answer so i was like i don't need my own hub i think 2 slots of storage is probably gonna be plenty for me but we'll see you know who knows i might wanna you know
i don't know if you wanna start if you wanna get up in that rankings on top 30 active characters then you're gonna have to buy some more storage so
this is true and that was one of my my things i was gonna talk about today was i slipped i slipped a little bit in the rankings i slipped 1 first of all really important to note that i usually don't care about these things whatsoever i don't really like focus on specifically on engagement and things like that but as soon as i got into that top 30 and i was number 23 and i'm like well now i wanna stay there and i dropped 1 and now i'm 40 who's been super active all of a sudden announced he's like at number 7 or something now and i'm like i blame him he's the one he's the one who bumped me one so it's really kinda funny but it's funny how competitive you can can you come like so quickly of like now i wanna be up there and it's it's really interesting but i'm also making sure like my engagement for me is more important for it to be authentic and ted had a post about that about that i thought was really really cool about i like farcast her and farcaster generally compared to the equivalent corners on because the women casting here feel authentic rather than performative and i thought that was a really important point that i have noticed as well and feel like that is part of why
like why i stick around really because it started to become such a you know it's signal not noise it's i don't feel like i you know trying to impress anybody or you know and and not that i normally do anyways but it feels different it just feels different and i i think i you know i i think that was a a great point but it's also like but i still was like oh i love that i was in the most active users like that's never been you know i i don't have millions of followers on anything you know so it's like i've never been at the top of anything so it's kinda fun just a fun time
did you print did you print it out
oh i might have to
print it out put it on the wall
save it
i didn't save it just grab the screenshot
yep i may have to
grab that screenshot just hang on to it forever just in case because i i know i'm gonna be you know it's it's not my chances are i i you know i'm not for long on that very top list just because i get busy and things like that and more people are gonna come on it's gonna get permissionless we're gonna have a whole different vibe and we'll see what happens but it's gonna be interesting it's gonna be really interesting i also had asked dan for a couple extra invites for some colleagues so i work in the school of entrepreneurship and we spent a lot of time talking about things while we were away and there were a couple of them like you guys would really like it and they're not you know one is a little knowledgeable about crypto really into ai the other 2 really have no connection to crypto at all but i don't think it matters like i think they'll find a lot of there's so many start up founders that are on farcaster that to me it's like this is a place where we could be doing research we could be you know really tapping into some of these founders and what they're doing and thinking about competencies and thinking about skill sets and what do you need and then using that data to be able to talk to our students about entrepreneurial mindset and things like that so i feel like it's you know a great little incubator to to study so i'm hoping that they jump on but also i'm a little nervous right this is my whole other world that they don't really know about it's really i don't know how that's gonna change things so that's gonna be kinda interesting
i gave an invite i gave an invite last night to someone i met at the conference and it's it's someone i met and there's there's not a lot of crypto natives here but it's someone i met who had been running bitcoin who's doing bitcoin mining 10 years ago or
oh cool
and yeah and his brother's a web 3 developer who is working on a really interesting product too that i just heard about
and it's reminding me i should go tell jack about it because there's some crossover but
that is really cool
i was telling him about farcaster and i just said let me just warn you you know like you're gonna get a different me on farcaster than you do on twitter than you do on linkedin and
yeah
i said so don't you judge me
don't judge me but i think it's a it's and i don't know you know how you are i don't really know how you are in those other platforms but i feel like it's a more authentic me definitely like i'm not you know i'm just it's much more me but it's also a lot of my web 3 world that they probably aren't aware of so it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting but that's that's funny that's cool that you gave an invite to somebody that would probably be a great you know and i also think about like who could contribute here who would contribute to this conversation that we're having who can add value and that's who i wanna invite because i think it's there is something special about that invited by line and i look at that sometimes to see like well who invited this person like if i see somebody followed me that's one of the first things i look at because i'm curious like how did you get here what if i don't know them at all i'm like how did you get here who who brought you here
but you can put you can write in whoever you want in that box so it's not actually like a algorithmic you can trust this source
oh i did not know that because i think mine auto populated or something i don't remember it was so long ago
it did oh interesting when i joined it was auto populated and at some point i saw they made a change where you could type in the name of who invited you
okay that's interesting because i always yeah i love that let side noun was the one who invited me to farfetch because he was also the way i got into nouns so it was just this nice little connected thread that i love mhmm
and when i gave the invite last night i said and you better not spam because this is my reputation allowed it but you better be a good fit
better be safe it's gonna be the conversation i have to you gotta behave put my rep on the line for you people it's funny
but to your point though of like you know a lot of us were came like the earlier forecasters were into crypto and that was kind of similar but dan wrote something on twitter that really resonated with me and he was talking about the people on forecaster and it was described as people building things
yes i saw that
who are also interested in ethereum
exactly
and i kind of like like the emphasis of builder first right so you kind of it's and and you're starting to see that more and more of people who like aren't you're you may not be building a crypto but there's something different here and it's like that built just yeah
that's why it feels like it feels like a little bit of an incubator it feels like a little place where you know a little you know we work you know where everyone's but everyone's there building something and they're talking to each other about what they're building and they're sharing their things and they're asking for feedback which i see a lot which i think is really special and they're finding co founders they're finding people to work for their companies they're you know connecting or they're starting with ideas and saying who wants to work on this with me and i thought it was special it's really a kind of a special special kind of thing so that's why i think it'd be so interesting for entrepreneurship educators to see that environment and see you know what can we learn from this and and how can we you know bring some of that to our classrooms which is always always something i'm thinking about all the time you know what what can i bring to the classroom from this experience so that's really cool so yeah so the storage is going up soon to it's sorry you only have until october 7th i believe to use invites if you have them so get on it you have not much more time and then i think it's next week are we on permissions oops i think i lost you adrienne maybe your connection may have cut out there i don't i lost your video feed well that's good we had one day with no technical difficulties so it's perfect
still going ira
right now not your fault
i know this one's about
my fault this is bandwidth issues at the hotel
yeah yeah no worries i can still hear you it's so funny but i can't i can't see but that's so funny it's like i i kinda feel like we need that sign you know yeah yeah those signs they have in factories that are like one day without it's like one day without the issue nice it's perfect it's just perfect you're fine i can i can hear you and this is more important so oh there you are she's back i'm telling you i am doing a highlight reel from our 1st month and i'm gonna be sharing it with those who have minted our our stream so far so it'll be it'll be interesting it'll be all the you may call it a blooper reel i call it a highlight reel it'll be fun i may have lost her completely are you still there now i can't hear her okay so let me until we get her back oh i hear her now there she is
hello
hello i hear you okay what other things were jumping out at you on farcaster these past few days and we'll just talk and you know it'll be like we're on twitter spaces no big deal
it's
maybe
i got i got
you're distracted i
guess i'm distracted
it's hard
what are we talking about
we were talking about builders we were talking about the the builder ecosystem is there anything else that jumped out at you oh i know what i wanted to talk to you about i know exactly what i wanted to talk to you about what sher s h e r at s h e r posted curious who the absolute youngest and oldest warp cast users with an active badge are and
posted i'm sure i'm the top 10% oldest but i know a few who've got me on that side as well and my post back to him was not even close
you're not even close to the top 10% dude and then i looked at the active users that chart again and i'm like i'm pretty sure i've got this chart covered pretty sure it's me and and shur had posted back he's like well i did a little digging he's like i won't talk to you but yeah you might be right i'm like yeah i'm pretty sure yeah
there is but i i've chatted with someone who i wanna say is in their sixties
there's
oh there's a couple
that are
on there that decade i don't know about seventies
i don't know i don't know so that actually one of my colleagues when he gets on there that's maybe that's the reason i'm bringing him on he's older
good
i just hi i need somebody to move me down in the rankings of top oldest people on broadcaster so i'm now only inviting people who are older than me
it's a very good negotiating and tactic and price anchoring just
if you if you want an invite you must be older than me i will not invite you otherwise if you're younger i'm sorry you're gonna ruin my average i don't wanna move up in that rank that's a chart i don't wanna be at the top of but i am so it is what it is but i'm curious about the youngest too that i thought was interesting somebody mentioned there's somebody in their teens who who posts a lot and is pretty active it is kinda interesting because you don't really know ages unless people you know talk you know we often talk about generational but we don't necessarily talk specifically about age but it's yeah i am i am definitely got the fifties covered i'll just leave it at that and yeah i i'm so you're gonna have to you're gonna have to be born before 1970 to to have a conversation with me from now on that's it
but you allow me i can we can still talk i was i was born in 70
anyone new i don't feel wanna move myself down in the
ranking so what did you how do you you know does what are your thoughts on like in terms of like who you interact with do you think age is really a restriction here or like do you feel you know i i don't no i think it's mindset i think it's more mindset and i find that you know very much in that in that space and i think we do have you do see a lot more millennials elderly millennials there's definitely the the gen x crowd and roughing you know but you know i think in there's there's quite a few gen zs and i think that's that's interesting one other thing i wanna mention and we're of course we got 1 minute left i don't have you watched love on leverage yet
and do you know what i'm no and we should do a whole show
that has to be a whole show i because it and i don't wanna talk about it with you until you've watched it because i think that great i'm getting pop ups i i want you to because i want you to i wanna have a conversation after you've seen it i only watched a little bit of the first one so i'm gonna make a conscious effort to watch hopefully tonight tomorrow or soon and like maybe next week we can like dive in and see talk about that experiment but i think there's something really interesting there they're doing some bedding and it's it's it's interesting you know it's it's really interesting so i'd love to get your take on that
and then i started thinking
about like golden love on leverage like golden bachelor like let's go and just find me all the older men
i don't know what golden bachelor is but i think i just figured it out
i can you can figure it out he's 73 it's golden bachelor
did they make that a show
yes it's a new show we just watched it's the bachelor but they're old
and even love on leverage i have a like a vague idea of even what that is so i have to just be tapping out
the onions it's a dating show it's a it's a on dating show right here when i'm lonely so yeah check that out it's but we'll we'll talk about it more after you've had a chance to experience it and then we'll we'll dive into that one we are out of time i do wanna mention one thing i dropped a suggestion to dwr about i would love a way to indicate when somebody's live on one of these media platforms and that would be amazing so
that would be that's a great call i saw you did that
condemned silence i can't do that but i think it's a good idea it could be a lot of fun anything you're looking forward to before we wrap we are over time
no i'm another day at a dev devops enterprise summit conference oh one thing i'll say or should we just stick to time and i'll say
it another time say it no say it
so you know the challenge we have when i say we it's people who want broadcaster to succeed because it's not just i'm not just a a participant i kind of like we wanna make this world real it's like and dan's been talking about how to get more content right it's about content getting people to create content build content and i was just noticing kind of like why am i posting on twitter versus farcaster and it's like i tend to post more on farcaster more on farcaster at this conference yesterday and i had a conversation with phil cocksfield last week saying like i'll post i'll post my observe like things i'm learning at the conference on farcaster and i found myself going to twitter first and it was the first time because that's where my devops community is and that's where i know i don't have to give context for what i'm tweeting about because they it's known
mhmm
and then in the afternoon there was someone on stage who i felt like oh this could be more for the farcaster community and it's like i'm hesitant if you put too much things that are completely out of context who am i doing i don't know it's just interesting observation
yeah that is an interesting observation and thinking about your audience like yeah
mhmm
i do that sometimes too where there's things that i don't post on farcaster i post it on twitter and it's the audience and some things i post in both places but maybe slightly different yep you know different tags different you know direction and yeah that's interesting so i'll have to i'll have to keep observing that and see where we see where we go for sure
what are you looking forward to today
i have so many things to catch caught up on from traveling so that's what i'm gonna be focusing on and looking forward to chatting with you again on friday and great we'll be back on friday morning 8:30 est and that is it for us we ran a little over but then again we didn't have adrian's face for a couple of minutes there so we'll call it that but bye everybody have a lovely day and gm
