welcome everybody to rome benvenuti
buongiorno builders this is builders day it's a tradition for farcon to have two different days one dedicated more to building cool stuff on the on the protocol of the app and and tomorrow as as always is gonna be more about thoughts by the community demos there's gonna be rich as well talking about the state of the protocol but let's go over what we are going to do today so i i'd be like very brief and then leave the stage to some very interesting speakers i'll i'll let some longer opening talks tomorrow
everyone here is a builder so maybe one year ago builders day was only for people that were able to code something and so it was kind of like limited and less less space and and and curated for that type of audience but today thanks to ai everyone can build something so if you're here and you don't know how to code you're you're an artist you're a creator you're a developer like whoever you are you are a builder you can create something without needing to know how to code how to use our programming language or whatever and i think it's super cool because sparkcaster gives us all lego blocks that we can play with and and thanks to ai we can all use this well so anyone can build an idea in in few hours and with ai on our side
hopefully that will give you some inspiration for the the things that you guys are building later today just a tiny bit of background me i've been working on decentralized social for a long time i've been on farcaster for a long time and now i'm lucky enough to get paid by nayanar to work on farcaster but you know at work i really don't do much anymore claude does all my work so i'm sure it's relatable so when i went to do this presentation i was just like claude you know based on everything you know about me make the slides for me so i hope you feel right at home when you see this there there you go that's the plan this is the outline for what i wanted to talk about there's some new things that i think are possible now in the world of online social media that were not possible even just a few years ago that i personally think are very cool and i think farcaster is the best place to explore these things to play around with them to see if something new can be made and i wanna leave you at the end with some prompts to think about for how you might be doing those sorts of things so when i think about like what is the opportunity in social media i think about what's missing like what feels like it should exist obviously to me at least that doesn't exist yet and to me that's primarily there's no ai native thing like thing that you can post things you can post are like casts twitter lets you post tweets and twitter was made possible by everybody having a cell phone and being able to text people and so that's what twitter kind of looks like today and instagram like when i say what's the social network where you post pictures it's like instagram or snapchat right and those are uniquely possible because everybody had a cell phone with a camera you could just take pictures and post them and if i tell you what's the social media for short form content it's like oh tiktok and maybe instagram reels and there's no thing like that for this ai world that we live in there's no social network that's like this is where ai content goes sora maybe was a stab at that that's kind of like using technology to do the old thing there's no new thing that is that that feels obviously missing to me that feels like the kind of thing thing that will exist at some point there will be the social network where ai stuff gets posted that's actually good so there's that that thing what is that thing we don't really know yet i have some ideas we've like playing around with these ideas at xenaar but the other thing that's missing is there's no ai native social network there was mopbook i think mopbook does account it was it was cool for what it was but i don't know any person who's like i open mopbook every day and read the stuff that's over there so when i say a native social network i mean where people and ai stuff are like hand in hand hanging out together that feels again like a thing that should exist that doesn't exist yet because nobody's explored nobody's figured out what it might look like and the third thing that i think is missing in social this is a bit more speculative philosophical there's no pro social social network right there's no company that bills itself as like come here and you'll become the best version of yourself twitter's obviously not that it doesn't maybe strava is like the closest but strava is like very niche focused so we have an opportunity to make these things happen at farcaster and i think that farcaster is like uniquely good at some of these things this is how i think it could potentially fill the gap farcaster has been has the opportunity to play around with these things there have been agents on farcaster that are actually really cool like ethernet like some of the other bots that i've seen people build they're it's hard to build those things on twitter and you can easily build them on farcaster mini apps interactive casts snaps
are
like a version of interactive cast but it could be something different like these sorts of things have never existed before and they're uniquely possible now with ai they're possible for anyone no one's made interactive social experiences at scale before if you wanted to do that you had to either know how to code or you had to do it in person and the forecasted protocol uniquely makes these things possible because you can write code that talks directly to the protocol and you don't have to worry about the api is gonna change or like i don't understand how these things work or i honestly wouldn't even know where to start with this with something like instagram like how would i make an instagram ai thing i don't really know and even crypto is particularly good at this like agents prefer using wallets x four two versus like oh getting a credit card or or paying for something like these things are the older way of doing social stuff so is your thinking about your happiness what can i build maybe it's something along these lines i think yeah the the pro social part is more to be philosophical but i think it's important where you can program your own social network your own social network your own experience of the information that you're getting from the internet you can program it in a way that you would like you don't have to have an algorithm decided by someone else that feeds your content you can do it yourself and maybe the last thing that i think farcaster has that's special that again doesn't exist in other social networks is you all i don't i don't know anyone who goes to like twitter conferences i don't know anyone who goes to tiktok conferences i'm sure they exist but i don't know much about that i think that the culture of farcaster is uniquely good for playing around with stuff like this people are very open to trying new things people understand that the things you try might not work out and if you're honestly doing something cool people will support you if you compare it to other social networks even ones similar to podcast like blue sky it doesn't quite have this culture blue sky is kind of cursed with people who are don't don't like ai and crypto unfortunately and i think those things are a big opportunity whereas at farcaster it's like cool you can try that you know i don't think we're a 100% all in on it i think people can have very different opinions about what's good what's not good that's great so i think you all in this room have a unique opportunity to do this stuff it's not there was a cast yesterday from light that's something like if you have an idea for how things could be better just do us all a favor and and implement it like give it a shot go for it so that's what i want for you all and some prompts to give you i know this is it looks like claude code i don't mean the kind of prompts you'd give claude i mean the kind of prompts i would like to give you to think about what sort of thing to try this is stuff that works for me when i'm interested when i'm like thinking about how to play around with these things the first prompt i would give is what is something that is unique to you in particular that you come up often people say things like be creative it's hard to just be creative but you can think about it what's special about me what do i like what unique perspective do i have what do i wanna show the world that only i could do it doesn't have to be some major thing it can be small and simple it could be like i like you know movies from the eighties so i wanna showcase that i wanna show people why i like that it helps make something that is unique forkast it kinda has this problem right to to succeed we have to build something that's unique that doesn't exist anywhere else and i think any technology has this another problem i wanted to give you is who are you building for i know it's fashionable to say alright i've built i've been building for myself like i just making this thing that i like and i don't really i don't really care if anyone else uses it but i think that that's it's a little bit of cope i think that anytime you're putting something out into the world you want other people to see it and so you're also building for that i can tell you for me personally i love when my friends use stuff i made or just people i know in person like that gets me really pumped up anytime i can cast like oh hey i built this thing and i see people i know using it that's what i really like and when i go for spans of time where i don't do that i'm like working on internal stuff or there's like some books or whatever and i don't have much to talk about i don't feel as energetic so so yeah who who are you making the thing that you're making today who is that for and think about how they'll feel about it and finally what if it was more fun you know what if you could just inject a little bit of flavor a little bit of whimsy into the thing you're making what if you could make it 10 times as much fun i think having fun is somehow underrated when people talk about thank you yeah i don't i don't know what it is there's there's something about like grinding or like that that looks like fashionable but when you're having fun it's easier you feel better and the stuff you make is better it's harder so that's
well i guess i'm out of token so i guess my talk's done i have more things to tell you but let me let me try and wrap that up for y'all this is why i'm excited about forecasting i think that new social experiences are like now possible because of technology in particular things like interactive content things like humans and ai's working together things like a social network that helps you be your best self this is why i was pumped to make the nader bot this is why i'm pumped to make snaps or some of the other things that we're playing around with i don't know that those are the right answers that's just some of the things that i think might work but i think that you all have great ideas too and i'm looking forward to seeing what you do with forecasters building blocks that are available and i hope it's fun how about you i find building
