1. We're moving away from initial follows to a purely algorithmic feed. 2. We set up the initial follow system last summer because the single biggest reason for churn was people didn't follow enough people and didn't have enough content (and we didn't have a good algo feed yet). 3. I told people to cast in channels. A lot of people resisted / told me it was dumb. Other users took the time to do that. 4. We mapped onboarding interests (Ethereum, startups, memes, etc.) to channels and the users who were consistently posting in channels last summer / early fall. 5. The list had 200+ people on it, but 100 users got a power law of the initial follows. We actually randomized the number of follows between 60-70. 6. The list was proof of work -- at the time we set it up -- for the users that were here early and consistently posting. 7. There were some early users who -- for whatever reason -- did not cast a lot last summer and didn't do it in channels -- they missed out on initial follows as a result.

Problems that FC solves: 1. For Twitterers who have lost distribution since the grok slop feed was introduced, FC is a microblogging platform where your reach is (more) guaranteed. Akin to Substack for microbloggers. 2. For Creators who want to build an audience, FC is a new and growing network that they can be early to. Akin to early TikTok or any new network. 3. For people looking for community online, Farcaster is a place to make URL-> IRL friends. Akin to Meetup, Bumble BFF. 4. For devs who want a free playground populated by people. Akin to Twitter, Dorseyβs vision. Channels to target (hot takes, requires resrarch): 1. Laying out the talking points clearly so secondary evangelists can get internet points for running the playbook in competing venues (Twitter, Truth, Reddit, Threads). Debates increase awareness. 2. YouTube social media marketing strategy scene. Present FC as a opportunity for $$$ at the intersection of Crypto and Social. 3. Indie devs. FC is a free social API. Vercel set.

If you wanna cast as yourself like @baubergo- did, you need to sign-in with neynar on frmz.lol so the system can safely store your signer thru Neynar's backend π
5 months ago, we had recorded fewer than 40 episodes, had 37 subscribers, less than 800 listens across podcast platforms, and less than 300 mints. As of today, we've live streamed 124 episodes (plus a bunch of bonus ones not counted), have over 300 subscribers, 11k listens across podcast platforms, and over 5k mints.
