i'm not running my own node, just pulling from the public hypersnap node (haatz.quilibrium.com), but this is presumably @farcaster network daily activity since the @ns takeover announcement seems to be steady, and if you're feeling generous, incrementally increasing, across the board what do we think? genuine activity including that of new FIDs despite the fud? or is it slop peddlers, coordinated bulk activity and bots in hopes of engagement rewards?

Small outage with mini-app transactions are fixed. The fix is going out over OTA now. To fix the issue if you haven't received the OTA update fully quit Farcaster (swipe it out of recents), reopen, and leave it open a few seconds so the update can download. Repeat once or twice if the first reopen is still on the old bundle. Settings will still show the same store version; that number does not change when an OTA lands but the date does. Some mini-apps send without a chainId. After a recent wallet hardening change those previews couldn’t tell which network to use, so the transaction failed instead of confirming. This is why it's imperative to include a chainId when possible as a mini-app developer. If you own a mini-app, make absolutely sure to include chainId on eth_sendTransaction so the network is explicit when possible.

Yes. So many mixed emotions. Head and heart still not yet in sync. Despite what my initial curated exposition made it seem (thank you everyone for the warm response to the thread, by the way!!) – I too found myself starting to lash out yesterday and ended up writing and retracting several emotionally charged posts. @balajis.eth himself graciously reached out to me this morning to clarify and intervene. I don’t think he (or I) actually understood quite what I was trying to get across just then, so I am writing it here now. The reality is, the @farcaster app was a safe digital second home for a lot of people, and the blindside of the transition is causing many people through a few stages of shock and grief. I think the best response is to listen, avoid shifting blame, and save theory and reasoning for later. Kindness and empathy all around will go a long way right now.

Some quick(ish) thoughts on people asking how I can support crops and be excited about the changes to Farcaster Farcaster (the app) has always had moderation and a social contract. @dwr talked about moderation from the beginning. Having rules for an app doesn’t inherently conflict with free speech or censorship resistance We don’t allow shitposting on ethresearch. It’s a space for Ethereum research, and moderation helps keep it useful. That’s reasonable. If the mods started banning research about MEV because they personally didn’t think MEV was a problem, that would be a different story. They’d be using their position to suppress ideas within the discussion the forum is supposed to support I’m directionally for apps experimenting with rules and algorithms that make conversations more productive. We already have algorithms deciding what gets attention, based on what keeps us scrolling. I want people trying other approaches 1/3

Everyone says, "just build your own client." Almost nobody does, because setup is the hard part. So I did the setup part. Selfcaster is an open-source Farcaster starter client you deploy to your own Vercel in about ten minutes. Chronological, no algorithm, everything behind your own password. to understand the future of fc, take a look at https://farcaster.xyz/~/code. its quite good if you take 5 min to write down how you'd want farcaster discourse to feel, i expect the Code hits at least 80% of that. and today its cheap to enforce with AI. tbh im excited to see a social network oriented explicitly around civil norms and win-win interactions. sure, there will be hiccups at first. but im willing to bet the vibes around here are better 5 months from now than they were 5 months ago

$2048 FOR FARCASTER CLIENTS Anyone can build a Farcaster client and run a read node to get data from the protocol. There are developer tutorials on the web[1,2,3,4], but your mission in this prize, should you choose to accept it, is to improve them by collecting all relevant info and making it incredibly easy. Specifically, we want you to get it down to three commands, as described in your quickstart and then detailed in your tutorial: (0) Provision necessary compute via script
(1) Set up a Snapchain read node
(2) Create a client that reads from that node The read node should run on its own, with no API keys from anyone. You just furnish the compute. Note that a read node syncs the network but does not accept writes, so your client should read from your own node and submit casts to a validator endpoint; the tutorial should explain how that works. The client should be able to import an existing seed phrase for an account that already has storage, use that seed phrase to issue the client its own app key (one small Optimism transaction), and then post with that key: read the feed, post casts, follow and react, and include/exclude casts from any other client. In addition to the quickstart at the top of the page, the tutorial should be mobile- and desktop-friendly, and should explain key protocol concepts as it goes (e.g. FIDs, custody addresses, app keys, Snapchain messages, read nodes vs validators, storage rent). Anything that someone running a client and read node would need to know. You can use AI, but your output must *not* be AI slop, as ultimately determined in our sole discretion. To qualify for a prize, you need to have at least one other human user successfully go through your tutorial and create a read node and client. They then need to post on Farcaster publicly vouching for the quality of your work. You can go the extra mile of course, like adding Chinese translation, adding a 59s vertical video, and so on. But getting more humans to vouch for your tutorial will be the most powerful signal. To enter, submit a reply to this post with three URLs: (1) your microsite with the quickstart + tutorial, (2) the associated GitHub repository with all MIT-licensed open source code, and (3) the link to your voucher's public endorsement on Farcaster. Prize: $2,048 first place, $512 second place, $128 each for honorable mentions, subject to whether there are enough good submissions. Paid in USDC to your public Farcaster wallet address by default. Deadline: your reply with three URLs must be submitted within seven days exactly from this post's timestamp. That’s it! THE FARCASTER PRIZE With 10,000+ votes counted, we're at 94.4% support for the new Network School Farcaster. Dylan put together a great visualization of this first decentralized digital democratic election. In his post below, you can see the provable, onchain, cryptographically verifiable votes streaming in for the new social smart contract. As i get older, im also constantly reminding myself to save my energy. I cant change anything about this acquisition. They've set the rules and now they are enforcing them. I can only see what happens next. Ive invested a lot of time here. As was foretold by the prophecy...

I’ve been casting for years about how I thought Farcaster had many of the prerequisites one would expect to see in an emergent network state type community. Some of those casts are so old that when you click on one of them (see quoted casts in the quoted cast below), it fails to load. While the founding team never expressed interest in pivoting towards this direction (for good reason, they had an admirable and ambitious goal of their own), it is now happening, and I think that’s exciting. One near-term positive possibility for Farcaster would be getting back to where this place was at its all-time highs in terms of quality people participating in the network. The app will be different, but the most likely people to become quality DAUs here in the next few months are probably people who have been quality DAUs here before, like myself. It is easier to get someone to redownload an app or restart a habit of being active on one than to get someone who has ignored Farcaster for 5 years to join now. (cont.)
