the breaking news was last week but if we have breaking news that that little that little cry on will change this from bradq twenty nine seconds of farcaster what did you miss this weekend a redo because of a helpful correction here's a forward looking curation i'm not even gonna talk about the redo if you only read one this from f c o g and network state resident darrylyeo and we're gonna talk more about that and t l d r back and jake adrienne's take was expanded on g m farcaster the idea of mourning what f c didn't become and being open to new experiments and we have a few of those that we're gonna talk about in a little bit balajis teased the future with a retro reward we'll talk more about that in a moment and a bounty for $28.48 for further client work good to see the appeals process went smoothly for two who pursued we'll talk about the appeals process and a little bit more on that and then need a laugh farfelt episode two we'll also talk about that at the end because yes we all need a laugh this from quazia there have been some little bumps as this transition happens which happens pretty much every time we have a transition or a big ship or something changes we've been seeing this since the beginning of time that this kind of stuff happens so this from quazia small outage with mini app transactions are fixed the fix is going out over ota now to fix the issue if you haven't received the ota update fully quit farcaster swipe it out of recents reopen and leave it open a few seconds so the update can download repeat once or twice if the first reopen is still on the old bundle settings will will still show the same store version that number does not change when an ota lands but the date does some mini apps send without a chain id so this is important if you have a mini app after a recent wallet hardening change those previews couldn't tell which network to use so the transaction failed instead of confirming this is why it's imperative to include a chain id when possible as a mini app developer if you own a mini app make absolutely sure to include chain id on eth underscore send transaction so the network is explicit when possible so if you make mini apps be aware i did have a problem minting something from chriscocreated this morning exited out came back in was able to mint so

that's so funny by the way the 10/24 i was totally thrown off by and i was like i need to and then you know it was explained to me and i should have got it from 2048 but i didn't so the the devs the devs will understand anyway speaking of 2048 we have a new bounty of sorts for a client from balaji this is verb twenty forty eight for farcaster clients anyone can build a farcaster client and run a read node to get it to get data from the protocol there are developer tutorials on the web one two three four but i like how he puts footnotes in he's such an his his academic ness is showing but your mission is mission in this prize should you choose to accept it is to improve them by collecting all relevant info and making it incredibly easy specifically we want you to get it down to three commands as described in your quick start and then detailed in your tutorial provision net zero provision necessary compute via script one set up a snap chain read node two create a client that reads from that node the read node should run on its own with no api keys from anyone you just furnish the compute note that a read node syncs the network but does not accept rights so your client should read from your own node and submit cast to a validator endpoint the tutorial should explain how this works the client should be able to import an existing seed phrase for an account that already has storage use that seed phrase to issue the client its own a app key one small optimism transaction and then post with that key read the feed post cast follow and react and include exclude cast from any other client in addition to the quick start at the top of the page the tutorial should be mobile and desktop friendly and should explain key protocol concepts as it goes e g fids custody addresses app keys snap chain messages read nodes and validator storage rent anything that somebody someone running a client and read node would need to know you can use ai but your output must not be ai slop that is ultimately determined in our sole discretion to qualify for a prize you need to have at least one other human user successfully go through your tutorial and create a read node and client they then need to post on farcaster publicly vouching for the quality of your work you can go the extra mile of course like adding chinese translation adding fifty nine second vertical video and so on but getting more humans to vouch for your tutorial will be the most useful most powerful signal to enter submit a reply to this post with the with three urls one your microsite with the quick start and tutorial two the associated github repository with all mit licensed open source code and three the link to your voucher's public endorsement on farcaster prize 2,048 first prize five twelve second prize $1.28 each for honorable mentions subject to whether there are enough good submissions paid in usdc to your public farcaster wallet he learned address by default he was informed didn't have to use the dns deadline your reply with three urls must be submitted within seven days exactly from the post time stamp that's it go learn farcaster protocol yourself help others learn how to bootstrap their own clients or encrypt for doing it and increase practical freedom of association and then the references are in the replies a little bit more detail

this from kazani my farcaster account got restricted this week read only no posting no replying couldn't even delete i'm back now here's what happened and what i got wrong a thread so he posted the account restricted information so this might be useful for those who haven't seen this side of it because their accounts weren't restricted there was about i it's less than 300 i think it's 268 accounts or so that were moderated out is the term that they're using more common term being thrown about is banned so useful and then there were i think 80 and i'm gonna get these numbers probably wrong i'm doing this off the top of my head i think 86 or so appeals and 67% of those appeals were they were reinstated so there you go so this was from kazani one of the ones who appealed one old cast of mine compared indians to stray dogs i was angry about civic sense but that's contempt for a whole nationality and the new rules call that a felony fair flag i deleted it the other one was me pasting someone's sarcastic post with no quote marks it read as my own words and the auto translation flipped its meaning lesson quote cast it or use quote marks i read the full network code it's literally ai pumps hate equals contempt for nationalities people criticizing a government is fine undisclosed ai posting is a felony saying your ai assisted clears it so my bio now says so because most of some of his posts are him some of them are ai assisted so i think that was another issue my take publish rules beat silent bands you can read them and i did but an ai will misread quoted sarcasm sometimes so a working appeal matters as much as the model mine got me back in about a day and that's what made this fair to me the part that stung most the restriction ended my eight hundred and forty five day streak in india the india channel over two years of showing up every day broken by one read only switch so and then you had some questions about ai writing so i thought that was interesting i think it gave a little bit of insight into that process that we really there's a lot i'd love to see made a little bit more public that i think would be helpful to those of us who are just trying to better understand how decisions were made so hopefully we'll get more insight into that this from darrylyeo my thoughts on the ns and farcaster merger as a longtime farcaster user crypto builder hackathon and conference pop up city hopper most recently a resident of network school this is fairly detailed but i'm gonna read just some of it and then the rest you can read on your own i'd highly recommend you do that top of mind voice first exit an opportunity for another client are as important as ever many layers to this in several directions at once balajis spent his career observing breakdowns in the american sociopolitical order took taking matters into his own hands and created the next best alternative international tech community network school against all odds put his bid to be the next steward kinda goes through what happened and then i kinda wanted to highlight he kinda goes into some insight into balaji himself based on his experiences that you can read he adds some different links to things that might be helpful in terms of if you haven't read the network state if you haven't seen some of balajis you know different talks he's given might be helpful there's a lot of good links in this thread and then i just wanna highlight this two things worth calling out because i already see friends eager to misrepresent things one the ability to opt in fork or exit at any time is literally the entire premise of the network state movement you join the place or ecosystem because you like the curated set of values rules and incentives if it turns out you don't love ns that's okay you're actively encouraged to fork or start a competing vision no one will force you to continue spending time on the flagship farcaster client or at ns's campus if you don't want to two balajis is not seeking to be a tyrant or dictator ask him during ns lunch and learn what his personal ambitions are within the network state project and he will consistently respond minimum viable balajis he may also liken himself to a reluctantly kwon yu who peacefully sets a system in motion before passing the torch some people might disagree with some of that but carrying on don't wanna this is daryl's perspective he may also yes the singapore analogy is contradicting in isolation the onus is on you to hear the full context

on the premise of the ns and farcaster merger as i've posted about in the network states channel i've been to both forest city and kazakhstan and i've seen the network's school core team in action some of the smartest and hardest working government employees i know operationally they're just like any other tech startup iterating on minimum viable product to validate or invalidate a number of unproven thesis it doesn't surprise me at all that balaji ended up being the fabled third bidder to take over neynar because of one of his long long running thesis is techno democracy turns out balaji has been consistently touting the idea of farcaster as a crypto enabled governance platform for years both internally and to his audience at network state at network school and at conferences like token twenty forty nine and then he did link to his talk at token twenty twenty forty nine in singapore back in 2024 techno democracy and then daryl goes on to say knowing all this it saddens me to see that the techno democracy experiment imposed on farcaster's flagship user base on day one preemptively barred people from participating in the vote over weird stupid things they said years ago and again we don't have full insight so we're just going on what we know this is sort of what you know we're kind of seeing but we don't know the full scope of what these bans were about they had no choice but to exit their keys scramble to boot up another client work around new api restrictions just to get their normal experience back true but also just to also clarify you still had access to your wallet still had read only access just to be clear and then honestly not cool brutal first impression for an incoming steward of an of an aspires aspiring credibly neutral protocol step step one seriously undermined the premise of step two and erased a lot of emerging culture and community goodwill what's most jarring is that i think many people who were left out are quite conscious about crops value and would otherwise be quite aligned with the network state ideas but they are needlessly fearful and resentful now to my farcaster friends who are abruptly forced to leave or totally put off by this transition because there's that aspect too or its premise i understand completely and will miss you here and then talks about looking ahead how we can move forward etcetera so really good thread

does say that he kind of rethought some of these things because he didn't have full context he has another another cast that he said after chatting a little bit with balajis and he changed his thoughts on a few things so i'd read both of those we'll have them in the show notes and you can read more about his thoughts on things like you know edge city and network school etcetera k that was a lot it's a very long thread there's no way i'm reading the whole thing it's very long there's a lot of links to things but it's very good i appreciate the time that he took to i mean it's still it's like it keeps going on i really appreciate the time he took to share all that and to really do it thoroughly and to kind of present a lot of different perspectives as well thoughts

yeah i really i i really appreciate it i i appreciate him taking the time and being so thorough adding so many links in there that were really helpful gives more context and i felt like was encompassing yeah so very good alright few other things this from our friend grin to understand the future of fc take a look at farcaster.xyz little squiggly thing i forget what the name of that is code it's quite good and we'll make sure this is linked in the show notes as well because it is kind of hidden the only other place that it's been has been in balajis post so a lot and then it was in daryl's daryl had included in his so it's hard to find and i wanna make sure that's that people can find that it's quite good if you take five minutes to write down how you want farcaster tilde thank you that was the word i was looking for tilde you want farcaster discourse to feel i expect the code hits at least 80% of that and today it's cheap to enforce with ai to be honest i'm excited to see a social network oriented explicitly around civil norms and win win interactions this is again this is grin sure there will be hiccups at first but i'm willing to bet the vibes around here are better five months from now than they were five months ago we'll see and that's that's the experiment that i'm willing to wait to see as well this from chaskin some quickish thoughts on people asking how i can support crops and be excited about the changes to farcaster farcaster the app has always had moderation in a social contract dwr talked about moderation from the beginning having rules for an app doesn't inherently conflict with the free speech or censorship resistance we don't allow posting on eth research it's a space for ethereum research and moderation helps keep it useful that's reasonable if the mods start banning research about mev because they personally didn't think mev was a problem that would be a different story they'd be using their position to suppress ideas within the discussion the forum is supposed to support directionally for apps experimenting with rules and algorithms that make conversations more productive we have algorithms already deciding what gets attention based on what keeps us scrolling and i want people trying other approaches and he kinda goes on from there so there's a lot again it's another long one recommend you read it this is chaskin from a theory and foundation who's also been on farcaster for a long time as well all of these are long so i'm doing my best to summarize because it's a lot people got very wordy
