0:58Speaker 0

good morning

1:00Speaker 2

g m maybe now she's in the in the audience she said if she's awake

1:06Speaker 0

if she's awake

1:08Speaker 1

if she's awake i think she yeah she may be for moral support but i already told her i can't handle the the live comments and and all the screen button clicking it's just it's too hard and i don't know how you guys do it but i you know but gm everyone lot lot of news to talk about today

1:29Speaker 0

yeah buddy

1:31Speaker 1

and and we're gonna get through it you guys can monitor the chat and feel free to bring up and press buttons

1:39Speaker 0

happ happy to what's up mary anne's mikado yes too good to see you

1:45Speaker 2

g m g m so on time everybody

1:49Speaker 0

yeah for real

1:51Speaker 1

yep especially we're at a different time today exactly i like this later jaime one more hour to drink coffee alright you guys wanna get into some forecaster 29 minutes of forecaster news

2:03Speaker 0

let's do it

2:04Speaker 2

yeah alright i was i was like oh my gosh that's a lot of tabs

2:09Speaker 1

so if you notice today i have horizontal tabs on monday i went with vertical tabs big mistake so we're we're we're so huge huge mistake but this is what we learn i decided like like everything it's just new things are uncomfortable and i didn't really know how to do tabs now i do okay believe it or not there's a lot of news that are not channels but i thought we'd start with channels and just get that out of the way

2:36Speaker 0

it's what the people want

2:38Speaker 1

do they

2:39Speaker 0

i mean people like like complaining

2:43Speaker 1

stated preference

2:44Speaker 2

most yeah most of our daus complaining so this is great activity

2:50Speaker 1

listen so we'll start with dwr with the channels update so from from yesterday his channels update 1 it was a big change that's an understatement but overall i think sentiment is net positive across a good chunk of the network 2 the most common frustrations are losing access to a favorite channel especially if you had a streak in it seeing your reply below the fold older casts and channels disappearing from personal profiles and many channels not having clear instructions for joining what we're doing about it this week 3 continue to talk to users that's mostly dan and pay attention to feedback we're considering some tweaks to how above and below the fold works for nonmembers especially if the original caster is following someone we won't make any sudden changes here if for what it's worth 5 strongly considering adding back older casts and channels to profiles with a label on the cast the data is untouched at the protocol level just hidden on warpcast right now and 6 continue to get feedback from channel owners mods users developers on making requests to join a channel a primitive similar to invites again no sudden changes i feel like he kinda captured the sentiment in terms of like the the immediate like the the big picture things that people were complaining

4:17Speaker 0

about yeah i mean this this definitely reflects my dms the like i run or like i i would say run loosely but i have like 7 or 8 channels that i've like either started or have eventually gotten control of and you know i i feel really bad because i didn't like check my dms on you know saturday night or whatever but there are people for example in the cats channel that like when they made the change i hadn't like set up the link or anything like that and so people were just like

4:49Speaker 2

hey i lost my streak in cats

4:50Speaker 0

and i'm like i'm so sorry

4:54Speaker 1

right a streak people need people that's like i can see how it's like you get emotional about that because you get

5:01Speaker 2

and i think a lot of people don't realize that replies count as in your streaks i think it would have counted if you replied right

5:08Speaker 0

oh i don't know i i i was not aware if that is the case

5:12Speaker 2

oh okay sometimes yeah just the secret to streak saving is you just reply to yourself with a little emoji

5:20Speaker 0

i i always wondered what percentage of duolingo's customer res report requests were streak reinstatement

5:27Speaker 2

oh it's like

5:28Speaker 0

i can't imagine it's a small percentage

5:30Speaker 2

mhmm mhmm

5:31Speaker 1

people like their streaks like yeah calling up and being like hey you took away my streak but i did do something as i clicked a button yesterday

5:38Speaker 0

mhmm yeah she's like no i finished the lesson at 1159 please

5:43Speaker 1

oh yeah teacher i need an extension on my homework okay so

5:47Speaker 2

oh sudden changes

5:49Speaker 1

yes so

5:52Speaker 1

so a day ago like this is the update as of last night dwr with the channel update summary so since this cast yesterday they've already made changes so one brought older channel casts back to user profiles so i think what was happening is if if if you got kicked out of a channel by accident it no longer shows up on your profile and people would get upset about that because yeah i poked them up after that actually added a dedicated channels added a dedicated channels tab and notifications to everyone previously you need to priority mode on so you can kind of see that 3 propose an iteration for how replies work to be more inclusive still on our radar 4 make it easier for people to request to join a channel leveraging the growing set of tools built by developers channel owners can decide how they wanna do it 5 make it easier to invite people to your channel from a reply dc profile and 6 what to do about or what to do with abandoned channels so

6:55Speaker 0

i so i don't know about about y'all but my dms were basically hey can i join this channel with no context about what channel they wanted to join oh and so like you know i got like 20 plus dms from people and all my responses are just like what channel what channel what channel and like some of them i'm i wasn't even in charge of so i don't even know why they were messaging me but i do

7:20Speaker 2

so what channel did you get that people assumed was you was belonging to you

7:24Speaker 0

so there was i think it might have been a typo but so i i am now the owner of the creator's channel and if you've seen some of my casts i am like trying to get feedback of like what creators on farcaster want out of that mhmm but people were asking me about creators adjacent ones so i'm assuming it was a typo but i'm not sure so it'd be like like creator without the s or something like that mhmm

7:50Speaker 2

mhmm

7:50Speaker 0

which i think perks might own i'm not sure

7:55Speaker 1

alright

7:59Speaker 1

cameron you're the ultimate creator i just i

8:02Speaker 0

don't know about that

8:04Speaker 1

yeah that's why that's why people are dming you about it's

8:06Speaker 2

not like every all about actually this is true if you have any like creator problems go to camera

8:13Speaker 0

yeah just flood my inbox

8:15Speaker 1

see no

8:16Speaker 2

well no no no post on the creator's channel yeah

8:20Speaker 0

the the the big thing with channels though yeah

8:24Speaker 2

okay i appreciate that

8:25Speaker 0

yeah so because like oh man that's good with a couple of the channels that i have i've put the invite link in the the stickied link at the top which they now allow us to have which i really appreciate because that solves the pin cast problem because sometimes you just need the link mhmm but obviously that's gonna get overrun with spam really really quickly and so no channel works that way right now cats works that way right now but i don't want creators to work that way right now because that's that i think that needs to be like hyper curated and so i really hope that they do something like build a basic cast action like i know they want other people to do it but i mean sometimes it just feels like we're building baseline features for them for free and so like like as a developer i don't always love that but a simple cast action that just is like invite this person to the channel that i don't have to freaking build myself would would solve my main pain point as a as a channel owner right now deleting channels that i don't wanna be in charge of anymore right now would also solve a big pain point

9:26Speaker 2

yeah and then we have other folks who join us in chat and adrian i can't bring up the chat so

9:32Speaker 0

we can't see the comments

9:34Speaker 2

i can see it

9:35Speaker 1

don't worry but you can't bring them on screen

9:37Speaker 0

no i can't can't class citizen today kristen

9:40Speaker 2

yeah but it's okay and i just wanna mention that mikado mentioned that if they click on to message owner on any channel it would now create an automated dc mentioning the the channel

9:50Speaker 0

yeah please

9:53Speaker 1

yeah and i and i think the key is i i think they're merkel and dan like they're keying in on the big pain points and they're gonna solve them so you know by the time tomorrow all the complaints we talk about may be solved but yeah it's

10:08Speaker 1

and and i think you're right cameron when when it's like when the tooling isn't all coming from merkle and this is you know with decentralization the ux isn't always as good like we don't you don't always know the source of truth and things change really fast mhmm this from chris corella for purple this i just thought this was a good example so everyone has been kicked from the purple channel and our moderation tools are set up if you are a member of purple please come to the channel and rejoin it's now gated on our token and of course purple's a dao it's token you know you you join by purchasing a purple token and this is like a great example of we used to have token gated direct casts or group messages but yep not in the channels and like this is what everyone wanted right so for communities makes a ton of sense i was super excited however a warning to those if you use modbot and you wanna like kick everyone out of a channel and ask them to rejoin it will cause a problem because mod bot sees when you kick someone out it has a ban so people couldn't rejoin with any type

11:14Speaker 0

i i was collateral damage i i got a big mean hey you are banned from purple message and i i told chris that i was i guess gonna have to quit farcaster and shame

11:26Speaker 2

yeah yeah i think i think he managed to ban dan as well is that the next one

11:31Speaker 1

so be careful i didn't pull i didn't pull that oh okay kicked in but i did see i didn't pull this either but i did see by the way dan replying to one of my casts oh i think in gm farcaster but he's not in the channel so he got show more replies and it was dan romero so even dwr is not you know amused

11:51Speaker 0

put him in the dust bowl exactly

11:52Speaker 2

he's gonna feel how we feel

11:56Speaker 1

this meme from july it's the swimming pool skeleton at the bottom you know being below the fold the skeleton the the poor child who can't who's can't swim being above the fold and new favorite child that we're focusing on being a member

12:14Speaker 0

imagine taking this photo

12:18Speaker 0

just like just like seeing this child and being like oh yeah definitely boop

12:24Speaker 2

me more than

12:26Speaker 1

imagine this child i know we're going up like jump into like it was she was jumping in she's a great swimmer she was jumping in it caught it at a very high speed you know and just like snapped it perfectly and it was just like her face of fun we don't know

12:43Speaker 1

from oxbid i'm wondering how new farcaster users will get into channels how can they grow and be seen if they haven't been invited to certain channels because they're completely new here any thoughts or tips would casting without a channel be powerful enough to help them grow it could be a great option if it worked that way should they dm channel loaner to moderators to request an invite i'm asking because i'm constantly trying to onboard new people by encouraging them to join the london channel here

13:10Speaker 2

i

13:10Speaker 1

think she just kinda captures a common concern of it's the who are you building for people are already here how do you make sure new people can get in

13:19Speaker 2

yeah this is super tough i actually have a friend who has been watching us from afar and kinda laughing at us his username is kent b yeah kent davin yeah and then like here's the thing like he's been kind of making fun of us but he just started a new channel i had to like you know wire him the warps to do that actually i just set up the whole channel for him because of course it's it's good that didn't work and i was like what like i guess we have to be bullish on farcaster because despite everything that's going on he still wants to make a channel and grow a fiction community so

13:51Speaker 0

i i actually think it's really interesting when you look at casts like this

13:57Speaker 1

mhmm

13:58Speaker 0

because it it is basically a validation that status on farcaster is meaningful to somebody somewhere

14:04Speaker 2

mhmm

14:05Speaker 0

and like i you know as someone i mean like we've all been on this app for a long time sometimes i kind of forget that like while we're screwing around and and making our our fun little shows and stuff like it is actually becoming a valuable resource for people which is really cool

14:21Speaker 2

exactly oh can i name drop my friend's channel name before we move on because i really appreciate it to you it's all things fiction all one word

14:30Speaker 0

hell yeah

14:31Speaker 1

alright check that out all things fiction

14:33Speaker 2

it's squatted

14:37Speaker 1

so speaking of squatted and it sounds like dan was talking about a band some of the channels are also abandoned

14:43Speaker 2

yeah abandoned yeah yeah bandwidth is squatting

14:47Speaker 1

we need a marketplace for channels maybe bounty caster that seems like a good place

14:52Speaker 0

to do please no marketplace there's gonna be a race to the bottom

14:57Speaker 1

amaran the in the entire world is a marketplace the i don't know if you guys have been checking your channel announcements yeah

15:05Speaker 0

this one

15:05Speaker 1

is a great one but just because you send them doesn't mean we read them and this was a meme i made of a punk cat i haven't read a single channel announcement and this is true

15:18Speaker 0

adrienne do you have any photos of of you in this this version of your era

15:25Speaker 1

it's funny cameron i don't know if you knew i had a version of this era or you're just assuming because i'm a

15:33Speaker 0

i i i i could i could feel the the connection to reality

15:39Speaker 1

yeah this is i had i i wore leather and had pink hair at some point in my life

15:44Speaker 0

100% believe me

15:46Speaker 2

yeah that's why you related to this picture and turned it into a meme you know and it's deep psychology

15:52Speaker 1

and of course kristen you are a channel owner so you must you must as a channel owner and a channel member you must know people aren't reading and you're probably not abusing the channel announcements

16:04Speaker 2

so i just the issue will for me i don't know whether y'all feel the same way that the channels tab just looks messy because it's like now you have like all sorts of things that land in there and then like i already feel overwhelmed by inboxes so it just feels like oh no there's a there's a there's a new inbox

16:21Speaker 1

so i think yeah and i think this is probably an in between we'll figure out right but it's the we're probably following too many channels

16:30Speaker 0

that's a fact

16:31Speaker 1

so i'm a channel hoarder

16:34Speaker 0

i'll i'll throw this out there for for dio dad if if if they're listening i think announcements should probably not be visible in the channels tab unless you click on it and like the number of unread announcements is stickied up at the top and so like you have kind of like when you click into that tab a header bar with like things that are gonna consistently come from channels and then if you start scrolling it's like a like a a more organic feed feeling thing i think that would be a lot less jarring or like challenging to consume

17:05Speaker 2

yeah i like how the nanush professor says and i've read them all who's the completionist now adria

17:12Speaker 0

prop can't get into video games they'll never get anything done

17:15Speaker 2

oh my gosh

17:17Speaker 1

i'm sure no prop is not a completionist cameron completionist

17:20Speaker 0

okay she's not

17:21Speaker 1

no no

17:22Speaker 0

i am

17:22Speaker 1

it is me yeah but i think she's ribbing me

17:27Speaker 0

are you a gamer

17:27Speaker 1

oh no

17:29Speaker 0

we'll we'll find you one i bet we can get you hooked on stardew valley or something

17:33Speaker 1

i'm i'm just a gst type of girl i like to so and and and this from chris corella i unfollowed all the huge channels they don't make sense to me anymore people should just broadcast into the main feed and have more thoughtful discussions and channels and dan in most cases i agree with this general topic channels don't work well in the new model they were built for an era of channels as as hashtags there will be some exceptions but will require a lot of work from the channel owner and moderators to make sure a large channel becomes and stays a community this goes to kind of the we've for for the past year it was kind of in this no man's land and we thought of channels as mhmm canonical topics aka hashtags but

18:18Speaker 0

dan is so good thanks

18:19Speaker 1

for changing

18:20Speaker 0

at reframing because like consultant trick yeah because like the the thing here that is like the thing they learned is that with that like people aren't gonna do the work to make sure the food channel doesn't turn into an ai generated image hellscape

18:38Speaker 2

mhmm

18:38Speaker 0

and like framing it as like it takes a lot of work to maintain a community it's such a it's such a like it it it it makes perfect sense as you say it while also remaining optimistic about the product i just really appreciate that

18:54Speaker 1

oh shout out we can we can learn from him and then of course dan what are we missing if you have ideas dee reply because dan reads them all i don't know i don't know if he does anything but read casts so definitely reply their next big project that they're thinking about is kind of onboarding people directly to channels which you know rough idea you can invite someone to farcaster and when they sign up they immediately join your channel and their initial home feed is weighted toward your channels and people you interact with a lot should help solve having a group of people to interact with on day 1 without worrying about not having access to channels and or spam labeling i freaking love this like i

19:37Speaker 2

think this yeah i i love it

19:40Speaker 1

too direction

19:41Speaker 0

i i love it asterisk

19:44Speaker 2

yeah yeah asterisk asterisk asterisk

19:46Speaker 0

the asterisk here and if they believe and i'm sure we're gonna get into this too but if they believe that like cost hasn't significantly reduced spam in the way that they thought it would which means it's only basically punishing normal human beings who don't have that extra incentive to join

20:04Speaker 1

the app mhmm

20:05Speaker 0

i really hope that this initiative isn't implicitly assuming that if you are onboarding somebody to the channel like you are funding that for that person because we know most people won't pay to join the thing like i would love to see a farcaster creator fund of channels that are like earnest and like doing interesting good content so that they can like help onboard people in specific funnels and then you get rewarded in a proportion to the good users you bring on

20:35Speaker 2

yeah 100% and and i feel like this will help me onboard my non crypto friends if i can set it up so that you know they are funneled towards more creator yap and and less crypto yap then that will make the whole place less scary for them

20:50Speaker 1

yeah i've kind of given up on trying to onboard people who are not my non crypto people i tried to do it this weekend i was with old college friends and i showed them the app yeah they kinda got it i mean this is even someone who's like full like luddite like very anti tech and i showed her and she said she kinda did say she's like oh so is it like the internet without the trolls so she understood that but then as she's going through my feed it was like what's this what's this what's like i don't think there would be enough shared context for her to actually

21:21Speaker 2

we need to we need to share our muted keywords

21:24Speaker 1

but there are yeah maybe that's it but but there's like people i know on farcaster that she would immediately find her people but i don't mhmm

21:32Speaker 0

for sure

21:33Speaker 1

so maybe that's the channel it's the

21:34Speaker 2

you can almost have to be like a you know desperate enough creator i feel like that that's you know usually the that's like including myself that's the friends who stick around if you're desperate enough

21:46Speaker 1

wow to find

21:46Speaker 0

a way to find a way to find a way to creator a cozy enough creator for reframing it also speaking of onboarding adrienne tori's stories in the chat says that they'll play stardew with you apparently that's

22:01Speaker 1

how assume that's a video game

22:03Speaker 0

yeah so it's like a farming simulator i don't know if you're familiar with that class but it's it's kind of like the canonical farming game now it's basically one guy username concerned ape built it over the course of like 5 years by himself like mostly and it it became like a a smash hit people love it it's

22:23Speaker 1

yeah i have no desire to get into games except i will say like except for the fact that i think it would help me understand farcaster a lot more than i do because i keep finding like i pick up things on farcaster and then later realize it's like coming from gaming culture so do have you been in footnote me and my you know 13 year old son all of a sudden have a lot more in common than we ever did before

22:48Speaker 0

hell yeah

22:49Speaker 1

yeah have you we have the same slang now

22:52Speaker 0

that's sick have you been in neynard's gather dot town

22:56Speaker 1

no should i go there

22:58Speaker 0

i mean it so the the weekly calls that they do like that visual vibe is like stardew valley so if you like go there and walk around you're like oh

23:09Speaker 1

i know gather town

23:10Speaker 2

i

23:11Speaker 1

know i've been in gathers yeah

23:12Speaker 0

yep so that that's like the the vibe of stardew

23:15Speaker 1

so like the metaverse yeah just total yeah

23:19Speaker 0

my my like one soapbox for people learning how to play like learning gaming later in life is that i actually think it is the version of like elder care that is like much more humane than today like it's very i wanna be 80 years old just ripping combos in super smash brothers like that sounds like heaven for me

23:49Speaker 1

i okay i love that

23:51Speaker 0

i know this is this

23:51Speaker 2

is a we're waiting to keep this in mind we're gonna keep this in mind

23:56Speaker 0

tory me neither i can't wait for talking to someone

23:58Speaker 1

have robots coming through just curious i'm gonna ask one question and then we're gonna move on to more news beyond channels in this world when you're 80 years old in your in your home and playing are you playing video games that exist today or do you wanna like do are you gonna be open to the games that are existing in 50 years from now

24:18Speaker 0

me personally i'm gonna be open to it i i gen generally think we're gonna have kind of like mind machine interfaces with future games which is like even more to the point of like when you don't have the hand eye coordination like you used to do like a lot of people are sharp but they can't like physically replicate the things that they like want their brain or like their brains can think to do and so like i wanna continue to play new games just like i personally wanna continue to find new music and all of these other forms of media that i i i like embracing from the you know newer generation now that i'm like getting past being a young person

24:58Speaker 2

mhmm

24:59Speaker 0

so like i'm a i'm a glutton for newness

25:04Speaker 1

it's a good skill i i to me like the embracing new is the best future skill like it's and it's a skill like you kind of have to force yourself i think forecaster's good at that all right we'll do we'll move on from channels because believe it or not a lot has happened that have not been channels related for real linda from bounty caster we're in the process of ship shipping a v one for 2 new categories on bounty caster caster resumes and for sale getting closer to our version of craigslist plus social plus crypto if you want to get a post up in either category when we launch please dm me we're looking for posts if you're publicly looking for your next role or selling items for example samantha humankind candles or be curious with farcaster tea matcha so i love the bounty caster ex craigslist because i'm a yeah craigslist is like my version of the internet

26:01Speaker 2

yeah

26:04Speaker 1

samantha of course so excited to sell human kind candles on bounty caster connect with linda to sell your goods or if you're looking for a new role for those that don't know samantha is crazycandlelady person new to forecaster is it sorry crazy candle person

26:21Speaker 2

yes unfortunately the username update means

26:23Speaker 1

it's hard to remember that crazy candle person and you need to follow her them and buy their candles because that is the best way to live your life

26:33Speaker 0

they smell really good

26:35Speaker 2

it comes with a community i i feel like that people don't may not necessarily know that if you sign up for the hypersub you get access to a gc that's like actually really active and you get to hear all sorts of things about building a small business

26:48Speaker 1

we love

26:49Speaker 0

29:13Speaker 0

he's he's relatively new

29:16Speaker 1

but he's been posting a lot and he wrote in his substack like this is what i love is i love when you can get kind of the insight into everyone's like little niche of their kind of corner so he's sharing about his book advanced in terms of kind of how he got paid what he needs to do to get royalties and i just found that really interesting and i appreciate people who who share i

29:40Speaker 0

i don't think i i like i don't think people realize how big of a deal it is that nat's like hanging out on farcaster

29:47Speaker 2

yeah

29:48Speaker 0

like he he's like a real deal like creator he like even just one anecdote he decided maybe like a year plus ago that he was gonna like win on tiktok and then he like dedicated a little mini sprint to it and made became basically a bookfluencer and went you know from 0 to a 100 k a 100 k plus followers in the span of a couple months obviously being a a published author working on more books that that's kind of like a a little bit of a cheat code for it but like i followed along for that journey organically like before any of the farcaster stuff because like this is adjacent to the stuff that i find really interesting and like watching the iterations of like his early stuff and realizing what things hit what he needed to change the visual cues and stuff like the dude knows his stuff and so like i love that he's hanging out here and i'm super excited to see his opinions about the evolution of farcaster

30:48Speaker 1

yeah and i find when i see people it's like if you see people that you like hanging out on farcaster best thing to do is engage

30:56Speaker 0

hunny pete

30:56Speaker 1

apply start conversations like recast even if they're like you you think people don't need the little like dopamine rewards but

31:06Speaker 0

everybody does

31:07Speaker 1

every like even people you know you got big filings elsewhere like engage with them on farcaster they're more likely to stay so

31:14Speaker 0

elon bought twitter because of it let's

31:18Speaker 2

yeah and actually i introduced him nate to kent and then nate bought kent's book so so i feel like it's important for us to like you know introduce people to people so they would reason to hang around

31:32Speaker 1

good this from mac bukowski from kiwi news there's announcing a kiwi nounce writing contest everyone is welcome to write about cc 0 decentralized governance bottom up brand building and other nounish subjects we prepared 5 prompts to help authors explore the nouniverse we also received a prompt from one of the nouners seneca to participate in the contest your blog post must answer at least one of the prompts apart from the eternal glory you will be able to win a part of the 3.5 eth prize pool but guys do it for the glory glory is way better than eth our contest is platform agnostic so you can post your essay anywhere you want paragraph mirror substack x farcaster or even zuora even if you don't win the main prize you can win some attention subscribers because kiwi and some nouns members will repost the best submissions so links to there and thank you chris carella nounish professor and wiz for helping to set it up thanks to all the nouns who supported our prop so

32:33Speaker 0

i like one of the things i love the most about farcaster is that and i might just be in the wrong places on the internet but i feel like everything that was built up on the beginning of the internet for writers lives in pages that feel like they were made in 2,005 and there's been like this dip where like a substack obviously has grown beehive has has kinda grown too but like these community things with like real no joke like dollars or i guess fake internet dollars the like these kind of places don't live in high-tech parts of the internet except for on farcaster as far as i can tell

33:14Speaker 1

but how can yeah but it seems a lot easier when farcaster's cryptorails

33:19Speaker 0

yeah honeywell

33:20Speaker 1

like how do you add yeah just it just becomes part of it

33:26Speaker 1

this is from jack at j4ck buckle up kids tayab just ran a world class world first import of his linkedin social graph into icebreaker with no api access using zktls we will be smoothing this flow over the next week or 2 until you can run it yourselves as well ice is broken so icebreaker if you don't know is the kinda crypto version of linkedin is is the best way to describe it but it's you know it's more and i think this is super cool

33:59Speaker 2

that is freaking cool alright because i think the i love icebreaker the whole concept of it but yeah it's a pain to find people unless you're you're like the woofy and you're like a mega user who like badges everything to single person out there so this is a quick import it's so useful

34:15Speaker 1

yeah and and related one of my favorite quotes that i casted is from the book the psychology of money by morgan housel progress happens too slowly to notice but setbacks happen too quickly to ignore

34:26Speaker 2

and

34:27Speaker 1

it's that phenomena of like when something bad happens everybody talks about it it it's like an event we know it progress is really slow you don't even see it as it's happening and you can only see it in hindsight so it's like oh when the iphone came out and everyone's building mobile apps and you have to like you didn't know it wasn't like so disruptive in the day same thing with ai i mean like chat gpt is almost 2 years out the world's changing but it doesn't feel like it's changed on one day so i feel the same way about farcaster it's kind of easy to talk about all the things that aren't happening but like really only in hindsight when you look back do you realize kind of the the steps we're taking

35:08Speaker 1

oh this from woj and luke have been working on fareconomy.com

35:16Speaker 1

woj extremely proud to launch this a month ago i tried to answer a question if farcaster is a network state how do we measure its gdp and the chad luke actually started working on putting the data together read his thread join far economy channel and visit farconomy.com to learn more about farcaster economy and its opportunities i thought this was cool i think a lot of people are actually working on this being decentralized snickerdoodle's done a lot in kind of measuring the farconomy and i thought that was definitely cool this from dwr one thing i was wrong about over the last few years sign up costs would dramatically reduce spam turns out spam is a top three problem aside from retention and infrastructure scaling to solve for when building a permissionless decentralized social networking protocol spammers are willing to pay for sign ups at prices that normal users aren't spam is also relative what's spammy for one person is not for another corollary when you talk to developers building on farcaster spam is top of mind issue whereas users giving product feedback but not actively building an ecosystem tend to think it's not that big of an issue or it's not that part of a problem to solve also a good proxy for the quality of first principles thinking when suggesting why don't you just do this if you haven't considered how spammers would abuse it and what's the solution this is great i think i just also had to pull it because we love to call out i love when dan calls out things he's learned

36:37Speaker 0

spam's so hard ma'am

36:39Speaker 1

i mean it's yeah it's hard and

36:47Speaker 1

i i actually think they're doing a decent job but i i just figured they were

36:50Speaker 2

hiring me in the more rep like you know more replies especially now that it's like the the culture of what that means is slowly evolving to not be like a you're a bad person essentially like like now i don't see as many like actual like ai spam in in my more replies

37:09Speaker 0

yeah i mean they've been building up like like machine learning models to identify spam like casts for the past 2 years and i i wouldn't be surprised if they soon have like best in class spam models for for text based social certainly in like web 3 but also just like in modern start up like in the modern star startup class

37:32Speaker 1

yeah and related to feed quality wake says my forecaster feed is beginning to resemble twitter not in a good way squabbling posturing and misinformation abound none of it funny some of it dangerous i won't help with that so instead of unfollowing anyone specifically i've made the choice to reset my follows and exit most channels i'll meander my way back to the channels i use and people i cherish over the coming days weeks find me in the arena in the arena as ever see you soon i just have to say like i think there's a great great approach and everyone still has agency my feed has been pristine still so but it's

38:09Speaker 2

well art lou rest in peace we saw our stream yesterday where we mentioned like can you name a phenomenon after yourself and apparently nuking your entire follow is called pulling a camera

38:21Speaker 1

yes

38:23Speaker 2

the og

38:24Speaker 1

yeah we used to do follow all like a long time ago there was no one like it was just we're just gonna follow everyone on the network

38:34Speaker 1

alright unfortunately

38:37Speaker 0

i don't think anyone who nukes their their following is gonna find what they're looking for doing that as for unfortunately i found that out

38:46Speaker 2

yeah all you get is people getting getting snided yeah

38:50Speaker 0

yeah like people people were upset and i felt really bad because i didn't mean to do that but anyway

38:58Speaker 1

alright i'm skipping over we're not gonna get to all the links i i know you say that mom sorry to disappoint i thought we could

39:05Speaker 2

do it we slowed you down ajay yeah we we we're commentating too hard

39:10Speaker 0

we are barnacles on your efficient ship

39:13Speaker 1

i want i want you guys to be you we don't bring guests on and tell them how to act you guys gotta

39:18Speaker 0

it's such a nice way to agree with

39:20Speaker 1

us you've gotta bring your color and and and people appreciate it and the but this from base roll call who's going to devcon

39:30Speaker 1

are either of you going

39:32Speaker 0

no says i i need more users i can't justify conferences

39:37Speaker 2

yeah because that's the thing i i would love to go to announcer town too oh okay jodie hawk

39:43Speaker 1

quick roll call who is not going to be at defcon not going to be at nownestown but is going to be curled up in a fomo induced fetal position in the corner that is us we have a we can have a little group group cope session this from jesse pollock we are building an open source on chain cross platform react stack that will power coinbase wallet and more if you are a world class react or react native engineer i want you to join our team i led the rewrite of coinbase to react native and our team is already stacked so if you remember jesse recently as founder of base also is taking over leadership of coinbase wallet building out that team so opportunities there if you are a world class react developer also if you're a user of coinbase wallet jesse pollock asking for feedback if you were benevolent dictator of coinbase wallet for one day what would you change so he's taking a page out of dan's product management

40:43Speaker 2

customer sandbox

40:45Speaker 0

oh i actually agree with miguel's take there of make the wallet screen where we see our assets the first screen when we enter the app that's a that's a that's a big one i hate when functional apps don't let me use the function immediately i get why they

41:00Speaker 1

want it to be jobs to be done cameron are we yeah the job to be done is let me do the thing alright we'll get in there and comment and like miguel's cast or something and upvote it shout out matthew and late night crew they're gonna be talking channels update i think this is this evening

41:18Speaker 2

yes

41:18Speaker 1

yeah last it wasn't last night was it yes

41:21Speaker 2

alright i see that it might be a bit late for 8 or 10 pm oh my gosh

41:26Speaker 0

yeah past my bedtime

41:27Speaker 1

i just i yeah i don't do late night i do this from d f david furlong how to make no code frames including a guide on how to launch on farcaster oh check that out i thought that was really cool oh a nice little reminder from vista

41:47Speaker 0

yeah it's a biggie

41:49Speaker 1

stay safe out there there are easy typos for warpcast.com now redirect to wallet trainers so i just have to i mean like this and any other crypto thing is just like really be careful out there pay attention this from jesse jean gm i'm giving away one ticket for nft paris 2025 rules follow me in fries comment with why you want the ticket quote cast as post i'll announce the winner this sunday

42:16Speaker 1

this from oxbid o x b $1,000,000 in real based memes trading volume purely by retail and only ios big milestone for for bolide and it's congrats the entire base community we're doing great no matter what others may think

42:37Speaker 0

nice

42:38Speaker 1

and congrats to bolide alright let's talk about this

42:42Speaker 0

okay

42:43Speaker 1

okay bangor i am not logged in so i don't really see that this is a frame but there is an okay bangor frame

42:50Speaker 0

there is

42:52Speaker 1

who's behind it

42:54Speaker 0

honestly i'm not quite sure i think it's the person whose pfp matches the bottom left mhmm but like i didn't see the original i don't think when i first saw it but this is like a multi like this is an ongoing phenomenon and so when we okay so short version we first started okaybanger chris and i got a ton of like i think fan art but also people just trying to promote their accounts of just like drawing us that died down after the initial launch a couple weeks ago somebody put out a pixelized okay banger logo which i thought was amazing they also put out a pixelized see more our like little mascot character logo which i i obviously fell in love with and then like every time we engage with it they i think it like gave them permission to do more and so now it is it has evolved into this version of it which is just it's just cute right and so thank you for the people that are making these like we love it and we're gonna continue to share it if you keep making stuff like that

44:01Speaker 2

exactly we're always amazed by the fan fan art i think the username is sukiyaki something but i'm trying to pull it up

44:08Speaker 0

i think that is right we'll we'll find it and we'll post it after

44:11Speaker 1

because unlike other frames that are like when you share it it's like they'll tag the creator of the frame like yeah yeah i a selfish one so hard selfless there's no tagging there's no like recast like there's no virality inherently baked in and yet it's all over my feed so that also is i think very

44:31Speaker 0

i mean it's it's super bullish for a farcaster because like i mean i i yell this at kristen all the time about myself which is like i really believe that the best content wins in the again in the end like always you know you you have like you know shitcoin incentives and all that but the best content is what people want to engage with and want to share and like this kind of stuff is what makes farcaster like really really interesting for everybody who isn't trying to you know get their moxie daily allocation not if there's anything wrong with that but that's everybody else i'm so excited thank you for sharing that was very nice

45:10Speaker 1

i loved it i thought it was really cool yeah so i just let's wanted to talk to you guys for a little bit about okay banger yeah you guys have been how many shows i think a

45:22Speaker 0

couple of shows tomorrow's 16 mhmm incredible yeah we we we argued about the number of shows we do in a week because we were like we thought it would be exhausting but i think the the pace has been good what do you think kristen

45:37Speaker 2

i i think it's a it's a fine balance because we are like you know also aware that this is it takes time for other people to watch us so i think you know we're doing it twice a week and then we're hoping to slowly integrate into people's lives so you know you can you can listen to us when you're doing your dishes or laundry like you know something like that or not working exactly exactly

46:03Speaker 1

yeah well i listen i can i can give you guys some some what's the

46:12Speaker 1

alright alright i'm not actually we we i was we've been doing this for for a year

46:16Speaker 2

no but you say y'all like y'all have stamina exactly

46:21Speaker 1

it's it is the the regular it's like the to to build the mhmm regular audience

46:26Speaker 0

muscle yeah

46:28Speaker 1

and then even that you know it's like there's days where you you have a ton of people watch and then there's days where you don't and it's just like you just keep going showing up so i've i listened to you guys yesterday i listened to recordings i'm not always there in the in the live awesome we really appreciate that my question for you so it seems like you launched okbanger the minute okbanger kind of like took over the feed

46:49Speaker 2

you must

46:49Speaker 1

have been talking you must have been talking already was it a correct like was it okay when you must have been talking about doing something and then did you capitalize on that i'm so curious about the timing of the of the launch

47:01Speaker 2

exactly so when yeah when when cameron and i decide to do a show we were gonna name the show something else but then the moment we saw this phrase take off yes it was gonna be called skill issue we were actually oh name of that of course we're inspired by some of the existing show names here as well but yeah like you know okay banger took off and then i did jump on you know grabbing the channel and the domain name and then like cameron jumped on on the dot eth which is super useful as well so yeah and it really took off as a as a simple name that kind of makes sense outside of the farcaster community as well

47:40Speaker 0

yeah i also think that like it's it's one of those memes that it obviously did take over the feed at that moment but it'd been percolating a little bit around or like bubbling up on farcaster organically for the previous 6 months and so like everything on farcaster i think it's gonna be like one of those alright people were talking about it people talked about it a lot and now they're not really i think it'll it's like cyclical with all the all this propagation of culture stuff in the seniors as you talk about

48:06Speaker 2

right and then we you know we talk a lot about bangers but we're actually much more interested in the okay part of like what does it mean to feel okay so that's why our our shows like we talk about all the things that happen here and then we talk about motivation and how we feel and and get into the the day to day especially as a creator

48:27Speaker 1

so okay being like the are you physically okay like you or as a human like in your life it's like is that like a state you're aspiring to be

48:37Speaker 0

so we i think we both have a different take on it mhmm you know very crudely kristen i think is much more centered in the in the like state of being okay like emotionally mental health and like i try to anchor on the like the things you do if they're just okay that's great because most of the things that you do aren't the result of like some crazy 3 standard deviation 6 standard deviation like performance it's actually an accumulation of okay actions over and over and over again mhmm and so like it's this state of like we love bangers we love when things are best in class but like the reality is everything really really phenomenal is probably just okay for the most for the most part

49:27Speaker 1

i'm obsessed with this because also okay banger right is coming from the feed which is just someone kind of conceding like okay fine you like yeah you know you got me and you've got this like super deep actual meaning to it

49:42Speaker 0

we're over thinkers

49:43Speaker 2

we're we're exactly we love ascribing deeper meanings yeah and this whole sense of like the deep okayness that i think we are all subconsciously seeking through the things that we do so that's why we always end up almost at exactly the same place in every episode for those of us who watch may have noticed that

50:01Speaker 0

because kristen and i are not okay a lot of

50:03Speaker 2

the time

50:04Speaker 1

no you are but you help other people be okay so you guys gotta i i don't know i think i think you're i think you're doing more than okay

50:13Speaker 0

appreciate that

50:16Speaker 1

and and you know kristen i like i when when you whenever we started crossing feeds like i just really enjoyed your spirituality and your kind of

50:30Speaker 1

buddhist chaplain background and kind of like the that worldview and cameron you have the like quintessential army guy discipline combined with internet person and i just i i just i i thank you both i wanna just wanna thank you both for kinda being who you are also on the feed because both of you influenced me so much and i really have learned a lot from both of you and i'm super excited that you guys are doing the show together it's appreciate that

50:58Speaker 0

right back at you by the way

50:59Speaker 2

yeah gosh you're you're definitely you know you and and that profile paved the way for us to be able to do live streams and and all of that

51:08Speaker 0

yeah for real mhmm

51:10Speaker 1

on chain on chain media we're gonna like we want 24 hours of nonstop broadcaster content all day on chain all the time

51:18Speaker 2

and also behind the scenes i wanna say that personas are actually swapped like cameron is the super zen one and then i'm the one going oh but we gotta do this

51:29Speaker 1

kristen i know that because we played outkast together

51:31Speaker 2

oh right

51:32Speaker 1

or cast out whatever cast out outkast k cast out yeah i know i know the real kristen

51:38Speaker 0

yeah the kristen likes to say like she just wants to see me give the the handshake emoji tap back in our chat when she's when she's you know quintuple texting

51:52Speaker 1

outkast yeah so is it cast out i don't remember yeah yeah alright so anything else people should know about what you guys are working on

52:02Speaker 0

2 shows a week 11 am est tuesday thursday

52:06Speaker 2

exactly so search okay banger show all one word on youtube that's the most reliable way to get our channel to show up yeah and please subscribe it really helps us a lot as creators oh and subscribe to gm farcaster if you're a new as creators oh and subscribe to gm farcaster if you're new to of course

52:17Speaker 1

if you

52:17Speaker 2

haven't already i love you kristen wait i'm very bad

52:18Speaker 1

52:18Speaker 2

to subscribe

52:19Speaker 0

52:19Speaker 2

you guys are excellent at it

52:21Speaker 1

make adrienne's dead

52:29Speaker 2

press the thumbs up button

52:31Speaker 1

52:33Speaker 0

52:37Speaker 1

and thank you nanish prop i know it's cast out i do not outcast it's like you know well cameron and kristen thank you for joining i can't believe this is the first time you visited the show it feels like

52:52Speaker 0

52:57Speaker 1

that's right that park on yeah doesn't count yeah we need we need a face but this was awesome rest of week we are back on friday for 29 minutes of forecaster news at 11:30 est 8:30 pacific
