What are we missing? Also worth pointing out that the next "big" project is onboarding directly to a channel. Rough idea: you can invite someone to Farcaster and when they sign up, they immediately join your channel(s) and their initial home feed is weighted toward your channels and people you interact with a lot. Should help solve having a group of people to interact with on Day 1 without worrying about not having access to channels and/or spam labeling.
Channel update summary Since this cast yesterday, we've already: 1. Brought older channel casts back to user profiles 2. Added a dedicated channels tab in notifications to everyone 3. Proposed an iteration for how replies work to be more inclusive Still on our radar: 4. Make it easier for people to request to join a channel, leveraging the growing set of tools built by developers; channel owners can decide how they want to do it 5. Make it easier to invite people to your channel from a reply / DC / profile 6. What to do with abandoned channels
In most cases, I agree with this. General topic channels don't work well in the new model. They were built an era of channels as hashtags. There will be some exceptions, but will require a lot of work from the channel owner and moderators to make sure a large channel becomes and stays a community.
Protocol fees started off at $12 last year. We've been progressively reducing them as we've gotten better at finding and labelling spam on the network. Goal is to get to $1 fees by the end of the year.

I just posted my first "Quarterly Author Update," where I shared: - The most recent book sales numbers & earnings - A quick Crypto Confidential launch recap - Updates on the books I'm working on next - A small blog update I hope you enjoy! https://blog.nateliason.com/p/quarterly-author-update-1 (sorry for double cast, link on the first was messed up)
gm. my farcaster feed is beginning to resemble twitter, and not in a good way. squabbling, posturing, and misinformation abound, none of it funny, some of it dangerous. i won't help with that. so, instead of unfollowing anyone specifically, i've made the choice to reset my follows and exit most channels. I'll meander my way back to the channels I use and people I cherish over the coming days and weeks. Find me in the arena, as ever. See you soon 🎩🌹
Look I know my "We're going to fucking win together" shit can be seen as cringe But this game is hard as fuck and I'll be your champion
our @kiwi x @nouns writing contest news is out! Everyone is welcome to write about cc0, decentralized governance, bottom-up brand building and other Nounish subjects. We prepared five prompts to help authors explore the Nouniverse. We also received a prompt from one of the Nounders - @seneca. To participate in the contest, your blog post must answer at least one of the prompts. Apart from the eternal glory, you will be able to win a part of the 3.5 ETH prize pool. Our contest is platform agnostic, so you can post your essay anywhere you want - on Paragraph, Mirror, Substack, X, Farcaster, or even ZORA. Even if you don’t win the main prize, you can win some attention and subscribers because Kiwi and some Nouns members will repost the best submissions. You can learn more about the contest here: https://paragraph.xyz/@kiwi-updates/into-the-nouniverse-writing-contest PS: Thanks to @ccarella.eth, @nounishprof and @wiz, for helping to set it up, and thanks to all Nouns who supported our prop ⌐◨-◨

Just give him back the stapler already
I'm wondering how new Farcaster users will get into channels. How can they grow and be seen if they haven't been invited to certain channels because they're completely new here? Any thoughts/tips? Would casting without a channel be powerful enough to help them grow? It could be a great option if it worked that way Should they DM channel owners and moderators to request an invite? I'm asking because I'm constantly trying to onboard new people by encouraging them to join the /london channel here

i never stopped
Maybe to help others.... today I setup @modbot in /purple to use our Purple NFT as the Channel Membership. But then I kicked everyone out of the channel because they were just auto-assigned to the channel and I wanted to make sure only Purple members were in the channels. Well it turns out, kicking someone out of the channel bans them, so I actually banned most of our membership! Big thanks to @haole who helped us unban everyone and now its working correctly. tldr; don't be me! If you remove someone from a channel modbot sees that as a ban (makes sense in retrospect)
EVERYONE has been kicked from the /purplele channel and our moderation tools are setup. If you are a member of Purple please come to the channel and rejoin. Its now gated on our Token.
we stopped being fun
Channels update 1. It was a big change, but overall I think sentiment is net positive across a good chunk of the network 2. The most common frustrations: a. losing access to a favorite channel, esp. if you had a streak in it b. seeing your reply "below the fold" c. older casts in channels disappearing from personal profiles d. many channels not having clear instructions for joining So what we're doing this week 3. Continue to talk to users (mostly me) and pay attention to feedback 4. We're considering some tweaks to how above / below the fold works for non-members, esp. if the original caster is following someone. We won't make any sudden changes here, fwiw 5. Strongly considering adding back older casts in channels to profiles (with a label on the cast). The data is untouched at the protocol level, just hidden on Warpcast right now. 6. Continue to get feedback from channel owners / mods / users / developers on making request to join a channel a primitive similar to invites. Again, no sudden changes.
Quick roll call: Who is NOT going to be at Devcon, NOT going to be at @nounstown.eth LA, but IS going to be curled up in a FOMO-induced fetal position in the corner?
One thing I was wrong about over the last few years: sign up costs would dramatically reduce spam. Turns out spam is a top 3 problem (aside from retention and infrastructure scaling) to solve for when building a permissionless decentralized social networking protocol. Spammers are willing to pay for sign ups at prices that normal users aren't. Spam is also relative: what's spammy for one person is not for another. Corollary: when you talk to developers building on Farcaster, spam is a top of mind issue whereas users giving product feedback but not actively building in the ecosystem tend to think this isn't that big an issue / not that hard a problem to solve. Also a good proxy for the quality of first principles thinking when suggesting "why don't you just do this?" if you haven't considered how would spammers abuse this and what's the solution.
buckle up kids @tayyab just ran a world first import of his LinkedIn social graph into /icebreaker with no API access using zkTLS 🤯 we will be smoothing this flow over the next week or two until you can all run it yourselves as well 😎 ice: broken 🔨

Roll call: Who's going to /devcon?
“progress happens too slowly to notice, but setbacks happen too quickly to ignore.” When people talk about why farcaster is failing I think of this quote from The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel Progress is incremental and you can only barely see inflection points in hindsight. Crashes happen suddenly. Building a house can take months or years. Demolition in days.
Farcaster is the worst designed social network. None of the issues were addressed in the new version. It’s ~$3/yr more expensive than alternatives, and there are no ads. But I still joined because it sufficiently connects me to more quality people. The ecosystem is so powerful.
OK, Banger!
