it's a great bingo it's a great bingo i have to have to look back because i'm not sure he must have right he he absolutely must have and i know one of the things we wanted to chat about today and i want to jump into this is quote cast so just putting a few things up on the screen this was from burpan warp cast should facilitate quote cast recast should also offer a quote cast option more from nicholas quote cast create value in a whole part of that so this is like half of these links that we had pulled for today are about quote casting and about wanting to quote cast and then we do have speaking of revealed preference recasting dan's recasting reply quote tweets fracture the conversation further emphasizes broadcast versus conversation and at its worst it's a dunk button we'll eventually add it but features change behavior so i wanted to like hit on that note from dan but there was a lot of conversation happening around wanting to be able to do like quote tweet a quote cass so what are your thoughts on that i thought that was a really interesting conversation and i hadn't thought about the perspective that dan mentioned until he mentioned it and then i was like that's an interesting point
well in yeah so in the year that i've been around the the co cast comes up a lot yeah particularly people kinda migrating from twitter and it's like wait this is missing and then they ask for it and then there's always a conversation
the conversation probably one of my first requests like 2 seconds in yeah i i think that's exactly what happens
just felt like the conversation this week was a little spicier and more like just some stronger opinions because in the past it's always been we don't know we're seeing this could be could be i also was looking for it i quote caste and i find it valuable if you know who i am i'm like not wanda dunk i don't have much ego or you know but so i was missing it and then the more i've been in the ecosystem without it
do i know there's a direct correlation between lack of quote cast and how earnest and thoughtful discussion is of course not but you can quote cast it's just a little higher friction so oh when i wanna do it okay i can copy a cast i do it all the time and it's it's actually not that hard so the more i think about it and i think about kind of how features impact behavior and i'm more likely to respond to someone's cast and all of a sudden you're not centering yourself so like where a twitter where it's grow your audience

be on your podium look at me listen to what i have to say because i'm so smart i'm not in a rush to bring that to farcaster so i've actually it had kind of came been neutral and i'm moving more towards like i think it's a a feature not a bug the lack of it so
yeah when i saw that his message about that about the changing conversation that it fractions fractures conversation that made me think a little bit because i started thinking about when i quote tweet and and things like that what like yeah okay i can see that a little bit but even if you do it sort of the hard way right where you copy the link over and post it that way there still can be that fracturing of conversation so it's just a matter of like does it make it easier does it i don't know that's you know but you're it's a it's a really good point and i hadn't thought about that yes twitter definitely seems more broadcast like and forecasters more conversation and dialogue so i can see how that might be an issue where we end up fracturing those conversations so it's i don't know i don't know but it's i hadn't thought about that aspect of it before i really was just thinking about the the ease because it's something i like to do and it's something i want to do and it's something that makes it easier and so it's like i really wasn't thinking about the bigger overall effect so i don't know but it was interesting to see it pop up again and i think you're right it relates to we've got more new people it's like oh more new people they're they're asking the same thing and so that's you know that also indicates that it's a continual issue though that you know that we're probably gonna see it again the next wave so
we'll see remains to be seen but it was there was a lot of conversation going on and some of it was very you know basic i want to you know it's wild all this that we don't have it all this kind of thing but then seeing sort of those other comments about maybe we should not have it was was kind of interesting as well so yeah so there's that i also want to shout out and i don't know if i pulled it up where is it yes it is i listened to a little podcast yesterday called 4 old college friends i don't know if you're familiar with it and it was about friendship in our forties so this is the podcast that adrienne's been doing with her college friends and it's actually it was great so i i was listening to it yesterday and i'm like we gotta talk about this because i finally got to it and you had told me a little bit about this conversation but we hadn't i hadn't had a chance to hear it and what's fascinating so do you want to like sum up really quick like what that conversation was it as it relates to farcaster and then i wanna talk about ted's tweet related to this as well or cast related to this as well

i know i'm i know okay i deserve this so 4 old college friends is a podcast i started it i'm actually recording episode 5 today so it's very very new it is the very first podcast i've ever done and it's yeah it's it look i'm mid forties and i'm getting together with college friends that we were like besties in our teens and now kind of like we just wanna fuck around and and talk so the episode we talked about the theme is how do you make friends in your forties like how do you make new friends and you know my friends are talking about friends in their town through their kids parents of this this you know from their kids school and what do you think i talked about
my internet friends farcaster and it's not just internet friends i mean it was farcaster and i've been here for a year
and it's
truly truly genuine it's it's farcaster is meeting my social needs not all right but but a lot of them i love you all it's just so rich and fulfilling so if you do i mean it's like don't listen to the whole podcast people who are listening but if you wanna hear me like i thought it was talk about broadcaster i think it's like minute 16 and i talk about how much i love you and and then my friends respond because they think i'm crazy
that was the part that was fascinating so to hear like your friends' responses at first i mean they got a little bit more supportive but the first part of just like kind of this like that's so weird like you have friends on the internet that you've never met like and you just made you made these friends on the internet and it's like it sounded so boomer ish for folks who aren't right so it was kind of it was funny and i and i started to think about it but it's exactly why i have such a hard time explaining my life to my irl friends and like explaining like what are you doing you know like where why aren't you out doing this or that or the other thing and it's like i would rather hang out with these people like like i'm sorry what you're getting up at what time in the morning to talk to your friend on the internet about other friends on the internet yes that's that's what i'm doing it sounds weird but it really isn't and it's so i love that you mentioned like your social needs are being met and that was a great way to put it because that's how i feel as well is like i have this group of friends they exist all over the world they are fascinating we have common interests and it's just a really enjoyable friendship but it's it's really hard to explain so i was loving that conversation that you were having with your friends was just hilarious to me and then it really related to ted ted said something very similar and we hadn't gotten to it it was about a week ago and i'd put it in show notes but we hadn't we hadn't gotten to it and he and she said reactions when i tell people i have internet friends high nonlinear range from scoff to laughter truth is my farcaster friendships grew from trust filled over 100 of interactions in a place where freedom of expression and thought is encouraged where online and offline selves can and should be continuous and i loved that sentiment it was it really kind of spoke to me because that's the other thing you know when when people talk about our magic internet money and it's not real you know like it is real and it's the same thing with the magic internet friends they are also i have met them i have seen them i have talked to them i have seen them in real life you know they are real people and they're pretty amazing so you included
yes and they're at different levels i mean there are people who i or who are completely anon right i don't know who they are you know i only see them through pfp and and words i've never seen face i've never don't know name i don't know their voice but you do know you know them and you know their spirit and their soul and they make you feel good and they you know you learn from them so i and then and then of course then then there's people we meet on on zooms in chats and then of course in real life and i'm visiting los angeles next week shout out la casters and speaking of ted's gonna help me organize a little happy hour
oh fun in la fantastic that's amazing i am so jealous that you're gonna be meeting up with everybody in la like i get so much fomo i professor just came up with our new tagline wake up early to talk to internet friends about other internet friends yes that's our new tagline there we go in by shoney so it's just funny it's just it just is it feels so natural to me and it feels especially now and it feels like it's such a good fit in my life that i don't really think about it but it's really was so fun to hear you talking to your friends about it and just knowing that i've had such similar conversations and also have avoided a lot of those conversations because i knew that was going to be the reaction and it's just hard to like how do you even so it's yeah it's been it's fascinating so i really love that and i love the podcast if you're a mom too in your in your in your 40s or any age really it was really a fun a fun chat to hear your friends friends talking and to know that you have these friendships after decades which is nice i do as well

so yeah by the way just what do you think of it so incredibly thoughtful and i don't know if you've read some of his writings he writes like really long thoughtful pieces and this is something that he's been thinking about for some time which is how can you layer nuance into the internet and he says you know like you'll scroll twitter and someone will make a statement and you just assume they believe that
right
but a lot of us are kind of like figuring things out we're using the internet as a place to kind of hash out our thoughts so he's been trying to play with how do you get that across that i don't know this is not something i believe with with veracity and all my force it's something it's a theory and and work that out so i i'm interested in interesting and i'm interested
to see more yeah i'm interested to see this this this play out and so i was like yeah i'll jump in because i want to understand and he did a video which definitely helped because i was like what do you mean i had to look at the video and i'm like oh okay i kinda get it but i still need to see it i think in practice so i'm really interested to try that out and for us to like talk about you know what we what we learn what we see there and and how it's working so did you jump in there too yeah i think you jumped in there too as well
