so let's talk about what is let's start from the basics what is creatordao and what inspired the founding of this new project whoever wants to take that who wants to go first
yeah i can probably take that so maybe i'll start with the second question which is that what inspired this project so i've been a content creator pretty much on all web two platforms video creator for since 2011 over the course of a few years i was able to build multiple viral youtube channels with 4,000,000 subscribers over a billion organic views and yeah after that i i create started a company that went through y combinator and also that taught people how to go viral on youtube so i've just been in the youtube social media space for a very very long time the way that i was teaching people was that i was selling a course and they would buy that course and then they would learn how to go viral a lot of success stories including iraq who has 15,000,000 on youtube the icing artist who bakes cakes decorates cakes and has 4,000,000 5,000,000 on youtube sometimes i lose count and then sandy colby who have 14,000,000 on youtube so i've kind of really been in that space and and what i realized is that selling a course for a one time fee doesn't really capture the true upside of everything and it was actually really hard to figure out how to capture that upside because well actually sorry just to rewind that course about i wanna say 20,000 people went through it maybe 25,000 and looking back last week i think we created about 30 millionaires so that's where the upside is right

yeah and and i i was thinking about for the past few years like how do you actually capture that upside and the world of web three is just kind of like the perfect way to do that and so that's kind of where creator dao came from which is being able to create a system where you can get the upside long term of these creators and have reward systems where they can help new creators as well so going to your first question of what creator dao is i would think of it like a shark tank for creators so you know we invest in up and coming content creators we're starting with the world of youtube because monetization is the easiest predict but we're very quickly going to go to all the web two platforms and web three as well and so we invest in these creators we take a percentage of their income and in that time that in the you know in in the time that we we we have a percentage of their income we help them with everything from content strategy to collaborations with bigger creators to operational help hiring editing thumbnails like all that stuff and the goal here is that you know everything that we make from their from the percentage that we take of their revenue we put it back into the treasury and and yeah we we we grow the treasury that way so the the the cool part about this is that unlike shark tank where you have you know five billionaires millionaires picking who they want to invest in our dao members actually pick pick who we invest in and the reason that we do that is because it's actually really hard to predict content the example i've been using recently is that nathan and michael actually really love watching marble racing it's literally a guy who builds an obstacle course and races like a yellow marble and a green marble versus each other i don't
i haven't heard about this like how isn't there betting and stuff too like is there just thing
it's it's a great ecosystem marble olympics are incredible
yeah like i literally heard about people like talking about this that this is like a whole thing that's so cool
i watched that and i was like i don't really get it i would never get money on this like i mean like invest in this there's no way this is gonna make money and it it just goes to show that like for something that's boring for one person can be can be fascinating and super addicting for millions of people that channel has like 5,000,000 subscribers i think
wow well i was just thinking when you're talking about the cake decorating thing that is like not my thing at all but every time i come across a video like that i can't look away because it is so interesting especially when they're using like a spinning thing and they're doing all and it's like wow this is really fascinating but it's really not something you would think would be something that would pop off right you think of it as like a very niche type of audience but it's not and i think the marble racing is in the same vein
yeah there's there's there's a guy that has that that he he does a lot of stuff now but he started out going viral just kind of raising ant farms and i was like oh okay so people actually watch this so yeah anyway my my my my point is it's it's just really hard to predict winners in content if it's just like an individual expert but our belief is you know it's called wisdom of the crowd where a large group of individuals will be just more accurate in their predictions in this particular case
that's a really fascinating use of a dao i really do because i i think you're right i think you're right the more voices that you have sort of picking the winner i think the better chances you'll pick them correctly so that's i think that's a really interesting approach for sure
yeah yeah and i i think there's also something to be said too about you know if there's a small group of people let's just say there's you know a 100,000 people there's probably some way where we could use variation of quadratic voting where if 10,000 people said i really really really like this person then that will you know that that should have some some weight over the fact that there's only 10% of people who are are interested in this so yeah a lot of really cool mechanics we can use utilizing web three
so okay so you are launching the creator token tomorrow correct and that's what's going to allow for folks to join this dao and have a say is that my correct understanding okay so where should folks look for that when it launches tomorrow is that gonna be available on the website are you launching to you know is it gonna be available everywhere on the decks etcetera like how is that all working tomorrow or is it just the just the allow list
i can jump in here i'm actually the founder district or the launchpad that's backing this and we're using our white list system to do and it's basically based on a lot of the contributions that people have made like we we track contributions across chain and so on day one is the white list i don't know if nathan can share the link after this but yeah we're using a white list system

no one's gonna be with us besides all the people that we're gonna release it to later today so what in terms of like mechanics and where your like voting is happening and things like that is that occurring in discord is it incurring in snapshot are you using something custom like where is sort of the activity happening for once everything launches
it's using our custom software so we're actually a next generation launchpad i think we might be the only increase in back launchpad and category been stealth for a couple years now we're finally launching with actually created down so one of the cool things is most things that use governance they are actually using some variation of snapshot we use on chain governance we sometimes use snapshot to sort of do a temperature gauge but it is i think one of the few that's on chain i think nouns is one of the few dows have built that also on chain and actually executes a smart contract
good so i didn't have to say it good alright
i noticed that and that stuff i have i'm literally tonight talking to one of the early dows and nouns dao actually later tonight

don't know but i'm excited it's it's one of the things that elon elon like when we look at we're like that's a true dao there's a lot of not real daos on the market today if you actually look at the software that powers it
yeah and i think that's something that a lot of folks may not understand which i i really appreciate that you do is that a lot of things that are called daos are really just it could be a group chat and it's it's usually like five voters and even within the nouns ecosystem like it you have moments of capture where you know you get a large voting block that kinda takes over but it is an actual dao that there is you know a lot of debate that happens a lot of discussions that happen a high percentage of voting a lot of daos you have like 5% something like that generally in naos you have 30 plus so i definitely would say you know strive for that kind of activity and i think it'll just make it such a better experience for everybody if there's incentives for people to vote to dive in to actually support these creators it'll be a much more fun experience and they'll feel invested too like they're they have a a say so i think this is very cool it's a really cool experiment how do folks if they're creators how do they get involved
yeah with the creator side so as i said the for the first season we're taking youtube creators first second maybe third season we'll open it up to you know a lot more platforms but how they get involved is they apply through the website there's an application or apply for an investment and the only criteria here is that they have created at least two videos per month on youtube for the last twelve months and the reason we do that is because the number one indicator of success is persistence and consistency you know if mister beast took six years of creating content until he made a full time living and so i think if you've proven to be consistent even if you suck at making content at right now you will you like my belief is anybody can get good at doing it
so one of our favorite things was to do the shitty version so gary tan who's the at y combinator is the head of y combinator i don't know what they call me director whatever

resident i'm not exactly sure what his title is now he did an ama yeah yeah he did an ama on on farcaster a while back and one of the things he said was exactly that consistency but also just do it just do it take the action and even if it's shitty you just keep improving and then incrementally gets better over time so i love that we take that advice to heart and we do the shit we continue to do the shitty version 270 episodes later so there we go
yeah absolutely you know gary tan in initialize capital is actually an investor in creatordao and i think he was talking to michael about how the the similarities between creators and founders of startups is like there there there's just a lot of similarities and and it's like you said one of them is you know in startup lands they always say it takes ten years to to find product market fit in the content side i'd say it probably takes around like three to six but yeah you're absolutely right like you just have to kind of grind it out you keep learning you keep iterating you keep getting better and the at at some point at least for the content side you will figure it out i think startup side is a little bit tougher but yeah on the content side you know if you have the skills to do it like you're gonna succeed

i'm on base in zuora and i think one of the things one of the inspired things is i think creators are gonna show up everywhere i think youtube is kong's strong point but someday creatordao should be the largest investor content across the world and that means zoor creators farcaster creators twitter creators like everything will move on chain and the cool thing is content should be owned by daos it just makes total sense content should not belong to old media it should belong to us on this tech it should belong to a community and it's an asset that actually benefits from dao ownership you're gonna watch you consume content a lot more on it but i've been a big fan of zorra like i'm i don't can you can slowly see it going now but i was just talking to folks that do some of the economics behind it so it's been pretty cool dan actually went to college with my sister so last time i saw the music

he when he first launched i like signed up and i was like i don't know not my thing kinda tried it left but what drew me back was definitely like frames i think that is something that's incredibly unique because at first it was like alright you know another social media that's similar twitter vibes but just not as big you know the 37 users or whatever the joke is with that number

yeah once frames launched i think this is the potential of what it is and what it's already becoming is just like very clearly seen and that like next layer of interactiveness that's directly tied to your wallet and like your login now with base like you have like a unified identity that is like grounded in your social media and then expanded out to like really anything like the the frames that are being launched are truly just like anything and everything and so i think that is that's something that's really really exciting and that we're we're very interested to dive into with creator down i think there's a lot of opportunity i'm not gonna drop any alpha on that yet but we're definitely looking into that direction i think there's a lot of a lot lot of really cool stuff that'll be happening so we love farcaster super excited to to be on there and really impressed with the results that we've seen already so thanks to the farcaster community

i think i think one of the things that you know we we we haven't talked about this much but like one of the things that we really wanna do is to bring all these web two creators into the web three platforms like it's like it's like nathan said there's just so many cool things that you're just not able to do on the on the web two side and and for for the youtube creators specifically it's actually really really easy to repurpose content to put on something like farcaster and and it's you know it's it's a way to get them in without a ton of upfront work because if it's like okay now we want you to live stream this is a that's a completely different thing right we're gonna have to put in hours to to make that happen but i think to repurpose content that's a probably a really good gateway to get them in and once they get in hopefully they start making more and more original content for the platform as well
i think that's a oh oh sorry i was just gonna say i think that's that's a huge opportunity you're right and because they're already creating the content it's if you're able to take those clips take those shorts and pop them on the base app and then somebody's collecting them as a coin on zuora or collecting it as an nft on farcaster you're earning right away so even if you're waiting a little bit like even if you're not seeing as as quicker results on youtube and that might take a little bit more time you can at least be like seeing some activity from your you know and some some kind of appreciate reward for what you're doing and we've even seen that with there was somebody who is in like the crypto twitter world who had this sort of viral post that went you know years ago and she was able to repurpose that on the base app and actually made you know some money from it where she made zero before so there's a lot of little interesting opportunities for for some funding there nathan sorry i didn't mean to cut you off there what were you gonna say
you're good yeah i was just saying even from the the web two side of users like we definitely wanna onboard like fans right people who just love watching youtube let's say they're one of their favorite youtubers is now joining creatordao like we want them to be able to lift their fan base on chain right and i think before it's like yeah we'll probably have to figure out something a bit more custom but as of right now you can just get the base app and it's right there you know you're onboarded you're on chain you have everything you need to now participate in the dao i think that onboarding process is like something we were talking about like a month or two ago of like yeah we'll need to figure that out and it's kinda done right like now it's easier than it's ever been and and we can just like lift the users like tomorrow if they're out of beta you know so that's really exciting i think that's what blows this up to the true vision of what we have for creatordao is yeah we want web three degens and natives on there but we want this for the whole world right we want anybody and everyone to participate in creator dao we want anyone who scrolls on social media enjoys watching youtube channels to be a part of creator now and influencing the content that they love so it's now easier than ever and that's a huge shout out and thanks to the incredible work being done

it's okay another question about the vision for creatordao when you guys talk about and it was pretty clear like what the old model is in terms of youtube and monetization and kung when you're describing like made perfect sense of like you you can help people launch and they can you know you can charge for the education content but then once they're launched there's no way to capture any of that upside and kind of you're investing early on i thought that was really cool but when you say kind of web using web three tooling and web three better for creators i'm just curious if you could talk a little i'm just what does that mean specifically in your point of view like how do you see and and i think there's many ways to monetize prav and i from for our show monetize different ways as well but like do you have a specific vision for your create for youtube creators for how to monetize in web three or is it gonna be dependent based on like what the different channels are or or creators
yeah i i i can give you one example and maybe nathan if you wanna jump in for some of the other ideas we have but i think one way to to do this that again i i think one of the biggest things web three allows is to align incentives right so one thing we could potentially do here or one thing we will definitely do here is when the creators get an investment they will get creator dao tokens which makes the members of the dao because they're members of the dao they have a vested interest in continuing to help us grow right and our goal here is to let's just say we we have a batch of of creators that we invest in they become successful some number of them become millionaires now instead of just kind of going off on their own and doing their own thing they're actually incentivized to to come back and help the new batch of of creators coming in so imagine if let's just say the icing artist who does cake decorations comes back and helps someone who's doing like a baking or a cooking channel and then gets her 5,000,000 subscriber audience to then go to to to subscribe to this new creator who only has a 100 subscribers and then she now also gets the upside of the person that she collaborated with too so the mechanics of that we're still working out all of the kinks because it you know i i there's there's there's some legal ramifications that we have to work through
but i'm just thinking that yeah yeah but
but that that is the end goal here is that you you know you align incentives so that these big creators that go through the program come back to help the smaller creators and then vice versa and then it just or i guess not vice versa but it keeps going and it keeps looping until you know hopefully say

and early on we realized we do a live stream so people come in we're live right now obviously and then early on we realized we put everything as a record like we reupload our live stream as a video because which duplicates the content we're not really editing our livestream but we found like it was necessary to duplicate so you have like a stream of videos which are just like the livestream and then and the videos do you have an opinion on one is that the right best practice for live streamers
i think there so there's people who do it both ways so generally speaking i don't know anyone who keeps the live up and and then also re uploads the same thing i would either choose to private the live or or make it unlisted and then re upload or keep the live and then use the videos as your

yeah yeah so but yeah having both might be a little confusing for the user and the algorithm too
i think the users like we yeah like on our page we really show the videos like and we we use playlist for our pod like as a podcast so i think people get it i don't even know i think we even took off the live from the homepage
