MTV was a cultural institution that changed music, fashion, and youth culture. Then they stopped showing music videos and became reality TV. I felt a wave of sadness when the announcement hit. Nothing felt like it could fill that void. So I started coding.

One of the reasons I can never quite think of anything when someone asks the "what would you tell your 18-yo self?" question is that I believe the process of making mistakes and then correcting is how we actually learn and develop. Let's take overthinking for example. I'd be willing to be that those of us spending a lot of time in a word-based social network have suffered from this more than the average person. What you develop in the process of overthinking, even when it goes too far, is: a sharp eye micro details; a keen instinct for macro patterns; a rich language; an active imagination. These are all very real, valuable things, which can enrich your actions. But at some point we do need to learn to act with the proper pace. It is challenging, but being sick of watching less insightful people shape the world is the proper motivation. If you were always inclined to act first, think later, you will also develop your own great skills: the confidence that comes from knowing you can not only succeed, but figure out failures; the instant leadership authority that comes from this confidence; and a highly developed network, since nothing builds trust more than actually doing things together. But "overacting" can likewise lead you to underdevelop the parts of you that get activated during overthinking. You watch people being right about the big picture more often than you, or from sweating details that you didn't, and how it ultimately burns you and elevates them. If you don't want to rely on a counselor, you need to learn how to self-reflect and think more deeply. A happy and successful life blends these two abilities, and they get blended not bc someone told us a phrase, but bc leaning too far in one direction for too long made us really suffer, and we knew that only the medicine of the opposite way could fix us. This is the way to balance yourself with conviction. So the only advice I would have for any person (18 or otherwise) is: It is never too late to change yourself... The best parts of your self will come along for the ride.

Welcome to 2026! Milady is back. Ethereum did a lot in 2025: gas limits increased, blob count increased, node software quality improved, zkEVMs blasted through their performance milestones, and with zkEVMs and PeerDAS ethereum made its largest step toward being a fundamentally new and more powerful kind of blockchain (more on this later) But we have a challenge: Ethereum needs to do more to meet its own stated goals. Not the quest of "winning the next meta" regardless of whether it's tokenized dollars or political memecoins, not arbitrarily convincing people to help us fill up blockspace to make ETH ultrasound again, but the mission: To build the world computer that serves as a central infrastructure piece of a more free and open internet. We're building decentralized applications. Applications that run without fraud, censorship or third-party interference. Applications that pass the walkaway test: they keep running even if the original developers disappear. Applications where if you're a user, you don't even notice if Cloudflare goes down - or even if all of Cloudflare gets hacked by North Korea. Applications whose stability transcends the rise and fall of companies, ideologies and political parties. And applications that protect your privacy. All this - for finance, and also for identity, governance and whatever other civilizational infrastructure people want to build. These properties sound radical, but we must remember that a generation ago any wallet, kitchen appliance, book or car would fulfill every single one of them. Today, all of the above are by default becoming subscription services, consigning you to permanent dependence on some centralized overlord. Ethereum is the rebellion against this. To achieve this, it needs to be (i) usable, and usable at scale, and (ii) actually decentralized. This needs to happen at both (a) the blockchain layer, including the software we use to run and talk to the blockchain, and (b) the application layer. All of these pieces must be improved - they are already being improved, but they must be improved more. Fortunately, we have powerful tools on our side - but we need to apply them, and we will. Dear Farcaster, For me, I'm sure I will always look back on 2025 as the Year of Bracky. (I didn't know that would be the case actually. Bracky was conceived on Dec 31, 2024 and shipped on Jan 11, 2025. Phewwww.) It has been really fun building this product out together over the years, with Farcaster(s) at the very center of what we're doing. Farcaster's sincere combination of social space + builder culture/tools has pulled a product out of us that I believe is going to make a mark on the world. It's social, it's unexpected, it's exciting, it's positive sum, and it's just getting started.
