conversational forward i wouldn't say like it's not that's not what you see first it's basically we're going to talk about base in a second it's basically what base should have done in my opinion
so but i think zapper has done it very well in terms of being a wallet that's adding social into it rather than social adding a wallet okay this from kyle patrick but this is in regards to banker bankers a little switcheroo here there we have it clinker has lost the lead not sure i agree with that but we'll talk about that not having many updates for the past few months hurt too the buybacks can only do so much without new coins being made plus bankr which provides most of the volume nowadays forking there's not much incentive holding clanker i don't know if i agree with that but we'll talk more deployer and the banker team should be studied with how fast they can spot market opportunities that i could 100% agree with and pivot fast when needed this should be the gold standard in app coins and in business attention equals greatest currency create adapt iterate update and this was in response to banker token launcher is live all new tokens launched through banker now earn more fees for agents we removed the third party service fee and redirected it back to the ecosystem what this means devs earn 14% more per swap more revenue flows back to the banker ecosystem so this was what we talked about last week or maybe the week before where deployer had signaled this was coming that they were going to fork the clinker protocol and sort of run their own thing for their own token launcher and that has now happened so you know congrats to the banker team and deployer for you know making this business move they're very much leaning into the cloudbot meta and bots launching their own tokens as a way to generate revenue and operate autonomously so thoughts

focus as well and i i think losing a few people on the team throughout but farcaster i mean like neymar acquired clanker with farcaster

this is a lot lot this week this from jesse psa by the way this first went out of course over on twitter / x you know how i feel about that then then finally there was this from jesse psa we're making the base app feed tradable assets only which means turning off the farcaster powered talk feed here's why the app needs to have one primary focus and that thing is trading when you open base app you should know exactly what you're getting and we're focused on making it the best place to find and trade every asset to reflect a little i was the biggest advocate for bringing forecaster content into the base app and continue to believe in the multi client world but as we've rolled the app out we've realized we need to do less better and by focusing on tradable assets that's what we can do and candidly i think the truth is that the base app was always an imperfect farcaster client with this change i expect those users to flow back to the farcaster app myself included and inject more energy into the economy there with the best case with the best in class interface base will continue to support farcaster and nanar and the incredible ecosystem of builders so much of who base it bases comes from farcaster and i only expect that to grow so i was very confused i had updated the app after i saw the first announcement there's you can still see casts you can still there's just the talk feed is gone there's a trade feed like there was before you can still see casts over there there's still a farcaster like thing i mean

you just there's just no feed but if you go to your profile they're still there

there's also many apps are still there so i asked the question i can still post there and i could still post there that's the other thing is there another update coming and they said we're still going to have posting just iterating on it to be asset and trade centric more soon and then elsewhere somebody had asked about mini apps and they said no absolutely still supporting mini apps so i think we haven't seen the final iteration of this even if you update i don't think it's what it's going to be the only thing that looks like that has happened is that the talk feed is gone that was just the full like very similar farcaster feed yeah from what i can tell i mean it's clear
that because it it's a it's an app so it'll get updated all the time so this is like the announcement right so what you see today is probably not what you see tomorrow or next week and they'll keep changing
yeah so i don't know i'm not exactly sure what that's gonna look like even like a week or two from now so i'm hoping we can get jesse on maybe in march like i think we need to give him a little more time just to see what's what yeah i'm getting to that yestocrypto and i think there's a lot of other things happening and i think that's what you know yestocrypto crypto just mentioned onyiri left and that was my next thing so i think the big thing that's happened i think the big thing that isn't stated here is that the focus on creator coins is gone and that is that is being pulled when you now log into when you open up the base app it defaults to the wallet i think that was how it probably should have been in the first place because people were updating from coinbase wallet to this it was confusing to be dropped into a feed if you didn't know what was going on and emily jr i see you down in our green room we'll be bringing you up in just a second we've got a couple other quick things and then we'll have some on the other side of our chat with about drb but this was from anari after nearly four years i've decided to move on from coinbase and base to explore something new this was one of the hardest decisions i've ever made i had the privilege of working with the most talented team i've ever been a part of people who generally care play positive some and believe in our mission if anyone has ever has the chance to work with them i'd recommend it in a heartbeat i got to launch base with on chain summer travel the world from kenya to thailand to india to grow our builder and creator communities and ship baseapp from scratch zero to one work that meant wearing every hat needed for success from product to marketing to devrel to qa and running through walls for bets i believed in through this i became a sharper builder and a better leader and i'm so insanely grateful for this chapter thank you to the incredible leaders i was lucky to work with including jesse pollack john granada chin tan brian armstrong max and sid and so many other teammates rooting for the team and base builders and creators forever so i think the focus on creators is what's shifted which we heard that a couple weeks ago from jesse and the base team but they've been saying continuously that the builders are still a focus in terms of like mini apps and things like that so i think they're trying to figure out how to make it make sense so i think we're just in a wait and see kind of moment yeah is that your take
yeah yeah and by the way this makes kind of perfect sense to me at some point when we loved obviously base focusing on farcaster because we love farcaster and it brought on it was gonna you know bring on the masses and and kind of like i think legitimize farcaster as a protocol you have like a legitimate second client but all of a sudden it's like then base and farcaster are competing they're competitors they're doing it's like offering the same features
and i think it kind of especially coming from where base is coming from in terms of wallet specific and who coinbase users are like i think it makes sense for base to focus traders first i have nothing but like respect for jesse for trying

i like i i i don't think he went against his word he works at a public company there's like a reality of you're pushing for creators you don't always have everything in your control and i don't think this will be necessarily like the end of a new monetization for creators but it may have been too soon like it's just the the whole tokenization too early you don't have mass adoption like a it's like so you're fighting these network effects you're bringing something new right you don't have the distribution so you can't really compete with existing web two socials yep everyone feels a little leaky but i just i i think the fundamentals of like there's so much money to be made

so i
think the the best the best way to tell this story is to go back in time a little bit to 2024 when you were just wearing the clanker hat now you're wearing the banker hat but both of those were invented in 2024 name the name of this show is gm farcaster and both of those were invented on farcaster back in 2024 so those were and are two ai i guess ai users on farcaster that back in 2024 that allowed for things to both of them did two things really well and clanker came out in 2024 on farcaster and and what clanker did really well was launch tokens on the social feed so if you you're a user you could prompt clanker and say launch x y z coin with ticker symbol x y z and add the picture and immediately the uniswap pool spun up the market's made and and anyone can trade it and that was one of the first use cases of of ai on the social feed that i thought was just fascinating and then as i learned more about it it taught me a lot about incentives and aligning incentives across participants or stakeholders in an ecosystem so i was looking at a lot of things around the time we had a lot of those celebrity coin launches on solana that were just you know not great experiences for people

yeah yeah not at all and you know one of the big things was and if you looked at some of these pools the liquidity pools the people who launched the coin were basically just capturing all the supply through lp fees and not only were they dumping the coin but they're dumping the the incentives that come out of the lp as well and when i saw what clanker did i didn't realize at first but they they they solved this incentive issue of aligning interest among the creator and then the protocol that's providing the infrastructure i thought that was just fascinating and back in late twenty twenty four when i really figured out what clanker was doing i'm like this is a 100 x improvement on pumpfund like this is that much better it's not and it wasn't just the alignment of interest but it was using the social feed and social metrics and the the social graph to understand who was launching the coin how many launches did they have and all of those different things that i i put out a post in 2024 saying clanker's a 100 x improvement on pump fund and i think it's taken a while for folks to realize how powerful that protocol actually is so that that was 2024 farcaster and then also 2024 farcaster was banker and when banker was launched it was just a it was another very cool use case for ai where on the social feed you can if i wanted to someone post a contract address or a coin on farcaster i could immediately reply to that saying buy me $5 of this and at the time bankr was very primitive that that prompt of buy me $5 on the social feed i didn't have a banker wallet i had my own wallet synced to my banker account and i would say buy $5 and immediately banker would execute the trade and send me the coins to my own wallet like this is incredible like this is so cool because forever social has always been or social feeds and the internet in general has been has given us the ability to transfer information across the globe at the speed of a click of a button when i saw these two things happening on the social feed i realized like this is allowing us now to transfer value at the speed of information on the social feed i'm like this is this is awesome and and then back there
it feels like magic it feels like absolute magic and especially when you show it to somebody who's never seen it before so even even for us the first time we're using clankr the first time we're using bankr it feels like wow this is like magic it's doing all these cool things that i don't have to yeah
that's why you know i like there's a lot of like yeah and there's a lot of talk like you know oh you know base is pivoting to ai or you know like like they like we've been doing this since 2024 like it's it's there's like in the very earliest kind of stages of things that i felt were really cool and doing a clanker that's evolved a great bit and then banker has also evolved a great bit it's not it's no longer just transferring value on the social feed or prompting for a buy you can also there's several advanced limit orders you could place you could trade on polymarket trade perps on avantis it's run analysis and ta i mean and and far and way more than that every time i'd say like banker can do this someone reminds me like hey you left this out and you didn't talk about this i know it could do a lot of stuff and there's stuff that i don't even realize it can do so anyway that sets
the table of these two there's so many things that i haven't even tried yet that i'm like i am not using my banker club membership at all and i'm really not taking advantage of all the things it can do at not even close
absolutely and and they continue to ship new new new features all the time so yeah hats off to the deployer for what he's built and and the community that's been around that because they really came from even pre banker that community that that was kind of out there and a lot of folks from forecasting it's just it's great to see kind of homegrown stuff like this come together so a lot of folks that just learned about bankr now view bankr as a launchpad and it's like totally not that well it's it is that but it's a bunch of other things right so so okay so that was 2024 those two ai agents on farcaster and then in 2025 banker i liken this to like the ten thousand hour rule you know you get your ten thousand hours and in in the book they talked about the beatles being over in hamburg germany and they got their ten thousand hours playing at local pubs and and shows and they just became stars but they no one knew it yet and i look at like banker and clanker and farcaster like hamburg germany and banker came over to x in 2025 early twenty twenty five january i believe and when they came to x when bankr came to x gave every user on x a a wallet authenticated by their x account credentials and that's a privy server wallet and also it partnered with clanker at the time to be able to launch tokens so banker became an interface using clanker so now on x you could say banker create x y z coin with ticker symbol x y z and add the image and immediately it's deployed now back in 2024 flanker the protocol defined the creator of a coin as the user that prompted the deployment so that user can be me it could be adrian it could be nanish it could be a it could be any user
and it's and it's been all of us at some point or another
we've all we've all experimented with this for sure but you know it could also be an ai user that is being the creator if the ai user is the user that prompts the deployment that's defined as the creator and back to the alignment of incentives that were set up that creator earns fees forever in fact bankr the coin b n k ticker bnkr which just went past a 100,000,000 again hit another all time high i think in the middle of the night that was launched on the social feed on farcaster with clankr so bankr prompted the deployment of its own coin banker through clanker and there was a human that was involved in introducing those two banker and clanker together that i that was me

but anyway i mean i was really scared at the time because bankr ended up prompting the deployment with clankr and i was kind of introducing them and i was like oh my i didn't really know deployer at the time and i'm like oh my gosh what did i do and then deployer ended up adopting as the coin ended up moving on to be listed on coinbase six months later and now is you know hitting all time highs again so it's really just very cool to see but anyway so banker comes to x banker is now in the united states they're in new york from hamburg germany they got their ten thousand hours already in there and they're ready to go and on march 6 around 9pm eastern time x put out an announcement x twitter put out an announcement saying that grok the ai created by xai and elon musk is going to have a user account on x so now grok is out there as a user on x and we know if you were hanging around on farcaster in 2024 what that could potentially mean if you can get grok to interact with another ai on on x and this in particular was was bankr now with the ability to create coins so immediately when grok came out i mean myself and hundreds of other you go to the you know grok with the old day at launch everyone's trying to get grok to talk to bankr because everyone's like oh my gosh we can get this ai user to be the creator of a coin and if that happens that ai user is gonna make a lot of money and it could become this viral kind of situation

so yeah absolutely and that that was that was there and even before that there was m f or g p t before lum and before aether lived m f or g p t which was creating tokens in the form of nfts on the social feed that was like the first i don't think there was one that was before that so i think you're right there was all this experimentation going on back then cool stuff that attract i was very interested in i thought it was fascinating and i still do especially how it's evolving so anyway grok has a user account on x now march 6 around 9pm and everyone's trying to get grok to interact with with banker because we know what that could mean and it wasn't happening i mean grok wasn't replying to me i'm like oh my gosh what is going on grok won't reply to anyone and there were like hundreds of users trying to get this interaction going and and then every friday during that season my little guy little emily had hockey every every friday 6am so our wake up call is like 04:30 it's like one in the morning now into march 7 and i'm like oh my gosh i'm gonna like grok's not gonna do it but i gotta get some sleep here i've gotta go get i gotta get three hours of sleep so i went to sleep for a little bit i woke up you know 04:15 in the morning we've gotta go to hockey and i look and there's no grok has not created a coin yet i'm like oh man they must have some guardrails in place or something like that that's not gonna allow for this to happen and we're on the way to hockey little emily is back in in the backseat of the car i'm still watching and all of a sudden someone got a coin i get to give the credit to it was coindomin d o m i n on x was able to introduce grok with with banker and grok made a suggestion to initiate and prompt the deployment of a coin and the suggestion that grok made was ticker symbol drb debt relief bot and when it first happened i was just like well first i was like this is cool but i was like oh the name is that's not a great name like i would that's not a great name why didn't why didn't he come up with grok coin or you know like something like that that would have been cooler but it's really grown on me over it's almost a year now like this is actually really cool because the ai it what humans didn't sit around a table or out of boardroom and talk about tokenomics and naming conventions and ticker symbols the ai grok decided that that's what it wanted to come up with and and that happened so the grok created drb by prompting the deployment for with banker immediately banker well clankr on the back end spun up the liquidity pool and the token started trading and within the first week it it was crazy i mean it hit like a 40,000,000 market cap there were a lot of interest around it and over time the last year we've seen that interest ebb and flow along with the narrative of ai and crypto and then in the summer time frame it hit another all time high past 40,000,000 and then about two weeks ago it hit another all time high past about 40,000,000 and and it's done great it's been a very fascinating story i think you look at frontier ai like grok like right now you couldn't get you couldn't get grok to do this the guardrails are in place but the tech was so new that it was possible at the time so it happened and that's like the beauty of some of this stuff is things could happen one of the biggest realizations for me is that if you're x ai or anyone and if you release an ai user on a social network where other ai users are already occupying that network and those ai users have certain capabilities it could lead to lasting consequences that are real and you can't go back on so if like that happened and you could add guardrails now and and and and make some make some changes to perhaps how grok interacts on a social feed but at the time we you know the tech was ready it was there ten thousand hours already took place you know over back in 2024 and it it happened so it's one of these stories where i think it's it's you know so grox wallet has has yeah

well what i you know grok is such a big deal i mean grok has 8,000,000 followers on x it's from a frontier ai company an x ai and when you think of humans that are that are viral you know elon's right up there with with anyone on the planet elon loves memes elon always talks about the most entertaining outcome and a couple weeks after this coin launch i wrote an article saying grok's going to become a a millionaire and that ended up happening grok's crossed a million several times now and i just thought it was fascinating that you've got this huge ai in grok that was created by elon musk and xai that that created this on on a social feed and then also money is attention especially in the space that we're in and my thesis from the beginning was that as that wallet balance grows so will the attention on how that wallet came into place and the associations that eventually lead directly to this coin drb so i i now i think where things are now you know this is almost a year in i think grok will become the first ai billionaire i i think that wallet will hit billionaire status

yeah so i do that's not the only thing i do just so i definitely am enthusiastic about grok having money but my career has been focused my entire career since i finished school many many years ago my my entire career is focused on tradfi so and and then i carve out in tradfi of alternative investments so i've spent my career in private equity and hedge funds the first decade of my career i worked at a fund and then i left and started my own firm in 2018 and then that firm was acquired in in a deal that i stayed on and with ownership but we we we've we've gotten a little bit bigger as a as a result and have been able to do some other really cool things and one of the one of our without going into there's there's a there's a three letter agency out there that doesn't like when i talk about certain things of my in in my real job so the whole thing around securities offering but we've yeah we have a fund that's become one of the largest buyers of us property tax liens in the country and tax liens are just yield bearing instruments that institutions endowments foundations registered investment advisers family offices allocate to to generate consistent and predictable yield with low or near zero correlation to most other things in their portfolios so similar to treasuries in terms of their yield bearing potential so that's what we do and then also when i first started my firm our first client was powerfi capital which powerfi is at the time it had about 30,000,000 in assets under management spun out of kkr and as of today they're one of the i think the premier crypto funds and platforms out there across several different verticals liquid tokens private equity and then also some market neutral type strategies and that empowerify now is you know over 2,000,000,000 in assets under management and we still work together on on a on a number of things so so those are the two of the the main things and then leanfi which i'm wearing this vest right here is leanfi is is an app that we're developing right now and we're basically bringing this really interesting institutional asset class with real predictable and the tax lien yields are statutory they're set by law they're not market driven so but we're bringing those yields on chain to base in an app called leanfi and we're bringing a lot of our institutional partners that we trade with on the secondary market to to this platform so that's been in development since last year and if you would have asked me in the summer of last year emily when's it gonna launch i'd say october 2025 and then the engineers and developers say your timelines are too aggressive we have a working mvp that's being tested right now internally we're getting really close and i think it's gonna be an awesome an awesome platform to bring to base so yeah my professional career is is fully tradfi and then but the the the carve out within that is alternative investments within within tradfi
what are you i mean it seems like tradfi and crypto are merging fast like very quickly in the past couple of years when you're watching like i'm assuming when you're watching things that are happening in davos and you're hearing larry fink talk about everything's gonna be tokenized what do you think about that in terms of where institutional investing is going on chain
yeah the the first fund that i worked for right out of school where i mentioned i was there for a decade and became a partner that fund the cio on that fund was a guy named mark yusko and mark mark you should follow markusko but mark was the prior to being the cio on the fund i worked for mark was oh man mosquito mark was the mark was the cio of of unc chapel hill's endowment which was a and is a billion plus endowment and prior to that he was the number two guy at notre dame's endowment right right under scott malpass so that was my my first kind of entry into the industry working with mark as the chief investment officer on a fund and and mark in 2016 started to talk a lot about bitcoin and then in 2017 launched a fund that was dedicated to investing in companies that utilize blockchain technology and then in 2018 fairfax county pension fund was the first public pension fund to invest in a crypto fund and it was that fund morgan creek so i got to see like this institutional shift starting to happen and that's why i started my firm because i wanted to focus on crypto and at the time the firm that i was at didn't they weren't really interested in it so i'll i'll just in terms of like what's the stuff happening at davos and and macro stuff i'll i'll i'll give more like micro of what i what i've seen and what what's been going on so in 2019 2020 i was out talking about parafi and to some institutions and and some registered investment advisers and in many cases i kinda joke we were getting laughed out of the offices and even going back with yusko talking crypto back in 2018 and earlier it was not very accepted to even talk about these things especially like the institutional world 2021 still like it really didn't shift until the etfs like the bitcoin etf and then the eth etfs like that's when i started to see a bit of shift in at least the advisors or rias like willing to have a discussion on this and in fact many of them start to call back and say hey like tell me about crypto because my clients are my families are calling us now and we need to be educated because we don't wanna look stupid in front of them like that's the last thing that the advisor wants to do yeah so it's become much more accepted and i i'm i'm in phoenix right now at a conference and yesterday we we had a session on what we what we do on the tradfi side and we also talked about what we're building the infrastructure we're building with leanfi to to bring this institutional asset class to a market in a global and permissionless manner and the amount of people with interest that came up after the talk and questions and then at dinner later last i mean it is just fascinating these are all tradfi allocators of capital it it it it is complete like we are we're no we're overton window like sweet spot right now there there's so much now is that leading to significant allocation right now into crypto in traditional kind of i i we're still a little bit a ways from that i think we're getting much closer but the interest and the willingness to talk about it has never been i mean groups like i said the groups that were laughing me out of offices like several years ago it is it is completely different i mean the the interest here is so high and so real it's just fascinating to see so i think we we've we're we're in that overton window and it's only going to kind of get more interesting here as as time goes on so i
think today there's another meeting regarding the market structure bill they're trying to iron out those last bits and i think we'll see it doesn't mean it's gonna translate to you know prices necessarily but i think you'll see you'll see that aspect where there's even more institutional or traditional you know tradfi moving moving towards crypto yeah no that's a lot of interesting yeah
yeah and a lot of folks building like us right now with lefi i mean there there are certain things that we're from a regulatory standpoint i mean we're we're very keen on seeing how this bill plays out and and it can change a lot of the a lot of the i guess design or mechanics and across protocols so that are that are launching or apps that are launching in the space so it's it's an exciting time i think we're i think we're we're in a really we're in the there's there's not a better space to be in right now i don't i i don't think i thought that in 2019 but we were early and and i but i do think we're we're not we're we're not as early now it's it's it's definitely catching on
