You crushed it and especially love how you handled the farcaster isn’t cool enough critique 👏 🫢 I have some pretty strong opinions: - you can’t grow a social network by paying “cool” people to hang out. - agree that only small minority cares about decentralization, but absolutely think you can get the masses to care about the actual benefits- open access to social data, ownership of identity and social graph, censorship resistance, freedom to build and monetize without sharing with the platform, etc. There is so much pent up anger with the status quo of social media corporations. “Decentralized” won’t win anyone over but the benefits will. Seed club guys continued to talk after you left and wished for a product that was everything farcaster has, but at scale 🤔 In my earlier career, I spent a lot of time studying and practicing motivating groups of people - and one huge lever that costs nothing is clarity of purpose. If leaders can sell a vision and make it clear how it benefits the world and tie that back to how the individual benefits, and the individual understands their role in the broader sense, they’ll move mountains to make it happen. Why does farcaster exist, why is it good for the world, why is it good for me an individual, what is my role in the ecosystem (creator, builder, investor, marketer, artist, community, etc) everyone needs to be able to answer those questions instantaneously, and answer as if they own a piece of Farcaster. If they can’t there’s not enough clarity. If you communicate 3x more than you think is necessary, you’re only 1/3 of the way there. If they don’t feel empowered and act like owners, they’ll sit and wait for neynar to solve growth. The other levers we used besides clarity were high standards, low conformity/bureaucracy, recognition/rewards, sense of community. We had success aligning and motivating an engineering team of 1000 to rearchitect and migrate a 15 year old monolith to microservices and CI/CD and AWS. Probably some similar lessons in motivating people on a public social network too bc the research was based on general org psychology

I remember February 24, 2022 ❤️‍🩹 like everyone else, but if I am honest, my life was divided into “before” and “after” much earlier. For me, the war began when Crimea was taken, when unrest started in Luhansk and Donetsk, when the so called “russian spring” changed everything 2014… I still see that picture clearly. I am standing in my kitchen in Luhansk, looking out the window and hearing planes flying overhead. Inside there is a wild, almost animal fear that there will be a war 💔 Back then it was not as massive as in 2022, but I already felt that the old world had cracked and would never be the same again. And in 2022 that wave hit me again… The same wild fear The same uncertainty You do not know where to run or what to do. And you have two children. My life, like the lives of millions of Ukrainians, was turned upside down. In someone’s eyes maybe we became stronger, but at a price no one would ever choose willingly. And stronger. Am I? I do not know. This is very hard to survive. I do not know how it will echo in my mind years from now. The most important thing is that we are alive. That is what I keep repeating to myself. Despite everything we have gone through this and we are still going through it. But we were not broken. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦

It’s already the morning of February 24 in Ukraine, which means exactly 4 years of full-scale war (and it’s been 12 years since russia first invaded Ukraine). All of us have distinct, visceral memories of that day, whether it was waking up in Ukraine to missiles, fighter jets, and explosions, or being far away and desperately trying to get a hold of our families and friends, figuring out evacuations and ways to help.

I don’t know what article Dan is referring to here. (@neynar couldn't find it for me either when I asked for context, but it's a seemingly purposefully vague reference so I'm not surprised.) I’ve also never been to Erewhon. (I’ve honestly always driven through LA and the surrounding area as fast as possible.) It’s a strange reminder. I spend my entire working week deeply immersed in research on esoteric topics: usually a new topic, or at least a new angle on a familiar one, every few days. Yet there are so many subjects, so many contexts, of which I remain wholly and blissfully ignorant. Life is short. There’s only so much we can know.

Nobody here even read the Citrini article. They’re too busy building snowmen with their families instead of preparing for the impending AI deflationary crunch of 2028. I need to warn them
