but this does this is good because it does automatically open up that particular mini app right there yeah for you so that's pretty cool i like it and then the big thing that i saw coming out of new york was the matt lee's bot so gm and happy snapathon this is for matt i am giving everyone two free snap requests from the snap wizard at free turtle i think it might be down right now though i tried it a little while ago so he might have he might have put it on a pause

can you can you tell me how how you're feeling about snaps now so after them being on the feed now for a few days and comparing them to many apps and the interaction like what's your reaction
the i love the idea of software as content and i think that discussion has been sort of floating about i like the idea of having it just be right in my feed for some of these quick things as i snap i think that helps to get people to use things so even if it's then like your aggregator for example even if it's then opening up a mini app it's still easier in my feed and i think that is helpful for everyone i like that it seems very easy to make for most folks i'm still you know working on it but i think that it's gonna add some value to the timeline for sure in the feed so which i love software as a form of expression thank you for the exact wording intern i appreciate that software as a form of expression exactly all right rish has just entered the green room so we are going to bring him up and jump right in we've got lots of fun things to chat about and welcome back to gm farcaster rish

it was great i was glad to be able to join one of them see some people irl get some feedback it was a good time i'm glad people showed up
good how are you thinking about snaps and like what are you seeing that you like what you wanna improve on etcetera like what are your like initial thinking about snaps after the launch
yeah there's a there's a lot of improvements to make so i think there's still some clunkiness when it was renders in the feed in different device formats so an iphone mini might render it slightly weird compared to a normal iphone same for androids i think some people still need to get the update which
is
like somehow we have to like tell people that hey there's an update available which might not be happening all the time in terms of the creation flow i think people still well actually matt lee made a great bot where you can just tag free turtle and tell it the snap you wanna make and more often than not it does actually make a pretty good snap which was kinda cool but outside of that bot people still need a computer today where you have to point your coding agent to the skill it is relatively doable with the skill i think but we would like to get it to a point where you don't need a computer and you can just build it on your phone so there's a lot of improvements to make and i think some people have also have good feature requests around doing better transactions through snaps etcetera which we're also gonna look at so yeah there's a there's a reasonably long list of things
i loved the tagging free turtle idea didn't work for me this morning but i do think that is a way to get a lot more people creating by just making it super simple so i'm hoping i'm hoping to see that back to working so i can can i can i can see if if it worked for it and then also or maybe even getting it to the point where neynar could do that with a tag that would be cool if you have like a neynar studio account or something that would be awesome as well
this will likely be like i don't i don't think we are gonna put this back on maynard like snapch is a broadcaster product and it's just gonna remain a broadcaster product we're gonna likely pull it into the client in some way but you won't need to know about maynard to do anything with it
okay cool alright and then we also have the finalization of the the deal that we've been waiting the final the acquisition is finalized how are you feeling about that does anything change based on that finalization of the acquisition and congratulations and congratulations
thank you it's it was mostly a lot of process and work that we had to get through and these things always take longer than you want them to i think there's a a little bit of work that both teams merkel and nina are still doing this week to hand over stuff but realistically what that means for us is by the end of this week hopefully we'll have the signer controls over the contracts clinker and forecast protocol have access to other things we previously haven't had access to before can make decisions that we might not have made before etcetera practically like we have been operating under the assumption that the acquisition will go through so it doesn't really change anything in our day to day road map it just gives us more flexibility in terms of doing things which we are excited to move forward with so yeah just just a little bit of work remaining this week to fully close that out but we are near the end of the line
amazing and one of the things that you announced but didn't go into too much detail on was the clinker ecosystem funds so yeah what can you tell us about that and any announcements you wanna make regarding the
yeah yeah yeah yeah so i'm i'm actually very excited about it one of the reasons that had to go post acquisition close is because pre acquisition we didn't actually have access to clinker revenue because the corporation that controls or has ownership over the product is the corporation that gets revenue so as part of this acquisition we now have control over clangor revenue which means we can kind of use it differently clangr revenue so far has mostly been used to buy clangr token on the open market which is you know not not a terrible use it's it's doing something but i think it can be put to better use in the sense that instead of just buying tokens on the open market we can actually go and support the people building in the ecosystem and there was some support prior to this with the developer rewards that merkel gave out it had some issues where it was like very automated and that that's good in terms of efficient efficiency but it's bad in terms of like are we rewarding the right group of people or teams who are actually creating the most value on the network and so i'm excited about the time we do this in front where we can actually take a more thorough organic look where humans are involved in making these decisions and they can support the right people and support them better where instead of just buying tokens or our own token on the open market we can actually go and reward people financially to help support their project or their teams and extend their runway and give them what they need to keep building in the ecosystem especially at this time in the market which i think is quite useful and hopefully will be quite impactful so we are gonna redirect 20% of clanker revenue every month to support people and gm varcaster is gonna go and do that and give people the tools and the support they need to go and build an ecosystem so i'm very excited for you guys to take that on and help people and give us feedback and we learn a lot in the process so we'll see how that goes

adrian and i jamarcaster will be the stewards of the fund so the funds are gonna be trickling in over time there i know you're building that mechanism to do the splits so that the fees will automatically go into as a separate account that we've set up via splits thanks splits and then adrian and i will be going through processes to distribute funds each month to the amazing builders who are building on clanker and farcaster so we're really excited who when you're thinking about this rish like what type of projects would you like to see benefit from this fund and i know you you're you're taking a little bit of a hands off and letting us do our thing but just at the you know when you think about this like what do you wanna see incentivized
ideally people who are doing things with a long term mindset and are here to like actually build the things they wanna see in the world it doesn't necessarily matter specifically what they are building but it what matters is are they doing it in a way that aligns with a long term mindset of helping the product and the ecosystem and the network and the protocol and if that is the case we'd love to support them and we'd love to have them continue building regardless more of market conditions regardless of what might be happening externally because we are here to like kind of just like we wanna see some things in the world and we are building that we'd like to help other people who are trying to do the same in the capacity that we can so that that's the ultimate goal of the ecosystem fund and i'm excited for you guys to find the right people in the ecosystem and then help us support them
it helps that we are terminally online and see absolutely everything that gets built and we'll be tapping into the builders that we know who have been already you know here for years building on clanker and farcaster we're gonna be chatting with them to get some insight from like how it's best to support them that's sort of my first task on my brain is like let's talk to you know the ones we know for sure have been building through bears building through bull markets building just keep on building and we wanna make sure that we kinda see how we can best support them first and then work our way through that but we wanna also be supporting new projects that have some potential as well so we'll be looking for those as well so very exciting very exciting we've been talking about this for months and i can't believe it's finally happening i think we started this conversation in january
yeah i've always wanted to do something like this but it's it's taken some time to get there
yeah yeah and dish too i mean like this yeah even predates like even prior to kinda merkel acquisition just the intent of trying to figure out we had a great conversation with dish a year ago yeah of trying to figure out like how do you support builders yep in like kinda the overall clanker ecosystem i love the kind of the the broader view of kind of clanker slash farcaster

yeah and it like the support we can give goes all the way from like brainstorming with the projects giving them some kind of distribution or helping them with distribution understanding tokenomics to like financially supporting them and then we'll see what is the impact of that but hopefully it will be a good outcome for everybody involved
yeah i think it's gonna be i think this is a better approach for sure there's only so much you get from buybacks i think it gave a big bump in the beginning but then we can tell just yeah it's not there's no no no major returns coming from that so i think to encourage people to to build you know longer term projects and things that have a little more substance and if we can encourage that and incentivize that i think that can go a long way to better creation but also you know there's something to be said for memes so you know if you got a good meme i'm not saying don't don't throw that into a clanker as well because you know we know those can those can go go far as well looking at you drb yeah

but what about other stakeholders in the system and and also the the idea of the more we've we've talked for years about developers wanting distribution or developers wanting users developers want users and you don't get users unless the network grows how do you get the growth and we've obviously been building media on farcaster but there's so many people in ecosystem building apps and this and we all talk of like everyone it's like rising tide raises all boats so the idea of a of a fund to help build up like you know everyone building it's kind of can create i'm hoping to see a virtuous cycle of more builders better projects more long term brings more users you know and yeah more content better content better apps more money more clankers more revenue

yeah absolutely and that that is a great example of the kind of things we wanna do where it's very organic people just talk about it and then we kind of go and experiment with it and i think two qr winners so far have been clankers

i think it's well because we're still funds are just starting to be directed to that like just now so it's gonna be a little bit until we have funds accrued enough to start distributing so probably a couple weeks so funds are being accrued through fees they they are being put into a particular wallet and then we'll be going through the process of giving out those funds towards the end of this month that's sort of the first step i think and then also we're gonna be chatting with like we said some bill

you mean from the ceo side of things yes no i think it's it's hopefully it's a pretty simple process where we are directing a portion of the revenue to give out to builders there's other portions of the revenue that we'll use for operations and maybe some discretionary funds to like buy tokens on the market or give more to the cf etcetera we should be able to put out a tweet later today with the exact details but for the cf itself like it's it's a grant essentially like it's a retroactive grant similar to the rewards that were automated in the past it's not an investment it's not something that there's no strings attached essentially like if you have done good work in the ecosystem we want you to be supported and go use the money as you see fit and for people who actually use it well and continue building the ecosystem we'll continue to support them moving forward and i'm excited for gm forecaster to go and play this role in the in the ecosystem and find the right people i and thank you for doing that i think it it gives us some operational bandwidth to actually focus on the product and i'm excited for this partnership

we're super excited like we talk all the time about kind of the what's the angle of our show and it's we just keep bringing up about builders of like the our favorite thing to do is like bring builders on talk to builders cover builders so we obviously have i think a good broad sense of of what's being built and but it's it's also what we love to do so we're like we appreciate you your trust in us and we are we're excited to be good stewards definitely
we did get this question from italian oops nope nope nope wrong one what about creators and i did talk with rish early on about doing maybe a creator sprint where it's getting some folks to write and create and all of those things as part of promotion of other build other projects within the clanker ecosystem so that's something we may do and also if you're a creator with a with a clanker token you you're i consider you a builder as well so those those are possibilities as well so it kinda depends but we're we did talk about doing a creator sprint and that may happen in the future as well but first we kinda we kinda have to just get rolling and then all all all the rest will be revealed so i'm just glad we finally get to get to get moving on this
yeah i mean i would argue this concept though of like the the distinction between developer versus content creator has come up a lot

when we're talking built like you know and then you know you're seeing in the chat everyone's like oh i'm not a builder so like we have a really broad and generous definition of builder builder is you're creating something that didn't exist before like you're making something net new it didn't exist from a grants perspective i think we'd wanna care about what impact you're having and rewarding people who are making farcaster and clanker ecosystem a richer better place to be for existing people providing growth for the ecosystem living values etcetera so i don't think we care as much as what you're building as opposed to kind of like what is the impact you're having within the ecosystem
so i don't think yeah and i don't think it's fair to say oh i'm making content i deserve funds because you know i

know and maybe you're expecting that from the past or i've built 20 mini apps i deserve something like you gotta really show what is the or how are you getting people to use your mini apps and how are you kind of creating value within farcaster and and flanker ecosystems

yeah i think the last time you said about having impact is i think the key key takeaway here and i think for like to your point about questions around terminology i think it's fine to ask questions about terminology and terminology can be confusing and i think the best way to understand what's happening is to just see it happen for one to two months and once people see it happen and kind of be like the right people being rewarded you kinda get a sense of what you need to do and i think what you need to do can be summarized as have positive impact it doesn't have to be code it doesn't have to be a mini app it doesn't have to be anything specific it just needs to be like good positive impact on the network and the ecosystem and from there i think people will kinda get

if you're building something cool share it on the feed and you can tag us tag us in the replies or whatever but share it in the feed and that's the best way for us to to see things and to highlight them we'll highlight them on the show even if you know regardless of what happens with grants we will definitely be sharing a lot of things over over the next couple months very excited for this first round i think once we get this dialed in it will make more sense to everybody including us we're gonna be a little bit you know flexible and loose on this first round just to try and get our hands wrapped around it but in the future we may ask for nominations we may you know ask for you know particular holders of particular tokens or nfts to vote on things so we have lots of ideas around that it's not going to be the same every month we'll probably switch it up a little bit but focus on different things so we may choose to
not do one month and let funds accrue so we can do bigger grants like it's really it's the we're there's there's an allocation we're gonna use it and so we'll we'll we'll keep iterating and and we'll obviously do everything in public yeah with transparency

one more comment advice for people right like whoever and who's so excited about free money amazing right that we're getting recognition from clanker revenue fed back into the ecosystem and i really do think it's going to create a nice virtuous cycle if you think you don't have to work anymore because you can get live off of grants that's not actually the way this works in any reality anything you're expected to do like if you're coming on to farcaster to build an app a company something
it's still on you to figure out how to monetize and and and do that the clanker revenue these are all like combined clanker revenues from all of the total clanker ecosystem which we can feed back in i think it's a great way to recognize projects so you know kind of reward the behavior and the and the projects we wanna amplify and show but i think there's there's no there's there's no reality where you can expect i think the kinda the grants to fund a project when that's still on you to build figure out how you're gonna create value you can launch your own clanker by the way you can launch clankers into your yes
you
can into your applications and that's a direct revenue source and that'll always be greater and goes towards kind of as well feeding back into ecosystem so just kind of like i would think about how to one monetize your own apps and also how to integrate clankers into your apps which will feed into kind of making the clanker revenue grant system bigger over the long term and then also we say clanker a lot projects you don't have to use a clanker to be eligible for the grants but the clankers are the grant sources so
so the you'll you know if a clanker is part of your project obviously that's gonna hit the top of the radar for us right now and then as time goes on we might yeah be recognizing other projects that contribute to the ecosystem overall there's also you know there's projects that support clankr in other words like they have tooling that if you have you know that clankr can plug into there's that also there's you know different going back to creators who promote or help to you know push different tokens or different projects who have their own approach to this i mean matt lee just keeps coming emily jr keeps emily emily jr keeps coming to my head wrong one so there's there's that aspect as well but also there may be some projects that are farcaster focused that aren't necessarily attached to a clinker that we might recognize as well for what they bring to the ecosystem alright exciting
