gm farcaster it is monday july 13 i don't know how that happened and you are here with nowish prop and adrienne for twenty nine minutes of our cast and we start your day and you know what we're actually getting close to that amount of time it's a little quiet

yeah no so they're they're the very old sailing ships so like the uss constitution and the coast guard has one called the eagle and they are from the seventeen hundreds eighteen hundreds things like that there's a replica of the mayflower that was in town as well and they came from all over the world so all the different countries usually have like one of these in their fleet still and they sent them all to boston into new york is it

no they did it they did it in like 1776 they did a big one they've done a couple in between then and now

they've done a couple since then like regattas and this is to celebrate the two fifty they did so during fourth of july they were all in new york so they were all around like doing all kinds of like in the harbor in new york harbor and doing like a parade of sales and then they went they came up to boston so i actually got to watch some of them come through the cape cod canal those are the smaller ones like these are too tall they can't go through so that was really cool and then i went into boston they're all parked along the boston harbor along rose wharf long wharf the pier seaport all the piers in charlestown so if you're in the boston area you should go check them out they're cool

okay moving on twenty nine seconds of farcaster what did you miss this weekend there is an fip to put channels on the protocol and a lot of feedback and chatter on the topic we're gonna talk about that in just a bit the discussion also produced an interesting google doc on channel data which i missed so very cool we got an interesting explanation of the f c algo for cass from neynar in a chat we have that as well and arjan toupon created a p o i d h pixar didn't happen bounty to promote sofa that kenny used one of his cef grants activation boosts and the bounty is getting some cool entries requiring a poem about a cast people found on sofa so if you like to write poetry this bounty is for you so go go write go write a little poem go first of all go check out sofa and then go write a little poem and if you just heard r two d two that was just my text tone if you're not familiar sorry about that forgot to turn that off so that's what that was on to the fip for channels on snapchain channels are landing on the protocol we're planning to anchor channel ownership as an ens style nft couple things we're still figuring out a whether we deploy the nfts on base or eth l one interesting annual cost currently 25 usdc but renewal and squatting isn't currently enforced tell us what you think i don't you know i hadn't thought about what chain mhmm and i hadn't even thought about this as an nft which i like that idea because then you also could sell it and it has you know like that could be interesting if something popped off or you were just didn't wanna do it anymore whatever that gives you an opportunity to transfer easily i feel like l one's probably the way to go at this point just because we don't have the issue with gas being extremely high except in certain moments when things happen but it's not like a recurring problem now i don't know what do you think

so i think that was the main reason for the $25 fee originally was to avoid like major squatting you know make people really you know use them rather than rather than just hang on to them which i'm currently squatting on some but they're not anything anyone would care about it was more like had an idea created a channel didn't really do anything with it kinda thing so i have a lot of those i have a lot of domain names like that

and then yeah and then they do an auction after the fact when people don't renew like after six months there's like a right grace period and they're interesting idea

yeah i think that that's probably a good idea some kind of dynamic pricing and then you could even add in like brand names as dynamic you know more expensive or whatever so anyway interesting if you've got thoughts go add your feedback this is the time to do it so go add your feedback in and then there was some really farcaster intern doing some good deep dives informational casts about things like fips so so is this farcaster one zero one hey wait wait a minute i know that name

wait that sounds familiar fips every real change to farcaster protocol starts as a github discussion anyone can open what is it fip stands for farcaster improvement proposal a design doc that proposes a change change to the farcaster protocol it covers a standard a process or an implementation plus the workflow for approving or rejecting it the idea is borrowed from ethereum's eips why does it matter it's how the farcaster protocol actually evolves for this before this system existed changes got proposed haphazardly and in multiple places fips create one place and one process anyone can follow and weigh in on who can propose one anyone you don't need to be on the nayanar team or a core contributor to submit one important to note proposing is open to everyone but shipping is a separate step they are currently the majority validator so we're also the ones implementing changes fip two seventy two proposes adding other validators as github maintainers which would create a multi party system for who can implement changes to the protocol as we decentralize the validator set how do you weigh in on one just comment on the discussion in github everyone's encouraged to that's generally how an fip gets shaped before it's finalized through public back and forth not behind closed doors and then there's a whole bunch of other notes here technical notes finalized fip needs eight things etcetera etcetera so if you wanna learn more this cast will be in our show notes and you can learn more and then there is fip explainer channels on snapchain two seventy six today channels only exist in our client database if another client wants to build with channels show members mods anything they have to go through us why does it matter once this ships any client can read and write channel data directly the same way they already do with cast without needing our api or approval it also sets a precedent going forward future changes to how channels work happen through the same open process not something we decide on our own who does this affect mostly builders they're the ones who gain something new if you own or host a channel you keep managing it the same way you do today nothing about your day to day experience changes right now what about channels that already exist nothing nothing breaks nothing needs to be recreated existing ownership members moderators and pins all carry over automatically and nothing changes for current owners eventually once a channel's migrated registration lapses renewal becomes a real annual cost in the way it always was meant to be though you'll be able to prepay multiple years at once instead of renewing every year love that this isn't a new fee channels have cost $25 usdc since they launched used to be warps though the set price is one of the open questions in the proposal more on that below even a channel that lapses on renewal keeps taking cast only owner and moderator act actions pause until it's renewed and there's more specifics this cast will also be in our show notes as well as you can find the link to the fip and learn more there and there's our 12 comments so there you go so if you have thoughts go comment not only on farcaster because likely more discussion there but also if you have something very solid about the fip itself make sure you comment over on github as well did you do any commenting on github

same might be because i'm only posting about love island love island i feel like i'm getting the large majority of the love island channel but you know still this this came back from neynar visibility is not the dau it's mainly a question of distribution and relative engagement if the dau drops but your content generates a good engagement rate likes replies per view the algo can push you harder into the feeds for you the for you feed less noise equals more share of voice simple math really it's just yeah percentages at work here ogs with two 20 to 30 k followers sometimes have inactive followers filtered followers spam labels etcetera content less aligned with the current algo by the way both adrienne and i have like well well over a 100 k like followers on the protocol i think mhmm i think mine's over there i don't know it might not be that high for me i know yours is but we don't have nearly that many on farcaster because of like it filters out spam and stuff like that so when you're seeing numbers it's actually a lot higher at the protocol level reach today is more merit meritocratic than historical the social graph matters but attention wins in short quality over seniority welcome to 2026 super interesting but so what's the algo right now the themes and how does farcaster analyze if my post will be better distributed does it analyze the image the text the topic so this was really interesting right now the algorithm mainly favors early engagement dense conversations and trust signals topics doing well right now crypto infra builders less hype more shipping ai agents tooling sports live events see love island mhmm light drama not toxic again love island very personal but authentic posts i guess sports was also you know that world cup thing going on how it's analyzed text semantics topic quality of generated responses image yes basic classification what it depicts safe not safe etcetera social graph who interacts with you their reputation their recent activity speed the first thirty to sixty minutes matter a lot the system optimizes engagement rate per impression not raw follower count in short create conversations people want to continue the algorithm will follow there you go and as peachy said feed the algo so there you go feed the algo i feel like that should be like a little warpy mean be the algo a little warpy beating the warpy

and i think like real conversation real converse yeah we can put that on a t shirt come on minty merch beat the algo that's a great idea actually i think i need that i think it's yeah the smart thing is if you're if you're building if you're a builder that gets great attention share what you're building share your process as you're building i think that most people find that interesting because you have like the builders are also the users so they're gonna find that interesting so there's that and then also fun people like fun so just share what you're doing chicken content is encouraged i find more chickens more chickens more gardens we love gardens for expounding you know like things like that are actually they get they get some attention because we would like to know what you're doing what

just unfortunately doesn't matter to enough people at the moment at the moment afternoon you never know

i feel like everything that's popped whenever farcaster has had a popped off moment though it's been not because of the farcaster team necessarily frames yes degen no

so like in in base sort of you know jumping on and and being that you know partner for a while and pushing the narrative for a bit and then pulling back all of that was completely out of the you know merkel's control so you know be the change i guess is what i'm saying it could be any one of you could be the thing you know create the thing that makes farcaster pop off and if you do we'll be here to we'll be here to talk about it so hopefully yes we will talk about you and we will talk about you about that
