this from rich over on twitter and i'm not gonna read this whole thing but i'm gonna read a little bit of it the thing people think clinker is and the thing we are actually trying to build are pretty different most people know it as a meme coin launchpad that's accurate for today the bigger direction is closer to infrastructure that makes tokenizing any kind of asset straightforward meme coins now real world assets regulated regulated instruments creator markets asset classes that have never had a liquid market before eventually the reason i think this can work comes from watching nayanar what worked for nayanar was making the underlying layer reliable and cheap enough for builders to keep experimenting with different products and use cases we think clinker will follow a similar path he goes on to talk more about that and a big part of the real world asset piece of this will be the b 20 integration which is coming soon as well so very cool

i think they're just not paying attention they're busy alright i am gonna read this i am gonna add my commentary in because if i hold it to the end it's just gonna be crazy so i'm gonna say things as i go along but this is from jesse we will have the full post without my commentary in the show notes you can also find it by just going to just it's everywhere it's literally everywhere and everyone's talking about it so you can find it everywhere so this from jesse pollock of base yesterday lots of conversations about base over the last week wanted to share my candid take after a week of listening and a lot of reflection over the last six months first off in case it's not obvious the first quarter of twenty twenty six was a punch in the face yeah sorry and and i going to start this i know i'm gonna say some things it might sound a little rough but also i appreciate jesse for everything for putting himself out there out front building in public for everything he's done with base over the past three years two and a half years whatever it's been three years and like the work that he's put in and the fact that he's willing to put himself out there is massive so props for that let's continue i spent 2024 and 2025 making a two pronged bet to bring base to the world one builders would unlock the next wave of crypto adoption two adoption would be driven by new on chain native social experiences creators content messaging in my opinion we made the right bet on builders but obviously the wrong bet on social okay this is where you lose me because first of all you're literally writing this on a social platform and literally every single thing that has happened in crypto since the beginning of time has had some kind of social aspect whether it was somebody telling you hey you should go check out bitcoin you should go read this the freaking bitcoin was launched on a listserv that was the first discussion of bitcoin was on a freaking listserv okay so let's just establish that crypto is by nature social okay let's continue builders did drive the next wave of crypto adoption especially builders on farcaster for base's volume which is about 70% i would guess could go directly or indirectly back to farcaster builders i'll discuss that more in a moment
prediction markets perpetuals stablecoins but social was not at the center of it prediction markets are inherently social so that makes no sense whatsoever by the way so are perps to some extent because you're getting social indicators as to what to buy in the perps market because of news which you find normally on social platforms okay continue on stablecoins is the only thing that i agree with on that point and that's payments except for the fact that you're making payments oftentimes due to social indicators that you see and if you need some you know need to fully understand that just jump on instagram or tiktok where you will be like inundated with things to buy and that you'll all of a sudden wanna buy things that you don't even need very social moving on but social was not in the center of it in fact the entire social side of the market that many of us have been building towards farcaster zora mini apps and yes creator coins disintegrated completely that is in case you're wondering why i said we might rebrand to disintegrate it completely i was wrong whether it was timing wrong is anselm a creator coin or fully wrong only time will tell but regardless i was definitely wrong okay jesse you're wrong about zora and creator coins 100% agree with you there and told you that like from day one and we had many conversations about that about how i thought that bet was wrong i've also have dms which i would love to even you know remind him of but i can't because they've been taken out of the base app about this specific thing when he was pushing point that there were people on the base team pushing zora over other platforms other launch platforms that it didn't make sense and it was very frustrating so i was in those dms going hey what about clanker what about banker what are you doing why just zora so frustrating the problem was not farcaster and many apps and the builders who brought all that to you the problem was the full on 100% bet on zora and content coins and creator coins and thinking that absolutely everything needed to be on chain that was the bet the bet had nothing to do with farcaster that was a method by which you were pushing the zora content out that was it and the social graph when you're talking about the ansem as a creator coin how did ansem get people to buy his coin let let me let's take a guess here twitter telegram his group chats things that are social because otherwise you're gonna launch a coin into the ether and no one's gonna buy it so it's all inherently social so this is where you lose me by the way elon's been trying to build in x money for like years now because he knows that's true so of course it's social okay let's continue on the collateral damage again this is where we're getting the second rebrand possibility of gm collateral damage because high collateral damage here the collateral damage was pretty bad and this year has been an exercise in eating shit and i sorry about that jesse because that does suck and you are an incredible builder and an incredible leader it's just unfortunate that you made a really bad bet and that bet was zora and content coins we realized how our focus on social content coins had meant that base had fallen behind in key areas that were now increasingly critical we had perps shout out adventist and prediction markets shout out limitless but both were well behind scale competitors pausing there again why didn't you just build in hyper liquid and polymarket that is i'm i'm really confused about that that's what rainbow did that's where i use it because it works really well and why wouldn't you do that i don't know there was really no need to build it in completely you could have just taken a percentage of that and we had a lot of room to improve in unlocking base as a platform for tokenization and payments that really worked for enterprises people lost confidence and ct spectators yeah ct spectators are what driving this thanks story guy reminded me weekly of all my mistakes as often as they could it felt bad man still feels bad also yeah you're spectators if you're spectators and you're not actually building anything honestly shut up like please like you've been like hitting this man over the head constantly this is the first thing i think we've said out loud i've said a lot in directly to jesse about this very nicely but like this crap that you see on ct just to get clicks is really annoying it is not weird
right and this is the difference right between the different cultures like on farcaster crew people were not super into creator coins but what do we do anyway we tried them it was like okay try it before you have an opinion yeah and we all did like we bought into coins we were coining content we were going back and forth between baseapp and farcaster but then we are not going to give the like the like the but we weren't going we weren't also going
all in we weren't all going all in on creatorpoints and we all were kinda pushing back like hey this doesn't fully make sense to us and we got a we got a lot of we you know that hurt us honestly from the base perspective of we didn't weren't getting as much support and many other builders because we weren't one we weren't a 100% behind that meta because we knew it wasn't it didn't make sense and it wasn't a good idea

protocol world right it shouldn't even have mattered right because you can have multiple apps like let base experiment and do their thing
like yeah but putting it like as your as your full on only focus ended up killing a lot of builders or at least they couldn't they couldn't you know that was
the problem well that is the collateral damage because at launch
that was the first level too yeah
it was like too big of a launch like it was kind of building incubating in this in a different arena than you're launching to and then when you launch you didn't bring everybody along no and it was a massive backlash and yeah it sucks

oops here we are here we are i thought for a long time that social was the only thing that could drive the sort of viral growth to get crypto to a billion people yeah it it literally is because that's the only way they're gonna hear about it unsurprisingly i now believe that's wrong it's not it's clear that better money is more than enough it's not we are seeing this live with stablecoins predictions perpetuals tokenization and i only expect it to accelerate three of those things have social components to them stablecoins is the only thing and again if you bring in payments and you bring in what people buy then it does have a social component to it i am now focused on bringing a billion people on chain just by making global finance actually work sure that's a big part of it absolutely but if you don't have anywhere to tell them about it that's a problem on the app my focus is on building base into a blockchain for global finance to that end i've handed the base app back to the coinbase mothership where my now good friend kobi will be taking it from here to make it the best damn app for on chain you've ever seen including expanding beyond the base ecosystem in ways that to be honest i won't love as the leader of base kobe who most people know as what a reply guy on twitter and a podcast host i know he has a lot of other skills and has built a lot of cool things but literally one of the most social guys in freaking crypto like that's how he's known and again you're talking about how how social doesn't matter like make it make sense here it's incredibly hard to grow a decentralized network inside of a big public corporation and i feel like much of the discourse on ct over the last week is downstream of this the following things can be true base and i love memes two brian probably won't ever bull post memes on the tl which is something that people want him to do which he's obviously not gonna do it this activity is illegal once you're over 40 years of age you really needed an lol or a little like emoji because a lot of people took you seriously and were like it's illegal really

build base into a blockchain for global finance and do everything we can to be a place for the world where the world's money settles over the next century we will surely have formidable competitors welcome robinhood and stripe and people may abandon our cause but we welcome the competition and believe it's our duty to win respect and commitment of those who rally to our banners in 2026 this concretely means three things winning tradings payments and agents continuing the reply before i go there robinhood and stripe stripe who literally is building their crypto with a bunch of people who came from social and robinhood whose success was driven by reddit but again social doesn't matter okay continuing on trading means every asset tokenized stock memes app coins whatever you want to trade payments means stablecoins that work globally for people and the enterprises agents means accelerating all of it because crypto is native money for computers and artificial intelligence is going to create trillions of new economic actors yeah agents where the easiest place to build an agent is wait for it farcaster where we've been talking with agents since like the beginning of time and where one of the biggest sources of transaction and volume on base banker started where farcaster and against these three pillars builders are the backbone if there's one thing i'm deeply proud of since the beginning of base alongside all the mistakes it's betting on builders base is what it is because of the people who built it not the roadmap not the infrastructure the builders who showed up shipped and kept going through every version of this the good stretches and the hard ones we're going to keep backing them base layer base batches and base ecosystem fun my time my team's time coinbase and base app distribution as much as we're able to we will do everything we can to make builders win on base because when builders win base wins okay again and i don't have the exact numbers but my estimate is about 70% of transaction volume can be can go directly back to for 2024 and 2025 and probably a little bit into 2026 as well can go directly or indirectly back to farcaster starting with degen jacek the biggest hit the biggest volume came from degen and frames on farcaster for transactions on base that's where it started then it was clankr then it was bankr and to this day that's still accounting for the large amount of volume and then if you get into transactions overall it's mini apps too like added on top of that and some of the smaller memes almost all of the meme coins that have launched have taken off either because of farcaster or twitter social i mean like this just is boggling my mind and also if you wanted to really double down on prediction markets how about you should have put more into bracke and ponder which had really cool mechanics and very social aspects to them that were a lot of fun so that was a missed opportunity continuing on if you made it this far yeah we're here and you couldn't already tell i don't have everything figured out we try stuff we make mistakes and we adapt in public which we greatly appreciate and we know that you get hit personally don't agree with this his take on betting on social aspects being wrong betting on his interpretation of what social should look like was wrong last base camp had so many influencers running around to make curated scripted content yet the real stuff worth capturing was a beautiful engagement siege had there or a whole group of degens getting stranded at the top of a mountain hiking down together plus all the hours long fireside chats and debates etcetera community will always be something i bet on it's the missing piece so that was like again the the push for the content coins and the content that he thought would drive it pushed in a whole different group of people who weren't actually the people who had been building on base like for real they weren't the organic builders they were the we're being paid to be here builders and it was very different minus a couple like there's a couple in there that you know had been building a long time before that like afro chicks and you know rachel wilkins and people like that but for the most part it was the mercenaries coming in and being paid to do it and that was also a little frustrating to be honest and then kat went on to say so many once in a lifetime type memories and friendships made plus that networking was key still is as we navigate through the sluggish time we're falling back on those real relationships we made for support and building while everything shakes out and rebalances like it does every year or so but really like there were so many incredible builders there again who weren't
