literally this is it this is the only thing and if you can't see my background let me pull my background up as an overlay just so you can see fully this was the whole entire world lit up in pink like the world you've got empire state building eiffel tower sydney opera house like just everywhere tokyo rock and roll hall of fame like just amazing all over the place los angeles everywhere just everywhere it was crazy and everyone just the empire state building turned themselves pink at 09:25pm nine to five just in case you needed to me to work that out for you but just amazing that like this impact that she had and then by the way on our tiny little social network which is mostly millennial dudes full full of dolly parton which was just incredible and the gen xers came in with a a little bit more and so this was from brad q seeing so much dolly love on the feed figured some of you might like this brilliant podcast series about her talking a good bit also ken burns country music documentary the episode on the seventies has a lot about her in a great episode so couple couple more things and then this was incredible too the buckingham palace the royal family posted this remember the late great dolly who brought joy comfort and inspiration to so many including the millions of children given free books through her imagination library we will always love you and it was the band playing nine to five like the palace band so just wild and believable this was from boiler on her dolly just go out and be good to people today simple very easy and trish posted all day long one thing after another she was posting various things about dolly so just go look at trish's whole entire feed but now it's tim curry so we didn't have a shift but you just go back a day it's all dolly parton and she posted a lot of cool stuff i had suggested to burr that we should do some women in music to honor dolly parton and it was she did twenty four hours of women in music trivia in the lobby yesterday and it was pretty awesome it was a lot of fun and there was a lot more people it it brought a lot more people out so there was a lot of people playing it was really fun and yeah so that was the dolly dom of of our of our times and just amazing but just an incredible human if you're not familiar like i mean i'm sure you are by now for god's sakes but just go read her a bit if you're if you're not and just you know everything that she that she took her fame her money and put it to work and like lifted people up within her own little area of the world which is very poor like the appalachian area of tennessee and just like you know pigeon forge and just created a whole economy for not just giving a handout but giving a leg up to people which was incredible so so that's all yeah i was just very sad because i hadn't had enough sadness in my life in the past few weeks i needed more and then i doubled down on that by watching steel magnolias and amazing i got out of bed

she better be because the gays will absolutely lose it they can't have one more just no no no no we are not doing that so no cher leave her alone okay moving on this this is not a pop culture podcast but just today it is we had two spaces earlier this week both discussing both with folks who have proposals in to take over farcaster one was peachy with cassie which they're calling a community call it was the state of the union that peachy runs a lot with the community and she had cassie on talking about hypersnap and what her plans are and then we had jeff goldberg back from wherever he's been with suji the founder and ceo of mass network doing an interview there and then that was followed by another like just community party hang time afterwards where by the way some people thought there was only two people who put proposals in

you put one in we showed some of the other day there were plenty of cats that were in there but there are actual real like other proposals that were being put in and that's why rish was like cutting things off because they had some good ones and they were they were done but that like for some reason i think there were some folks who thought it was just like a this or this kind of choice and there could be multiple others well then and during during the third call there was a confirmed there was a third so at least a third but again at least

that was and that was not my timer that just went off that was my r two d two text message alert so my my my little ringtones are fun i'm just saying i'm very whimsical this from saying jill one thing that struck struck me about the pieces that i caught last night this is in regard to the two calls or three calls i'm not sure which ones he was on a lot of the things people proposed were clients alternative clients with different ways of interacting with the protocol why haven't those been built and why does it take new management for that to happen my brain is having a hard time reconciling demand for more decentralization with demands for a central acquirer entity to build weirder client experiments opportunity for another client is a meme but it's also true be the client you want to see in the world and we're going to talk a little more about that in just a moment because the client's been open source which i'll get into in a moment couple more things we've gotten this question which we thought it was obvious but i think i had to make it apparently very clear that the cef is on pause as a clinker is being sold so everything's on pause and we don't know if it'll ever be back it's going to be completely up to whoever the new owner is what they want to do with it may have nothing to do with us we're going to be wrapping up like you know sending out 1099s to whoever we have to and getting everything wrapped up probably within the next week like i'm trying to get it done like hopefully by this weekend so that is my plan so if i let that hang i'm gonna forget all about it so we're wrapping things up but if you want to see what we did you can go to the cef page on gmforecaster.com and see all the things that we did with it and all the projects that were and the projects are still pumping out like fun activations and things you've got you know burr and plants with the lobby they're doing another they bought another $500 usdc worth of better that they're using for different games like trivia and all different things within the lobby you've got poids still like kicking every day with bounties so all kinds of stuff still happening with the cef but there's no more rounds coming up so just to be very clear for those who weren't aware i guess we had to make it explicit and this from jake over on twitter which i forgot to pull up so let me do that real quick but this was very nice there was so much talent on farcaster it still is builders and artists especially people interested in new ways of living operating at the edges there was real engagement on posts not just likes and dunks like actual interactions crypto was anything but boring it was more it was about more than just trading more than stable stocks and perps you could just build any kind of app and people would want to try it it was real crypto native social and that's some of what i miss about it you wouldn't know if you weren't there so true story

but what will we even talk about there's not much to talk about there no that will not be a thing but we'll see what's next because i honestly don't know we're just kinda waiting things out at the moment alright moving on we got some other thing we got one other big thing to talk about and one other funny thing to talk about opportunity for another client so this is from manan this one has been a long time in the making both web and mobile farcaster clients are now open source few notes snapshot will be automatically will automatically be updated weekly we removed the wallet implementation because it's not part of the protocol we've hardened this code best we can and open source means more eyes throw hammers at it and if you find something tell us via dm or file a github issue in the repo we won't be merging in contributions we'll leave that decision for the next stewards owners of farcaster so there you go and then rish also had said open source open source primary client and there was some discussion down here a little bit about the back end now do the back end and rish was saying you're self hosting the 100 k a month plus back end on your local and there was a little bit of back and forth about we just want to see the code but no they're not going to do that but most people are pretty happy to see this happen and very excited about seeing the open source so lots of nice little comments here and then we had a few people already get get going but this from nikolai i thought this was really useful now that fc client is open source just want to share this again if you're building a new client please consider these ideas and it was five ways traditional social media enslaves you and it was actually a very good and interesting article so go get a read and then this from say angel this was back when he was talking about the chats and he said some good points i think under i think people underestimate how hard it is to build a good client social experience especially without proper funding and then once it's built you need people to care it's certainly not build it and they will come and that was my point as well if i can find it i wrote a little bit of something about that we've seen many many many many clients like even without this open source of this client of the main farcaster client we've seen many clients come and go and some of them have been very good and didn't get any traction i still think zapper was the was the way base should have been and i flat out told jesse that at basecamp last year it was the the way that read for traders was fantastic because it was very much the social feed but without the noise it was just specifically for traders social feed and it was just really well done like even the way it displayed nfts everything very well done shout out sab and that didn't take off so that's already been you know that's done and that was probably one of the best ones we've seen we've seen you know degen tried that still exists in a different form we've seen sowfa is another one that is very good for what it is like it has a very specific point of view i like the way it's done it's curated it's a different approach that's the only way you're going to get people using a client is if it has a different approach if it's you're trying to do the same thing that farcaster is already doing you're up against a big wall it's going to be very hard but and nounspace was really interesting i mean and it had a great founder nounspace tom i've met him a couple of times have photos with him fantastic dude a little stiff

yeah a little flat but you know always there showed up you know great in a photo op but that was the other thing nouns did three funded three clients way back when and linx had said something about this and i just corrected it because he said i haven't actually built one myself so i could be full of shit but at the hypersnap kickoff meeting kickoff meets difficulty to create a client was emphasized by multiple devs oh thank you they mentioned things like custom feeds spam blocking and data model around threaded conversations iirc and more uno spent like 1,000,000 making their client recaster spent $20 so we're averaging 50 k a client also noun spent 50 ks it was 100 ks each for 300 for three clients it was 300 ks in that proposal and didn't get very far the only one that actually got made was nounspace from that particular proposal and they were funded a little bit more the other two couldn't get it off the ground and actually returned the funds so it's not easy like for for what people are are saying and and it kind of i like six's comment here it's great that farcaster client is open source now everyone who is passionate about how it should be open source will start using it to build new clients and fulfill the ideals of decentralization

that should be taken with the sarcasm it was meant but that said we do have a couple people who've been building already and it's kind of cool so i think if you're gonna run something locally i think this is fantastic i think that is the great you know use case of the open source code is you want to do this a little differently but don't expect everyone out to be like using your client i think that is sort of you know keep your expectations low but if you have something you want for you and maybe you know you can charge a little bit for somebody who might find it interesting as well that could be cool and then flor also said having fun with the open source fc client towncaster is a digital town square where casts appear as chatter when pulled in channelcaster is a stab at a channel first view there's been other stabs at that shout out kira allowing you to adopt casts into other channels so this one's kind of interesting you know again like these are both very interesting and fun but they're gonna run locally as far as i know and then there's this one from say angel he just wants warp cast back so we'll see we'll see what he does i think he just wants the name there was one more thing where is it here it is wvens our friend had a really good cast here spent some time taking a look at farcaster client now now that it's been open sourced lots of good stuff mit license web and mobile both in there installed in just a few minutes and built in even less runs locally against the production api serious feat of development and shout out to folks who have worked on this at maynard and merkle the client code is open but the api isn't the client talks to a private api with 600 unique paths seven eighty plus operations once you count methods to be fair you don't need all of them and a good chunk is admin internal tooling plus wallet swaps tips quests a minimal client could work with less but would still be a lot of surface area the api allowless origins you can run locally local host and farcaster.xyz/warpcast.com work this is browser level though c o r s so yes you could proxy it but you'd be routing routing around a control that's there on purpose and can be closed whenever so you can fork it run it change whatever you want etcetera locally but the biggest challenge is there's no back end to point at snapchain stores protocol messages casts reactions follows profiles verifications but not things like dms notifications sessions feed or search for example to generate a home feed a client needs to be able to read follows fetch cast merge sort populate profiles count reactions resolve embeds paginate etcetera snapchaine doesn't do this you need an indexer nayanar sells one or you build your own not easy also requires a lot of resources and maintenance especially with increased usage which is hard to accurately budget for incredible point there by the way if you do build the most amazing client guess what people start using it it's gonna cost you more money so three layers snap chain protocol data an indexer like neynar makes it query queryable a product back end dms auth notification search catalog client needs all three if you wanna build your own but with this open client you can now point at 680 plus operations and see exactly how much product sits between the protocol and the actual app good opportunity to learn and build more folks that have expressed interest in taking the helm would benefit from sharing more details on how they technically operate and maintain this in a scalable way great point it's definitely expensive requires multiple full time resources need some sort of healthy revenue model there's enough public information now with the release of the of the open client to fully scope it out ps a token is not a revenue model q what would the token do it just buys more time to get back to where we are now and then you have the by the way and then you have the app store as a as a nice little barrier as well so that was kinda he kinda said a lot more technical what i was saying in a lot more general way of like there's a lot more to this than just you know build it and people will use it and we've seen a lot of people try so because someone else and i forgot to grab this one posted everyone's gonna be running their own client i'm like oh no they're not they are so not

like no 90% of the network is not creating their own client period full stop not happening the 10% of you crazy devs absolutely are gonna create your own version of it customize it the way you want play around with it and then you might have one or two people who actually try to make a go but no because even even some folks who are technically capable are too busy they don't have time to do that they're not going to do that and there's a ton of us who are not that technically capable and who surprise don't even use github on a regular basis at all

no just that's it i'm just being lazy we know how this ends people like even with your best agent it can't do everything for you like you still need to know when it screws up and how to fix it so if you're not a coder like you can give it a shot but you're gonna you're gonna get so frustrated and i know this just from building tiny little go build a little game or something first and then see how it goes before you try and build a freaking client a break

really funny oh and that's the other thing yeah when i go on fb i you know what's really funny is when sometimes people will post something on facebook and they've connected it to their threads you don't have to connect it and then it shows up over on threads it gets really funny sometimes because the people on threads will it will just randomly show up in an algo and they'll pick up on like a conversation that has nothing to do with them there was one where like someone some dude was married also had a girlfriend also had a fiancee and then they all like found out about each other and it was all this huge conversation on threads and they had no idea it was over on threads because they didn't realize it it was funny i enjoyed those stupid things but be careful out there don't connect your threads to your facebook account if you don't want things like that to happen so i think that's it what did i forget
