not to
not today by the way did you notice my hat do you remember what this is
so i think that was from farcon new york and it was a
it was
j4ck j4ck is that what his handle was jack
j force no yeah j4ck yeah
j4cp
not cp c4k ck yeah jack it was an emma yeah emma did he design
it though
yeah i think he did it was like the thinking was she wanted the like the farcon to feel like a shareholder meeting or something along those lines so that you were a shareholder
a participant of the network you are right yeah own this the farconomy
farconomy exactly so the other one i have which i wear often i i almost never wear this one is this
is this social economy was that the same was that created at the same time
yep it was the same same farcon merch so yeah that was this felt appropriate but also kinda not
but also interesting interesting choice of hats today
yeah i have a i'm gonna get shit for that i'm sure i'm sure i'm gonna get shit for it but hey it is what it is anyway we've got a lot to talk about today if you are watching please retweet recast let people know we are live i am going to do the same and we are gonna get rolling because we do actually have a lot to chat about today
so let's let's get going and we'll be back on the other side of this forty one seconds
welcome to gm farcaster bringing you everything from breaking news to spicy memes to the deep lure shaping this vibrant digital community more than just a show gm farcaster is your digital third space where the community connects
the stories unfold and the
culture thrives whether you're a daily caster or just dropping by we've got the latest buzz to keep you plugged in so grab your coffee and let's dive in with your hosts nounish prof and adrienne for another episode of g m farcaster
i'm not done tweeting hold on one second
i am not starting off very good alright here we go
or are you just stalling because you don't know whether what to say
no i know what to say
as cathfax in the comments said gm whatever
gm whatever gm whatever gm still calling it farcaster for now because i i understand i guess the protocol is still called far farcaster so unless i'm mistaken i don't know i'm confused by that part so anyway gm farcaster it is friday october 16 and you are here with nounish prof and adrienne for oh let's say thirty seven minutes of farcaster news to start your day we really have like one big thing to talk about and a few other little things
at least we have something to talk about i mean it's been a struggle we've been on the struggle bus for a while here and at least we have things to chat about today and we did do a breaking news livestream yesterday to let the little folks get some feelings out because we felt like it was it was necessary to get the community together yeah it's anyway i am yeah i'm i'm still processing things and we're gonna we're gonna chat about all the things so let's get going shall we we're gonna start with this this was from rish yesterday network school is acquiring farcaster we're transferring the farcaster app the protocol repositories related products to network school we ran a broad process and received several strong proposals farcaster needs a different operating model for its next stage network school has the resources to fund farcaster and its broader suite of products with a strong vision for how farcaster can be a digital complement to physical network states balaji will share more on this and we'll get to that in a second most of the neynar team will be joining network school to continue building farcaster including farcaster intern after four years bans i and other team members will be moving on to something new thank you to everyone who built alongside us and rish thank you
it has been challenging for the neynar team since they took over and you know honestly some people made it challenging and i'm gonna say that outright right now because i haven't appreciated that i'm just gonna say
it mhmm
so take that for what it is and it's been something that you know we really try to stay neutral here
but i'm just telling you if you come at me i'm gonna be very honest that i haven't appreciated that approach i didn't think it was useful i think some people didn't give them enough time to get going also let me back up even further the freaking transition took way too long the first time it took too long this time i'm gonna blame all the lawyers and i hate you my brethren for taking so long because it really kills a lot of momentum and causes just it causes so many problems so i feel like they didn't have a they didn't get a like a full fair shake to do some things they wanted to do because they were constantly battling people who were trying to make it difficult for them so mhmm there we go moving on to balaji's statement this came out after we'd already done the livestream yesterday so we didn't get a chance to talk about this hello everyone network school is acquiring farcaster our goal is to turn this client into a family friendly place where you can learn technology earn cryptocurrency have fun with the community achieve your milestones in life and gradually build a high trust offline society anyone of any race religion class nationality is welcome so long as they cooperate with other members and share broadly techno optimist values to get there we'll need a new moderation policy rather than the soviet union of digital tyranny which typified the twenty tens or somalia of lawless digital anarchy that characterizes today's online environment we seek to intentionally build the first singapore of social media we get there in four steps institute law and order create a decentralized democracy publish a written social smart contract and then hold on an ongoing series of meetups with our new newly invigorated community step one is law and order in the pre internet world it was simply unheard of to run up to a stranger and stark at them by the way i do love mike tyson has a little quote about that like people forget what it's like to get punched in the face when he's talking about online trolls back to this we're restoring that offline norm online much like how president pichi jailed a small fraction of repeat offenders to essentially eliminate crime in el salvador we've moderated out the small fraction of repeat offenders that have been muted or blocked by many accounts to stop random attacks within this farcaster reference client we've done this by using both humans and ai to crunch millions of posts of course there will always be some false positives and we do have an appeals process in the event you either a believe your account was unfairly moderated or b believe you were fairly moderated but want to commit to changing your behavior in the future from one vantage point other social media platforms have had a moderation and appeal process for a long time so in one sense we're really just catching up on technical debt and getting to industry standard however in another sense unlike preexisting tech platforms we're actually being very concrete about the techno optimist values we stand for and giving you a concrete democratic choice over your digital governance which leads us to step two step two is decentralized digital democracy as described at farcaster by zvote if you look on the side you'll see the little little flag that is the network state flag and that has your vote with all the details of what you signed or what you voted on when you came back in you can vote with your crypto wallet your on chain ballot and eventually your feet via a farcon slash ns meetup for our social singapore many of you have already done so like linda must murtaza murtaza and phil in fact as of this time of this writing 92.9 support for network school farcaster and you can see the on chain votes provably streaming in here that was of the there well there's another cast about that that gets into the numbers which i'll talk about in a moment of course you can also vote for another client or build your own after all the farcaster client has been open sourced and then github is linked there and the farcaster protocol is already open so with today's ai tooling you can rapidly boot up whatever client you want the only limitation is the same one that the ethereum foundation implements you can't use farcaster warpcast neynar network state or network school related names to launch any coin token or commercial project you can use the farcaster protocol under the hood just like google uses linux under the hood but you can't call up call your app or digital asset farcaster itself the goal is to prevent user confusion and crypto scams three step three towards building the first singapore of social media is to publish examples of good and bad behavior what an earlier generation might call goofus and gallant we have a v one of the social smart corresponding network code up at farcaster contract we'll update it over time with specific ai prompts concrete examples of pro social behavior that we want in the app like posting technical tutorials hosting offline events and the like and also examples of antisocial behavior that we don't want finally step four is to begin hosting online and offline meetups with the community members that have opted into the new vision we may do a meetup like farcon an in person event at network school in astana or an online event like our previous 1729 vr meetups or all of the above in each case admission will be at least partially token gated to those who voted for the new social smart contract this way we start from a baseline of common values techno optimist goals and provable democratic legitimacy from that solid foundation we can build a true digital community and together we can cooperate at a scale no social network has ever seen before so that's the idea we're looking forward to building the first singapore of social media with you if you want to join us please make your choice at farcaster dot x y z vote alright and just to show that we're not going to read the whole thing but if you go to the little flag on the side if you've voted i believe it probably shows up there you're in read only anyway even if you need to get back to it if you haven't signed yet i think you can find it there as well and it goes to show it goes on to farcaster's becoming network state protocol and it's a lot of what is in balajis statement there but also gets into details about the code and what is expected so if you vote to stay you sign the social smart contract with your key your voter store is a signed record you keep posting here under the contract's rules the rules apply to your past posts as well as new ones each account gets a standing green yellow red serious or repeated violations lead to off boarding vote to leave your account becomes read only in this client nothing is deleted you can export your keys and take your followers to the open source client or any other farcaster client you can change your vote later on your vote tab of the side of the panel not now you can keep reading and decide later whatever you choose your keys wallets and funds stay yours your followers and your history stay on the protocol you can export everything and i think those are three important points that i wanted to highlight again
okay adrienne
yes comments
thoughts i like the i like the goofus and gallant reference
yeah that was there was a lot of surprise references throughout
do know who goofus and gallant are
i have no idea i did not know that one at all
i'm so curious okay
i had no idea what that was and i forgot to add it up
so that's my valid did you ever read highlights magazine yes okay do you remember goofus and gallant it was like they would have this little cartoon it was like two pictures every and one was like this is what goofus does in a scenario of like like look this is what goofus would do which would always be like the rude antisocial not nice person and this is what gallant would do like the nice little gentleman boy so it was like demonstrating behavior but i just as soon as i hear goofus and gallant i just think of my dentist because like they would just have right as a child
well when you said highlights i immediately thought of the doctors and dentists
doctor's office right yeah and they would just have these magazines
and remember goofus and gallant at all oh that's so funny that's funny i did not remember that and i was like i need to go look that up and i forgot to do it so it was a there was a lot going on
so zal you are forgiven for not knowing goofs and gamble it's a really
very niche niche reference for sure wanna point this out this was linked in his statement where it says contract here is a little bit more detail on the social smart contract and the network code you can give that a read it's very long but it's talking about again the goofus and gallant the rewarding positive sum behavior what's happening here and then desensitizing zero sum and negative some behavior so there you go digital felonies digital misdemeanors digital infractions which i got hit with a with a rudeness and i stand by it and then the appeal process if you want to appeal so first there are those there are some folks who were banned from coming back on the platform there is an appeal process so if you believe it's been flagged incorrectly or you think that you know you want to appeal the the ruling so to speak you can appeal and you'll find it on that contract page on the code page or when you logged in it should have given you a link to that immediately that's being reviewed by a human so the first sort of round of the way they did this was via ai that kind of looked at all of the casts and categorized them in these different places and then they had a human look through them as well for anyone who was flagged as red i believe so that has happened in the background before they went live with this it's different i think a lot of what we're seeing is folks who are not happy with the idea of the sort of retroactively this happening which i can understand so you didn't we didn't have these type of rules you did and you didn't you kinda did but not explicitly not something you agreed to in this in this manner so that is where there's kind of been a lot of concern that there wasn't an opportunity to abide by the rules before being banned so we'll probably see some folks who are currently unable to access through the appeals process and things like that but you do get examples here of what these things are in terms of what you know what is rude what is this what is a threat what is a scam phishing etcetera etcetera misinformation all those kinds of things so there you go so you can look through that and see what what is what this is what i wanted to take a look at was quazia's comment right now it's 45 so what is the percentage of say the thirty day average d a u that have voted so far right now it's 45% but today's daw is higher than thirty day running average so the thirty day average has been very low so when you see that 92% of those folks have it's it's in the two thousands right now of who has voted so 92% sounds really high but the number of people is still pretty low because we had dropped down so low the daily average user count had dropped down so low that there you know there really weren't that many folks coming every day looks like there's been people who've come back who haven't been around for a while and i've seen quite a few so this has you know gotten some folks attention that's positive in my opinion but we've got about it's probably a little higher now but it said it but quazia had said it's 45% of the dawu that has signed that has come in either signed or not chosen to opt out
this was something you had casted because you had casted this a very long time ago all twitter has become founder moderated twitters that balaji had tweeted four years ago and it's something that you had quoted when we were talking about dwr posting bird pictures and then everybody started posting bird pictures and it was so then you had you had gone to this this tweet that all twitters become their founders so all twitters meaning all social media all twitters become founder moderated twitters farcaster by dwr poster by last contrarian twitter by elon musk and so on for every mastodon this is a huge shift from the zuck jack era from social media as a neutral utility to social media as a founder moderated community at the same time we've also seen a shift towards decentralized social like lens these seemingly opposed trends summed together a previously neutral commons fractures into 1,000 decentralized pieces each with a known sys admin that imbues it with character this concept of technologically similar communities differentiated by moderation has of course already been pre prefigured with e g subreddits but those had their limits platform level intervention often reasonably shut down groups that were too far off from management's norms zuck has chosen a different path he's reduced headaches and gained legitimacy by putting by punting difficult moderation questions to the facebook oversight board as an aside they have trump up for possible reinstatement okay that's we'll skip that part oh that was when oh we should bring him back
yeah when he got kicked off
this was a while ago yeah so talking about moderation and so you know balaji if you buy the platform you get to make the rules is what it comes down to right
and some of it is like it's not listen i think balaji already has put out like a code and has been a little more articulate about this is the type of content and behavior i wanna say i don't think even before that like dan never did that but there was still this element of like he controlled he had influence
right
over what type of content was valued right right so that's what i always found interesting about balaji's tweet from back then was like it actually does matter who's kind of at the top of these different platforms and there's a conversation in the comments form yeah it's a very active chat today maybe we'll try to get to some of them later but it's yeah
to get by the way i never see that when i'm i'm reading it's actually my chat's covered so a lot of a lot of people don't realize that
but there was a chat between cassie and zal zal has a question that i i do wanna try to address but right
about like oh well now that if it's balaji's network you know you have to kind of align to balaji's ideals or you don't get you won't get distribution or no one will see you yada yada but i think that's no different than almost any other platform it seemed like elon's twitter operates the same way yeah i would say on platforms probably like instagram it's less about pleasing zuck it's like pleasing the
using the masses
it's pleasing the advertising yeah right so it's what what works there it's so i don't think there's any any necessarily
you sign terms of services on every single every single social media that you sign up for there are terms of services it's a little terms of service there's it's a little different but i've liter like i mentioned this yesterday when we went when we went live with breaking news that i used to talk about that in my law class that i legal strategies for startups and we talk i'd go through that instagram terms and conditions because the students had never read them and they had no idea and it's like no here's yeah you can be this is how you can lose your account and here's your appeals process you gotta go to california courts like that's what you're agreeing to and the maximum you can recover is a $100 and you've never read this have you so that's a pretty common thing i you know it's it's unusual for this kind of situation where you have some retroactive things happening but not that unusual to be honest it's just we don't see it that often because there are so few high profile social media platforms that we don't see things like this happen on the other hand we what we also don't see is an alternative so there's still a protocol there's still a you can still take your followers with you to another client i downloaded firefly yesterday because i'd never had it before and just because there were a couple people i wanted to see what was going on and if they were posting elsewhere and so i was able to to do that and you can also create your own little mini client if you wanted to and you can be like you know dan who's who's back posting and requesting features which i thought was hilarious i was that was cracking me up and we did have a few other comments
can i address can i address zaal's comment question just before we
yeah go ahead
so go ahead was asking can i build my own client yeah and not be banned not clear can you know all i wanna know is if i make a client that allows protocol users to post in cas am i gonna get dinged for it on the network on
i don't think so no not you if you are not banned on the farcaster client no unless but those who are already banned from the farcaster client those cast won't show up on the farcaster client itself but they'll show on your client so if you look at firefly right now those who are banned on the farcaster client are posting there or any of the other clients that are out there i couldn't quorum i used to have but the i think the beta i'm not sure if something expired so i wasn't able to the test flight expired not the beta so i couldn't get onto that so i downloaded firefly just to be able to see what was going on so yes so if you're banned on the main farcaster client your casts if you're using another client show up in those clients so yeah there you go
and there shouldn't be right like if you think about it like you should be free to build on the protocol period end of like right that that is the vision of diff having different clients that can have different roles right and what you're evaluated on in terms of like the you know the network code that you sign for this you know i actually like that he calls it the farcaster reference client yeah you know a
good terminology
that should be governed differently so you know and i think for experimentation and building things is generally aligned to techno optimist values duckfacts says i i think i can still see banned users even on farcaster and that's probably like after it's been updated and it's
like happening there's weird glitches because that happened to me yesterday as well duck duckfacts where one minute i would see somebody and then a couple minutes later they'd be gone again so i think there's things that aren't quite syncing or something weird's going on because i noticed that as well a couple times where you can search for somebody on the main on the farcaster reference client i'll call it that from now on you can search for somebody and they wouldn't show up and search for them again and they would like there you wouldn't see their name at all and then they would show up so it was it's it was very odd and i think that's just whenever things are getting updated that tends to happen we have weird little glitchy things happening for a couple days so i think that's
yeah
yeah that would be but they're not really obligated to do that so maybe someone else should
also yeah
it's also been less than twenty four hours so yeah you know i think i think rish's rish's rish's
sign like i'm out done
he is done done and honestly if you think about this from a larger perspective balaji is not really incentive incentivized to do that so that's really up to those who are have a alternative client to promote that client that's up to them to do that
and share amongst yourselves right like we know we we know a few
yeah but yeah
they seem to change
farcaster daddy it's yeah he's he's done he signed off he also remember has a small small little baby at home so he's been focused elsewhere alright couple more things on this topic that i wanted to touch on wellesley had said so under the new fc ownership people can be banned based off past casts they hadn't signed any kind of behavior agreement before those casts were made seems kind of heavy handed am i missing something or did i misunderstand the agreement and then this was from the farcaster account accounts had to show a pretty significant pattern of violations to be moderated out based on past casts working to make both the set of rules we use for flagging and the violations public also the appeal process goes to humans not ai and we will review all appeals that come in so again this is the this right here shows you all of the this shows you examples but it shows you all of the what you can be banned for and what they used to look at this so here were the post charges account charges etcetera so a lot of this was based on patterns repeated activity things like that and there were some comments about from people that you know hey like burr was like hey you missed some folks probably around more around the scam phishing etcetera that may not have gotten picked up so you know if you see someone hey that you're like hey this is a total scammer how did they get through flag it for farcaster or send them on dc
if you wanna be that person that's up to you alright what okay we did that i'm trying to get back to where it was okay that can you say hi to mookie for us yeah smookie can you just they say hello he heard a dog outside he was saying hi to his friend or warning them to don't even come anywhere near me this from horsefacts in ooly posting by the way so if you're not familiar with ooly posting in the ooly posting channel you cannot use the letter e or the fifth letter if you will so i'm just impressed by his ability to ooly post so from horsefacts i do actually unironically think it's 100% okay and actually good for a main daddy slash dictator to own this app and call it shots according to a particular vision but i am not a fan of judicial caning for gum importation so my jury is a bit out right now so that was a singapore reference can't chew gum there so and i i kind of i got i i kind of agree with this reference like i'm struggling a little bit with this i 100% agree you buy the platform you make the rules don't have a problem with that and if i choose to agree to the rules or not it's up to me if i was buying farcaster would my rules be different sure they would but i didn't and adrienne's popcorn popcorn proposal didn't go through so this is this is the choice you make you know you decide whether or not you can live with this or not and if you can't you can go to another client or another social media i mean we have choices and those are the choices we make i tend to be lean more towards free speech but also slash i don't like to be harassed by trolls there's plenty of behavior that i've seen on farcaster and other social media that i don't like i don't want to be around and i'm happy to see those people go bye bye like not i don't have a problem with that honestly because they make it a environment that's incredibly difficult to enjoy and like who needs that kind of stress online it's not people i would hang i would wanna see in person so why do i wanna see them on an online platform then you know the the comment can be well you can mute or or ban them you know block them yourself true but if you are the owner of the platform sometimes that becomes a bigger problem for you to allow that behavior to continue so they're making a choice setting the line in the sand and now we know what that line is so there we go
this from tldr necessity for another client it's everybody worked up about and then this from dwr reminder this guide can help your ai agent get a working version of the farcaster client running on your machine so this was from about a month ago from dwr i was able to get the farcaster client this is when they open sourced the farcaster client the client itself not just the protocol the protocol's been open sourced for a while i was able to get the farcaster client running on the ios simulator on my macbook using codecs and gpt 5.6 sole and goal it took two hours and ten minutes and one million one hundred and thirty four nine hundred and thirty eight tokens i then had the agent write a guide for other agents that should help reduce the time to get it running and fewer tokens so there you go you have a guide on how to do this if you do want to create your own so zal i'm sure you've seen that but there you go if you wanna create your own and then this from tldr which i liked this post a lot i used farcaster daily for three plus years i love the people and dwr's builder intellectualism second politics third culture it was a it was refreshing at a time when the world was feeling very suffocating and dull and this was this is where both adrienne and i kinda came in around the same time i think tldr came in around the same time we did i proceeded to find to help found a meaningful venture funded business which was only possible for me because of this uniquely programmable social network last year i wrote why i thought farcaster shared a powerful affinity with balaji network state movement see quote tweet the move to enact this into reality by cutting some people out has alienated many people who are my friends but there is no doubt that it is for the sake of an ambitious meaningful and exciting project and i think a fair one too because others are free to exclude people from their own opt in communities this may be a kind of culture can work better especially digitally and possibly physically i align with the optimistic values set up by the network state's opinionated social smart contract that now governs farcaster and again i believe it makes sense to at least try creating opt in and semi exclusive new societies it's hard that some people had to get cut out for a first try at this and but i believe they can and will also make new versions of communities themselves and can even do it on the farcaster open protocol if you join network state version of farcaster up come say hello to me i'm tldr there and this was his quote cast farcaster is a network space it's bigger than a mere tool but smaller than a full scale social network and although its members are highly animated by a sense of shared purpose it does not aspire to become a state it's a third place like a starbucks or a frat house but richer more internet native more programmable and more scalable than those i don't know what the end state of a network space is but it's pretty amazing to be a part of so there you go
this from d f it's been a minute welcome welcome back regarding the new rules here i think it's an interesting experiment and worthwhile to try to increase the user experience of the feed of the feed experience however it also seems that a lot of slob does not break the rules so i wonder where whether the new rules will adequately improve feed quality using llms for curating content and feeds feels promising and i think that is part of the goal is that which might be you know the llms are good sometimes it's hard to find determine the swap but i've noticed a couple people people couple people who normally reply to everything i say haven't replied to me today so i believe they that might be working so there you go i think that's that's a work in progress oops
and this from chaskin i posted an article on why i'm excited about the new acquisition oops i thought i pulled it up and he wrote about wrote oops someone is still willing to fight for decentralized social media it's pretty long but he started out with i care a lot about decentralized social media and lately that's mostly being mostly meant being disappointed i'd mostly written farcaster off and suddenly someone with the conviction and resources to keep fighting first decentralized social media is taking it on everyone recognizes the problem with social media the algorithms addict us to brain rot and make us mad at each other but when most people talk about solutions they usually talk about quitting entirely or getting regulators to make these companies behave better neither changes the underlying incentive the company makes money by keeping you scrolling and it knows you won't leave because everyone you know is there so kinda continues on and gives his his opinion on that as well as other types of social media but it's a good read and nice to see chaskin sharing sharing that i missed this one from kenny is constructive criticism allowed in singapore and then he had written this a couple months ago gm network school makes the same strategic mistake as early digital cash companies e cash e gold we're directionally correct about nonstate money but we're too centralized balaji is directionally correct about the need for a nonstate states but this is this experiment is too centralized and i i don't know if he'll see see this and comment on it but i'll be curious to kind of ask him about this also because i think that he commented about this when he talked with vitalik and i shared that interview where he said he wants a 100 network states run by a 100 other balajis like that he doesn't want he eventually wants to fade away but for now that's not possible and then they talked about vitalik and zuzulu and in that experiment so again like that was a really interesting conversation that i'd point everybody to go take a peek at because it will give you some insight into his thinking as well and we're hoping to have him on we'll see we're trying to coordinate with him now to ask him some of these questions for sure working on it brad working on it i didn't even see that comment and i was saying the
words he was typing it as you started answering
yeah we're working on it we're we did like we even threw him a link to today's show and just said hey if you wanna pop in but we figured that wasn't gonna happen it's 9pm his time and he was a little busy yesterday
we don't know where he is though
oh i'm assuming
if he's in kazakhstan if he's back in kazakhstan it's only 6pm
that's a good point but still sing a first
twelve hours i don't know where he is but we'll get him apparently doesn't sleep either so we'll yeah we'll make it work
we're working on we're working on coordinating that i mean we're in a chat to try and figure that out this from you this is from adrienne for many of it regions i dig this vision as a lifelong learner engineer tech early adopter crypto enthusiast optimist mother of three business owner ben you're busy and being earnest in hardworking with a sense of humor it's true she does have a sense of humor this vision speaks to me and not just because i'm old enough to know who goofus and gallant are which i i'm disappointed in myself
really like the the highlights reference
i completely missed that it sounds orthogonal to the sufficiently decentralized social network vision that brought me here and it's different from the builder first and identity ownership promises a la read write own that i'm passionate about and i'm not sure if this has the same build your business on farcaster allure so while i mourn for lack of a better word those visions which didn't come to be i can still be filled with excitement looking forward to the experiment and seeing it develop and looking forward to talking about it on g m farcaster and i kinda feel the same like i that's where i'm at right now i'm feeling very and i've been feeling this for a while i've been feeling this this whole year
mhmm
honestly since yeah early when things started to get very contentious after neynar took over and like you could feel the vibe shift on the timeline even a little before that when base app and everything went down with that and that vision didn't work out and all of that happened there's like that loss of what i thought farcaster was gonna be and feeling that grief for lack of a better word and i've been feeling that for months months and months i'd say six months it's probably longer it's probably more like nine so there's that but there's also a openness willingness to see what's next and to kinda see this through so we're we got some you know criticism of oh well you've made your choice no not really we i do wanna see this through i've always been very interested in the concept of a network state i talked about this before four years ago did a book club with a bunch of people in nouns to think about how does nouns could nouns be a network state as we like read the network state book and had a discussion and did all of that i've been in a jillion daos most of them you know it's not they're difficult they're challenging but i find it interesting i find the concept of governance outside of what we currently have interesting so there's a lot of aspects of this that i find very interesting and i'm here for the experiment and you may feel differently and that what is great is that you can go build your own client and i'm gonna be interested in those experiments also it doesn't mean i have to choose and if you're making me choose you're gonna be disappointed in my choice because if you back me into a corner i'm gonna have an opinion if you let me be i'm gonna like watch things play out and we're gonna continue to talk about those things and see how those experiments work out but i would highly recommend that if you're trying to back me into a corner you don't do that because it's not it's not gonna go well it's just not
don't care i for don't care for that
anyway yeah we did a lot of we did oh what is milk and cookies
cynthia said bring back milk and cookies i assume you know what that is i was like i don't know what milk and
cookies to do a lot of spaces with nouns and one of the dows that i was in was food nouns and we did a space called milk and cookies and it was yeah it was with somebody else who's no longer around there's a lot of people who are no longer around who i used to do spaces with i've gone through a lot of like you know grieving over the years of a lot of things so things come and go nouns is still here just in a very not a form that we particularly care for right now anyway it's the same thing with farcaster like i'm here for the experiment i've been here for the experiment you know since early days and i think you know it's gonna keep changing and we're gonna see how it goes okay
and it doesn't mean it doesn't mean we we i i guess i'll just speak for myself that i endorse every single thing that's coming from new owners i can still have independent opinions yep and i think like you like i'm max freedom max choice so like if someone didn't have the opportunity like i don't know i i i generally am am am pro choice so when i just you know when i when i minted my nft and signed my pledge like if that was a one way door and it said i wasn't allowed to you know express my opinions on any other social network like yeah probably wouldn't have signed it yeah yeah but
so yeah i mean it's it's yeah
it's a little crazy yeah by the way there's like a whole nouns discussion here we don't have time for that that's a whole other conversation
but anyway yeah the nouns the nouns fork was a whole thing we we don't have time for that pain
i do think you know i do i do like the way you put this i think it's we have to do a wait and see here you know we have to do a wait and see
well i
yeah like and actually give it a chance because i feel like that's exactly what didn't happen with neynar is allowing the team to have that opportunity to build their vision out and see if it works like let's let's see yeah i do like the idea of getting back to the irl as well because i've always loved the idea of the url to irl i loved farcaster fridays i'd love to see something like that come back we did an online version of that would love to do that again
mhmm
i think that would be fun
the things that brought me to to farcaster
were those things like these blog posts when you described like why i mean this was written a long time ago it's like it spoke to me i was like yes i believe that the idea of owning an identity where you weren't fully tied to a platform and you can kind of port it over like that really spoke to me the idea of attracting developers who could build and get an audience and own your identity right so you don't have to really spoke to me the idea of building a business on top of farcaster and kind of like a growing economy like that really spoke to me and it's it didn't change yesterday like it kind of started having a slower death
oh yeah
so i'm kind of with you of yeah i've been kinda mourning the loss of that vision all year mhmm probably even before markle gave up like you know it was like the going back to like trader focus is probably when i lost my probably about a
year ago
being here
probably about a year ago yeah
yeah so and
that's when we lost a lot of people who were active on the on the protocol on the yeah on farcaster who who left who we really enjoyed you know like ted like heckers you know it was nice to see heckers pop in yesterday like those folks heckers
i like i saw a bunch of people coming back and you were like
oh like like if that brings some of those folks back i'm you know i'm here for it
and i have i'm super sympathetic to people i've been interacting with as a daily user that are not on farcaster i'm super sympathetic to that i i'm it's painful well like i it it hurts like i i don't feel good about it i'm not like gleeful it it doesn't mean i agree with how it was done but know and there's a nuance here
and everyone wants it to be black and white and easy and it it it's this choice or that choice and it's not there is some nuance here and if you don't see that that's fine you can make it very black and white but in it's not it's just not there's a lot of lot of names
and i i think cassie is not in the chat anymore so she's gonna miss but i know a lot of kind of her feelings is like that
i i wanna say we but i don't even mean we because that's i don't know what we means but it's that there's no respect for dissenting opinion you kind of like get in or or get out or or whatnot i don't personally feel that way no i appreciate all different types of viewpoints and i but even the idea of like cassie has been rallying all year for our network and there's people who resonate with what she has to say and her vision yeah and she is a founder led she will have her own founder led network with her own moderation roles and that's great that that can exist and it wouldn't it also be good if you can have a digital passport and not be you know like that you're actually not behind a wall in these in the digital spaces and can move between and whatnot so
yeah
i don't know why i went down that road oh so going back to my post of these were the things i liked about farcaster i don't see this is what i wanted to address one of her comments was like would she's upset because it felt like a lot of this new stuff is anti like it goes against kind of the vision of farcaster from before but there's a new owner like it it it may or may not but it's almost like right yeah so do i feel i i think some people i think she feels betrayed
yeah then i get that
yeah but i've always been i like i i know i told you and i i kind of casted this like i read the network i've been following balaji for a while and i when he wrote his book i remember preordering it got the nft read it when it came out and i highlighted more in that book than any other book i've read in a long time like it so all this to say is i i'm kind of i i dig his vision like i separate from farcaster so that's why it's like a weird thing because i think we have become this kind of voice for farcaster
right
and we've been here
as missionaries not mercenaries
right
so anyway that's why i feel like i need to like kind of justify my positioning but that's all
yep by the way i like this i'm not a mother of three but adrienne's post speaks to me so much yeah i agree i am only a mother of one and and saul sorry i didn't mean to yell at you that's why we're talking in the chat like we can't deal with the nouns for because like that's why we're talking in the chat
like we didn't expect
you to answer
was he in zally a noun very yeah
he owns a noun but it was a fairly recent one so he missed some of the some of the stuff that happened but like that's a that's a whole other thing but symbio if he's still in there if he's still in the chat he might be gone we'd be able to answer a lot of that okay we've got a few other things there are examples
yeah oh yes i don't see an example of bans of people who disagree only examples of profanity laced insults yeah exactly sarcasm that likely could appeal yes i agree with that they shouldn't have to appeal but yes yeah there's some where like that might happen or you're yelling at a bot or you're yelling at a scammer you know some of those things yeah oh symbiote i was just saying symbiote could could answer zoll's questions about the fork anyway we've got a few more things to chat about on this topic and then a few builder things that we wanna get to i loved this from duckfacts farcaster right now
it's just warplits warplits fighting though but is is it all fighting
fighting warplits just going crazy i'm assuming this is the fall of rome but warplits style funny just thought that was funny also from adrienne i wrote a children's book with anti tribalism theme it's based on a old mongolian folklore about a bat who is forced to choose sides when a battle erupts between land animals and and the birds being both a mammal and a creature who can fly the bat goes to whichever side is winning at the time when peace comes neither side claims the bat as their own because the bat's behavior was seen as cowardly and he didn't take a stand and that's why the bat was destined to live out its life in the dark and alone that's us first time
we are the bats
we are the bat there you go first time i read the folktale all i could think about was how tribal the world has become and how social media often tries to force us to choose between two options i wrote a modern folktale where the bat is a hero because the bat understands both sides and brings all the animals together i have a physical book proof of the book making final rounds of edits and we'll be self publishing as soon as i can and i love that
i've been talking about this book for years on farcaster apparently not enough because i think some people still were like oh i didn't know so yeah i wrote this story years ago my sister hand painted every freaking page i'm so excited it's beautiful publish yeah i have like just proof i have a physical copy
proof of bat
and she muted herself as she does
now i i'm so excited anyway but yeah so
let me make you bigger so you can show that yeah it's amazing it's amazing so cool she's seen
and do you
see the fox yeah i see the fox i do see the fox
anyway so in this folktale like literally it was like the all the animals were like oh bet you didn't choose a side during this battle so therefore you have no friends for the rest of your life and i was like first of all they didn't even tell us what the battle was about just the poor land animals and the birds were just fighting and i understood the the the theme which was like have you know don't be a coward but like
right
what who what was the bat supposed to do the bat like should it join the birds it can fly should it join the land animals it's a mammal yeah so i am and i am biracial i'm a woman who's an engineer i've been in like very male dominated spaces so i just very much when i read this like really
identified with the bat totally rewrote a story where the bat's the hero anyway that's how i feel and that is how i feel because on twitter right now my dimensions are full of a lot of people telling me i suck sorry i'm not like choosing sides i want everybody to win so so cat's cat's ready to buy thanks cat i'll send i'll actually donate a lot send you some
yep yes to crypto there's a quote from the trees underneath is it i think it's from the trees underneath my no it's from close to the heart underneath my picture and my ear but i love the trees
that's for people all who are older like if you're too old to know goofus and gallant
yeah
you might know the trees by rush
i you know i'm sure i knew goofus and gallant at some point because i mean it's highlights but you definitely know the trees by rush if you're my age anyway i'm hoping if you have any musical taste if you have any musical taste
i i wanna turn that into a just a mascot for yeah
i love that
for antitribalism
yes i love the antitribalism and also all i can think of is it's always sun sunny meme i'm playing both sides so i always end up on top yeah we'll see how that goes it's it has not been easy we do this a lot team bat alright
nice pizza
nice pizza alright few more things few more things not too much left to chat about i think we've beat this horse this from topocount topocount who is moved on with the team so he is with topocount quazia farcaster intern a few other members of the neynar team who aren't really active on farcaster have continued on with the network state crew so this from topocount a new snapchain releases out node runners will want to upgrade before thursday october 22 we greatly appreciate the chance to work with christopher and uno and jacek and others at degen excited to help the protocol evolve and make the concept of an of a network state a more powerful primitive online and on chain so i assume this means that uno and yasic are no longer running validators i'm not exactly sure is that how i took it but maybe maybe not i wasn't sure about that anyway there you go if you're running a node update
did you see symbiote tag warpee
yes symbiote you can't tag warpee
you gotta tag us
probably should let him tag warpee he's actually pretty good at curating we can do that we should give him the power and then this from k mac there's a part this is interesting there is we read this earlier the only limitation is the same one this is regarding clients if you're creating a client it's the same one the ethereum foundation implements you can't use farcaster warpcast neynar network state or network school related names in any launch any coin token or commercial project and then k mac asked so does gm farcaster need a name change this kind of makes sense but i thought the name and marks were creative commons zero prof werder do you recall the name was never cc zero per se also really can't it's not really a thing that's more related to art and actual content so the arch the original arch although i'm not sure about this one but the original arch was c c zero i think this one too and then that was released by dwr all the nfts they used to do were cc zero all that stuff but the name was never specifically and we essentially had permission by default like they never stopped us from using it you know he came on and was a guest many many times so they allowed us to use the name without any issue if farcaster's gonna continue to be the protocol i would assume there wouldn't be any issue but we really haven't had that conversation so it's really you know something we need to discuss there's an argument to be made so now i'm putting on my trademark lawyer hat for those who don't know that used to be my i've had many professions my first one out of law school was i did work in trademark research that was my area of law so there's an argument to be made that we've now established first use of gm farcaster for media etcetera etcetera anyone else who tried to use that beyond the farcaster protocol itself owners of that we would have very strong case am i going to fight balaji in court over trademark maybe maybe no absolutely not
don't show your card ridiculous prof don't show your cards right now
that would be ridiculous so if we continue on it would be with their permission i'm sure so but we'll see we you know that's that's not a conversation we've had i don't think it's on anyone's radar they balaji knows about us he's planning to come on there's been no discussion of that and it's not like we're making any money right now anyway commercial enterprise is a big word
it is the vision for far the vision for gm farcaster was like we can do media and as the farcaster economy grows there will be companies that wanna advertise and builders that right want distribution and we can help with that and there was a lot of promise for that but that kinda dried up not recently and yeah we con we continue for the love of the game we are making we are eking out revenue this year through shout outs
yeah shout outs through shout
outs i'm kinda kidding about that
we did run the clanker ecosystem fund there was a there was an admin fee with that which was helpful but it was a lot more work you know beyond what we were doing clanker was a sponsor
for a while sponsor in the beginning of the year before markle by the way speaking clanker
we've gotten a lot of questions about that we the new owner of clanker is not network state that has not been announced yet there will be somebody else yes you have we've we're only three years in we've got
two years ago we
just took
a wait i haven't finished my list of ways we are making money this year and we have patrons
we have patrons
we have high risk patrons and we would have
quit two years ago except we can't because we signed
a contract with yes to crypto we have to we
have to keep going
for five years
and that's why yes to crypto is the only one who can curate with warpee that's literally the reason
he he paid for it
we gave him we gave him the power and he's the only one who has that power which is hilarious so that's why that's
why he's news if anyone knows any companies that wanna sponsor gm
yeah
broadcaster well yes we we stopped even trying
yes who has you held hostage yeah pretty much we love yes to crypto he was he's just been amazing by the way if you don't know if you don't know you should we just adore and by the way
yes so
go ahead
oh sorry i said people have been asking so it's like my guess is it has to just do with the various entities like the yeah don't think i think network state is a concept network school is an entity
so correct yeah
would be my guess
so we're we're probably using the wrong terminology when i say that so gm broadcaster i don't i don't know about that that seems interesting and weird not really a fan of being called abroad maybe yeah i know
women who like being called called broads
i mean i wouldn't hate it i wouldn't love it though you know it's kind of old school it's kinda old school
okay oh you're like my father-in-law
talk about like the and
i'm like so i don't know whether to be offended or not but somehow it's like i don't really
i don't yeah that one doesn't really there's bigger fish to fry
my one of my first broke process that's
hey zoll just said down to pay if i can curate now curating doesn't mean we always use your use your things but we'll we'll talk about that we'll discuss
you don't have to use my curations
yeah we don't necessarily use the curation but we do it it does bring it to our attention and most of the time we do it's mostly like a time thing or sometimes something's been curated a couple times word of the day has been what's sustaining a lot of our gm farcaster lab development and paying for a lot of expenses honestly
yes
yeah
so clank clank
clank clank
can i can i give us a clank for nostalgic's sake
yeah go for it and then hopefully we'll we'll have news about that soon oh broad should be word of the day
aqueous that's funny alright i haven't clanked in a while so i'm not sure if it's working i'm assuming it is okay couple other things in the world going on this was interesting introducing the cheeky pint benchmark we made our intern watch every episode of cheeky pint to bring you this breakdown of pints drank by guests to the nearest sixth congratulations to elon musk who is currently in the lead with three full pints of guinness so this was i assume based on the zuck the new zuck meme of him drinking a guinness and making a face and people commenting but the reason i pulled this is look who's number five
henry's henry
far from henry current the new the new ceo of stripe crypto formerly privy so that is pretty cool we know somebody on this list isn't that cool so i just wanted to point that out that was the only reason i pulled up this was funny from so geesmike got into a discussion with warpee and asked to how asked warpee how you would describe adrienne and nounish prof's temperament did misgender me but that's okay we'll leave with that and adrienne is warm upbeat reassuring and playful she often diffuses status anxiety it's not your worth there you go might wanna throw that up again right now and keeps the show grounded and friendly and actually gave a reference nounish prof organized curious wryly funny and host forward he no leads explains details and nudges conversations forward adrienne had a problem with organized and i said on the show i am organized in every other area of my life not as much i am very organized in certain things when i run the show when i run my classroom incredibly organized like to a fault yeah other than that things things get away yeah still need to do my expenses that didn't happen
and by the way just so people know i've casted about this i'm in the process of completely redoing warpee's like foundation of all the knowledge he has so in the past all warpee really had were like the list of casts we've had on shows but just like plain text transcript of our show but it doesn't say who said what it's just like a vomit of of words so now warpee's getting speaker labels as well as screenshots of our show so warpee is actually watching watching the show so you might ask warpee today or yes you know was my cast ever mentioned and it'll tell you which shows warpcast will now be able to tell you when in the show your cast was mentioned so that and link you to the youtube video at that moment so for all the people who wanna see what we've said about you like when we tag you and say your cast has been mentioned you'll get like the the second the the time stamped time
and it's still a work in progress still a work
in progress
by the way my because my internet went out yesterday only half of those that i was uploading yesterday so i gotta go back and figure out which ones didn't load anyway that's neither here nor there a couple more things this from igor this was kinda cool set up a paper trade bot on banker with a few chat messages it moved my usdc from base into paper trade in one go a cron checks my account every fifteen minutes and if nothing's open it fires off a btc long at 100 x take profit at two x my margin and stop loss at half are set the second each trade opens losing trades meant paper and it stakes them automatically to earn usdc i pick long or short and the agent handles every trade after that fun experiment while farming some paper go here banker bot banker.bot/papertrade or simply ask how does paper trade work and banker will guide you through the rest i just thought that was cool paper trade is a new paper is a new thing that people are playing around with so just thought that was cool that they already got banker on it if you want to check that out and no we are not sponsored by banker but you know we are open to that guys we talk about you a lot just because you're doing cool stuff this from zherring speaking of cool stuff and people we talk about a lot agents running multiple splits treasuries is such a huge unlock props to julio for landing on such a clean ux have some hack time set aside tomorrow we'll demo how i'm using this between my many side projects so make sure you're following zherring and check out what they're doing with splits but very cool to see that and if you haven't looked at there was a little bit more info in the blog post we've talked about their blog posts are so good including just their change logs you get a lot of information so go check that out at splits.org/changelog you'll see it there
this was cool from shibuyfanker can you explain what happened in this txn hash this transaction is an on chain ip rights attestation on base for demure the agent fabrication service status confirmed on base sender contract method attest attest attest l i p attest ip what happened demure uses this minimal registry to store an immutable 32 byte hash confirming that the requester owns or is authorized to print the design artwork no funds were moved it just recorded the time stamped proof on chain for the print job so the reason i pulled this again ip lawyer hat back on i thought that was really a cool idea and a way so for a lot of ip copyright especially the it doesn't become enforceable until it's in its tangible form so sometimes you have to prove when exactly that happened this is an interesting way to prove it on chain and just thought that was pretty cool and then you can also establish what rights are available if it was cc zero if it was cc buy whatever or if it was just full copyright protection so i thought that was cool is always doing some cool stuff this from jellyfish oh only three left alive now in the lobby nfl survivor 48 eliminated wow
you're one of two
you're a finest i'm of three oh here we go
what's the third
big week it's kasiris it's me jellyfish and
kasiris okay i thought the three
of us yeah jellyfish posted it but it's it's us three so we're left in the in the lobby nfl survivor so here we go big week big week good luck not gonna say who i'm who i have picked because i don't want them to pick the same one so we'll see what happens this also from the lobby they're doing every wednesday word wednesday so if you have not checked that out the trivia on wednesdays is all word related and it's sponsored by letterloops xerox judd the omniacs theomaniacs and you earn i a c s when you play and it's really fun so if you're a word person if you're not normally a trivia person i'd say go check it out on wednesdays and also you can learn a little something so there you go and lastly this from our friend mike.eth thank you to everyone who bet on birds this season i really should have kept going the feeder is now quiet as the birds take their liquidity elsewhere for the winter very cute shout out to emily junior with a 137 p and l this season earning the number one spot look who's at number four in the hall of feathers and number four is adrienne very well done there there you go go make sure

i know
i should go check that out too i don't know if
i you know i'm doing that right now this is what do when you bring
someone on screen anytime i bring something up that's what she does
oh yes to crypto has a question can we go back to timing why did they not do this so we could go at network state conference they originally were going to but the the team who was running the network state conference the team including balaji they were running the network state conference and it just became too much to do at the same time but that was that was that was why they didn't do it there but the original plan was to do it last friday at the conference so there you go there's your answer by the way if you don't you know you may not recall this if you haven't been around for a while but two years ago ted was at the network state conference talking about farcaster and last year dan was he was via via video via an interview a video interview so farcaster has been discussed as a in the concept of a network state for years so there's that that's why i've always watched the stuff from the conference because there's always some interesting things there yeah they were just busy yes crypto there was just too much it was too much to to do at the same time but that was the original plan alright anything else adrienne before we wrap this up
oh i think we've said it all
i think we have to it's been a lot it has been a lot thanks everybody for hanging with us this morning it's been
oh you shared ted's talk yeah i should go back and look at that
cassie's having a call later so for those who are interested in the hypersnap fork go check that out you can follow her over on twitter for that information cassie i think it's cassie on mars something like that cassie underscore on mars so go check that out and anything else i think we're good i think that's it we'll be back monday i think i think i think that's the plan time tbd because again we're trying to get balaji on if we can get him on on monday i doubt it will happen but we might be on at an earlier time to accommodate so we'll let you know and farcon kazakhstan could happen probably not singapore my guess would be kazakhstan but we'll see we shall see but also you can do your own farcon that's always a possibility it has been done before
alright
or a near or a near con
or a near con or a faraway con
or a farcaster friday
or a farcaster friday i would be excited for those to come back as a formal thing not a formal formal thing but like as an organized thing where multiple people are doing it for those who don't remember that ted had organized those we had a channel for farcaster fridays people would post what they were doing sometimes it was two people meeting up on an island somewhere and then sometimes it was a bigger meetup in new york or la and we did poker online we'd have people come play poker and watch and hang out and it was a lot of fun so i hope yeah i don't think i don't think spelling errors get you get you banned so i you know i hope to see that come back that would be fun i would like to see that so anyway with that everybody happy friday for real this time last dude show today for the team oh oh i didn't know that that for a season is that ever
