because he knew we weren't gonna hit it and also he posted a message a very cryptic message earlier that day and said it's gonna be a really interesting weekend on farcaster and it was so we have a big the major announcement introducing group direct casts on warpcast live on mobile and web web groups can have up to 100 members you can only invite people following you if you don't follow someone you they cannot invite you to a group you can leave a group at any time you can also mute a group that's too noisy and this has led to lots of fun a few other direct a couple other posts from dan if you have a direct cast feature request drop it in this thread if you were the benevolent dictator of war cast for direct cast feature what would you have us work on and the replies or likes that are most weighted will be implemented and what i've seen over and over again emoji reaction emoji reaction please and reply to be able to reply directly to a person because the it just gets hard to follow but that's been the 2 that i've seen over and over again being discussed how about you what were your thoughts on that

secret but so everyone's around to try it but what i what i mean by kind of the best of forecaster is you have this active engaged community that you drop something new and people will use it immediately and try to like push the boundaries and see you know it's like use it in ways you wouldn't have done it so like the chats just got so silly
so silly and fun and people experimenting and that's what oh i wanted to shout that out so let's talk about first of all we have to talk about the cabals this is my my background so let's talk about just so we can so everyone's in on the joke first rule of the cabal you don't talk about the cabal this is the nouns cabal but that was sort of the fun joke of like you know now it for those who may not be familiar if you're listening to this and you're like i have no idea what a cabal is secret society but also there's been this thing discussed on crypto twitter for a while about the cabals that kind of run the pump and dumps right that they're coming from these telegram chats or whatever and then you know so there's whole whole like meme around that so far cast or kind of jumped on that meme and so you kept seeing all these cabals quote unquote cabals pop up there's an this is the nouns cabal there's a bar cabal so it was kind of becoming this joke of like these secret societies so there was that but then there was also some really cool experiments so i wanna shout out to cassie who started a group chat where you you get voted out and there's a new one so it's the hunger games group chat and there's a new one and there were still spots available as of last night so if you would like to jump in but you might get voted out that's part of the deal so the experiment is a group chat experiment i would like to conduct the first 64 people who comment on this post will be added if you're following you have to follow her by the way good way to get new followers at the end of 24 hours of the commencement everyone will vote for someone else to be removed you cannot vote for yourself the 32 users with the highest vote will be removed and then it goes on from there may the odds be ever in your favor and she's starting that again and then we had steve over here doing a something similar but the whole thing was you have to not talk so it's a little interesting and then the state of farcaster 2024 from cameron it's all the people do not say anything you cannot talk in this chat and then alex said i can't take it anymore put me out of my misery and he was removed so it's been interesting to see people doing different things with group chats so what have you seen kinda that's kinda grabbed your attention and and what did you think about all that kind of activity
i just know if i were if i were dan and varun and putting out group chats i would not have expected hunger games to be one of the first implementations of a new feature so no me neither
i kinda love it mute c d c dc but no mute channel i know right there's you can mute the d the direct cast group but you still we still have a mute channel which is interesting cause that was the feature i thought was coming but this was definitely more major for sure and monkey dealings is still alive in case in cassie's hunger games so we'll see we'll see what happens and there are alliances and all these kind of interesting things popping up but i love seeing people experiment with the features it's it's really fun it's really really fun we do have oops okay hopefully we're still connected i'm like i got a little

a little yeah we might have had a little for a second but hopefully yep stream offline are we back on hopefully we're back on in the chat if you can hear me please confirm that we're back on okay hopefully we there it's back now great thank you so much and speaking of our amazing chat that's the first chat i started was a gm farcaster group chat and i started with just a few of our usual amazing chatters who i see a couple today in our chat or john and links down there thanks and we so we started a gm farcaster group dc with a few of our usual amazing chatters we'll shoot out reminders there too but we'll mostly use it to continue the combo after the live stream so if you'd like to be added to the gm faster cabal i mean chat reply here so and i do think we have the cutest group chat icon of all time so this is my opinion but whatever so jump in there if you'd like to be added just reply on that cast and we'll add you to the chat and we are back so yay yay so i yeah it's interesting to see all these different approaches to the group chats for sure so we'll see how they develop over time i think there'll be some obviously people get bored and you know it won't be as much activity as things develop i'm also in the dj and dow chat which is a whole different vibe it's really interesting to see the different vibes of these different chats what's been any other observations about group chats that you're you're noticed or anything you wanna add to that
well i just i wanna know your prediction on if and when so everyone complains about chat just all the tool the proliferation of it's like there's just too many so between discord and telegram and and all the newer ones and whatsapp and imessage and and yeah yeah and
so at some point right now we just have one more thing to one more thing where there's kind of noise and it's
not really replacing anything yet yet
every i mean nothing i've never seen anything replaced right it just it adds

but the idea of kind of forecaster as a protocol being a primitive to social so maybe maybe we're a decade away if we're inventing a new web but wouldn't it be cool if wouldn't it be cool it could actually replace and we could like knock something else out
by the way if you're ever trying to reach me on telegram it's it's gonna be tough i'm just gonna lay it out i am the worst on telegram for some reason i have this block where it just like i don't think to look at it and you know i don't pay attention to notifications so it's it's tough so yes i would love to see i am on war cast so much that like that's gonna get my attention quicker and easier than something like telegram that i just don't check that often so discord is still i think a much different animal because there's so much other integration into discord and sort of the archival nature of it that i don't think a group chat just like i don't think telegram replaces discord at least not for me and it i don't think it'll group chats will replace discord either but it may replace telegram if long as we can get a couple more features in there but we shall see we shall see but it's interesting to see it all popping off and i'm looking forward i am in the second hunger games games i shall report back on wednesday if i am still alive at the moment i'm not

the phone because no one's allowed to talk about it so we can't talk about it first rule of cabals you don't talk about cabals okay moving on we covered this is from dan we covered at the last developer call in 2023 but the top priority for 2024 is dau growth so daily active user growth it's the overwhelming top request from developers they want to see a farcaster with tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands daily active users to to be to grow their apps best path to do this is through warp cast so then there was a little bit in the q and a that dan did he rich had asked a question when you talk about growing daos are they protocol level daos writing to the protocol or work cast level daos could include users who are lurkers but don't write and dan talked about the 99 one rule and i thought this was interesting 90 the 90 lurk on mobile so until there's a robust mobile client alternative to warpcast warpcast will drive most of the dow i suspect the first non warp cast successes will be a power user paid client like supercast a modable open source client or an app that does something totally different so this is interesting it's you know i'm obviously we'd love to see 100 of thousands of users on forecast who aren't on for caster so it's there's a lot of you know interesting dependencies going on within the ecosystem that i i'm finding you know very different from any other social platform if you think about it like twitter doesn't care you know you're you know people building on there's a there's an a little bit of a dependency if you're building on twitter but twitter doesn't care about that like that's not their focus so it's a very different sort of thought process so any thinking on that what do you think about that
yeah well look twitter's already it's there or x is too massive it's already gotten there right so it has but how did it grow i mean it started enabling apis and and kind of fostering growth that way and it wasn't replacing twitter

right i mean the idea like you're not gonna replace you have to create something

so yes there is a burrah like we don't want to we don't want to you know not mention a burrah obviously a little different we have a different approach it's more audio but obviously another great place to get your forecast news for sure also i thought this was interesting tim tldr gave some advice on how to build your first 500 followers so if you're new on here on warpcast on farcaster 1 bias towards replying bias toward genuineness bias bias toward follow first putting these together write a genuine reply to someone you find interesting and follow the person at that exact moment repeat a 1,000 times quick follow-up to this use genuineness on your bio i always look at someone's profile before i follow them we can say air dropper or hide i just love crypto i don't think lots of you but i fear you might spam my feed don't be afraid to be super real 10 years in sales diehard bull fan i'd follow here something like that and so you flagged this cast for me and this got a little bit of attention whether i follow someone back on here that i don't know is so dependent on the pfp it's funny i auto follow noggles penguins of course purple absolutely and then it gets interesting for me so that turned into an interesting discussion but i thought it it kind of like really flowed into oh i love it when i do this it really flowed into the the conversation that tim was talking about and you know what makes somebody follow back we have a lot of new followers this week that was the other thing i noticed and i think it's due to the coinbase wallet promotion so there's a lot of you know new people on the on the on the timeline and it's really like for me sorting out i don't auto follow everybody like i definitely look i look at the bio but i look at the pfp and that gives me a much quicker like indication and if it's an if it's if it's noggles i'm gonna follow it like automatically so just you know little hint if you're trying to get me to follow you back there's some goggles on there but there's also some pfps that i'm like i'm not following that and i do look at the bio so i you know if you're genuine if you're you know a real human who's doing something cool i'm going to follow you even if you have no other followers so there was somebody you know who mentioned do you fall do you follow this do you follow that and we're dropping replies on my post and i'm like i'll go look at it and go yeah sure i'll follow i'll follow you it's you look interesting so that's kinda my approach what do you how do you determine who you fall back and don't is it similar to what tim said

i auto follow but similar i'm you know you're looking at a bio and then i'll also kind of quickly glance at what were the last 2 3 4 5 casts made and if it looks like oh that could be something interesting this is someone who's posting something i'd wanna learn about or engage with then i follow i think because so many new people are joining so fast i'm not i'm not actually actively looking at new followers so i what the other thing i'll tend to do is we if i have someone who engages like people who are engaging or responding back to me and oh i haven't seen this name before let's see who it is then kind of follow back
i definitely do that if somebody kinda comes through my feed in some way either they've replied in someone else's or i or they reply to something i've said and there's something interesting i'll definitely dig in but i will go through my followers every once in a while i'll look at that notification and just kinda go or who's following gm farcaster channel as well so i've been following back on those to make sure that we're connected
and i don't know if we talked about what ted was posting last week about mhmm kind of like not to focus on i mean i don't focus on follower count or following count it's just about kind of the quality of yep my experience in farcaster and then and even this if i notice that like oh my experience is downgrading i'm not getting enough then i'll go in and say okay i need to increase who i'm following and we had a good conversation with dewolfie about this he said he went too far then had to call back
