this episode was recorded at eath denver live from the podcast studio thanks so much to their crew especially dan and aaron we rolled for two hours and rotated guests in and out this episode is part two with matthew and brylee from juicebox thanks so much for sitting down with jamfarcaster to chat about juicebox and the tornado cash dev case here we go

0:29Speaker 1

chris took yours we're just rotating people in and out so just pop the headphones on you're gonna talk a little bit close to the mic and we're just gonna start just chatting and that's it you're gonna hear us yeah

0:39Speaker 2

amazing

0:39Speaker 3

you were told to kiss the mic

0:41Speaker 1

it's the mic not not actually but just get close yeah so now we're we're gonna get just kenny kenny rolling this is jam for caster mini interviews at east denver and we're rolling in all different folks from around the far caster ecosystem and we have matthew b and riley here who are both building juicebox so first of all we want to just bring you in and talk about like what are you doing at east denver like what's your focus what have you been you know what's been what what have you been up to what's been happening

1:11Speaker 2

yeah so there's a juice box hacker house so we've been hanging there for most of the conference so far so yeah django and philip and yeah a lot of the other developers and juicebox folks are over there so we've been chilling there

1:26Speaker 1

so that's been fun what are they hacking anything good have you seen anything cool yet

1:30Speaker 2

well there's a lot of things going on i would say the main thing django and crew are working on a banny verse project which is our kind of cultural mascot annie who's the banana yeah mascot of juicebox

1:46Speaker 3

i yeah i love last night who was

1:49Speaker 1

okay now we understand like banny love we got a little banny love with our pfps and we're like

1:53Speaker 4

i have a banny nft

1:54Speaker 1

love it

1:55Speaker 4

i got a banny nft

1:56Speaker 3

drop from kmac

1:58Speaker 2

oh amazing

1:58Speaker 1

yeah we both have banny ffts like what is this we're like we're not sure what this is but we like it it's durable

2:03Speaker 3

i'm not

2:04Speaker 1

sure what it is so cute

2:06Speaker 2

yeah so they're they're working on this whole minting experience where you can kind of make your own banny with these different outfits and it's all gonna be on chain svg like nfts so it's gonna be very very cool so that's definitely one thing and what i don't know what else

2:21Speaker 1

anything that you that you've seen at the hacker house or anything around east denver that's related to juice box that you've been in loving

2:28Speaker 4

in loving mostly just being able to connect with the juicebox crew in person because everyone is remote from like around the world so it's really nice to actually connect with the people that you work with in the dao and you know it just brings that bond together like a lot better

2:45Speaker 1

absolutely yeah i think that's been a big thing for us too it's just meeting up with people who we we know from farcaster from other areas and being able to connect to them and be real oh yeah you can move that it's just gonna slide right off we're like can we put these on we promise they'll come right off but they're barely staying on so don't worry about it it's it's just for the it's just for the view but it's it's really fun and the other thing i wanted to chat with both of you about is what you've been doing for the tornado cash devs who are dealing with some legal issues do you want to talk a little bit about that and whoever wants to take that question to kind of talk about what it is you're doing what's that all about and how people can help support if they're if they want to learn more

3:26Speaker 4

yeah so basically we had amin soleimani from justice dao reach out to juicebox about doing a legal fundraiser for the tornado cash developers herman storm and alex kritsev they had launched their own campaign on a different crowdfunding platform and it wasn't really gaining a lot of traction so they came to juicebox because a lot of juicebox's most popular projects are fundraisers when you think of constitutiondao assangedao moondao yep and so yeah we work with them to get nfts and kinda tell their story and you know to get roman to talk about like why they need money and you know what the implications are for their case and how that will affect developers and people in crypto more broadly

4:17Speaker 1

can you talk a little bit like what is that impact do you think that if if they like what's the what is what is that what is at risk here i guess is the question

4:27Speaker 4

yeah yeah it's a good question yeah so basically the issue is that they were writing a privacy protocol for a grant from molochdao and the there ended up being a hack from like a there's like these north korean hackers that had taken money from like a video game and they had tornadoed that eth to try and hide the money away and instead of going after the hackers they end up going after the developers saying that they're you know doing money laundering and they were involved with the criminals that were orchestrating all of this and so the implications are huge because i mean anyone that's building products today with tokens like even like opensea like there's a lot of people that are trading you know tokens on there and like the consequences of you know the developers being attacked instead of the people that use it is just it's very scary like how that can scale out because it definitely feels like an attack on crypto rather than like the actual people that are causing harm

5:33Speaker 1

right absolutely to me that's that's what you know it really strikes me is that it's like why are you not going after the actual criminals and it's funny because especially in the us where we have so many issues around like even things like guns and things like that where it's like you constantly that's what we hear from the gun manufacturers it's not us you know it's like well hello like how can you make that argument and not this see this but it'll be interesting to see how that plays out but it's really important and nouns actually you did a prop with nouns do you you wanna talk a little bit about that and how that went down

6:06Speaker 2

yeah so we're super grateful for six who came through and drafted a proposal which was four nine three and it was a proposal to donate 40 eth from the nouns out of treasury to the roman and alexi campaign and that that passed luckily and we needed to resubmit it because of an error in yeah governance front end which happens to the best of us but yes it ended up being 5 0 2 i think was was the one that actually that went through went through so yeah we're really really appreciative of the nouns community coming through i think it's been very all i'll say is that it's been very interesting to see who has actually materially supported the campaign versus who you'd think would support the campaign that's interesting i just wanna say that nouns is very based we really appreciate that the nouns community was was willing to actually say that no this is what our values are yeah this is important to us and we

6:59Speaker 1

i don't think they didn't get any against us

7:02Speaker 2

not the second time second time was flawless it was 82 or 83 to zero

7:07Speaker 1

good i

7:07Speaker 2

think we had maybe 10 against the first time

7:09Speaker 3

you wanna say it or should i what what now it's revealed preference

7:13Speaker 4

yeah exactly

7:17Speaker 1

there you go yeah we did have we did have a little i remember that discussion at first because i had a little like i needed clarification i was a little worried i'm like can we clarify that you know we don't have any issues and we found out you know like i'm like this let's we're just a little worried but and then i was like you know what let's just do let's just go it doesn't you know this is too important it's too important to worry about what you know gary may or may not do let's not worry about that right now this is too important so i'm glad that that ended up going through and that we were able to to get that funded for you all and that's you know amazing and it's amazing what you're doing with that and juice going back to juicebox really quick and i'm keeping an eye on our time we do have hopefully another guest we'll see if he we'll see him when he slides when he slides in he's here somewhere i'm pretty

8:05Speaker 2

sure okay

8:06Speaker 1

so our next one is jesse so when we see jesse come in we'll we'll know we're just slide we're just rolling we're like gonna keep we're keeping the camera rolling we're rolling people in and out it's a very different approach i'll just say that so we're we're with juicebox you know you mentioned constitutiondao and i have to just shout out like that was a that was my very first dao right and that's i mean if you know me and if you don't if you go look at my wallet right you'll know how many how many daos i'm in i was in constitution dao oh my god you forgot all right well we didn't end up doing

8:35Speaker 4

anything

8:38Speaker 1

alright well we didn't end up doing anything as a dao but

8:42Speaker 3

but i always say purple was my first

8:44Speaker 1

and now we know because constitution dao was your first yeah i still have my people token i had very little in like you know but i kept them like why would i bother the swap would have been crazy just like the amount of like it didn't make any sense so i was like oh i'm just leaving it in there i'll keep the tokens i'll keep it for the memory you know and i loved i'd really loved that whole experiment and that to me was i remember walking into work i'm actually a professor and going i fell down a i fell down another rabbit hole and i found a con i found the constitution and i was and i remember watching the auction too i was watching the auction streaming it was like so crazy but i loved that it really proved out juice boxes you know a major value proposition of that of being able to spin that up so quickly and be able to fund something so fast so i'm really just you know super impressed with that and i've always loved you know what juice bought juice box does do you guys have a booth or an area or anywhere in here that people can come check out or talk to you or how do they learn more i guess is the question right now

9:47Speaker 2

great question no we do not have a booth juicebox is a little too punk rock for the booth

9:51Speaker 1

but but you know that makes sense i was like you know i don't i don't think they would but they have a hackerhouse instead exactly that makes a lot more sense

9:59Speaker 2

yeah if anyone wants to to come in come by just you know send us a message i myself riley django anyone in the crew we're very happy to have folks over here

10:08Speaker 1

do you guys do a lot of hacker houses at different conferences too

10:13Speaker 3

oh i

10:13Speaker 2

would say that's usually the move like we did one at like in bogota and we did an event at new york city a couple years back where we were giving out ice cream oh fun so we did like a bany

10:26Speaker 1

next time

10:26Speaker 2

you do that let

10:27Speaker 1

us know yeah yeah bany ice cream

10:29Speaker 2

at a logan stearns and we we did our own flavors and they were actually it was i would say arguably the first dao voted ice cream flavors like ever i it actually went through an official governance process to

10:39Speaker 1

vote on what the flavors were made yeah

10:41Speaker 2

so i'm pretty sure we hold the like world record for the first dao ice cream

10:45Speaker 1

first dao ice cream that's and and so what were the flavors oh my god i i would have banana i'm sure

10:51Speaker 2

no they were crazy we had one that was pop rocks

10:54Speaker 1

yeah it

10:55Speaker 2

was very interesting it had a lot of textural

10:57Speaker 1

the thing that killed mikey didn't have to kill mikey it didn't kill mikey just kidding

11:02Speaker 2

there were there were some wild ones i i don't remember off the top of my head it was it was 2022 in june so

11:08Speaker 1

oh wow forgive me yeah it's been a while yeah so alright i know i'm i'm asking you hard questions i apologize sure so what there was something else i was gonna ask you and i it just completely left my head but is there anything oh benny i wanted to ask about that real quick again so is are you guys doing a drop of that particular oh yeah when is that happening

11:30Speaker 2

i think that's still a little bit up in the air but i would say within the next month or two i would keep your eyes peeled i have to always throw

11:38Speaker 1

we love puns

11:39Speaker 2

bad for joke

11:40Speaker 1

love puns

11:41Speaker 2

but yeah it's gonna be a very unique minting experience i mentioned a little bit like there's gonna be outfits and you're gonna be able to make your own banny and it's gonna be an interesting experiment it's also gonna tie into rev nets which are is kind of like a new protocol built on top of juicebox that is under development so it's gonna have a token component as well so it's gonna be both like a fungible and a non fungible so yeah stay tuned it's a little bit complex but you'll learn more about it over the next month and yeah month

12:10Speaker 1

and change yeah amazing yep that is our time but i don't see jesse yet so anything else adrian that you wanted to ask or anyone anything that you guys wanna know anything else we didn't cover that you wanted to cover yeah is there anything else that i'm gonna chat about i have a

12:33Speaker 1

that's what you're supposed to ask about yes of professor also

12:38Speaker 2

the i i was photography i was until until recently yeah i did my my mfa at concordia and i taught photography in the undergrad program for for a few years over there so yeah concordia montreal

12:51Speaker 1

so that was yeah we were told by k mac that it was professor meeting professor and we had to recognize yeah so i was like i forgot about that she was put on the reminder for that i was like you gotta remember because i'm gonna

13:03Speaker 3

forget so yeah

13:04Speaker 2

so yeah basically teaching photography students how to i i mostly did digital techniques so photoshop and how to process images and how to print them and scan them and all that type of stuff so that's what i used to teach but i don't actively teach anymore but i hung it up i'm retired for the moment

13:21Speaker 1

retired yeah i understand that i'm about to do the same in a minute but we'll we'll talk about that

13:28Speaker 3

later so we've got jesse

13:29Speaker 1

and jesse's here and jesse's about to roll in yeah but hot off

13:32Speaker 3

the press brian from unlone late doesn't have a ticket to eat denver

13:36Speaker 1

he doesn't have a ticket to eat denver he can't get in

13:38Speaker 3

so he wants to know

13:40Speaker 1

my god that's hilarious on brand that's perfect

13:43Speaker 2

it is on brand for brian

13:44Speaker 1

that is perfect

13:45Speaker 3
