ethcc notes - nice meeting internet friends - panels boring, a few workshops and individual talks dece - non-fc people are genuinely intrigued by fc, but mostly in a detached curious way, not a “I need to get on that” kinda way - not unique to ethcc, but everyone loves talking about how many meetings they have - brussels walkability pleasant and saved me usual conf uber bill - saw a mugging, heard about several others - infra energy stale, defi and nft energy on life support, green shoots consumer energy but still too small to register - hardly an original point, but the sheer number of chains is dizzying - personally I find myself enjoying the events/talks where crypto tries to cross the chasm into the culture more than the hard tech events/talks

All things to solve, but none are the most important problem to solve right now? The fundamental issue on Farcaster is supply of interesting and entertaining content -> drives user growth / retention -> drives developer interest

1. hub<>validators is apples and oranges. 2. Farcaster hubs == full nodes in a block chain. 3. validating and the reward paid to validators is to agree on a unified state == blocks. 4. Farcaster has no needs for blocks/unified state because the ordering of transactions don't threat the integrity of the system.

1. Paying for storage is too much friction to onboard new users but not enough to slow down spam > We experimented with free sign ups in a number of countries and rentention was significantly lower than users who paid the $5 to sign up. 2. Hubs aren't going to scale 2 - 3 orders of magnitude without a significant change in architecture. > We've said from the beginning we think Hubs scale without sharding to ~10M daily active users, give or take. Scaling is hard, but the existential problem is getting the actual retained users. :) 3. The incentives to run a HUB are misaligned and causing congestion instead of capacity > There are no incentives? Adding incentives would increase the number of Hubs. The team is exploring how to reduce congestion. Possibly increasing economic cost of running a Hub (since access to the network is valuable). Nothing definitive yet.
