so you don't have that side that side real estate okay so they did only roll it out to testers okay never mind it looks cool i didn't realize it was special i did say i would test but i didn't wasn't sure if it went out wider because i was seeing a lot of screenshots of it okay this from dwr dottieth fallacies in building decentralized social protocols platforms in crypto okay so there was a lot of chatter i should preface this a little bit there was a lot of different discussions happening around censorship and a whole bunch of other things so let's just dive into this one and then we'll jump to the next convo fallacies in building decentralized social protocols platforms and crypto this is from dwr one it has to be financialized two everything should be on chain three the protocol should avoid having an official client four verifying a user as human makes them interesting and valuable dan you're gonna get it for that one five it must work with all existing standards and other protocols six funding developers proactively and directly is the key to growth seven most users care about how decentralized it is whether it's open source and generally esoteric hypotheticals about the future again these are fallacies so in other words he does not think these things are true what most users care about is is is it interesting to use right now what most developers care about one are there valuable users and two can i build something that gets access to said users i e decent enough apis so

but what okay wait a minute there's a little bit more hold on there's more nuanced all the above but the seven points above have all been criticism of farcaster at one point or another yesterday that's not to say yesterday is my commentary that's not to say you can't iterate and work towards some of the above but focus on building for users and most importantly getting them to stick around and then developers is rare okay

we and we've had these discussions before about the spam and human spam versus bot spam versus airdrop farmer spam and there there are different aspects to these things but sometimes you have folks who can shift their behavior and become very valuable to the protocol because they're just coming in with a different approach or they're you know i could say that what's not interesting to me is people who come in and act like it's twitter like i don't want that vibe and and you know what i mean by that

you so so there's you know like that but that doesn't mean it's not interesting to somebody else like somebody else might really appreciate that vibe so it's very that's the part that i think is a little nuanced here but i and i agree i think that even in a lot of areas of crypto we talk about decentralization and it's an important value but when you when the trade off is speed or access or whatever sometimes people like don't think that's as important as they thought it was originally so

yeah i could definitely see the use case for it i was just trying to understand from the tech side like what is it doing and like does it lock me out for a certain amount of time there's just no info there i just need a little like hover over it tell me things and then i'm you know but i do think it's obviously a useful a useful thing so i just wanted to to call that out because i saw that

i was like oh they rolled it out to everybody i'm not touching screenshots and i'm like oh they did no they didn't well all you had to do is literally say me i think that was like i'll try it yeah there you go okay and one more big discussion point yesterday on the timeline how to think about censorship on a decentralized social network this is also from dan the protocol should aim to be like bitcoin and ethereum self hosted clients are free to have zero censorship in other words if you're hosting your own client you're making your own rules hosted clients will have some level of censorship likely too aggressive of a word in most cases probably moderation is probably the better term moderating it moderating content can use algorithm and or moderation probably less than the average web2 purely centralized platform mac censorship is going to be on someone else's website e g a blog comment where they are free to delete it completely so there was a lot of discussion about nerfing accounts at the protocol level and this was related to nerfing at the warp cast level so this is from horse facts and this is related warp cast nerfs accounts that impersonate public figures and brands post malicious links and illegal content or otherwise violate warp cast terms of service we only nerf accounts that are actively harmful this account was nerfed for impersonation it stole the mathcast brand lodged a fake token and tried to pump it sounds like a good good one to good one to nerve to me yeah that's not we don't want that and then i

all you had to do was one of those if you only had to do one of those we would have done that nerves are never and this is also from horse facts nerves are never related to account quality they are a safety tool used to limit actively harmful accounts you can read more about nurbs here there is information on the warped cast notion so that led to discussions about doing that at the protocol level and that's what is not currently being done is it's only being done at the client level so letting the clients make those choices and decisions and there's discussion over whether or not that is the right approach so thoughts

rules around what is allowed and not allowed on various platforms and what your level of responsibility is in terms of moderation so there could be some things that do need to be nerfed at the protocol level if they reach a certain type of certain type of content for example child pornography like that's an easy one that probably needs to be nerfed at the protocol level in my mind because there may be some legal consequences that could stem back to merkle so that's the only thing

yeah yeah it's kind of tricky so there could be some things and this again it's gonna be those kind of extremes that may have to be dealt with at a protocol level but i'm i know again i'm sure that they have attorneys that they who are more versed in this particular area of law that can speak to that issue better but just something that that popped in my mind that there might be certain types of content but also but i think you know i was listening to hester peirce talk about this on unchained and her approach in general to regulation and and i think that i i liked her and i think this kind of applies and is related in that your last choice should be regulation and law like ideally you wanna set norms and culture and all of that so that you don't have to go there or set guidelines or you know find other ways to get there and if and if you think about free speech like that's the ideal right that you get it to a point where it's like you know these are the norms here's what's acceptable don't do this where it doesn't have to come from top down it's more of a totally bottom up yeah is ideal but that doesn't always work there's just you know you're always going to have those occasional bad actors that are just you know on the dangerous side so what are you going to do yeah but it's those kinds of scenarios anyway that's just sort of my my two cents on that

moving on this is from maneri two thousand people tuned in to a live session to learn how to make mini apps for coinbase wallet probably nothing so this was a build on base workshop that they held with zoe inari dealstack for base and amazing that you had that many folks pop in very exciting a little bit more here from monary building in mini app here are some best practices to make sure it works well in coinbase wallet authenticate only when needed use wallet auth for secure sessions for sending funds default to the wallet context address or let the users choose where to receive always use official sdk actions instead of hard coded deep links fill out metadata hero image subtitle etcetera for better discovery so take a look at this this post from inari for more details if you are building coinbase wallet mini apps also when i was doing i created something in o'hara yesterday which i forgot i think i forgot to share that and i just did a little slide puzzle just to try something and there was an option to use the the on chain kit within there so there's a lot of features within the ohera ai that we talked about yesterday like in the settings and configurations so if you're if you're not a dev if you're like you've no idea but you're like i have this idea for mini app go play around with ohera at i it's worth it because it's you know you can at least you might get something it might get it to to do something whereas it's
