ICYMI @dwr.eth dropped tons of alpha on the Official Channels Day livestream It’s clear he recognizes channels are a valuable community building tool on Farcaster. However, he believes discovery and retention aren’t working well with the current model. He enthusiastically shared his thoughts on how LLMs could help surface conversations via topics which could then be used to drive engagement to likeminded people in subgroups and communities. He acknowledged the challenge is unlearning old models and behaviors, helping people on Farcaster feel as part of the process, and moving forward together. Do you think AI can help us innovate new models for engagement or are we better off with human curated experiences?

the best thing anyone can do for channels is get 10x more people to use them. if there's a channel you love, get ten more of your friends who are not on Farcaster to join and post there. (yes, this is about /sardines)

Where is Farcaster still centralized? June 2025 edition Important to call out: our top priority remains user growth. Prematurely solving any of these potential issues below doesn’t help user growth in the near-term. So not a top a priority. May change in the future. 1. Most users use the Farcaster app. A nerf on Farcaster app is de facto censorship from the protocol today. This will change as Coinbase Wallet, Zapper, Uno and other clients come to market. 2. Snapchain write nodes are run by the Farcaster team and Neynar. In theory we can collude to censor additional writes to the protocol. Low likelihood, but possible. Way to solve this is increase number of write nodes. But again, not an issue today. 3. Farcaster “channels” — metadata and creation are centralized. Content has always been decentralized via FIP-2. Creation is not available via API but metadata is. Making some progress on a plan to move channels into FIP-2 without having reliance on the Farcaster app. 1/2

A quick overview of how @akshaan built Trending Topics on Farcaster. 1. Casts are selected and preprocessed daily. 2. Model categorizes thousands of casts with a prompt. 3. Topics are post-processed, merged and winners are picked It costs about $1/day and runs in < 1 hour.

A couple updates to Farcaster token drops 1) any future announcements will be done on the @farcaster account so make sure to follow it! 2) likely won't call it airdrops in long run so the name closer reflects the actual setup but we haven't decided yet. I'm personally using the term "token drops" in the meantime

Farcaster Pro update A) The limited edition NFT will be airdropped early next week to the first 10,000 pro subscribers. It will appear in your in-app Farcaster wallet. You will be able to send it to another wallet. B) We have 3 Pro subscriber benefits that will likely ship the week of June 16th: 1. 10K character casts 2. 4 embeds — originally it was going to be 4 images but we've expanded it to 4 embeds including images, videos, URLs, CAs and mini apps. 3. A new, previously announced feature: profile banner images C) We'll have FIPs up later today for the proposed protocol implementations. D) We're finalizing the Pro subscription contract on Base. It will accept USDC and allow for monthly or yearly subscriptions permissionlessly at the protocol, i.e. any app can allow Pro subscriptions. There will be some clean up work to do in the Farcaster app to reflect monthly subscriptions. We don't have immediately plans to offer UX for monthly in-app but people will be able to build mini apps that do this.

In most cases on the internet, audience and community are downstream of the platform they are formed on. There are exceptions. 2. Migration is an individual act. Individuals try new things and successfully migrate. Very few communities successfully migrate. Usually, they fracture or fade. 3. Path dependency is real! Just because another network used a tactic at a point in time doesn't mean it's universal. In fact, most of the time it's not replicable since it was successful in capturing a given cohort that there's no one left to target like that. 4. Most consumers are creatures of habit. They get used to a set of tools, networks, experiences and they stick to them, even if stuff gets way worse. 5. Finally, and most importantly, do not underestimate the power of network effects. Companies that have them are valuable for that reason.
