just in in general there's a move to rename and and also no one was reusing cast actions so it would like take up too much real estate on it so i think the idea is cast actions are being renamed to extensions which

makes more sense to me logically like it's a you're extending functionality and then instead of adding it having it as a separate button it's like it's gonna be embedded into that share so it's like that share is like not just share but do other things with this cast

i know i'm i'm gonna just because it was really good yeah we just couldn't do it again yesterday i could feel it like we just we didn't have it in us so we're doing it it today but we had just finished talking about channels day so we're gonna just leave that there we there wasn't too much left after that and then we started to dive into this so this post from dan where is farcaster still centralized june 2025 edition important to call out our top priority remains user growth prematurely solving any of these potential issues below doesn't help user growth in the near term so not a top priority may change in the future one most users use the farcaster app a nerf on farcaster app is de facto censorship from the protocol today this will change as coinbase wallet zapper uno and other clients come to market so just to kind of explain that again when you again first time for you all when you know referring to when it was the warpcast app if you got nerfed or essentially banned from the app you're not banned from the protocol so you're still able to access other apps although it may not be like your first choice but so that's still the case but what he's saying here is because most users use the farcaster app aka the warpcast app as their primary that if you are nerfed from there it it's essentially you're nerfed from the protocol but that's going to change probably very quickly once coinbase wallet is on on board and zappar ununo so you're going to have lots of options right now there's just fewer options because the other ones have sort of disappeared at this time all right so there's that then two snapchain write nodes are run by the farcaster team and nanar in theory we can collude to censor additional rights to the protocol low likelihood but possible way to solve this is the increased number of write nodes but again not an issue today so again this is kind of a little bit of trust in the team to act judiciously and then three farcaster channels metadata and creation are centralized content has always been decentralized via f i p two creation is not available via api but metadata is so making some progress on a plan to move channels to f i p two without having reliance on the farcaster app in other words right now channels are just accessible on the farcaster app in terms of writing to a channel but you can see for example on the coinbase wallet app you can see when a cast is tagged with a particular channel you can see which channel it's in you just can't and you can go you can't go to the channel itself is essentially what's missing and you can't write to that channel four directcasts are run on a centralized server we have apis available for everything at this point documentation needs to be improved eventually move servers to something that feels more like f name server versus our app back end eventually explore decentralization and e2ee we're competing against telegram not single signal and as i said yesterday e2ee is what adrienne
tell them end to end end to end encryption she told me yesterday

end to end encryption and on that note coinbase wallet is using xmtp for their chats so they do have that end to end encryption so it's a so you may not see every client wanting the same chat features like that may end up being its own thing so or nonexistent in some particular clients five github repo merge ability is only for people on the farcaster team hasn't been something to solve for since we're doing most of the protocol upgrades six worth pointing out a big recent improvement to decentralization auth addresses this has reduced a dependency on the farcaster app for sign in with farcaster there's still work to do on making it easier to choose farcaster on coinbase wallet and others for sign in with farcaster flows outside of many apps all right so adrienne tell me all the brilliant things you said yesterday

but the the decentralization aspect of it it would which means right like when you wanna make changes there's not really one single central authority to it right right
and there's a lot of blockchains where that is the case and mhmm like x xrp is a great example even solana is pretty centralized in a lot of ways so yeah i mean that's more the standard that's more the norm than it is you know we think that that all blockchains are decentralized but they're really not even base has talked jesse's talked about the decentralizing of base as an l two like it is on its way but it's not fully decentralized either right for many reasons
and they behave exactly the same and you don't even need to know something's decentralized until you decide you wanna make a change to it

like or until someone decides to censor you or kick you off so for social like the the value of decentralization just comes from the ability
to have a more i would say just censorship resistant communication platform social network yeah
i think that's and i think you know we take for granted our freedom of speech in the us and i really think you know maybe we should rethink that a little bit taking that for granted i mean but a lot of areas in the world this is an everyday occurrence censorship is just part of life and so i think that that's another piece of this that maybe we don't fully appreciate but i'm glad that he talked about it like hey here's here's sort of the the fault the fault lines if you will of like you know neymar and us we could collude you know we could it kind of lays out here's all the here's all the threat points and just you're aware and here's what we're moving towards but it's gonna be a little bit so yeah i appreciate the discussion and by the way

you know points and questions and dan went back and forth with a number of people so i'd recommend if this is an interest to you go take a peek at this thread because there's a lot of good stuff in here so samuel huber had a lot of good comments as well so alright related but a little different excuse me hold on while i get my noun coffee which i'm going to get to that in a little bit cup i had this yesterday we never got we didn't get a chance to talk about that i got distracted if you so this is also from dan if you offer x y z features you'll be able to convince people frustrated with insert social platform to move to farcaster one in most cases on the internet audience and community are downstream of the platform they are formed on there are exceptions two migration is an individual act individuals try new things and successfully migrate with very few communities successfully migrate usually they fracture or fade three path dependency is real just because another network used the tactic at at a point in time doesn't mean it's universal in fact most of the time it's not replicable since it was successful in capturing a given cohort that there's no one left to target like that four most consumers are creatures of habit they get used to a set of tools networks experiences and they stick to them even if stuff gets way worse five finally most importantly do not underestimate the power of network effects companies that have them are valuable for that reason and some of this related is this part this question every other social media platform has thrived with no user incentive to post besides an audience this is from dan quoting somebody else how many new at scale social media platforms in the us in the last ten years only one tiktok and they spent 1,000,000,000 plus for multiple years on facebook ads to acquire users so instead of transferring that value to meta why not try to transfer it directly to the users building the network so that was in regards to why are we paying people to create content instead of other ways to market farcaster and to me this like is a is a no brainer i'd much rather see funds going to creators on this platform than to ads on facebook or google or wherever so and again i yeah this is great i'm like wait i'm repeating myself no i'm not you didn't hear it the only place where that might make sense is twitter and seeing the farcaster team do it in a more organic way where they've just been more active there sharing a lot more of what's happening on farcaster on twitter because that is a clear target market for farcaster in terms of crypto twitter so go ahead
yeah no i just i i think it's a really good discussion it's interesting like how do you start a social network and you're starting a new one and you're kind of comparing tactics and i i get it because i kinda had that feeling of like you're paying people to post is that sustainable right especially when it's coming from you know that's kind of come coming from venture venture funds of like but
dan brings up such good points of like you you can't compare the growth of forecaster to the growth of twitter or facebook
