forecaster it doesn't bother me because i do think like there's overlap and you can kind of code your apps to work within a farcaster concept true to to to not our like our mini app when i just recoded it like the first version was like if you don't open it in farcaster it doesn't do anything and right now it's like technically you could open our mini app in a web browser and still navigate through and it's you kinda have to code different you know if it's in a forecaster handle certain things if it's not do it elsewise
and i guess maybe that's a good point if it's changing to that extent where a lot of these mini apps can stand alone elsewhere then i guess it doesn't matter so
alright and yeah and i just think it is cool i guess to your point of like knowing if it's a mini app these are the ones that already have farcaster context you don't necessarily need to create a new login you know who the person is they have wallets you don't necessarily get that guarantee everywhere else true so right if it's standalone it's an app if it's something else it's a mini app but what about does does it have to be downloaded from the app store then like does it have to be standalone what about

yeah yeah that's funny alright moving on but this is interesting and i do really appreciate the pulling out there early looking for feedback before you push it out to the to the main and i agree with you it's way easier to get feedback early than try and retrofit it later okay moving on this actually this from brixbounty is a comment on this let me start here from shira i went went to dune.eth to check out this chart because something in my feed has been filling off has it gotten quieter or more repetitive not sure but i was surprised to see that the data tells a different story dau daily active users for those who don't know is holding steady at 30 to 40 k range so maybe the issue isn't that people are leaving or going quiet or just heads down building maybe the algo just isn't surfacing enough new voices peeps for me if there are 40 k plus daw here then where are all where are they all hanging out how do i find them i want my feed to feel more alive i wanna follow more interesting people and diversify what i'm seeing help any tips rex and then this was from that i thought was an interesting take on this personally feel there's a little less glue that was previously provided by accounts that had both broad reach and would engage across a spectrum of topics keckers and ted being an example and maybe the super well respected eth dev types who've largely been absent for a year plus still have heaps of activity in smaller circles politics etcetera with java boo and purp and i would say also ice toad sports tldr and the broader bracci community tony hawk jake kenny and gm farcaster crew and other base builders who create a pulse despite the crowd being smaller less people scrolling for longer periods shallower depth to engagement less likely to break containment and airdrop farmers have mostly ghosted post merkle based app pivot which i that's fantastic by the way
like completely fine with that part but i kinda i kinda get a little while there i was definitely feeling that i have felt in the past maybe three weeks or so like a ramp up i'm seeing a variety i'm seeing more people engage so the down numbers do feel right to me based on where we've been before it honestly like this is incredibly active place when there were 938 of us that were that daily active users so like i i think it's not necessarily the number but like who's actually providing the conversational liquidity so i do think there's it feels like there's some things missing like also kristen hasn't been as active so keckers kristen like that particular type of content i feel like is a little lacking right now but also i do agree that the algo might be a little off because i do see when i flip over to following i do see things that i'm not seeing in my algo so you know maybe we'll see some tweaking as the new team takes over how are you feeling about your feed right now

creating this sort of different approach to prediction market tell us a little bit about it
yeah so as people are probably aware we've been doing prediction oriented things for quite a while on farcaster we had the ponder app before and that was based off of social predictions and it was more sentiment oriented so people would you know bet on the option that they thought most people would bet on and if they were right then then they won what we found with that was people were limited in the amount of sort of attention and dollars that they would put in because the outcome felt like it could be civil attack so we yeah we started thinking more about okay like what do prediction markets actually have going for them what is fun about them what do we hate about them like what what do we not wanna be anywhere near so things like the ux and the fact that it feels like a spreadsheet and it's like you know pretty intimidating i would say like even when i first went to prediction markets i just kinda was like i don't i feel like i'm gonna lose here but what's really interesting to us is this idea of predicting the future right so everyone is kind of anxious right now about what's coming next is ai gonna take all of our jobs or is it trying to get to invade taiwan are robots gonna take over like everything is terrifying as general rule

there's all these things that are concerning and and people are kinda wondering like what other people think about this stuff right we're all just kind of absorbing a bunch of information from news sites and you kinda wanna know like well what is what does the world think so we thought that's a really cool thing that prediction markets do is they sort of like bring the future forward a little bit so we wanted to replicate that part of prediction markets but we didn't wanna go the full degen route we didn't want it to be super financialized everything that we do is supposed to be more fun like consumer oriented easier to understand and more engaging for real people so we thought about different ways that we could bring prediction markets to life in light of those kind of learnings and so tomorrow is that right it's it's basically ugc video based prediction market we're much more concerned with the conversations and these sort of the idea that we can pull in markets that are a little bit more niche or maybe ones that you know polymarket and steer away from because they're hard to resolve but because we're in this space where it's gems rather than real money we've got a little bit more leeway to sort of like invite those conversations right so that's the space we're trying to live in it's a much more sort of accessible consumer facing app where it's just fun to kinda talk about the future you can bet gems maybe there will be some way to redeem them in the future there's not currently so like no no promises there but yeah that's that's kinda where it originated and we're starting to really like the feel of it it's new right so like it's in a beta we we wouldn't consider this a full fledged product right now but we're starting to really enjoy it
i think it's super fun personally i like prediction markets more for the i wanna prove i can be right than i wanna make lots of money off of it i like being right who doesn't

i you know that to me is where i think this is fun i like there's you know this is kind of already happening but not in a direct way right you have people on tiktok giving their takes on things that are being bet on on calci and polymarket they're just not together right so i think this is perfect like it makes a lot of sense to bring these two things together and it makes it just a little bit more fun i loved logging in and seeing that i have way more people you know betting along with me for the traders and half of them like
yeah yeah we're trying to we're trying to give that sense of like you have a crew behind you a little bit you you can see in the design a little bit right over your shoulder there so you can see like alright who's on your side there we we show a bunch of pfps maybe more than is advisable but i think if like it gives you a good idea of like the volume of activity that's going on there like to support your side and we'll keep playing around with that idea of like versus right we only have yes or no questions or a or b binary yes options right and we like that just because it gives this sort of competitive elements it simplifies things it limits us in a few ways but i think the benefits are are greater
i think for the beta part of it it's easier it's just makes it cleaner while you're iterating and all that kind of thing and so one of the other things and i haven't tested this out but i'm assuming i can go back in and add another take right like basically point counterpoint snl you know jane yeah

that's all that's all new okay so a few things did transfer over and those are just like kind of learnings for how to build an app within the farcaster ecosystem none of the code transferred over we happen we hired this new dev bane who's just like an absolute beast too like i i've never seen anyone ship as fast in my entire life plus all the new tools that have come out to make shipping like that much faster so it turns out you can just build things and if you have good people on your team you can actually build good things really really quickly so we were able to bring this idea to life like relatively rapidly we have been working on it in the background for like a few months now right like especially you know this is it's like a new product space i would say like prediction markets aren't but doing this like with video and like trying to merge those two like social plus adding it together but it's it's more complicated than i guess it looks so we had a lot of learnings about just like building consumer apps a lot of learnings about farcaster one of the things that we are doing by the way is like we have the farcaster mini app we're gonna be building this in expo so we'll have a web app farcaster mini app starting next week we're actually building an ios app and we think we'll be able to have that ready in like a week so the goal is to be able to get this in front of populations in addition to farcaster to sort of like bolster the activity and the part of the reason that we don't have any like crypto baked in yet is because it's much easier to get into the app store and to get sort of normal people using this thing before you then take that like make that transition so yeah like certainly we learned a lot of things from the last build it's also just great like ben and i have been working together for a while now so we know how each other operate and like we can we can get shit done but like yeah frankly the new guy we brought on bain is just an absolute absolute piece yep

is awesome but we do we do pull in markets from so kalshi has an api and polymarket has an api so the nice thing about pulling their markets in is you just automatically get an oracle like out of a bag right so even if you're not using their liquidity and you're not doing on chain transactions which we could turn on at some point too but we don't want to right now
yeah so it's more about like like automating the oracle part of it so you don't have to do it manually exactly
prediction markets have like 19 different annoying pieces that you have to deal with like getting markets that are good that are topical finding liquidity being able to resolve the oracle question like there's just this like stack of things that are all super annoying to do so the more you can just eliminate some of those things and focus on the other ones the better shape at the end
and one of the things that i had asked for that i would love is sort of these micro markets where the oracle like is me or something where you know things like for gm farcaster you know like what hat is what hat am i gonna be wearing today and things like you know things we could put up and then we know it's gonna be something that resolved by us on online and even if it's like a manual process i still think that would be super fun to be able to have these like my very micro very niche things and even to sort of build in like that even from like i'm thinking about this like this could be even like a paid thing so revenue for your side but part of that goes to actually creating some kind of reward or something like that for people who are playing long

so i get reports every day about different prediction markets and the volume on those prediction markets and the different things that people are saying on twitter about prediction markets as a general rule so like that's kinda super convenient have we it plugged into github so i can create prs for silly little things that are happening in the app and then

that can just kind of approve those and it's just like okay that's fantastic i've got it plugged into like chatgpt's imagegen and gemini's imagegen so chat chatgpt i just have it doing like the ui and ux design type stuff for me there in slack i just like being able to have everything live in slack right so it's pretty fantastic for that yeah there there's like a bunch of other small things but the research like the online reports that you can get really are like hyper valuable because it's just distilling all of this mass i think ellen's really good at distilling massive amounts of information into things that are really valuable right so like one of the first ways of looking at it is how do i get a bunch of information that's super valuable to me pulled out in a way that i can just digest in like two or three minutes and so there's there are a bunch of different ways of of doing that i've tried to have it build little things for me like overnight those are mostly stupid and and don't do well but it's good for like small prs or like improving the the app itself but yeah i mean our our thesis right now though is this isn't going anywhere it's like too valuable of technology and so like what's been proven is what like could come right so it's like theoretically we now see what could happen and now it's just a matter of the tech advancing to getting to that point so for for us it's like just be using it right like you have to just constantly be using it as it's progressing and see like what these agents are gonna turn into we treat them as like kind of humans not like spiritually but you know we kinda act like they're humans and my my honest view is like

this a farcaster thing i'm like it is absolutely a farcaster thing and then i had to explain what was going on there if you don't know what the heck we're talking about regarding the kiwis if you look at this thread you will find the story from mac rodowski about the kiwis and you'll often see us ask this question about kiwi skin on or off so there you go two more quick things that were interesting yesterday coinbase announced wallet for ai agents with built in guardrails the company says its sandbox self custodial design keeps private keys isolated as the autonomous bot boom continues so immediately a lot of people over on twitter x were like bankr you mean bankr can't we just use bankr and i did think that deployer had a good response saying every agent is going to have a wallet the vision we started a year ago is coming to fruition the question is what happens next the goal at bankr is to build the stack for agents to run businesses find its own compute grow a community that compounds exciting to see this we're just getting to the good part so there was this feeling that like coinbase took something someone else built and used for their own they really didn't and they did their own thing and it is very different and as long as deployer's okay with it i'm okay with it as well but my first thought was also like come on now at least give some props but there was no props to be given apparently one other thing
it's absolutely how the world works actually come on

there's always gonna be someone else who builds a better mousetrap and it just is the way that works
and there's gonna be someone who's got more distribution than you and yep they're and built you know built in credibility and guess what but what's different is deployer has a following true you know like you could be a solo dev you know but deployer has a following and he's has credibility and people know so
yeah there we go this from base builds they today we're launching leaderboards for base dev they bring automatic automatic's a big word distribution to the top apps on base and simplify app discovery for users the first leaderboard launching today is for mini apps in base app so there's now a new leaderboard
i was like if you could also put a leaderboard just like in the base app that would be also good just a thought but as i thought about it i'm like this is also good it's also helpful if somebody comes across this website it's another place where they can discover some of these apps so that's great within twitter twitter now has a weird way of showing websites it does work though it will bring you to either the base app or to the app store to download so it's it's fine

not good enough gonna tell you right now there was also a couple other things going on from base this was a comment about i think the ecosystem is heading in the wrong direction it was an article and it was basically about base so jesse had commented back thank you for writing this blah blah blah i'm really just getting to the point where about the super bowl ad so somebody asked somebody said you could have given the super bowl ad money for users of your chain man wtf was that even millions for such a bad advert such a sad advertisement first of all the ad was good you know how i know it was good because we're still freaking talking about it and it's four days later so whether or not you hate calling base or did you're still talking about it that is the whole point of advertising so let me do that let me say that but i'm gonna read this from jesse putting aside the ad itself it's worth noting that base is run basically as a startup within coinbase every year we get a revenue plus cost target set in collaboration with the exec team and then we have to work within that to make base the best it can be to be honest this is a massive blessing because it's forced a level of rigor that i don't think we otherwise would have had this rigor has led to us being super rigorous in how and where we spent later on he did say i use rigorous too many times how and where we spend all with the goal of maximizing the growth of the base economy i think from the outside this operating model isn't obvious so people look at things like the the broader coinbase does and get confused but the truth is this level of rigor of not overly spending in one place just because another is working is exactly the kind of rigor that's led coinbase to repeatedly be able to innovate launch and grow whole new businesses i wouldn't have it any other way ps i love the ad and then later on he did say like pps i had nothing to do with the ad and didn't even know what what what it was until i saw it live during the super bowl the coinbase marketing team cooked i did push back on that and say we know what happened it was because of us and then pps i said rigor way too many times in that post but then again you know it's real because ai would have definitely taken out at least five of those rigors another thing i'm just gonna point out but i'm not gonna read jesse did post over on farcaster i think he did it on farcaster might have been on base you still can post there definitely on farcaster
same thing protocol he did three learnings for me in 2025 i'm not gonna read this but i'd suggest reading it i think it's interesting especially if you have criticism about base or you like what they're doing either way i would go give it a read it kinda just dives into it's a nice like self like a little introspective
