here we go so you were saying about my hat
i just noticed what it was it's it's a diy splits hat
diy splits hat because splits doesn't have merch so and we have abram coming on at noon with us so in about about little less than thirty minutes and i made this when they sponsored cast out last time so i pulled it out from the from the archives that's great
my
my diy splits hat which is actually the base hat from garrett but this is the only thing on it it's just all black i'm like it's perfect so this is the one i use when i don't have a hat for somebody i just make my own there we go it's perfect this is gonna be really fun i'm excited that we have abram coming on to chat about everything that splits has been doing and they just like are constantly shipping and we just love them so i'm very excited about that and then we have something really fun we're gonna do as well so i'm excited about that which you kinda see in my background but we'll explain more later i think we should get this party started i think it's time we're a couple minutes behind because i was you'll see i was prepping some things today it'll make sense later so go retweet recast let people know you're watching and we will be back on the other side of this 41

gmfarcaster it is monday october 5 and you are here with nounish prof and adrienne i almost said abram adrienne for yeah for twenty nine minutes of farcaster news to start your day plus we are gonna be chatting with abram from splits and i am super excited very excited to have him joining us finally they're just crushing it so yeah really excited
okay i just saw something very interesting that as i was about to tweet something which i don't have in our news but i'm just gonna mention it because it just popped up because he just posted an hour ago henry from privy
just posted he's gonna be leading stripe crypto today i'm excited to step
in to lead crypto and stablecoins at stripe in addition to my role at privy so yeah like literally just it was there while i was going to just you know shout a little hey we're live so we need to get we need to get henry back on
yeah congrats henry
congrats henry that's amazing and not surprising of course who else would lead that i mean duh like who else would you want doing that so smart move stripe and we gotta get him back on because he was on with us super early on in privy's journey
mhmm
and like has blown up you know everything's just gone wild since then so would love to get you back on henry to chat but that's amazing yeah i just happened to see it as i was tweeting so very cool freaking news
freaking move on to the rest of our
yeah the rest is not breaking we've got a few things to chat about mostly from over on twitter just thought this was interesting this was from decrypt minecraft candy crush among 11 games in the eu virtual currency crackdown the guidelines exclude cryptocurrencies leaving tokens outside a regime written for currencies bought with real money inside games and i just thought that was very interesting so they are cracking down on when you buy in game tokens with real money so fascinating eu's the eu just fascinates me sometimes also from decrypt morning minute crypto gives up on congress and goes after senators plus a major metamask security event has crypto natives on edge and details trickle out so we had a metamask event but they seem to have caught it before it did damage but they found an exploit that was happening it was kind of like a i didn't i i don't think it impacted a lot of people or if anyone really but i think it's something they they caught early and then on the other end of this crypto gives up on congress and goes after senators meaning the the packs that were supporting different senators are you know being very specific about who they're supporting this time around because a lot of the ones that they did support two years ago ended up not panning out well so it's gonna be an interesting election
cycle few other cannot wait for these midterms
i can't
over wait with
i'm so done
i live in a contest there's a there's a contest there's like a or a big congress race near me and i kinda wanna kill myself i can't turn the tv on i can't open my door i can't look at the mail i'm like just make it end
yeah i live in florida we have a governor's race
yeah oh we have
a governor's race that is like insane and a senator's race so two pretty very big high profile like statewide races plus all the other crap
i hate them all yeah they try so hard to lose my vote and they all win they all win
i do they're all able to i do like one of our governor candidates so yeah we'll see what happens but i'm hoping i'm hoping he can pull it off former republican running as a democrat interesting guy so very libertarian kind of leaning and i'm hoping
yeah he i'm very into the former republicans running as democrats or former democrats running as republicans
i don't really care why
but i just i can't handle the part of it
very interesting like yeah they're they're basically libertarians who know that they cannot win if they run as a libertarian so i like them
i don't know how any i know where this is not we're talking about but i just like don't see any democrats winning that aren't super super far left and i find that yeah really scary
we'll see well that's that'll be the that'll be the thing we'll see if he can pull it off and right now he's leading but it's a tough it's a tough race i'll just say that so we'll see if he can pull it off but he would be the one that is not far left leaning if he he's definitely middle of the road
we should start a new state okay let's carry on
a new state you said yeah like a network state anyway moving on mastercard this is interesting this is from mastercard businesses have more ways to move value than ever before the challenge isn't creating more forms of currency it's helping businesses use them mastercard will make open usdc 0 u s d sorry not c 0 s ousd available through bank finance helping customers access new forms of value movement through infrastructure they already use it's another step toward a connect a more connected and interoperable multi money future so essentially their own usd stablecoin that they are going to be using in the in the background of all these transactions so i'm just finding this very interesting watching sort of the adoption of the technology from all these people who fought it for so long is just fascinating to me i'm also prepping for my class which starts tonight so this is kind of the stuff that i end up talking about further down the line this week it's just bitcoin
wouldn't you love to have picked a topic to teach that didn't change every two months so you could just like build a curriculum and then teach it every year
yeah no but that's boring also i'll tell you but at least my first couple weeks are pretty standard and then it mhmm forget it then it goes out the window which by the way someone else is gonna be teaching like another section of the class next semester he sat into my class last semester he's sitting in it again this semester and i that's the first thing i need to tell him is like you can you can listen to everything i say and like you could take every piece of this class and put it into your classroom and you will have to change at least half of it next semester i have a whole legal section that has changed every single semester every single semester it's different so yeah always interesting but i yeah i have no sympathy for my colleagues who yeah they do teach the same thing every semester semester and they haven't changed a thing in ten years or more teach history and never change a thing this from sec chairman paul atkins since the advent of bitcoin in 2008 crypto the asset market has grown from a niche curiosity into a multitrillion dollar asset class to which investors actively seek exposure unfortunately our rules and regulations have not kept pace to that end today's proposal would provide a clear regulatory framework for the custody of crypto assets giving investment advisers and funds a compliant way a compliant pathway where none existed before and replacing the gray of uncertainty created by custody rules crafted for a bygone era this was in response to the sec announcing today the commission proposed new rules and amendments to provide a tailored framework for the custody of crypto assets for registered investment advisers and regulated funds registered investment companies and business development companies so that just went out these are new rules these are proposed new rules which means they're open for comment and then they hopefully will become formal rules usually it takes about sixty days for that process sixty to ninety days depending on what happens during that process but this is the hello we're just gonna work around the fact that you wouldn't pass clarity act so here we go but it's good to see that we're gonna have at least some kind of guidelines then we had this from cftc chairman mike selig hester hearst stood for up for the innovators builders and entrepreneurs of the crypto community during years of debanking regulation by enforcement and prosecution by the prior administration when few others would america would not be the crypto capital of the world today if not for the clear eyed and thoughtful perspective on regulatory oversight that she brought to bear day in and day out for years as an sec gov commissioner and leader of the agency's crypto task force i applaud commissioner first for her more than eight years of public service it has been an honor to serve with her she has been a great influence on me and will no doubt inspire a new generation of lawyers in her next chapter as a professor so she officially retired from the sec on friday and is moving into academia and we thank you for your service because she's been pretty awesome if you have if you never read her dissents during the gensler years they were always just very well written they were backed by facts very fact based and i just always appreciated her approach so thank you commissioner and best of wishes one of these days i'll get her on a podcast one or the other this from base introducing base cobalt our third network upgrade of 2026 2026 validity transactions and b 20 enhancements are now live on mainnet read the full breakdown you can go ahead and read all about what they did in terms of enhancements i will note this there are three b 20 enhancements in cobalt composite policies schedule multiplier updates and seize with memo here's how they simplify and improve b 20 you can see all the details in this thread and this will be in our show notes so big update and it is now live and also from base chin tan has retired he's moving on five years a few bull markets and hundreds of irl activations later my coinbase run is over i came to crypto because of the internet should move value the way it moves information open instant and owned by the people using it i came to coinbase because of the people i'm proud of what we built with coinbase wallet and what it is today crypto apps were painful to use getting them in front of real people was the fastest way to figure out what sucked and fix it it took building base cafes around the world and onboarding thousands of merchants to start making usdc payments work brian armstrong gave us the space to do things differently tremendous agency a long term view and no theater led to an unreasonable amount of shipping with joy forge and the ai work i did across coinbase came from the same place less stuff between an idea and getting it into someone's hands i'm proud of the team and culture we built inside of the coinbase mothership and i'm fortunate to have led the most talented engineers designers and product people i've ever worked with right before the end i got one last thing through changing the name back to coinbase wallet why don't you chin chin yeah chin thank you to brian we know chin thank you to brian and emily mc for the trust and jesse pollock and kobe for pushing what's possible to my ride or die wallet ogs sheldon pay zora the whole team you are truly the best all the ct folks and met along the way you're all way cooler in person and i'm lucky to have met many of you time to build on a new frontier and we had we had a couple interviews with shintan one at farcon new york and one about six months later that you can find in our in our archives under the base playlist and he was always a pleasure to chat with just a great energy so positive and optimistic and just such a great builder so we wish you luck wherever you land so yeah amazing alright moving on to farcaster news this from bradq twenty nine seconds of farcaster what did you miss this weekend nothing really it's really really really quiet that's why the first eight things we just talked about came from twitter it's really quiet right now nothing really but how about some shout outs to keep to those keeping fc alive right now especially since the neynarannouncement..dot the lobby trivia poker fantasy sports perm plants have gathered 50 plus people that's huge right now and kept us going back every day every hour poidh the cef grants really did their job here as kenny boost and some fun and some meaningful stuff happens from this weekend how about a 100 x on a bounty is that good we'll talk about that in a little bit and then a little shout out to us about what we have still going strong and we probably take them for granted keeping things fun and alive every week yes you do you're all taking us for granted you if you are reading this then you are certainly keeping things alive right now your likes views claims recast chats supportive projects are as important now as ever here's to an announcement soon and renewed energy on the feed and we hope to see that announcement soon as well and to that point about kenny's 100 x seeing your bounty do a 100 x isn't quite the same dopamine hit as seeing your coin do a 100 x but it's up there so this is in regards to the one that vitalik put out there and it is popping off so very cool to see
i don't think vitalik created it i think he just funded it or kenny i think
he funded it sorry
i think kenny created it or something because it was something vitalik wanted to see right and then vitalik added added funds but seem i mean details details
yes vitalik and the omniacs not theomanics theo theomaniacs favorite but very cool
my friend too
cool to see this and there you go yeah so it's gone 100 x since it was created and that's amazing so kenny's just been crushing it so still still going strong
yes and kenny can now count vitalik as a user and so
amazing done kenny well done kenny in
other news this from cojo so he said today we're officially launching dreamworks on the bird app thoughts prayers condolences and likes would all be appreciated and he was in my dms i know he in your dms i know he was in everybody's dms just pushing hard to get people to help promote this over on twitter and we did it well this totally blew up 200 and k views our caster showed up hard thank you all and that was over here and this was in regard to introducing dreamwork the last tool you'll ever need to find your dream job with just a resume we match you to millions of jobs tailor each resume and submit them for you all with just a click but it's more nuanced than that and then he goes on to chat about dreamworks so if you are currently job hunting as i might be very soon go take a look dreamworks lets you control everything or nothing use our pro tier tools to perfectly edit every application or just turn on autopilot and we'll do it for you the choice is always yours so very cool i did see i think it was the dude say that he had been applying for a bunch of stuff and he finally got some interviews because of dreamwork
so oh that's so cool
yeah so very cool to see and just really cool to see
yeah and if you remember he he built this it was a spite project if you remember he told this story about his wife and but it i i know he had early good results and it's nice to see yeah it officially launched he was also in my dms he was in compreni's dms too he was
he was in everybody's dms
my entire twitter feed was i was like oh it's all farcaster people blowing it up
yep
also good to know like that is how you get attention to things so like sometimes you'll see something go off and you're like you might feel like why is everyone talking about this one thing and why are they it's because people do the work behind the scenes yeah i think like sometimes that is invisible when you're like when you can't understand why things certain pop so cojo is very good at yeah
and he always has been he's always been really good about reaching out directly in dms and keeping people updated on things that he's working on
right and that doesn't work for every you can't just be like oh i'll dm people and they'll blow it up for me you have to like have the relationships with people like if colin asked me for a favor i'm like yeah i'll retweet that for you of course if you know i don't know
done and done i saw it i did it
if za'll asked me i'll probably leave him on red i'm just kidding it's just because he's in the chat now and i'm and he's my and i see his name he knows i would do ever i would i would do anything
after how many times he has worn our our gmfarcaster shirt and posted it on the timeline you would leave it on red
i'm kidding it just it was a joke he yeah
no we're just kidding
zallie know i'm joking right you know i love you
zall do not do not listen to do not listen to her he's not we would never leave you on red
alright few more things not too much and then we'll have abram joining us
oh we're gonna talk splits
we're gonna talk splits and i'm very excited about that and this from emily junior over on twitter i just thought this was cool it has a live visual feed of grock getting paid this is probably the most comprehensive grock has money site i've seen to date i think we should probably request to have the coinbase listing page updated to direct to the new site and i just thought it was really like that's kinda cool like you're seeing like live how it's splitting into different wallets like you see the clanker the bankr the grok wallet i just thought that was kinda cool nice visual
emily junior's wallet on there
i think it's it's just no but you know i think you can see it on fomo if i remember correctly because he posts that every once in a while
thursday was fun aw so we did friends trivia and it was it was set up for me bradq and j c a k a sparks other people could play but it but they didn't have a chance and first set this up and we also had an a farcaster spaces going at the same time so we were chatting while we were playing except brad was like i need to focus so every time the questions came up he went off the off the chat and jc did too at first i won as if there was any doubt
there were 60 questions 20 in each section with like a five minute break in between and the first 20 we tied there was one question that i got marked wrong that it wasn't wrong i don't know why some glitch and then the second the second two sections i won and the last one i ran 20 for 20 no problem really fun really enjoyed it i liked having the spaces going at the same time because that just made it i don't know just a little more interactive and fun and like her was kinda narrating and talking about the questions there was a couple times where i ended up giving an answer to a future question by talking about it was really funny and i'm like oh shit i should've said that no i just gave the answer that's funny and then this was me when i went to the friends experience in new york city back in 2021 so that's why you see a mask how you doing mask but that was my yeah my little my little experience there there's huggsy there's the there's the turkey it was really fun anyway so yeah they never had a shot very cool i was i was absolutely congrats
congratulations i didn't thank you
very much i mean there was no reason to doubt this from kenny because we talked about him the other day and he said my dream is to appear in gmfarcaster someday for a straight hour of reply bumping talk that's a lot of reply bumping talk i don't know if we can do that but we have had had you on before and i'm sure we'll have you on again and lastly this is the last thing i have and then we'll have abram up here soon and i just thought this was funny concert ticket prices are reason enough to burn it all down pull out the guillotine because what do you mean $300 to see beck i was like yeah there was a big concert power to the people that was streaming this weekend which was really good i did say back that my first concert was $14 it was dawkin and lover boy at great woods and pretty much all the concerts i went to through my twenties i don't think i paid more than $25 for a ticket like right through my twenties and i i would see like i don't know at least 10 to 15 concerts in the summer like we would go almost every weekend to something because it was right around the corner from us as well so yeah crazy and i did see bon jovi when they opened up for 38 special so there you go we
do confirmation there is a gmfarcaster one of one bust for the bust project
oh awesome yeah i thought we did one because we had we had each of our guests that we talked to which i don't even know if we ever put those interviews out there because they were a little wasn't great the audio the quality wasn't great but we had them all sign and create a image on that one of one so it's pretty cool
i can't
wait to to pull this up van halen '84 nice very nice i i didn't i never saw van halen with david lee roth i did see van hagar a couple times and oh $5 5 nice go see fugazi fugazi nice what was your first concert you ever went to
it was salt and pepa
oh really
at the man music center in philadelphia and r kelly and escape opened up and yeah so that was fun
i saw i don't know how
much i paid
salt and pepper was at my we had a spring concert every year at college and they came one year with rob base was their opening act
oh that's better
it was really good it was really good anything's better than r kelly but no offense didn't know i know i know we didn't
know anything
i know i still just don't really like to know we've got like one song that's good salt and pepper was awesome and then another year had taylor dane but the year after i graduated do you know who they had no nirvana in the fall and pearl jam in the spring amazing i missed them by one year that was depressing
2018 was your first concert wow okay i can't even '20 '20 what was my 1986 was my first concert
so i love that yeah more web three artists than that
yep than that nice and pink floyd 1994 at the vet that's nice very cool yeah my first yeah 1986 i believe it was this is the
'80 in philly like veteran stadium
it might be aquius let us know mhmm we are just awaiting abram should be here any moment and we're gonna talk about
can we give a teaser can we can we show our teaser video
oh let me grab it
let me grab it i didn't pull it up hold on
a year it was like over a year ago i casted that i wanted to create a founder newlywed game for farcaster cofounders and i was like do it do it game show style and so many people were enthusiastic about it but we never really got our act together to do it until now
until now but we're gonna do that at
the end right so yeah i was just
if we
were waiting while we were waiting but
yeah he's here so let's we will show that teaser before we do the game but let me bring him up to the stage hold on let me make sure my hat looks good okay abram welcome
hey hey how's it going
we're excited to have you with us and this is my diy splits brush that i had to make myself when splits was one of our cast out sponsors last time we did cast out so i would like to wear our sponsors you know merch but we didn't have one from you so we made one
so gonna say we can get our act together it sounds like i know
i took garrett's base hat and just printed it out and stuck it on there we go yeah had to had to do it so welcome we're so excited to have you here and it's
been a long time coming i feel like
long time coming we have been using splits for how long have we been using splits now adrienne a couple years couple years couple years yeah couple years and then we also used it for the cef hugely helpful for that because a lot lot of amazing features let's just start at the beginning for those who may not be familiar what is splits and how did you guys launch this like where did this idea come from how did you end up launching this business
yeah so splits today is the easiest way to manage on chain assets and so that could be as a group as a team right so like the two of you nounish and adrienne it could be as a team of ours a team of eight to 10 votes and also we're seeing it increasingly as a team of one working with agents and so that's where we're at today so it's it's you can think treasury operations payroll compliance on and off ramping accounting invoicing all of that kind of like operational workflows it's it's it's not really geared towards the traders so if you are right trading for hyperliquid there are a lot better products that are really suited for that use case we're more on the
i guess i'll use the term more sophisticated holder is how i describe it and so typically a hot wallet or a seed phrase that you're managing on a piece of paper is not suitable for high net worth individuals and so every everybody from you know individuals thinking about you know i wrote an article recently my my wife and i are kind of in the early season of of of child raising i would say and so we're thinking about you know long term plan ten twenty years out estate planning things like that and so a lot of folks in that side of the world that side of their life are using it and then all the way up to kind of like the the businesses as well but that's not where splits began so i'm happy to kinda dive into
yeah let's start from like yeah where did they like idea come from and like what where did it start and then where are we now yeah
yeah so splits as a product launch in the beginning of twenty twenty two it was east denver of 2022 will my cofounder and i were there arthur pseudo cofounder mike he and will actually it went to like elementary and middle school together oh what and then not high school but college or maybe not middle school but high school and college anyway they are like close close friends and so mike's been with us more or less since day one prior to that will and i were doing some like consulting together we've been friends we met over a game of settlers of catan
oh love that
you two have played that yeah
oh i yes
big fan will has never lost to me no excuse me i've never lost to will really yeah so there's a there's some tension there but we met over a game of servers with a mutual friend set us up and he was working on a research startup i was prior to splits or prior to working with will i was doing like research investing at a place called sv angel for a long time so ron conway is a very prolific kind of like broad angel investing to silicon valley in many ways he was one of the pioneers of that and so i was working i was doing that will was working on his own startup i was like oh if you ever go and raise financing like you know maybe there's a world that we can work together that didn't end up happening fast forward a few years he was winding matt down i had left sd angel and we started you know working on side projects together and the idea for splits came about from seeing mirror and openzeppelin remember mirror x y z back in the day the publishing platform they had a splitter implementation foundation of splitter implementation openzeppelin had a splitter implementation and we kinda will and i kinda came from the early early startup background or background from like early startups and really when you think about the simplest concept of a split it's it's kind of like very dumb equity it's like the dumbest like half table you can imagine right because they're not there's like not a preference stack they're not governance you know rules are really just like when is liquidity then like royalty nfts or or some sort of economically productive asset coming in splitting it pro rata is is a very like common practice in startup world and so we're kind of like hey this this makes a ton of sense why isn't it being more widely used you know and so we started talking to people in the mirror ecosystem and the foundation ecosystem and understand like hey you know the the promise of the split seems very powerful you know kind of why why why isn't this being more used and if i remember correctly it came down to composability these existing square contracts weren't really composable with the theory ecosystem they're really like welded to i think in foundations instance they're they're very welded to the nft itself and so if you wanna take up this split it's actually like deploying nft they're also really expensive to use so this is back in 2021 2022 remember like gas prices on ethereum you it costs like a $100 to not give me an estimate type of thing and so the the gas optimization on the splitter contracts in existence at the time were very minimal and so okay composability composability gas efficiency and honestly i'm blanking on the
yeah on a post kids my mic memory is just like completely blank
we understand yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah so there's third one so so we built that out and pretty quickly we you know we we actually use building out the v one of splits as like our eth global hackathon project
oh cool
because this was i think like
it was some finance track i think global goes like a two and a half to three hackathon and we're okay that's like that's like long enough to build something meaningful and actually like get it working properly you know we build up the front end we build that i think with like a very sdk
abram this was before this was before cloud code
yeah so you're
yeah this is old school
it's wild so we did a hackathon yeah well we were talking about this a little bit we did a half week a mini hackathon like four days within splits about two or three months ago and it was
i remember
crazy how much more progress could be made in that like three or four day period than in our three week hackathon back in 2021 that's wild sorry i'll wrap it up so so we built up the splitter contract pretty quickly we saw a lot of interest in like the music the nft space remember this is like you know we launched in december 2022 so peak nfts music scene and that gained a lot of traction because like royalties is a very common and challenging aspect of music today and so so a bunch of traction there that's kind just like off to the races where it's like okay you have customers using it they're pulling you in a certain direction just keep on talking to them and keep on understanding what their next problems are that they're running into and so we added support for all erc twenties not just eth like main ethereum the token we added support for like new l twos not just eth so it kinda just like evolved from there we built out a whole dashboard to manage it do like statements for earnings eventually we and we built out a few different payment legos waterfall swapper waterfall is kinda like a a a preference stack you can set you can set the sequence in which people get paid and then they plug in all the splits which is all kind of like from my background that's how we see funds work you have to repay your lps right until and then you get your 20% carry or whatever and then eventually fast forward you know probably six six nine months of like talking to people was like hey the splitters work the waterfall's work the swappers work like not a lot of feedback so it's okay what other problems are you hitting outside of these payment like i was like well once we receive the payments it's a pain in the ass and we were actually we're experiencing this as well we received some optimism in public goods funding and we're like okay now we have to like replicate the exact like notice safe signer setup on all these different l twos we have to keep gas in our ledgers on all these different networks yep our accountants were like okay we have this like web of complicated accounting rules now we're just gonna like n plus one that for every single network we operate on and it's like we're now like paying like 10,000 a year for just accounting software like this is as a small business this is kind of crazy and so anyways that that led us down this path but okay as a team how do you manage assets when people come and join your team when people leave your team that should be seamless like we grew up you know not quite grew up but we've become very accustomed to using notion and github and linear it's like very modern well designed thoughtful tools and then it's like okay let's step back into like you know dial up era like literally like dial up it's like connect wall that's like dial right yeah and we're just like alright let's try to build you know the product that we wish we had when we started splits and then
and you know nothing against gnosis safe but it's really funny because i hadn't i used to use safe all the time for different things from different multisigs that i was on especially when i was very very in all these different daos so i was using it like daily and i hadn't used it in a year and i had to go do something in my safe where i'm like hold a bunch of nfts and i needed to move something and i was like i can't even remember how to do this why is this so complicated like this it's crazy and then after using splits for so long for different things where we need two signers or whatever i'm like oh my god i like it's just amazing the difference in
the
user experience like unbelievable like it and it's just like you can't you forget like when you haven't used it in a while what a difficult experience that is and like just problems you have and gas and then and then you gotta change the gas because it didn't go through and just like all these crazy things and i'm like wow you guys made it so much easier for just that type of thing just like a multisig usage with a team is it's so much easier like it's unbelievably simple
yeah we we focused on that and i i appreciate that i think the i have a lot of respect for gnosis and the products that they built the multisig is i read about this recently but i think like
contrary view at the moment seems to be that more and more of the world's finance will be custody in open source smart contracts because as the cost of intelligence goes up the obscurity the the security through obscurity concept that typically works for closed source is going away right you can just everybody can just throw infinite intelligence to try and hack this thing so it's actually like the things that are most open are going to be most safe and cheapest to secure because now that cost of security is shared among the community instead of us managing with a closed source having to constantly battle this right i think jpmorgan spent something like 3,000,000,000 a year on security focused software specifically right i think they're like they're like ip their it budget is like something like twenty billion years insane but so this this this idea of a multisig is like an incredible incredible gift to the community that nounish has given and so we we have a lot of respect for them we were using nounish we still have a lot of customers using both splits and nounish together and also we're like hey let's make a run at market that we see which is like new businesses coming on june it's it's pretty funny we now you know obviously notice it's a launch launch their kind of like workspace product or announced that i think it might be launching later this week
launching soon yeah yeah i saw that something was launching
yeah it's been fun you know to see like some of their their team like coming in like fraceless account and like poking around like trying out the product and stuff so it's been it's been fun to see and i think like i think competition is healthy for the ecosystem and you're seeing this play out with all these like frontier labs like it's really good for for us retail builders and consumers so
yeah absolutely absolutely so when did you guys start so you you started in 2022 and then when did you build out the teams part of it like the splits teams i'm just gonna call it that but i don't do we have another name for it dashboard splits dashboard i don't
like splits accounts i mean
i i
i think that will and i generally view ourselves and we push ourselves on trying to think longer term and for a long time and we're starting to see this play out we felt as a crypto kind of just like dissolve into the background the same like inter the internet has dissolved into the background of every single software product yeah every single product period not even just software and so i think we've resisted the term wallet for a long time because it feels very temporary it doesn't feel like a long term thing like when i think of like my children when they when they're gonna be using blockchains like it's hard for me to imagine that they will be like thinking about the wallet that they use right they'll probably just be like using youtube and like tokens moving behind the scenes right and so we've resisted the term wallet i think that we are accepting that that is the the game on the field right now and so i would probably start referring to that as just list wallet right you can have multiple different accounts so treasury operating your automation account your card accounts your invoicing account throughout that
resist abram resist yeah
it's not a wallet it's too simple it feels too simple yeah
no well it's i don't know just for me because i may and maybe as like if i'm like like that the the persona of the solo builder with agents and i think you know and i could see using the splits product as a as a wallet with by the way like supercharged features in terms of you know but for us like i see more of a comp of like just banking yeah it's like it it feels to me like a banking app except it feels like
quickbooks for crypto to me
like yeah that gets fully fully transparent like to be able to see i don't know like the the like you get the security of a multisig you know in terms of and like the the team based but being able to kind of like see transactions and what's coming in and what's coming out and creating different like i use different accounts almost like a chart of accounts
yes
so kind kind of like organize the money so yeah i i don't think of it as a wallet it's like that's where my assets are stored and we're a 100% fully on chain so we like i don't have i don't have to worry about like splits and my bank it's just for splits
yeah i i might i might turn this over to you and we don't have to solve this now but this is something that like we as a team are struggling right because we look at people put out all these like market maps of the different products in neo banking in wallets infrastructure and all these things and we don't really fit clinging on one of them you know we we see those we're like oh like should we be there should we be there should we there like should we be on all of the quadrants like that doesn't feel right either and and and it does kind of open up a question to to our mind which is like yeah should we be trying to actually like put a flag in the ground around a new area that doesn't yet exist right like ali from databricks talks a lot about this right i think they came up with like lakehouse and now i think they just rebranded from lakehouse but they tried to create they're they're trying to create a new vertical to kind of better talk about what it is that they are building
that's the data lake and no data warehouse combined they're like we don't have data yeah it's
turns out a lake house is also a thing for for certain people you know so
you don't have one no
not at all beach house
are you more beach house over than lake house
you know my wife and i are more mountain people i would say yeah alright but we're not yeah he's running certain too so we're we're both
neither right now
no neither right now yeah
sorry but professor to answer your question so that product started like the accounts product not the payment license so we kinda thought about the protocol as being one set of it and then accounts being the other the accounts product we i think we like you know started writing code for that in q two of twenty twenty four
okay that's what i was thinking it was around 2024 it seemed like
yeah yeah i should go back and watch him i i was actually keeping you probably jamie hoffman he was around farcaster for a while really really have a lot of respect for him he actually
launched launchcaster
launchcaster yeah yeah yeah so he's become a good friend i just signed up for broadcaster and he had a fun well not so fun but kind of a you know some some cold water if you will which is like it's really hard to find product market fit when your customers don't have product market fit you know and like we we we have seen our growth in the bear market the past year has been slightly up but not like not what we need it to be and actually when you when you look at when you dig deeper and look at our customer base we've had significant churn you know like probably above 50% but it's the new customers are coming in at the rate that that existing customers are going out of business right and so nobody's churned because they've been unhappy or because they've gone to different product
yeah it's not you it's not you
it's me well but it's off the market that we chose so that's this whole other whole other thing
i think will tweeted that i think will tweeted that and i saw that i was like dude stop subcasting us it's not our fault we're doing our best and we're we're tied to farcaster like it's just
we report on this so we're constantly reporting well this one shut down and this one is gone and that's gone it's yeah it's been depressing to watch a world go yeah
it's hard and like you know i i i strongly believe in even just you know thinking about splits and how we've come to where we are today it's all about just like getting into the market as fast as possible and experimenting like listening to market signal and now you have to have like conviction of k what are like certain like long term trends that are here to stay that we can like build around but it's really it's really hard being yeah just being building in an ecosystem that is changing so rapidly not just at the tech level but also like the the the governance level and the government level and what is possible and what is a cloud so
yeah amazing adrienne what are the questions about
go ahead
i don't have questions i was just gonna gas you up a little bit and tell you another thing i love about splits and tell me if this is right or wrong so you talk about splits as having especially in the background like end of like the kind of the protocol and the contracts which are open auditable so there's a lot of trust there
yeah
i and and i think you guys were early in the whole programmable money thing of like what do you do when you when you have kind of the the price so i so i think that's really interesting but i don't think you're the only one to have done that so i think things like safe probably similar too but like really like it was really difficult from a user experience as someone who didn't when when prof and i started ours like banking like i was just like i have my own wallet but i never had to deal with dows or multisigs so we were managing on safe at first and i just found it really just difficult to use and and and then when we migrated to splits like the user experience is so good
so good
like world class yeah because it's like anything in in terms of like the whole jobs to be done of like whatever it is there's just so little extra stuff like very little friction it's very easy for me to see what i need to see get done what i need to do but i think there's always been that
kind of trade off between security and like the trust of like from like what you get with on chain promises and like the usability so like you could kind of pull the lever and you you focus more on kind of the usability side but are you compromising on security
yeah
and my the sense i have working with you guys is there is no compromise because everything is built like there there's this is the kind of of like the don't you know the what is it do no evil can't can't do evil yeah mhmm can't be evil because the funds are we are fully in control of of our funds it's it's transparent it's seeing it but i don't have to compromise on the usability aspect when i when i think about kind of gmfarcaster so i just don't know any other i don't know any other startup working in the on chain space that does it this well and it's not to say they don't exist because i'm not out there trying them all but like from you have done it really really well and i can't like sing your praises enough
well thank you i'll make sure that the the team takes that clip and you know injects it into their veins
flip that
it's hard yeah it's no it's it's hard though because yeah the people who experience and understand the product really love it and we need to find more of them and we need figure out how we talk about this like hey what is this how should we refer to this product form in teams and i stumble like that's a huge problem and if i stumble think about the rest of the team i think about the rest of the ecosystem right so there's a lot of a lot of challenges to to figure out there but adrienne to your to your point that is that is something we've been really really focused on is how do you typically you have yeah security on one hand and usability on the other and to some extent fundamentally those are at odds because the easier something is to do the more likely it is to be done and sometimes you don't want that thing to be done you don't want funds moving out of your treasury without multiple approvals for instance and so we our approach from the early days was hey fundamentally the keys are entirely yours we we cannot access your funds even if we wanted to say even if we were to go rogue and try to change out our api in our front end you would still need to sign right like we can't move your funds without you so that's one of the challenges with with the business model which you can get into but we actually don't think the business of a traditional bank is wrong right essentially saying hey here's a very secure key here's peace of mind and in exchange for peace of mind you will pay us money right that is like a great way to earn revenue now the banks tend to lend out all of your money and not give you any interest now you have new banks like mercury and collins stuff coming up and might not be new banks anymore given everybody can get an occ charter in about a hundred days at this point
right
but that business model might not be be wrong but oftentimes the access and the permissions will be even mercury like we we we have a ton of respect for a mod in the mercury team we think that is like best in class traditional banking product and they are actively reducing the number of customers that they can bank because their underlying providers don't support all these different countries and maintaining them is really difficult and so we don't i wouldn't say i won't pretend to say we have feature parity with mercury we don't they're really really awesome this is what i use for personal banking really awesome easy to use bank they've also been around for what call it ten years probably have hundreds of employees we're a team of eight and we're almost at future parity right and that's because we don't have to deal with a lot of the the challenges that they do around compliance and and who are you actually underwriting and what assets are you underwriting you know so you can bring in an ens thing you can bring in nfts we have a bunch of random stuff including spam in our accounts that we're kind of constantly battling but because we're not taking cash to get funds we don't that's fine it's your property right if if i'm sure mercury will add stablecoin i'm quite surprised they haven't already to be honest and when they do i'm sure we will use it too right we use mercury we use meow we use a bunch of different you know software as as splits and you know we use stable obviously we use splits as well as where where the bulk of our assets are held
i will be very surprised if mercury add support for some of these more esoteric assets anytime soon and one on you know ten twenty year trend oh yeah go ahead
oh no i'm just i go ahead i'm
i'm saying one very quickly one ten twenty year trend that you know because we we do think about okay what's changing rapidly what are you know areas that we can really lean into but also what are things that are going to stay the same for the next ten twenty years right i i think we wrote about this a while ago base just talks about these you know ten year narrative one of them is the tokenization of essentially all finance right and part of this is that like safety around open source but the other part is there's this awesome article i'll i'll send it to you if you haven't seen it but it was like an x article about the containerization of finance and it kind of made the comparison to back in like the fifties and sixties when the shipping container was invented and how how how how that that that increase essentially accelerated globalization because it drove the cost of not only shipping but like like longshoremen used to specialize in like counterbalancing and like managing the weight of the different chips right and by making it portable and consumable by everybody around the world just increase the the speed at which things were moved and we believe that's very much happening with essentially all of that view as well i think it will will like say call it like the internet of that view if you will and as a result i think it's very unlikely that all of those new types of financial tools take like perks for instance are going to fit very neatly into a traditional banking interface and custodian like exchange like you know coinbase mercury etcetera because it's just gonna be like really hard to underwrite and like understand okay who actually is taking this on their balance sheet and so actually we think that you know that can be like a a a like a business model advantage for us
i also think like if you you know as you're mentioning like everything's gonna be tokenized we're just talking today one of the news articles that we you know highlighted earlier today was mastercard and $0.00 usd like their own stablecoin and the things that you know and we see that happening constantly you know we've seen it with visa mastercard you've got stripe stripe crypto oh henry's taken over stripe crypto by the way henry from privy yeah just saw that this morning oh wow okay saw that live while i was on the show so like you've got all these you know sort of institutional folks who are now seeing the advantages of the technology to me in my mind that means that like you are well positioned it's just a matter of being able to express the advantages to those who maybe don't even realize that they need it yet but they will because if everything's gonna start moving in crypto and on crypto rails and via stablecoins etcetera etcetera they're gonna need these tools or they're gonna find these tools more useful than what they're using it's just a matter of time so
yeah i suspect like many important tech innovations they're both like disruptive and sustaining and i would imagine that for a lot of existing fintech with enormous distribution revolut newbank even take mercury in this stripe i think that the adding stablecoin rails will be like a really awesome sustaining innovation and also i think that they'll be quite disruptive in certain areas as well yeah and so yeah figuring out how do we talk about this is it a wallet is it a is it like an account is it a smart account is it you know a bank
yeah what do we call it yeah yeah
what do call it yeah and i think that you know the advantage that we have is i have this like a half baked screenshot it's essentially like you know start to kinda like surfing it out you can't catch a wave if you're like sitting on the beach spectating you have to be in the water
yeah
and then you have to be like well fed you're not hungry you can't be cold you have to like start paddling well before the wave comes and like we've been in the market we've been in the water right for four or five years now and so we can start to see i think our our our understanding of where the waves are forming and when to start paddling i think is is hopefully sharpening and if it's not then all hope is lost but no i think i think that just being being in the in being a live player i think really matters
i agree you've got a few waiting for you yeah for sure
i one thing you're talking about when you're talking about the self custody and what i've split side it occurred to me when you're comparing it to kind of a traditional bank is like there you really can never have a situation of a run on the bank in a situation where right all the where all your end users actually have custody of their funds now i know you also have the ability to do
to stake and get to for yield and and whatnot and those products aside but in terms of like i'm putting my money in a bank like there's that promise of it's always mine so yeah i think something like that we take for granted i mean i take for granted i assume my money's always gonna be there in the bank but history has shown us
yeah we've come up with with solutions like fdic insurance and stuff that you know subsides right they're like health
care to only to a certain amount so for for large businesses that's always been an issue like when we saw silicon valley bank you know and the issues that happened there some people were gonna be you know without some kind of adjustment by the government they were gonna be stuck
have you heard of this
oh go ahead no go ahead
i was have you heard of this concept called like a narrow bank no it's pretty it's it's pretty interesting the the the the ideas as i understand it is like banks take either credit or duration risk so credit being hey the people that we're underwriting aren't going to repay duration being what happens to silicon valley bank being like hey you know people need their deposits back prior to us being able to get them and the idea of a narrow bank is actually you can you can provide the same product that banking does you know yield on your deposits all that stuff without taking credit or duration risk and so far it's it's like kind of exist in theory and and and i would say we're seeing it much more come to life in practice right now
that's interesting yeah we're seeing a lot of new experimentation it's kinda like a matter of seeing how it plays out with the like what you're mentioning neobanks and the o c is it occ or o ooc occ and seeing how those all play out will be very interesting we got a few comments in the chat that i wanted to share this so was from compreni splits is killing it meanwhile saw safe organization hitting getting hit with formal complaints from stakeholders for broken governance so that's interesting and again like safe safe's been around for a long time and i do appreciate their you know early on and and the more difficulty it was in building that so you know i i get where they're but they've but they've had a lot of issues they've had a lot of issues with hacks and all kinds of different things so definite opportunity there and then we had this from mikerichardson.eidh abram thank you so much for taking the time to share your time with us i have learned more in thirty minutes than months so that was very nice to see thanks mike very cool i just wanted to make sure we shared that adrienne what did we forget forget anything
i know we're gonna run out of time and we still have a very fun segment we're premiering with you abram that i can't wait for but
little surprise
i just wanna ask a little bit about splits' writing culture because you guys do you you do do newsletters but you do a lot of blogging and it seems like it's not coming from just one person i see multiple authors in there between you and zach and will and everyone is like really good writers and i love reading all your blogs so i just you wanna say anything just about how how like just your the writing culture at splits
i all credit and i mean that all credit on this goes to will will is for all of his defaults on how much of a architect and systems thinkers he is and all this stuff i'm probably the other to my k just like let it rip let's see what happens you know and we balance each other out really well in that regard and early on will is a fantastic writer like i i wish he was writing a lot more i'd push him on it and he shared a lot of internal docs from hey make this public redact whatever you need but like let more people see how how talented or ready you are you know he he's very much of the mindset that writing is thinking and by the process of actually going through and writing things down and trying to simplify it and trying to make it because i thought who was it i think it's like maybe clay like the crm company published some things publicly recently which was like whenever you write something reading it should take less time than it took you to write it and essentially what i what i understand they're trying to combat is just like ai slot like oh here's the prompts let me like give you some stuff boom here's four pages that's that took me ten minutes to write it's like no one wants to read that because it would take you four pages worth of time to write and so we tend to take the opposite approach because we probably put a lot more effort into our writing than than maybe we should depending on how many eyeballs and you know the roi on it but i i appreciate that comment adrienne we do take that very seriously that is all i would say will's strongly held belief that writing is thinking and if we're going to build something that lasts we need to be documenting how we are thinking about it at the time and so that means writing about it and so we do have a number of different people contributing i think we actually have like a technical deep dive from our end lead mike coming out either this week or next and so we are trying to pull in more people as well not everybody's super comfortable with that and not everybody's comfortable you know putting their name behind it and so i'm always happy to jump in and do an interview you know like interview and kind of write something that we both sign off on
that's a good idea too
yeah but yeah i think just you know it it also kinda boils back into like building in public and we want to send out a bad signal where it's like hey people like us come see what we're building because if you think like we do i like like you two do then i think you'll really like what we're building and so you know how we build why we build why we make the decisions that we do what are the different trade offs that we're making all of that stuff is really important to highlight so but yeah i'll i'll make i'll make sure will gets the credit on that one because that's really been something he's been pushing
i think it it also it get builds trust too it builds trust with those who are finding you maybe for the first time it gives them sort of this archive of like i can get to know who these who these folks are from what they write you know what they what they share and how they build in public so i think that's important adrienne what were you gonna say
oh no i was just gonna tell anyone who's listening if they're not already familiar with splits like i would say and abram can do your takeaways but like if you're doing anything with on chain money like if you're doing anything with crypto check out splits can anyone just sign up for an account and play with it without you don't need permission to onboard or approvals and it's all free so like do go use it and play around with it and then if you're not ready for that just like subscribe to the blog because the the the blogs are great
really good
thank you yeah
yeah the only the only permission i would say part of the product is if you want to move between crypto and fiat so we use stripe or bridge under the hood so at that point you have to kyc or kyc but we have many folks many teams actually maybe you too i'm not entirely sure where they just use the on chain portion of it
yeah we've never connected with anything you don't know us
we haven't k y
yeah adrienne no not that's just a suit of them but yeah app.splits.org is totally free to use you can add teammates you can add agents you can add your partner you know my spouse is not terribly crypto interested i would say though she does put up with me but you know she's a signer on our shared family accounts because she knows
nice
how to use icloud pass keys you'd like it's it's really wanna yeah make it more accessible
i really i 've been thinking about this and i probably should now i had a like a safe account for things i do with my class and i do i should move over to to splits with that and for this time around for this coming up semester and i do wanna kinda ex i wanna show them that product to kinda get them to know and understand like different things that are out there
as they're building annoying we also use splits for this clanker ecosystem fund to manage that treasury you and we you we did the whole kyc so for anyone getting grants
yeah
over i think whatever it yeah we did like the automated kyc made it super super easy
it was unbelievable
and then when we were doing the clanker ecosystem fund we were still working with neynar so they needed transparency so they had access as well to the fund so i'm gonna just shut up because
and i need to yeah speaking of i need to do our i need to do our ten ninety nines but it was really like it was so because we were like right at that moment going oh how are we gonna do this we're gonna have to collect all this information i'm gonna have like a million pdfs like this is gonna be a pain in the butt and like we really were like okay maybe we just don't do maybe we only give underneath the limit like all this stuff and then because you had that built in it was like oh okay that just saved us so much time like term like hours and hours so that was that was huge because every you know and everything was gonna go through there and it did so that was perfect can't say enough alright adrienne are you ready for our our surprise last segment
yeah abram do you know what do you know what we're surprising you with
no okay
do see do you see prof's background
yeah well now i'm making sense of it yeah okay
okay adrienne i think you need to explain what this is and why and like what you've been thinking about for oh so long and then i will show the little did you
bring up the tweet did you bring up the cat did you
do want me to do the teesas video first yeah
oh no i was saying just the cat you didn't pull up the cast when i first con did the concept of it did you i no i didn't pull that one up
you might think you mentioned something to me in passing like
months or year and half ago about a year and a half ago i said i have an idea like something i wanna do for gmfarcaster which is founder newlywed game and because we like to do different fun segments of because there's so many cofounders on farcaster where we know the team
yeah
and i was like what if we did a for for for for for the kind of the for all the farcaster startups and whatnot found a newlywed game you bring the two cofounders on ask them the same questions and see how well they know each other and yes there was a lot of interest in it and i sat on it and did nothing and you're gonna be our first one
nice yep yeah yes for sure
so we here's actually i did have the cast i just found it oh yep so the yeah this was something we've we've been thinking about for a long time so but here is
and by the way and the original concept was a game show all that like bringing multiple people on at once and i had this vision where all the prizes would be like the the farcaster stack of like if you're building on farcaster you're gonna get you know all credits to neynar and privy and you're gonna use splits and using amp's credits and you know and and a qr and you get your qr auction and farcaster's in a very very different place that was a
year ago
and i know listen you guys obviously are not farcaster only so it it counts but
yeah
i pay we pinged will and we asked him a handful of questions
nice okay
and we're gonna see how well you know each other
hold on okay hold on i gotta play this first so here we go this is the little teaser trailer
gmfarcaster presents the founder newlywed game tonight's couple abram and will from splits they build together they ship together but do they really know each other who ships on a friday and who takes the bigger split find out monday october 5 live on gmforecaster
love it alright had it been more online this weekend maybe i would've alright
so we have got this ready to go now and i'm really excited this is gonna be so fun so this is the founder newlywed game we started with we these are the questions that we asked will and we're gonna ask you what you think he said to these questions and then we have his answer so this is how this category is how in sync are you with your cofounder at work and the first question is what is the most under misunderstood thing about splits
what is the product is it a wallet is it infrastructure is it a bank that general direction yeah
will said that we're a wallet company now yep yep
the tilda is a is a telltale sign from will
wallet wallet this exactly from his answers
yeah yeah yeah you can tell
alright next question if you could magically improve one metric at splits overnight which one would it be
okay so this is what will answered
what will answered yes
and was will thinking about
what what you would what you would answer
okay i would say the number of activated referrals
unique transacting monthly workspaces because we get a great word-of-mouth from each additional user so essentially yes your referrals yeah yep he just said it a little differently but yes exactly exactly okay then this is the how well do you know your cofounder so these questions are a little different what part of running splits does abram secretly hate doing what did he say
cold out he's like doing media appearances
what did you say
no that's that's will cold outgounds
woah wait go i don't know that it's a secret but i would say cold outbound possibly being active on non fc socials yeah
nailed it twitter nailed it tough that is so much easier to show up and engage and be authentic and connect with people in farcaster than than twitter and i've i've maybe maybe linkedin would be better at this point but it's it's hard so and it's agree with him but
stay tuned let's see who the next owner is maybe we can get back there okay but yes we understand we feel your pain we are there as well we are there what is the one thing abram does that you absolutely love as his cofounder so this is what will said about you that he that he said that he loves about you that you do what do you think he said
well will loves to say that your greatest strength is also your greatest weakness and i think that probably my like attention to detail and to not let these like small things go he does appreciate and it bothers the hell out of him too
he truly cares about delivering a great user experience and he did say something similar to that there was a question before that where it really got into like the details and all that exactly what you just said exactly what you just said we kinda edit it down because because adrienne gave him like i don't know how many questions were there 36 or something was a lot there's a
lot questions
no you said he could answer nine but you gave him like a lot oh you gave him lot him lot there's 18 yeah yeah so i edited down a few but it was something it was almost exactly what you just said if splits failed tomorrow and you two started another company what would abram want to build
i think i would i think a it would ideally be with will and i think it would be not venture back to begin probably something more of like a
studio interesting
yeah beyond that it's pretty okay
he said something with mushrooms also possibly children's toys and education
you know what that's actually more accurate than my
you know me better than you know yourself so i was like immediately i was like we're gonna need to know about the mushrooms what
yeah okay what
about the mushrooms
yeah all sorts of mushrooms by the way not just like psychedelic mushrooms
like i kinda had a feeling i'm like i felt like this might have been like more along the cooking line or something
oh cooking packaging like all like i think that fungi are wildly understudied
okay
and actually this is a hot not a hot take because it's proven but actually they look like the structure looks a lot like the newest tech like they're they are very decentralized
very decentralized
yeah you can like chop off the the the this like the mushroom that we think of stock or yeah scam cap that's not like the heart of the mushroom it's like way it's like the a web it's like the mycelium underground also like like a like a mushroom like stocking cap is an incredibly optimized form we found fossils that that show that same form that are like 4,000,000,000 years old
oh that's wild
so like incredibly optimized for for planet earth
and so this is why i love farcaster is because people have all these like just you know they're tech tech tech and then they have these like obscure random interest that they know so much about and it's just incredible yeah there you go yeah yay dad fun guy and kids learning is back yeah love that i was like what in the mushrooms okay alright moving on what is something abram is weirdly good at what do you think he said
do you remember what he said adrienne
i feel like oh man there are a lot of well i'm gonna like go like not splits in this you know we've like played pickleball together and like you know might might bingo feel they're definitely pickleball
wilson pickleball did you that's the next question did you play back in venice were you at the farcon venice did you play in the pickleball tournament oh you missed out yeah you missed out fine that was a seriously competitive pickleball tournament with a bracket bracket like it was serious yeah adrienne played i did not fly
i would have enjoyed myself
you would have definitely if abram weren't allowed to work in tech what would he do for a living
i'd build like furniture or something with my hands
interesting he said run his own third space coffee shop by day wine bar by night family friendly always but i like the furniture thing and yeah that's something to do with hand
yeah mushrooms too
build all your own furniture in the third space that people sell
to build out the space yeah you have to build out the space
have you ever been to you i don't know if you're maybe you're not in la i've been me i wanna go to noun and drew drew kaufman and
i haven't i haven't yeah
i really wanna go to noun i still haven't made it there
i'm in la in a few weeks
oh you gotta go to noun my name's underneath the counter
oh
my name's under the counter yeah who is more likely to cry during a movie so these are all just like random questions about your cofounder will and will said me yep who is more likely to survive a week in the wilderness
it's not
you said me so fast by
the way i wouldn't last two seconds that week adrienne but adrienne that question yeah yeah oh she would last forever yeah she yeah she went to mongolia and lived in a yurt type thing it was crazy with yak shit all over the place i would never i would never never in a million years who is more likely to respond to a message at 3am
will
will said me who is more likely to talk their way out of a speeding ticket
oh
would say will
oh will said you yeah will said you i
could see that i mean i could see him thinking me and me thinking him like that kinda makes sense the way our brains work
that's funny what is abram's most embarrassing guilty pleasure this is and this is our last question i've made this the last one i
my way of i don't this isn't a guilty pleasure let me think about it well my way of relaxing is to like and open prs on like low level like polish tickets like oh that border
radius is strong
like that like that is my way of like relaxing
your way of relaxing
my wife wow that's funny no i i just like really really like that stuff so i don't know like to me
was that like an embarrassing guilty pleasure
he here's what he said first he said nice try feds that was he gets a lot of shade for wearing socks and birkenstocks oh yeah rightly so i think he feels neither embarrassed nor guilty about it
i yeah that got like i got flack for that like in my wedding toasts i've been rocking up the socks and birkenstocks has been a a go to for years and years and oh that's funny i've gone yeah yeah eventually yeah anyways but
that's funny but i love the i love the and thank you for playing i love the nice trifeds that was my my favorite answer nice trifeds well thank you for playing and you guys really know each other very very well
we do it's funny actually i'm i have this in about five minutes but every every week we make time for the two of us to essentially just like we we call it emotional check-in
oh nice
and it's just like you know ten minutes how are you doing it's not split or anything it's just like hey how was your weekend how's your relationship with your spouse how are your children doing like how are your parents doing and it's just you know we can take it in either direction but i do think that again that's a a practice that that will institute it that's been fantastic and it's nice to see the return on that here
yeah there
you go got it they haven't kicked you out of silicon valley yet for that for emotional check ins you're not supposed to show emotion
i know i know maybe we were kind of know we like you know defected years ago when we went down this path so
it's funny because we do that same thing usually right before and after the show like but not specifically like we don't plan it it just kinda happened naturally where we just talk about you know like what's going on whatever yeah and i think it is helpful it is helpful because you know where where your cofounder's at this has been so awesome by the way thank you so much for for hanging with us i know you have to run
i'm glad we finally did it i know we've been you know hanging out in denver a few years ago we were talking about it yeah anyways thank you for for persevering and making it happen
yeah this has been great and i'm glad i hope everyone got a lot out of it this will be we'll have all links in the show notes for you know the blog and the site and everything so people can go check that out but also you know this will be in all of our podcast spaces for those who may have missed the live and yeah it was a great episode it was so much fun oh one last question yes to crypto who uses like wallets like is a solo not necessarily building anything how would someone like me use splits is that do you think of this more as like businesses or would a individual investor get a benefit from using splits in some way
definitely i mean the the most recent feature we launched is like a full blown accounting yeah like cost base at profit loss tax loss everything vertically integrated into the product so instead of having to go shell out a few $100 you know come march april to do your taxes and you can even even import like historical transactions from external accounts so we want like a full you know and and then if you are a business and you need have that sync with quickbooks and xero obviously we can we can do that too but i think that's coming like this week but so so yes it is a
that's a great point i didn't think about the cost the cost basis thing you guys just implemented that's an excellent point so i think yes to crypto i'll grab that cast where you guys shared that and i know there was a i think there was a blog post as well i'll make sure that's in the show notes and i think you'll if you take a look at that that will make more sense as to how this might be useful
yeah the other thing is like there is like there's a browser extension too so you can use it just like you would metamask or ravi on other other wallets they're all multisig accounts so if it's just you just make it a one of one if you want more security make it a two of three what have you you can have multiple different keys it can be split between hardware wallets and pass keys you can get claw dropbox your own sign yeah we can go down that that rabbit hole and yeah we actually figure out how to communicate this more succinctly so thank you for that question
yeah so we'll make sure there's some information in the show notes and get you some links and yeah you can check it out and compare and see how it works for you this has been amazing thank you so much abram we appreciate you so much for popping by we appreciate everything you guys are building and the way you build in public adrienne anything else before we let him head off to his feelings check-in
no thanks for letting us keep you long yeah
thank you so much for hanging see you come back anytime both
see you
bye this has been awesome that was awesome i love i love the i love them both i love will love abram i love what they've been building
and didn't get a chance to ask that question yesterday crypto but i would say if you just even write something on farcaster tag abram he can give you a full answer to that question but there's it's a it's a great and also it would be good for you as a like you could also add somebody like your wife who's a normie very easily because it uses pass keys rather than wallets so if you wanted to have that as like a beneficiary if you will that's another really cool option
alright that's it so one thing i wanted to mention before we go is that we are not gonna be on thursday this week we're gonna be on friday so we're gonna be on friday 08:30am eastern also
if
you guys are around on thursday i guess it's gonna be evening our time unless you're in singapore network state conference is gonna be on we were talking about doing a watch party but i don't think we're gonna because it's a little late i think it's gonna start at like 9pm our time but we'll be watching and and checking that out there's gonna be a lot of cool speakers but we'll be talking a little bit about that on friday and as well as whatever news and so we'll see you on friday 08:30am anything i missed adrienne
i think we covered it please go make some news on farcaster so we have something to talk about on friday thank you very much and all the chatters thanks for hanging out today it's always nice to see you chatting
