Excited to share more about Hypertoadz in the coming days as mutations start and things get rolling. Even in the max mutation scenario, it will start off quite slow. 1 tomorrow, 3 the next day, 7 the day after that, (2n+1) every subsequent day If all goes well and people care about it, it will be competitive to get these early Hypertoadz since they're free and limited spots, but over time they should become pretty accessible. I’m sorry guys, I have bad-ish news too. Shipping to the U.S. is temporarily paused because of the tariffs. I’m hoping that Canada and the U.S. come to a deal soon, but unfortunately this just makes me a sitting duck. The tariff - if I were shipping to the U.S. - would be 50%. So if you bought a candle for $49, you’d be paying nearly $75, with $25 of that going to the government for the tariff. My margins aren’t good enough to absorb a 50% tariff - at most my margin is 15-20%, and I export 99% of my sales to the U.S. Essentially my business is at a halt due to factors out of my control. I’ve always believed in having my candles produced by me, with great attention to detail, using North American suppliers. While visiting a candle factory in China and seeing the quality of work they do, I realized I was able to produce the quality of candles equivalent to nearly the work of 80 people. With this new tariff, it’s actually cheaper to produce and import candles from China (around 30%).

Things in the broader world that have changed since I first got active on farcaster 4 years ago - Elon took over Twitter and drastically reduced censorship and innovated hard on product - Elon haters took to other platforms, like Bluesky or LinkedIn as a viable alternatives - so no one really talks about the importance of censorship resistance anymore bc both sides are appeased at the moment - crypto is not cool anymore, people don’t talk about or care about decentralization. The crypto that’s winning is more centralized and corporate - there is so much AI slop on the internet and people are getting content-exhausted, preferring IRL moments over online (or maybe this one is just me) It’s definitely a tough time if you want to build a censorship resistant social network where users own their identity - exponentially fewer people care about that today compared to 4 years ago Makes me sad because I still care. The world would be better if people had more power over the giant corporate networks

@rish said it well - farcaster needs a different setup than we can provide. what we could provide: a protocol that's more decentralized, more distributed, and significantly less expensive to run and grow.
Update on Farcaster, Clanker and Neynar We’ve started a process to look for a new home / team to run the products going forward. Sharing here before anything is finalized so it’s less of a surprise this time. Earlier this year, this seemed to be a good fit for our team: it was a developer-first network, and we'd been serving developers from the start. There’s been a lot of change since then and, in the end, we've failed in achieving our goals. We’re not the right fit for what’s needed next. Farcaster is an interesting mix of tight community + not-cheap-to-run flagship apps + slow market. It needs a different setup than what we can provide. Talking to a few teams we think could be a good fit for running decentralized social apps and related developer products. If you’ve thoughts / are interested, reach out. Our focus is on leaving the protocol in good hands, and in better shape compared to when we took it on. To that end, we have: > increased validator operators across more geographies, with on-chain voting to add new validators coming next (will allow any existing operator to vote in new ones instead of just core team) > given validator operators access to protocol github repos (earlier locked to core team) > reduced infra running costs by 80% to increase sustainability (team put a lot of work into this) No product impact; apps and developer products will work as normal. Our company will return its balance sheet (most of it remains) and team members will move on to something new. This is not a decision we made lightly. Some of you have pointed out that we were quieter over the last month, it’s been a result of internal introspection. I’m optimistic that with this next iteration, Farcaster will find its long term fit. It’s loved enough that it’s unlikely to simply perish - thanks to all of you, and lindy-ness.

we've wound down neynar studio. you may have seen the banner in the app. the important stuff: -your published apps stay live -you can export your code from the dashboard anytime. the banner that said downloads end aug 8 was wrong (updating it now) -if your apps aren't showing up or you're stuck exporting, reply here and we'll help why: the team's main focus is on farcaster and clanker, not neynar products, and low usage of the studio made it a clear thing to drop to be able to focus more elsewhere. usage was low enough that we underestimated how many of you would care, and we should have casted before the banner went up. also there are great other tools like @viniapp that do the same thing!
